Know your gear

The R300WN22OP5 Outdoor Wireless Access Point lets you create or extend the range of a 5GHz Wireless-N (300Mbps) network to an outdoor location, letting your wireless devices connect to your network with enhanced reliability and speed, with less network congestion.

By isolating your wireless network to a 5GHz frequency, your dual-band smartphone, tablet or laptop operates with less interference from other devices on common 2.4GHz networks. For ideal wireless coverage across large outdoor areas, the access point integrates into your existing Wireless A/N or wired network to broadcast a WiFi SSID via a high-power 600mW internal 14dBi 2T2R directional antenna.

This PoE-powered access point includes a passive Power-over-Ethernet injector, so it can be conveniently installed in locations where a typical power outlet is unavailable.

For versatile outdoor installation, the access point features a weather-resistant housing and is pole and wall-mountable for easier placement.

Supporting wireless data rates up to 300Mbps, the high-performance outdoor AP is compatible with 802.11a/n devices, offers support for WEP, WPA, and WPA2 authentication, incorporates switchable WISP or Bridged operation modes and is configurable through an easy-to-use web-based utility.

Backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great access point - 80211a/5GHz onlyI bought this to use indoors to provide connectivity to a temporary classroom. All the PCs in the classroom have 802.11a capability so this access point was an inexpensive choice. It's easy to set up if you understand IP networking and are able to set a workstation or PC to a static IP address in the same subnet as the access point's default address. Doing so lets you configure the AP to whatever IP address you want to use, normally an unused address on your LAN, It uses passive POE, not active POE of the sort that is built in to many enterprise-class Ethernet switches. So, you must use the included wall wart power supply and POE injector. If it were dual-band for the same price I'd give it five stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Do not workBought 2 pairs for 2 different sites as wireless bridges. Constantly had to power cycle radios as they would drop connection. Tech support blamed power lines or interference. Both sites were short range and had no power lines or interference. Replaced with different manufacturer and problems have been resolved.
