Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much, much better than my old Panasonic machine. I am not yet fully proficient in using your Laser Fax, because I have not had it long enough. I use it all the time as a landline telephone. I use it often as a copier and occasionally to send a fax, rarely to receive a fax.

I wanted a no-frills laser fax machine so that I didn't have to deal with the hassle of ink cartridges anymore, and this fit the bill perfectly. So far, I haven't had a single problem. It hasn't even jammed once. I am very pleased with this product, and it only makes it better that HP payed for it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost great, except,,,, We have had this new Brother machine for a couple of months now and I still cannot get it to 100% functionality. We can send faxes and we can receive faxes but only if the sender has sent the fax via a computer. For some reason unknown, the machine will not receive faxes sent from other fax machines. So far, no one can help me solve this problem. When I call Brother, they send me a fax from a computer and say "You are receiving faxes." They do not seem to have an actual fax machine to test that for me. I am at wits end with this. Our previous Brother machine lasted more then 10-years but this one is a near total disaster. I don't know if this is a clash between old and new technology or what and no one else seems to know either. If I could get this problem solved, I would gladly give a great review but until then, I cannot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Real Fax machine !!!! Had an old thermal piece of junk that always jammed was slow and used that primitive thermal roll. What a difference. The 2840 is fast sending receiving and printing out reports. See, no jams using recommended page. Did get off track setting up. I needed to use an external voice mail machine but used the wrong option. I needed brother to say "do you use voice FROM THE PHONE COMPANY not just voice mail. Once i got that straight it was a cinch. Brother is very thorough in their instructions and there is a lot of them and they should be read. Especially the setup instructions and checking each menu setting. Nice job Fax Machine support team.

Previous Brother printer, just had to place paper, press scan, and immediately item appeared on computer screen. No flat screen to put paper on to fax, scan... Machine says toner needed when there is still sufficient toner. Difficult to awaken printer from sleep or deep sleep. Other than these 4 problems, machine fairly easy to use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Customer Service We purchased this fax machine in October 2015. For several months we have had problems with only getting partial lines on faxes. We have spoken twice with Brother only to be told it is our line. We have VOIP. It is not our line. We hooked another fax machine up and have had no issue. Each line we've connected this particular fax machine to, we continue to have the same issue. It is a machine issue, not a line issue; however, the reps from Brother refuse to believe this and try to help with correction of the problem. For this reason I will no longer buy Brother products.

I need to set up the dialing procedure yet. My husband thinks it should say something more once the fax has been sent.. I do wish it was a little more compact.

While the pages go thru quickly the time to actually send it is much longer. Also, it has the same ring tone as our phones so we keep picking up our phone thinking it is ringing - when it is just the fax machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, works well We purchased this fax machine in late January 2019 when our original fax machine needed to be replaced. It was easy to install, and has worked well for us. We rely primarily on email, but some documentation has to be sent and received via fax. Two caveats: 1 It's noisy when it dials out (the screechy modem connection sound I hadn't heard in years) and that's annoying to some people who have nearby offices. 2) The location and angle of the screen is a bit awkward - you can't glance at it and see what it says, you have to bend over the top surface a bit to read the screen. If they redesign the machine I'd suggest either a different angle for the top surface or putting the screen at the bottom of the top surface, above the manual feed tray. I think the first suggestion is the better one.

Our office has 2 of these machines due to being spread out and on multiple floors. The only negative thing about this machine is that it goes through ALOT of toner even with the save toner option is selected. I have not heard a complaint about so far. Would buy another one though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs Great My laptop modem / software stopped working correctly. I had a few hundred pages to fax. I went to the store and purchased the Brother IntelliFax-2840. I searched online first before going to the store, to check out the features and reviews. I have since faxed all of the documents and then some. People are complaining that the USB cable is not included. How many printers / fax machines have ever included the cable? Try almost none. People read the specifications, the descriptions, what is included and the reviews. The memory is huge, holding up to 400 pages in memory. The fax can load an almost unlimited amount of pages, if you add a few on top as it is scanning the document(s) into the machine for faxing or copying. The specifications list 20 if stacked evenly or 30 if angled. This fax is mainly for personal or small business use. This fax is perfect for my uses.

