Close in on the action with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM telephoto zoom lens. With a wide zoom range and fast, near-silent autofocus, it can be ideal for anyone looking to capture distant subjects. Equipped with NANO USM technology it quickly focuses so you're able to get the exact moment you want, as it happens. Rated 5 out of 5 by from 70-300 IS II USM LenseSo glad I went ahead and purchased this lense even after reading the negative comments. Flawless glass, no specs, smooth and so quiet! Love it. Using it on my EORS T7i. Will become my next favorite lense for sure...my 18-135 is my go to lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great IQ, solid build, well-finished, looks cool!APPEARANCE:This non-L lens looks great, is well finished, feels very solid, and has a new “modern” matte finish to it and looks, well, “very cool”. …FIT & FINISH:Frankly, it brings back memories of when Canon had only one grade of lens, (with the “FL” and “FD” mounts and each one was just as “professional” as the next.…IMAGE QUALITY:I did a side-by side comparison of 3 lenses with constant light and a tripod: 1) this EF 70-300 f4-5.6 IS II USM, 2) EF 70-200 f2.8 L IS II USM, and 3) the brand new EF 100-400 f4-5.6 L IS II USM. I was really impressed with the IQ of the images from this lens and as they compared with the images of the other two.… - at 100% the photo IQ was nearly indistinguishable but on all photos at all apertures (f4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16) the photos from this 70-300 were just slightly darker.- photos were sharp, well balanced, with no noticeable aberrations or distortions and good color rendition.- at 200%, the photos showed up some minor loss of definition ....NEW IS WORKS GREAT:I handheld several shots with a 5D III and this lens including at f5.6, 1/60 at 300mm and then took the same photo on a tripod with a remote. No difference in sharpness. Very impressed.…BENEFITS AS A TRAVEL LENS:I bought this as a travel lens since the others were just too big and heavy. It’s half the weight and size of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM and EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lenses I have. This lens will easily fit in a “photographer’s vest” pocket and not look like you’re carrying a large weapon, or tip you over to one side. Obviously, it will free up more space in your camera bag, and be lighter for those persnickety airline (especially European) carry-on baggage weight restrictions.…Will I take this on a safari? Maybe not, as I’ll probably want my faster 2.8 telephoto or the longer reach of the superb 100-400 lens. But on a trip where I’m walking around, or having to go through airports, take trains and busses, etc., and where weight and size is very important, the lighter weight and smaller size is important. Or, if you don’t have a good zoom and your budget is creaking under the financial weight of the aforementioned alternatives, this lens will be a great choice - and not a “compromise lens” by any means. …CONS: mostly in accessories. a) MOST IMPORTANT: Only in the manual, and buried in the 3rd line of sub-notes on page ENG-22 does it say “EXTENDERS CANNOT BE USED WITH THIS LENS.” Nowhere on the website does it say that you can’t use an extender! So, this becomes a bit of a negative as a travel lens if you buy it, as I did, expecting to have the option of making it a 70-420mm lens. Canon- update your description!b) No lens hood. You have to order separately. Adds to the cost of the lens.c) Very minor but no case or even a slip cover.d) The 67mm lens means it won’t share filters with most of your other lenses in your bag; also adds to cost of ownership.…CONCLUSION: Fantastic quality lens, delivers sharp images with good color balance, and since it’s brand new, has all the latest design improvements. It looks and feels solid, has cool new features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not bad!Not a bad lens. The auto focus, as always with Canon cameras and lenses, functions perfectly. Images are nice and sharp even through this lens not being image stabilized. I almost thought that due to its size I could use this lens while hand-holding the camera but I was wrong. Definitely use this lens on a tripod or monopod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for the Buck!!I bought this lens almost a year ago .. It's built solid (even though it's plastic has a good feel, and takes amazing photo's. The auto focusing speed of the lens is truly amazing! It focuses almost as fast as your eyes! Very smooth when shooting video. I've compared the pictures to those taken with my 70-200 f/4 L IS, which in my opinion is one of the sharpest lenes out there .. and it holds it's own! Very little chromatic aberration vibrant colors and very sharp. The LCD screen provides useful information, but I don't use it much. I've never used the 100-400 L IS II and I wouldn't expect this lens to be of that caliber. It's not weather sealed and made of metal like the L lenses .. but I don't shoot in extreme weather anyway so that doesn't matter. It's a consumer lens, not a pro lens!! What you have here is a very good lens, that's not heavy, takes beautiful pictures, all at a great price point. I'm not a pro or anything .. but I think this lens is a steal at this price ... well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens at a reasonable priceThis is the best lens I've ever owned. OK, so I don't own the 100-400, but little brother here is only a quarter of the price. It benefits from the latest IS and AF technology, and the optics are superb. I wouldn't even consider any of the other Canon 300 zooms, not even the L, and the low-end 75-300 lacks IS. For me, this replaces the EF-S 55-250, which is also an excellent lens, but the 70-300 has better optics, IS, AF, and a little more reach. I use it on a APS-C camera, so I don't know how it does in the corners on a full-frame detector, but on the crop detector it is excellent, very sharp, very little distortion, and very low aberration. It is reasonably compact and light weight, which makes it great for hiking/birding/wildlife/etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent reasonably priced lensI purchased this lens to replace an aging EF 70-300mm f 4-5.6 IS USM which had served me well but was beginning to search for focus and had become a bit noisy. My photography field is nature which requires quick, sharp focus. The EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM is a more than adequate replacement. It is lighter and more compact than my old lens, the focus is quick, photos are sharp with excellent color regardless of the lighting. I have a wide selection of Canon lenses including three of the "L" series and with both extenders. The EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM is almost always mounted on the camera that I carry with me at all times while I am outdoors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad luck or a QC problem??I bought my first lens a week ago and it came defective. The IS sounded like marbels in side the lens and there was a white mark or flaw on the inside second lens down. I sent it back and received a replacement yesterday. The replacement also had the flaw on the lens. I am waiting for a return label to send the second lens back to Canon. I am giving up on this lens and I ordered a EF 70-200mm 4L. I guess my question is were was QC when the lens was made? For me to get two lenses with the same flaw it got me thinking how many more lenses are out there?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Average at best. This lens is fine for close ups on subjects less than 100 feet away. I have a cheaper nikon D3400 with a 75-300mm that takes way better closeups. I like taking photos of airplanes. This lens is useless for that purpose. I took the pics below with a nikon d3400 the kit with two lenses cost less than the Canon lens cost. So you could get a body and two lenses for the price of this lens. The last three pics are with my Canon 5D Mark iv. Each pic is labeled which lens. The photos speak for themselves. I have gotten better closeups with the 24-105mm lens that came with the 5D.
