Only after calling for technical assistance did I realize this. I mistakenly assumed that this disc was a required software to initiate use of this device. This call could have been avoided with a brief package insert explaining that the device is a "plug and play" not requiring installation of this supplemental disc before use.

Ihave not used it to write a DVD yet You can load the disk that comes with it or just start using ti to play CD's and movies without having to download any software for it. It is light weight and compact.

I wanted to make sure the one I purchased was compatable with my HP so I looked on the HP website and found this one. I was lucky in the fact that I only needed to use one usb port not two with some computers. So, I did not need to have a power outlet available. Great! It sits on top of my PC, out of the way until I need it. I am happy with this writer and have used it several times so far.
