Why waste device ports for inter-switch links?
Stacking is by far the most efficient method for creating multi-switch networks. Stacking port inter-switch links (ISLs) offer up to three times the bandwidth of ISLs created using regular device ports (see line speed numbers below).
Therefore, a single stacking cable can replace 3 fiber optic cables and 6 expensive 8Gb SFPs – as well as saving 6 or more switch ports for servers and storage.
