Rated 5 out of 5 by from very troublesome bought this scanner with the purpose of getting rid of our over flowing filing cabinet. The size of the scanner itself is nice but the functionality is horrible. No matter how many times you attempt to scan multiple documents you either get some sort of error message, the scanner randomly stops, crooked scans, or like in our case the scanner pulls multiple pages through at once so if your not catching and counting each invidual document or reviewing your scans you may never know. Unfortunately for us we are unable to return the scanner because our computer wasnt delivered to us within the time frame to return the scanner due to the pandemic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super high quality from a tiny scanner! I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I was very impressed with this little guy. First impressions were good with easy set up, you just peel off a few pieces of securing tape, attach the power cord and USB cable, then download the software. Instructions are easy to follow. Looks sturdy and well made, with a flip up cover/document feeder. Now the real test, can it do the job? It does! Scanning is quick and I don`t think I`ve ever seen such a clean sharp color scan. What I love as well is that it`s got a special slot to scan both the front and back of a card at the same time. I tried that right away to scan my driver`s license, and a credit card with no damage to the card and an image that is about as clear as the original as you can get. I can`t wait to start scanning in all the photos I`ve been saving for the right scanner, not to mention all the documents for both home and work.

SET UP: The directions made it very easy to understand and actually connect this scanner to my computer. It took about 20 minutes from start to finish. The majority of the time was waiting for it to connect to my computer, it did take a little bit of time to get it connected to our home internet.PRODUCT USE: Hit power, put the paper in, press the button and it will scan and then a box pops up on your computer asking what you would like to do with the document. Super quick and simple. I do wish it was wireless though as so many things are today, but it comes with the cable to connect it and was super easy to do so. It is small so can fit in even a tight space. I have a printer/scanner and have never been able to figure out the scanner on it, so nice to have something work so simply!

I had an old scanner that would only scan one page at a time and it would drive me crazy. The ease of use out of the box me anyone even if their are not tech savvy can figure out how to put together. The instructions were simple to follow and was completed in no time. After assembly learning the basics took some trial and error. After that I can scan up 20 pages at once! This scanner made my life much better and more simple. The only hard part is learning a new technology but after that this will make all scans faster and more efficient. Lastly, some people may not want to pay the price but if you scan multiple times a week this device take little space, efficient and makes your life simple for the better

I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. I use a scanner multiple times throughout the day for my work and personal business. Upon opening the product, It was very simple to remove from the box and the scanner was fully assembled. Although the instructions were very clear, I had a difficult time installing the software. My lab top is over 5 years old, so that could be part of the issue and reason it took a long time to install. After the installation was complete, I was able to scan without any issues. I was satisfied with the high quality of the images. Even when I used colored paper, or documents that contained colored print, the colors were very precise which helps keep the document looking exactly how it was prior to scanning. It was easy to scan multiple pages without them getting stuck or skipping any pages throughout the scan. The scanner also gives you the option to input pages before or after already scanned items which is a time saver since you don`t have to scan everything all over again if you miss any pages like I`ve had to do with other scanners. The documents scanned fairly fast and the paper fed smoothly through the scanner. Everything was very simple and straight forward when using the scanner.

I haved used my fair share of scanners both professionally and personally, and nearly all of them presented some difficulty in some aspect or left something to be desired when it came to performance. Not this scanner! This was one of the easiest pieces of electronic equipment I`ve ever used. Install was easy and the device was up and scanning within minutes of removing it from the box. This unit is much smaller than I anticipated, which is great for having it close to my computer as it doesn`t take up much space on my desk. I have almost always had issues with scanners, especially when it comes to scanning multiple pages. This scanner solved all of those issues- scans extremely quickly and adding pages to the same scan file is simple and easy. I find this scanner to be of very high quality. My only complaint is as follows: I work off a docked laptop and had to undock the laptop in order to connect the USB cable for install. This is more an issue with my office setup (the dock is in a cabinet with no access to the USB ports on the laptop dock rather than the scanner, but I was hoping for wireless connection capabilities and the ability to download the install program/software automatically. I believe this wifi connection option is available with other Brother scanner models, so it should be taken into consideration when purchasing. Overall, I am incredibly satisfied with every aspect of this scanner and could not recommend it any more highly for your home or office/desk needs.

