HPE 3PAR Virtual Copy allows you to share and protect data from any application, simply and affordably. It enables you to take instant point-in-time (PIT) copies of your data volumes with little or no impact to your applications. These snapshots can then be repurposed for a number of uses. Since Virtual Copy uses efficient copy-on-write technology that points to existing data rather than duplicating it, snapshots consume lesser physical capacity. Physical capacity is consumed only when changes to a base volume require stale data to be retained in order to maintain the integrity of the PIT copy. This virtual solution represents a significant capacity saving over the use of traditional full physical copies.

HPE 3PAR Virtual Copy snapshots are also highly flexible. You can make hundreds of snapshots per base volume, enabling histories of application data to be archived online and economically. You can even create read-only or read-write snapshots of snapshots. Organizations can therefore selectively test, use, and change production-quality data safely and easily while protecting other snapshots from accidental or intentional changes.
