For my personal use, I noticed that the high yield cartridge lasts at least 1 year longer than the regular one. It definitely is worth the extra cost in the long run.

I ordered the cartridge online and was worried it would take a few days which would rev a disaster. I ordered the cartridge in the late afternoon and it arrived the very next morning. HP is definitely concerned about keeping their customers’ computers up and running.

But twice I have tried to align the printer and I'm still getting a double shadow effect. I didn't have this problem before. I took the cartridge out and tried it again, but still a shadow. It is an old printer. The cartridge came within 2 weeks of ordering.

I tried to print documents today and the printer showed a message that ink cartridge is low. Not sure if it's the cartridges but the 2 pack that I bought back in February didn't last either. To my understanding it was high yield cartridges. Not really happy about this. I've always been satisfied with HP and their service. This is not one of those times.

I manually stretched it and placed it back into the ink holder. The cartridge seems to have seated, although I would have far preferred the sound of that clip "snapping" the cartridge into place and seated tightly. I hope as I use the printer the cartridge does not decide to raise up and ruin my printer. I tried several times today to call HP but was never able to figure out the correct phone number. This is the first time this has happened in all of the years of using this printer. I bought this cartridge from HP in October 2018.

I purchase a HP AIO Printer that came with two ink cartridge. In three days the black cartridge ran out. So I ordered online for the 901XL that will give more print-out pages. That was over a week ago, and I have over 75% of my black ink remaining. I am preparing tax's for family members and friends, and I need all the ink power I can get. This product gives you allot then the regular 901 Black. It cost a little more then the regular black cartridge, but not that much more. Just go price checking and see for yourself because in the long run, It is your best choice.

Since this is my first experience with the the XL cartridge, we'll see. Is selling printers a strategy to make money selling ink cartridges? Seems so, because the printers become better and cheaper whereas the ink cartridges seem to become smaller and more expensive. it would have been better to have sent me this request after what statistics show to be the average life of the cartridge. Then I can give a review about whether or not it met or exceeded my expectations! The idea of offering the XL is good: you seem to be giving over 3 times the ink for twice the price of the regular cartridge of 200 sheets. Hope it works out that way!

The last time there was ink all over when we went to use the unit (we didn't know it broke). The body plastic broke behind the orange electrical-contact strip. Obviously, there's an issue with these cartridges. These 901XL are always bought directly from HP -- I only use HP (NO refills). The packaging was undamaged. It would be nice if I could get a replacement, but my e-mail came back with the HP support person passing the buck instead of owning the issue.

It always seems that you "just" replaced something. So I went back to my order history and found that my last cartridge was ordered and rec'd late August, so it lasted over 10 months. Our household printer usage is ocassional at best so yes, I still feel that the ink cartridge does not last as long as expected but I had to consider some inputs to make a less biased opinion. Even though the price is quite high, consider the variables before forming an opinion such as free & fast delivery and company discounts you may be eligle for. I can't really recommend or not recommend but you have to get your ink somewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Ink In The 901 Color HP is manufacturing the 901 color cartrige with what seem More Ink. The 901 black is just about the same as the older cartriges, (less ink), but they offer a special larger size black. If they can put more ink in the same size cartrige, then all of the cartriges could be the same. It seems the issue with HP printers, are the not the printers themselves, they are top notch and popularly priced. But the contant issues have always been the price of the ink, and the quantity. HP needs to follow the Kodak's lead, and bring down the price and quantity of ink used, and to readjust their default setting for how much ink to lay down on the page. I have adjusted mine to use 25% less ink than default which is perfectly adequate for everything but photographs, which by the way are infinately cheaper to print at Wal Mart considering the price of paper and ink from HP. All in all, my HP All In One has proven to be the best printer I have used from HP since 1999, thus my rating above.

I've used only HP printers for my home office for 20+ years and wouldn't have any other. What really knocked my socks off, though, was how quickly the ink cartridges emptied. I checked the printer throughout hoping that I didn't have a leak or something going wrong internally. Truly amazed at how quickly the ink dissipated and I wasn't printing anything extraordinary. Well, I'm on my second 901 combo pack (black and tri-color) and hoping for the best but I may need to do an offering to the printer Gods in order to get an economical ink usage to match the economical price of the printer. It prints good but makes a lot of noise in doing so. Bang Clink Clang as it prints or much more noise then the Dell. I had a HP5400 for 10 plus years that did not sound like this and worked great. Based on this I don't need a printer with six cartridges. The 4500 uses two (2) 901 cartridges. I can purchase a 901 cartridge or a 901 XL cartridge or I can purchase a package of 1 standard black along with 1 color. I don't understand why I HP does not make a 901 XL color and I don't understand why I can't buy a combination pack of color and black in an Xl pack. I also will go on to state that HP makes in my opinion the best printers on the market. What I don't understand is why the cartridges are so far overpriced. They could sell each cartridge for about half of what they sell them for currently, still make a lot of profit and double their printer sales.

The major difficulty is that the printing is not WYSIWYG. Accordingly, I have wasted a LOT of ink and paper doing reprints of photos.

But then, it goes along well with my HP laptop, which after a year no longer has a "c" or an "n" (the letters are worn off of the flat keys) and the HP printer, which runs out of ink without warning....

I tried to install this cartridge, and the printer did not recognize it. I had to take it back, and get one of the lower efficiency cartridges. In theory, a good value, but it did not work for my printer.