Initially I had some software/driver problems. I wanted to use the scanner within another pdf scanning software.What came with the scanner worked, I just wanted to use what I had been using (same software company for bothNo luck with Brother or software company tech supports getting it to work.What I did was delete the Brother and other software driver. Then when I started my scanner software it told me no driver found and did I want to use the default Windows 10 driver. I chose yes. Then everything worked perfectly.The scanner is FAST! Quality of scan is very good to excellent.I do not use it for high quality photo scanning, so I do not know how well it does with those.One reason I chose it was for duplex scanning, which is working flawlessly so far.No jams or shredded documents...yet.Yes, a paper catching tray would be nice, but it is also very nice how small the desktop footprint is. That was important to me.I can without hesitation recommend this for SOHO and personal use.I cannot comment on high volume use.

Easy to install and set up, was scanning within minutes of opening the box. Easy to use but i would say turning it off was confusing. I hit the power button and nothing happened. I pressed and held the button for 5 seconds and still nothing happened. So i just unplugged it. Other than that, it works great and smoothly. quality is good.

Turned out it was an unusual USB cable that was NOT included in the box! Very frustrating. This scanner does not connect wirelessly to Mac using Mojave. Written instructions did not lead me to a solution. Also frustrating. Have only tried scanning 1 page at a time. Does ok with that.

I was really looking forward to testing this scanner. I generally like Brother products, having had two of their printers, which keep working for years without giving me any grief. Indeed, this scanner is quite adept at its task, stemming, no doubt from Brother`s rich experience with document handling. We run a paperless office, and while most documents arrive electronically, we still have to process an occasional paper document, to get it entered into the system. I used to use a flatbed scanner, which was slow and took up a lot of desk space. I then switched to a scanner which is in the top part of my multifunction printer/scanner/fax, but its two-pass process and crooked paper path cause jams and ruin source docs.This scanner looks like a compact brick with a fairly compact wall-wart style power supply. This particular model does not connect over WiFi or any other type of network. Hence, it must be connected by a USB cable to the host computer. Once it is connected to the power and the computer, it should be ready for use, assuming you have the drivers installed. To get to the control panel, you need to flip up the top cover, which in the up-position becomes a document holder. As it is still not tall enough to support letter-sized pages, there is a pair of rabbit-ears-type arms which swing up to provide additional support to the papers being scanned. Indeed, with these ears up, the papers are quite stable in the document holder. You need to adjust the document guides to the with of the paper. I like the adjustability - the scanner does not constrain the user to a specific size of paper, and would probably work with anything smaller than legal-size documents, down to as small as business cards.The scanner scans both sides of paper in a single pass, which is great. Not only this is faster, but fewer scans mean fewer opportunities for documents to jam. The paper path is fairly straight, and business cards get scanned without an issue. If anything, one complaint is that the scanner shoots out the papers out of the front slot too vigorously and they seem to fly out quite far - after a while I put a coffee cup in front of the scanner to keep papers from flying off my desk. Obviously, this is a very minor niggle.The bigger problem is with the software and the online support. When I tried to register my new scanner, the website reported that it is no longer supported, even though I was able to download the drivers and other software for it. I am not sure if this a problem with my specific unit, which may have been recorded as an evaluation item.The other issue is with the PC-based software which is bundled with the scanner. I was excited about trying out PaperPort - I had used it in the past and had some success with the OCR. The PaperPort version which is included here, however, doesn`t seem to do OCR - I suspect this functionality comes with the Professional version, which seems to cost money to upgrade. I am not sure if this is really the case, since after trying it out for several hours, I gave up on trying to use OCR capabilities. The iPrint and Scan software also seems to have some quirks - it has the right idea of allowing the users to set up a workflow which will scan the document and direct it to the application of your choice, but it is not obvious as to which program to associate it with. I had erroneously selected a wrong program, and the software wouldn`t let me remove it from the workflow, so it kept messing up the results of my scans. I ended up avoiding this workflow feature altogether. This is unfortunate, because in my opinion this feature has high potential. So my take is that this is a huge improvement over the other scanners I`ve used before, but the software can be much improved to make it even more useful.

