The Adaptec RAID 1225SA card is an eSATA, two-port, PCI Express x1 controller featuring Adaptec HostRAID™ - an integrated RAID technology that maximizes system performance and uptime.
The Adaptec 1225SA supports up to two 3Gb/s Serial ATA drives, Native Command Queuing, and offers RAID levels 0, 1, and JBOD (individual drive). The Adaptec 48-bit logical block addressing (LBA) support enables use of disk drives exceeding 137 GB in capacity. The Adaptec 1225SA supports Windows® Vista, XP, 2003, as well as Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, NetWare and SLES.
Two-port eSATA PCIe RAID controller
Initially Serial ATA (SATA) was designed as an internal, or inside-the-box, interface technology, bringing improved performance and new features for disk and tape drives inside the PC system. Now, the same performance and features are available for storage needs outside the PC, without relying on USB or 1394 connectivity.
Called external SATA or eSATA, this technology allows customers to utilize shielded cable lengths up to 2 meters outside the PC to take advantage of the benefits the SATA interface brings to storage. eSATA provides up to 5 times more performance than existing solutions and supports hot-plug devices as well.
Designed to the latest eSATA 3Gb/s SATA specification, the Adaptec RAID 1225SA two-port controller features HostRAID™ —an integrated RAID technology that can be easily configured as 2 individual ports with no RAID (JBOD), with RAID 0, or with RAID 1.
Adaptec RAID 1225SA performance advantages:
When installed into the fast PCIe bus, this controller ensures maximum data throughput of 3Gb/s per port. In addition, the latest external SATA (eSATA) connector also provides more secure cable connection, improved durability, increased EMI protection, and up to 2 meters cable length.
Throughput up to 200Mb/s of sustained data transfer can be achieved using standard 7,000 RPM SATA hard drives by setting up 2 drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Applications ideal for the Adaptec 1225SA include external direct attached storage for professional workstations and entry servers.

The intuitive Adaptec Storage Manager™ (ASM) tool centralizes management of all Adaptec RAID products. ASM enables remote RAID management, monitoring, and configuration through secure, encrypted communication. Pop-up tips and online help simplify RAID array creation and management.
