Tripp Lite's USB 3.0 SATA Hard Drive Dock gives you a quick and easy way to set up an external hard drive storage system. Plug the docking station into an available USB 3.0 port on your computer, then insert a 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drive for an instant external storage device. Transfer data at SuperSpeed USB 3.0 rates up to 5 Gbps (provided computer is USB3.0 capable). Far easier than installing the hard drive internally or in a caddy, the USB3.0/SATA Dock is easy to use, convenient and practical. Compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Win7/Win8. Backward compatible to older USB 2.0 and 1.1 computers (480mbps and 12mbps transfer speeds respectively). Includes 100-240V AC Adapter, and 4-ft. USB 3.0 cable. Rated 5 out of 5 bydusty9 from Simple and versatile with many usesRather than being a hard drive enclosure, this unit is a docking station that accepts both 3.5" and 2.5" sata hard drives. It has both esata and usb connections and is external AC powered. It can be used for backups, for testing and formatting hard drives, or left plugged in for use as an additional hard drive. This is especially useful for laptops or small form factor systems with no room for additional hard drives. It is a clean simple design that appears to be well made. It is not as portable as the ultra small usb powered external drives, but its other good features more than make up for that.

I've successfully used this for data transfers, formatting, hard drive testing, and even simple data recovery. This is a great product and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anybody.

The last time I copied the same drive using my old USB2.0 hard drive dock it took over 2 days. Windows is predicting completion in 10 hours with this dock. And this dock is so much better than my old one - it leaves much more of the drive exposed for drive cooling, yet it feel very solid. My old dock was always tricky for lining up the drive, this one was slide in and click! I have a lot of different Tripp-lite products and cables and have always found them to be well designed and worth the extra $ over the cheap junk options. This sleek HDD dock is nicely made and very attractive.