This product was much smaller than I anticipated, which was really nice. It is compact and does not take up a lot of room on my desk. It looks very sleek and professional. When you are not scanning, the load tray folds down, providing a neat and clean look. The directions for setting up the scanner were a bit confusing to follow. There are directions that allow other model scanners to have the date and time set up and to be connected via wireless network, however not this product, which made things a bit confusing. Once connected to the computer, the driver must be installed by going to the Brother website. This was easy enough, although I did have to restart the download several times to get it to fully install. After it was installed and ready to go, scanning documents was super easy! The scanned documents can be saved in various different formats, which I really like. All the formats look great and were easy to save to the computer and use as needed. Overall, this product has exceeded my expectations despite some initial setup confusion.

When I opened the box of the Brother ADS-1200 Scanner it was packaged very nicely. Everything was very in a clear plastic tight bag, hinges were taped tightly. There was styrofoam securing the device in the box. The packing was great. The scanner itself was just okay. The instructions were not clear. The programing took well over 30 minutes to install on my computer. Once, installed it suggested to download more programs for easy organization and storage. I ran the scanner once and it didn`t scan anything. I tried the second time and realized that I didn`t have it correctly positioned. I ran it again and it worked. I then got the (!) point on the scanner error and unfortunately was unable able to figure out what was wrong with it. All and all I think it is a good product, it does the job and helps to be more organized. I would not purchase it for myself. It is really time-consuming to work and If I am already unorganized I don`t want to have to wait almost 1.5 hours to get my office organized. I will continue to use file folders and keep paper. Oh- and the programs are a little out of date. I feel like they should at least be better and user-friendly.

I believe I am uniquely qualified to write this as I have been using similar scanners for years. As such, I know what the glitches are usually with scanners and what to expect. Normally, one would have to use less then the recommended pages or it will jam. Did not happen with this product. Also, there is a whole string of settings and this was super easy. I`m so glad I got to use this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from *BUYER BEWARE* Crooked Scans coming your way The speed and quality (even at just 300 dpi is impressively sharp when viewing scanned Tax Returns on my 27" widescreen display. However there is a serious problem that may very well be the reason I decide to return it.. and its crooked scan outputs. If you scan 3-4 pages at one time, at least 2 of them will scan crooked even if you place the papers in as neatly and aligned as you can. This is due to 2 reasons: 1) The way it feeds paper, it starts with the page at the very back of the stack (touching the black tray) and continues in that order until the last scan is the page that was facing you. The problem is that every time a sheet is pulled through the scanner, the force that it takes to fight the friction caused by the weight of the stack is more than enough to shift the next few pages out of alignment. Then it pulls a misaligned page through causing the remaining stack to start leaning towards one side. I scanned a 17 page Tax Return and the last page was so out of line by the time it got pulled through that the title at the top got cut off by the left border of the page, and the bottom 20% of the page was cut off by the right border of the page. The results get worse the more pages in the stack. And then, Brother's iPrint&Scan software has an "auto deskew" option that doesn't do ANYTHING. After waiting for 17 pages to scan, the results were every single page was out of line. Some were leaning to the left, some to the right, some were cut off, some look like they came out of a black hole looking all warped like those eye trickery illusions where one end of the same horizontal line looks extra big compared to the opposite end that looks thinner than it actually is on paper. You get what i'm saying? Which brings me to my next point... 2) The alignment bracket on the feed tray is too wide for 8.5x11" standard printer paper (which is what it's designed to hold if you look at the dimensions written on the tray). It has one job... to hold 8.5x11" paper nicely together. But you will NEVER get to take advantage of that bracket because it doesn't matter if you scan 1 page or 25 pages, the bracket will always be too wide. I can't even get a straight scan putting one in at a time. Usually I don't write reviews but i'm pretty annoyed that none of these 15+ page Tax Returns look close to a normal scan job. There's extra grey bordering on every page and I have to deskew and then crop every.... single..... page....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Met All Expectations This is a great little scanner. I'm using it on a LINUX laptop with xsane. The setup for that was a snap. I also installed the software on Windows 10 and I can't say the same for it. The installation took a LONG time, but it does provide one advantage - it can scan very long documents. The xsane software limits the document length to (I believe 15 inches. Scanning to a thumbdrive produces one pdf file per scanned page. I'd prefer a jpg format, but I don't plan to use this feature much if at all. I'd definitely recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scanner that is easy to use this scanner is easy to st up and use. You can add pages so if you have a document that is 50 pages keep adding. If uou need to delete a page you can do thay as well even rotate. And if you ar doing two sided prints it leave out theblank pages. I am not computer savvy so i have not tried the software that comes with it. Or have not figured out how to increase the resolution.