At first I was not able to receive Faxes with this machine, but the telephone company installed a clean line with low noise. I guess the machine will not work with any noise on the line. I called the service department two times and they walked me through the trouble shooting as best they could. They did not know why the machine would not receive faxes on the dedicated fax line but would receive faxes on the voice telephone line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100,000 or bust I have had my 2840 for 5 months and have 19,000 faxes already. It is very fast-It has a large memory and processes used paper very well. My last brother fax got 180,000 faxes before it died. I hope this one is just as reliable. Sa far it seems to be!!

There were too many brother fax copier instructions listed in the manual leading one to think that they could download a scanner driver. You can only download a printer driver. For the price of the equipment, it would nice if it the ability to scan and I could use a scanner. Maybe you send me a scanner.

Initial toner life is somewhat abbreviated but regular, full size replacement toner seems to be available at numerous retail outlets and often at discount prices. Bit pricy to get decent length (6ft) USB cord (not included) to link Fax to Desktop. However, once installed, Fax works great as printer with good quality output. Only difficult time was downloading updated printer driver from Brother site.

In view of the fact it had lasted such a long time, we wanted to stick with another Brother product. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible for home office I have had this product for over two years. I bought it specifically so that I could fax applications AND print in bulk without wasting a ton of ink. It prints fine- no complaints there. However, I have rarely sent a fax where it went through correctly. You have to stand over it and feed it one paper at a time AT PRECISELY THE RIGHT TIME or it will suck all of them up together and you never get the entire package faxed. I've had lots of other problems too, and had to deal with customer service multiple times; never having anything actually solved. I bought this to solve my home office problems, but now I rely on the public library's fax machine because it is 1000 times more reliable. Sad.

Even at that, if I try to fax more than about 10 pages, it sucks in multiple pages and I have to start over. I am replacing this with Brother Compact Monochrome Laser All-in-One Multifunction Printer, MFCL2710DW, as it has a 50 page auto feed and is cheaper and it is an all in one.

Even the guys in the shop can use it without taking up my time. That's a big plus. When I did call in with a question, they were very professional and treated me like I was important. I do wish the unit had an instant sent confirmation, when as fax is sent, instead of having to wait until the next date for an update. I had an HP fax machine that offered a sent confirmation when the fax was sent and then an event log print out monthly. I liked that feature.

The unit is much larger with the paper attachments out... Setup was fast and easy as advertised. The display window is small and hard to read even with max brightness. Print is crisp and the paper handler works well. The unit is now fully setup and operational. Wish I had known about the 2940 before I purchased this dinosaur...

This machine is better purposed for outgoing faxes and I would not recommend using as sole source for incoming faxes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Buy I like this fax, but miss 2 features that were on a previous Brother Intellifax 1270e that I had for many years: 1) I could continue to load pages into the feeder, so I could fax more than 30 pages allowed on the 2840. 2) On the 1270e I could print a confirmation of the fax after I sent it. On the 2840, it has to be programmed prior to sending and deprogrammed if no longer needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving It So Far!! We purchased the Brother IntelliFax-2840 a few months ago. Although we aren't HEAVY users of the fax machine, we DO rely on it for many specific needs. We replaced our PanaFax UF-585 with this model after doing some extensive research on the internet of various fax machine models, which there are NOT a lot of out there these days. The clarity of the print-outs and the speed of sending and receiving is WONDERFUL! I wish the display window was a bit larger or maybe tilted up more for easier viewing, but it works. Supplies (toner are very reasonable, as well. Only time will tell if we will CONTINUE to love it, but we sure do right now! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some great features and one real loser feature This printer was my replacement for the intellifax 2820. There is one significant difference between the two. The 2820 allowed the phone to be used as an extension, but not the 2840. When a call is answered by any other phone in the house, and i pick up the 2840 phone, a message saying "phone is in use". This is a killer for me, but maybe not for others. Otherwise it is a clone for the 2820, which served me well for many years. I expect this will also. But with this problem, I will likely not buy brother again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing but trouble This is my second IntelliFax-2840. The first one never gave me a second of trouble but this last one has been nothing BUT! I like this model but I guess I got a lemon. It seems to be resetting itself and you have to know every minute detail of what settings your machine likes with your particular phone line service. It comes with 4 preset rings to receive a fax but mine has to be set on one or it doesn't work. How am I supposed to know that. I've called Brother twice for assistance but they have always told me it was a problem with my line. Wel,l they were wrong both times.

