Faaaaast!
I bought this as a foundation for an AVID Media Composer editor. Added a P2200 Nvidia card, 24 G RAM for a total of 32, and a 1TB SSD for storage.

Bad design restricts memory modules used
I received the HP Z4 G4 last week and started to add memory modules and upgrade the graphics card. I found it very difficult to find the information I needed online and ended up downloading 5 different PDF files and this included a Technical White Paper that was not linked to from the product page but provided important information.
The motherboard layout places the DR4 memory modules under a fan housing for cooling them along with the CPU but it does not provide enough vertical headroom for many modules. I bought Crucial ones that had heat sinks at the top and this kept the fan housing from going back into place. The modules that ship with the computer are 1-3/8" tall and the Crucial were 2" tall. This would not have been a problem in most towers or servers but was a show stopper with the Z4 G4 computer as it was designed. It became a trial and error process to find RAM that would fit as the specifications never include the height dimensions as with 99.9 percent of computers it does not matter.
There were also half as many USB ports as the spec indicated and on the front USB ports only one had power for devices that require power from the USB port.
The next challenge will be adding a NVMe M.2 internal SSD drive as there is no documentation as to how this is done or what HP adapter is needed to mount it in the Z4 G4 computer.
My next tower for the business will be one from another company.

Much faster than the old HP.
Did not come with video card. Service was able to find a correct one and got it within a week. Added two memory sticks, but would only reconize one. No instructions. Found must place in slots 3 & 4.

Great workstation, no doubts about that
My only issue with the purchasing experience is that the workstation came without graphics card. Not HP's fault because the product description mentioned that but I missed it and would have preferred this was highlighted more. So I had to purchase the graphics card separately and had to install myself.

Disappointing.
No option to customize. Assumed ready to go. Got it. No video card, had to order. Got it but no mini adaptors. Had to order. Got it but now NO FAN. Will never order HP Again.