The online reviews and price point convinced me to give this machine a shot. I have been blown away how well this scanner works. Setup was extremely easy and the ability to create saved workflows was an unexpected pleasure. The scanning speed when plugged to AC power in is very fast with no misfeeds. I use the usb power when scanning just a few pages and the scanning speed is acceptable. My one complaint are the paper guides. They have a tendency to fold back on themselves when inserting paper so I end up spending a little more time getting the documents lined up. Overall, I highly recommended this scanner.

Small foot print also a plus however, flimsy paper feed mechanism requires babysitting for anything more then crisp pages and only a few pages at a time. I regret not spending a little more for the 2200 series. Also have the 2700 model and it is fabulous. It would be nice if there were a trade up option.

I have to make sure I connect via an adapter specifically for USB 2.0. Neither using a USB-3.0 micro to USB-C cable nor using an adapter rated for USB 3.0 work. This is rather frustrating.Harley

Couple of things I do not like are, I have another scanner program that I would rather use, but when I scan to it, the image is not clear as it should be. The brother program is perfectly clear, but it is a pain to delete multiple files out of it. Overall really am happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use The scanner works quite well. I am having a hard time getting my receipts to stay straight when I scan them, but other documents seem to feed ok. I'm still playing with using the guides in various positions to see if that helps. The scan quality is great for my purposes, which is just personal and small business document archival.

It scans front and back on the first scan and the quality is great! And it is takes up very little of my desk, which is much smaller here at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value and Compact Design I was looking for a scanner to replace my All-In-One that was taking up too much room on my physical desktop. I recommend downloading the manual as I did BEFORE buying to avoid surprises. I didn't need a wireless WIFI feature since the scanner would be next to my desktop PC. I also don't need portability but the compact size is ideal. I am surprised that it doesn't have more limitations, but aside from a flatbed option, this does everything better and faster than my All-In-One in a very small footprint.. I like that closes up to keep the dust out of the feeder. The scanner software/interface is very versatile and user-friendly. It came with optional software to organize receipts and an OCR but I don't use any of that. I just scan to Acrobat and save in my PC's file structure and backup system. I've been using it for a month and it has performed perfectly.

I contacted Brother and we tried several things to fix it but they refused to send me a replacement because it was 13 months old. Not within the 1 year warranty window. I'm very disappointed.

Also the light that comes on when there is an error stays on. One thing is I wish companies would include the book with tech information. Not everyone is tech savy .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will only last a year I bought this scanner 1 year ago and in exactly 1 year it stopped scanning properly and is pulling through multiple pages at once. I reported to Brother and they said they can't cover under warranty. I think it is a simple fix maybe one of the rollers or the mechanism that separates the pages. I am very disappointed in the product. I also have a Brother printer and it is slowing down and will not copy as fast it is also only a year or so old. I will not buy a Brother product again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems a good little scanner... I bought this scanner - ADS-1200 - for a couple of reasons. One was that I wanted to "digitize" a mountain of genealogical research documents to mitigate the ever growing paper storage nightmare my research has created. And second, to likewise scan the growing number of physical photos I have. I find it interesting to note that the marketing literature lists scanning PHOTOS as one of the typical uses for the scanner, yet the Users Manuallists PHOTOS as one of the UNACCEPTABLE Documents. Talk about confusing! Regardless, it does seem to be doing a pretty good job for BOTH tasks, despite the warning about the non-use for scanning pictures. It does it quite well, if you don't try to push too many pictures through the feeder, and that they aren't all bent up. Document pages are quite easy with the auto-feeder more than up to the task. Plus, the automatic double sided scanning is a real bonus. The compact size helps on my otherwise cluttered (and small) desktop. All in all, I think it will turn out to be a great partner in my efforts to declutter my research efforts.
