Rated 5 out of 5 byjvergili from I HATE this machineConstantly giving me trouble - paper jams, pulling in 5 pieces of paper at once, constantly needed to be shut off and turned back on to connect to the wireless signal. Overall, very poor quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by03Excursion from Best ink jet printer!!After weeks of looking for a new printer, the Brother MFC-J5830DW checks off all my requests!! There were a few reviews out there on the printer, but going to my local Staples store to put my hands on it cinched the deal. I never thought I'd need the air print, but how cool that is to print from your iPhone! I've learned my lesson to NEVER purchase ink from someone other than the maker of the printer! Just not worth the savings!! I like the back feed for paper as I have that set for legal paper. The setup was really easy and the cartridges seem to be lasting to the advertising I see. Great product with a 2 year warranty that you can extend on the Brother website to 2 more years!!

Rated 5 out of 5 byloudupe from Rough Start but Good Outcome.Purchased my MFC-J5830DW from Office Depot on June 13, 2017 so it's still a little early to critique overall performance (hence only the 4-star rating). Setting up the machine to work via Wi-Fi did prove a little sketchy (hence only the 4-star rating). The included instructions (for whatever reason) did not facilitate an easy Wi-Fi setup and I ended up contacting Customer Service three times to complete the setup. However, since completing the setup, the machine has performed as advertised and even better than I had expected; printing faster and using less ink. Wi-Fi has never dropped off and there's been no paper jams or any other malfunctions. So far, this machine is "thumbs up" and "fingers crossed".

Maybe it's because I'm a Mac-user, but only the Brother has been reliable. It has excellent print-quality and every other feature is reliable. It was easy to set up as well.

It prints quickly and the software is relatively easy to use. The ink use seems very efficient so far, especially using the ink save mode. The price was reasonable for the value. The only reason I took off one star is that occasionally the status monitor on my PC will indicate that the printer is offline, even though when I check the printer itself the WiFi indicator shows that it is connected and the signal is strong. When this happens and I try to print something, I will get an error message. Eventually, the job will print, but it may take up to a minute or more before it does.

The software seems to be glitchy especially when trying to get the printer to pick paper from a specific tray. When specifying a particular tray from the computer Pinter settings it will not obey the commands. I called the customer help line but received little satisfaction as the person seemed to know very little about this printer. Also was told that this machine was not made to use labels in it. I bought it as a business machine and am now told it won't take card stock or address labels. In all fairness the printer seems well made, prints fantastic copies and with good speed. Am planning on keeping it and will try to find a way to work around its limitations. Hopefully future software updates will correct the tray selection problem. We had a previous Brother printer and loved it. I have always found Brother printers to be real work horses that generated no problems. Hope this one will prove to be the same.
