Connect and share a high-speed USB 2.0 peripheral over a Gigabit network. This Gigabit USB-over-IP device server offers a simple and convenient way to extend and share a USB device over long distances, and it works with multiple users connected to your network. Plus, the device server supports Gigabit (1000Mbps) speeds, so your connected devices function faster than traditional 10/100Mbps device servers.

The versatile device server connects directly to your PC, or it works with your existing network devices (for example, hubs, routers, switches) so it can easily integrate into your current network infrastructure. It's ideal for connecting and sharing USB devices (for example, card readers, digital cameras, webcams, printers, and scanners) with multiple networked users. Plus, you can use multiple device servers on the same network, letting you connect and share even more USB peripherals.

The USB-over-IP device server includes Windows based software that provides a simple interface to connect, monitor, and control the connected device over your local area network (LAN). Plus, the software communicates directly with the device server, so it can be used in Virtual Machine (VM) environments if you have multiple VMs sharing the same set of hardware.

StarTech.com 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit 1 Port USB over IP Device Server - de is rated1.63 out of5 by8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Losing IP ConstantlyAs others are saying this device loses it's connection after about 30 minutes to an hour. The only recourse is to power cycle it. I have tested it with static addresses and also on an isolated network. Same result.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same Issues As Other Customers ExperiencingThe device fails to maintain a stable connection. Stays online for 20-40 minutes and then disappears from the network. Web interface is inaccessible at that point and only power-cycling is able to revive the device. Our network contains roughly 50 static IP devices all on a single subnet, so the probability of DHCP conflict is non-existent. By the look of it, drivers aren't an issue, but the internal firmware of this USB server. I'm hoping StarTech investigates problems that clients such as myself are experiencing and releases a firmware update. Otherwise the deice is practically useless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor reliabilityAfter using it for one year, the conclussion is that it provides no reliability. You need to keep power cycling the unit every day, otherwise, the unit "dissapears" from the network (loses IP address).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Gizmo for home usersI got this product from Startech to test and it is ok if you just need to have it at home as a shared drive but, I don't recommend it for a business office because i experience some connectivity issues on couple occasions. Please make sure to read the installation steps otherwise you will be looking into a bunch of folders until you find what you need.Disclaimer - I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from uselessI purchased this device a month ago and when I finally got around to trying it the unit would only work for 5 to 10 minutes once powered. Once the unit dies it was unreachable via ping and the StarTech app. I tried using dhcp and a hard ip address with the same results. The unit was returned to StarTech for replacement and my "new" unit behaves exactly the same way. I should have looked at the previous reviews of this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GarbageDoes not maintain it's connection to the network. Needs to be continuously powered off and on again. We bought this for a USB license key to be attached to a server in a remote location, so there is nobody there to power cycle the device to reconnect it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would Definately Recommend this ProductI was surprised to see some of the negative reviews on this product and I went in skeptical but it didn't stop me from trying it myself. I hooked up a USB hard drive and then installed the server software. It found my hard drive immediately and connected it as if it was hooked directly to my computer. I started transferring multi-gigs worth of data and I was getting a steady 24MB/s transfer (as expected over USB.). I did not have any of the issues that other users had like the disconnecting after 30min to an hour. The device stayed online for multiple days during testing. If you right click the device in the server software there is an option to "Connect Device Automatically" so maybe that's why I didn't have any of the issues other people had? One thing I didn't like about this product is that the power cable doesn't seem to fit properly and easily pulls out of the device if you are handling it. Otherwise, if you have a USB device that you want to put on the network then I would definitely recommend this product.I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient for Multiple UsersA convenient way for several of our laptop users to share an optical drive or USB drive. Setup/configuration was simple and reconnected automatically after rebooting. Downside was sporadically it would lose the connection and we'd have to power the device on and off.Disclaimer - I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.