The copies come out like they were originals and the machine is so quiet, we are never disturbed by the sound when we have a bulk of faxes to send or receive. So I did my research and found this Nice brother laser fax. I wanted a no-frills laser fax machine so that I didn't have to deal with the hassle of ink cartridges anymore, and this fit the bill perfectly. This is a Great machine. The copies come out like they were originals and the machine is so quiet, we are never disturbed by the sound when we have a bulk of faxes to send or receive. Really an amazing machine and very reasonably priced. It was an easy set up, and the quality seems very good. If it can continue to perform at this level, I'm a happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from IntelliFax 2840 We use this mainly as a printer. The unit works well, BUT there is a nightmare problem when the toner or the drum needs changing. You are treated almost as criminal for trying to change your toner (THEY want to prevent you from using some of the cheaper alternate products out there. So, changing the toner or the drum is the opposite of simple and easy.

I tried to obtain information from Brother internet, but nothing works. The printer continually send the message "telephone", instead of printing. IT IS WORTHLESS!

I kept running down to the corner to run faxes when needed and the color printer I had was always running out of ink, so I was having to buy a lot of ink and I had no need for color. This printer, copier and fax was perfect for me. I've had it now for 2 months and it works great for my needs, it powers right up and provides me with the needed copies and faxes. Easy to set up and use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Addessing envelopes Purchased this particular one because the box said it did envelopes and labels, BUT it's not convenient or easy to do. To feed envelopes, you have to access the back of the machine and change some pieces....not at all convenient. To do labels, it tells you to NOT do just single labels or feed through a sheet of only partial labels. Whenever the power goes out, it reverts to landscape printing and have to reset it to portrait and I can't figure out any way to have it default to my choice of portrait printing.

THIS UNIT IS NICE, EASY SET UP AND SO FAR SO GOOD. HAVE ABOUT 20-30 INCOMING PER DAY AND SAME AMOUNT OUTGOING. I AM VERY SATISFIED. I HAD TO TALK TO BROTHER ABOUT SPEED DIAL AND THEY, AS THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXCELLENT WITH INSTRUCTIONS AND THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCT. TOOK ABOUT TWO (2 MINUTES FOR THEM TO TELL ME HOW. It stopped picking paper out of tray and displayed "no paper" message, tried more/less paper, shuffled paper, cleaned rollers, etc. to no avail. Called service and helpful operator had me adjust paper guides, machine successfully made to copies while still speaking with service. Hung up and returned machine to service ... same problem again..retried all as before. Now it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I use fax extensively in my business, sending and receiving contracts, quotes, etc. and cannot have a machine that only works sometimes. I have 2 other brother fax machines and a brother printer that I'm quite happy with, but something needs to be done about this machine ASAP Sent another email 3 days later, received response to call service again and wait on line to go through the same procedure again. I have now owned this questionable product for ten days and got two days of use. Service seems to be non-existent. I would advise any potential purchaser to carefully consider my experience before ordering this product.

I was told I had to bring the fax in to a place 2 miles from my home. Aside from which, it's too heavy to carry. Thus, I plan to throw the fax machine out. Quite disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good as a stand-alone fax machine LCD window on this newer model fax machine is extremely difficult to read, even after making contrast adjustments. The LCD window on our 16-year-old Brothers fax machine was excellent and I fully expected a new machine model would be better, not worse. Otherwise, printing quality is very good. We use this on a dedicated fax line just for sending/receiving faxes as we have several other printers connected to our computers for printing and copying. As a stand-alone fax machine, it is very good -- except for the poor quality LCD window.
