I bought it based on the design, but also based on other glowing reviews from people who needed the protection it offered and the customer service response they received from Tripp-Lite. It has a very high absorption of over 3000 joules, and it has a very good warranty if a surge does happen. It also has a light that indicates when the protection is OK versus when it has taken a surge (all protectors of this type are sacrificial in that they are rendered unusable when they absorb a surge). Four of the outlets are widely spaced so one can plug in a power adapter. While I won't know for sure until a surge comes along, the unit seems very well made. I found it very convenient for my application. I actually purchased multiple units to use with my different office equipment and televisions. Recommended.

My antique stereo and Akai reel to reel are too valuable to not be protected by one of the best surge protectors. I did my research and after a lightning strike that my other protectors failed to save my flat screen and DVD player i got the best.