My HP Officejet 4500 is only used to print out online purchases and banking. Not even used 2x weekly. Also, there was no warning, such as lighter printouts: just went dead, which left me with no ink to even print the Fedex pre-signed delivery slip, a huge inconvenience!! The original cartridges were purchased at Sam's Club, when I purchased the printer, all official HP products. Maybe these cartridges, purchased directly from HP, will perform better. Perhaps poor storage quality at Sam's affected the product performance. I have always had great confidence in HP products in the past, so we will see how this goes. The black cartridge is installed and working perfectly at this time. I don't think I will purchase cartridges from Sam's anymore just in case.

The problem is the number of pages that can be printed before the print starts to gray out. When you start to see print going gray you can pause the printing, wait a few minutes and sometimes get another page printed. Changing the cartridge causes a pain in the pocket book. These suckers are EXPENSIVE! The only way you can save money it to stand around until Staples or WalMart put these things on sale. Trying to save money by buying off-brand cartridges is a problem. Most HP machines can tell if an off-brand cartridge is used and Tech Support certainly can! Not a good idea.

I do not get 700 pages from it. In black and white, in 2010 I used the printer less than I have past printers, yet I spent more than I have ever spent on ink. The majority of my ink consumption was on printing, with a small amount on copying. Bottom line, if you are looking at HP printers or other devices, avoid those that use this ink cartridge. It’s sister cartridge, the 901, is no better. HP – you did not deliver on this one – there is a zero bang for the buck.

After going through several the past two years and keeping a print log on my last four 901XL Blacks, I'm about ready to leave the world of HP printers. They do not perform to their stated performance. I buy the XL cartridge because I expect more ink. The cartridge is suppose to last for around 700 pages of normal printing. My last four XL cartridges were lucky to reach the 350-400 page range and that was at the lowest quality printer setting and a large percentage of those prints were only half pages! Some feedback for HP's QC and R&D teams; 1) Either double the amount of ink or cut your price in half for your 901XL Black. 2) Create a 901XL Tri-color version. I expect better from HP!! One time I purchased well in advance of when needed and the cartridge became dry and inoperative. You should also allow your ink cartridges to be refilled.

I appreciate the good value and the fact that it lasts so long. I love the direct to my home delivery from the HP store at no extra cost or inconvenience to me. I don't have to drive all over town looking for a place that has the right cartridge in stock - I just order it and in 2 days it arrives by Fedex ground right to my door! I don't even have to go to my mailbox to get it. I highly recommend this product & using the HP store.

This is the first time I have purchased this size and the printer is refusing to print. The error message reads "Incompatible print cartridge(s):[Black}]. The onscreen HP Solution Center graphic claims the cartridge is empty which is untrue. I tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in which didn't correct the problem. The help document available through the HP Solution Center was also unhelpful. I followed the recommended courses of action. I'm very dissatisfied with spending $30 on a cartridge that was suppose to last 3 1/2 times longer that the base model cartridge and only printed 200 pages.

This will be an inconvenience for me to reorder and return the #901. It took me over a half-hour to put my first order in. The first woman who was helping me was making it so difficult. Finally, another salesperson took over and we finished the order. It seemed like such a relief but then someone got the wrong ink cartridge!

Plugged in the cartridge, the printer did it's alignment process and I was off to the races printing again in just a couple minutes. FYI: I have an OfficeJet 4500 All in one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installation problems I have an HP Officejet J4680 All in One printer. I order the 901XL ink cartridge instead of the 901 cartridge that came with my printer. The printer is only a couple of months old and this would have been the first black ink cartridge replacement. I followed the directions very carefully and the cartridge clicked in just as it had when I installed the first ink cartridges. The error message was that the black Print Cartridge had a problem. I took it out, and tried again, still did not work. I have ordered the cartridges that came with the printer which yields less prints per cartridge. I tried to follow the troubleshooting instructions and still no problems solved.

I am going to have to shop around for a better printer. I was told the laser printers are best for small business and requires less ink.

I have been using HP printers for over 17yrs. for both my Tax Bus. and personal use, and have 3 at present, but the Ink cartridge 901xl is a horrible supply. 700copies...NO WAY POSSIBLE. Max has been about 350, and that is on Fast Draft, Speed printing. So far this year (actually on 8months) this ink has cost my business/personal almost 2X what my 5500 printer cost me last year. I can't imagine what the reg. 901 cartridge prints, but I know I will be looking for a better printer with much more production from its cartridges. JB

By buying directly from HP, I found in the past that I am assured of fresh ink -- not old and possibly dried up after months of sitting in some retailer's warehouse. I also avoided the possible annoyance of trying to find the cartridges I need if not stocked by the first retailer I checked. During a previous extended vacation in southwest Colorado, in a town 40 minutes from a real store, buying online from HP was a major problem-solver. HP's almost instant processing and free shipping make the time between discovering a dry cartridge and installing the replacement just a couple of business days but I am unwilling to risk the inconvenience of waiting even a short time. Ink cartridges don't run out at convenient times -- generally it's the Friday night before a 3-day weekend, Thanksgiving morning, or the day you want to create and mail a special birthday card. I would be pressed for a reason not to buy HP ink cartridges from HP.

This was time consuming and frustrating. With the 901XL I have yet to have this problem and the number of suggested pages printed has so far been exceeded with each of the 901XL cartridges that I have used, it is a great value. I have been greatly pleased not only with the number printed pages per cartridge but also the quality of the finished product. GS
