Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the sharpest knife in the drawerI purchased this to replace the Canon Powershot A95 that worked great until it didn't. I loved the moveable screen and purchased the G5X because it has a moveable screen. After spending too much time 'setting' up the G5X, I was never able to use the WiFi feature. I'm not sure it is 'operator' lack of experience because the directions are not very user friendly. The camera did not come with a cable to connect to a computer. I have a universal cable from my iPad keyboard and have been using that to transfer my pictures. They transfer fine but if I'm going to have to do things the 'old-fashioned' way, it woulda been nice to have had a cable included with the kit. Oh, speaking of not getting parts, it also did not come with a handy dandy wrist strap. It did come with a nice neck strap that I will never use though. Glad I had not recycled the A95 as I was able to use that strap.I’m not sure what the designer/engineer(s were thinking when they decided to put the controls so close to the edge of the camera on the right side. While holding the camera (like I learned in grammar school), my hand presses the menu button causing the menu to pop up on the screen while trying to take pictures. This is annoying. The dials are too close together, too small and hard to see. This camera is definitely poorly designed. On top of all that, I have yet to figure out how to use the video feature. Again, it must be operator lack of experience. Thing about that is, I’m pretty experienced with technology. I was able to figure out how to use the Rebel XSI after using an AE-1 Program Canon for years. The battery does not hold power very long either. If you find yourself with the G5X and take lots of pictures, make sure you have a back-up charged and ready to go.The learning curve is too great for this pho-tog. Unfortunately the store did not have a model on the floor for me to play with beforehand. However, I assumed (never assume) it wouldn’t be that hard to use since it favored the A95. I’m disappointed that I cannot return it to the store (14 day return policy). I will give it one more college try. If we can’t become friends I’ll put it on eBay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miniaturized DSLRI was looking for a high quality grab & go camera for times when I didn't want to take along my 5D. I originally bought the M3 Mirrorless, but couldn't get comfortable with it for a number of reasons, so it was returned. I purchased the G5X mainly because i just feel more comfortable looking through a Viewfinder. I've shot for about two weeks with the G5X and love this little GEM. It's basically a miniaturized 5D with a fixed, telescoping lens (24-70 35mm equivalent. It's a perfect daily bring along. Not small enough to slip into a pant pocket, but an easy carry. Excellent ease of use, terrific image quality, just what I needed for a grab & go !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No underwater housing!I'm disappointed Canon hasn't seen fit to support the G5X with an underwater housing. Ikelite's housing is clunky as usual and no one else seems to be interested in supporting this camera with a housing. Too bad because this is a great all around travel camera with ideal features for both above and below water. Much better choice then the G7X.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Canon P&S yet! This is my fourth Canon Powershot. I like the size and weight, touch screen, and viewfinder. This camera is a combination of all the others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Potential to be great. On a recent two week trip to Italy I took my G5x and G16. I took 140 shots. Half with the G5 and half with the G16. I'm sad to say the G16 results were far superior to the G5. I used the same settings on both but the G5 prints were not as sharp. I will a loose a lot of money but I'm trading in. Too late to return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Compact CameraAfter a great deal of research we chose the PowerShot G5 X to document our (maybe once in a lifetime two week trip to Europe. That trip is long past now, and we are still ecstatic about our choice! And we are still happy to own this camera, using it almost daily to document our life.We are previously part-time pro photographers, shooting weddings, debuts, portraits, etc. We have camera bags full of Canon bodies, lenses and accessories. But for this trip we decided to lighten the load and find a compact camera that would take great shots under a wide range of conditions. One that wouldn't break the bank, would not need a sack of accessories, but would nearly fit in a pocket. Our European vacation was breathtaking, aided in part by this camera and all it was able to do for us. We have read some of the negative reviews and cannot figure out the fuss. We barely skimmed through the instruction book, yet still was able to photograph and video to our hearts desire. We took extra batteries and chargers, yet never once had the need for one in an entire day. And this is the single best low-light camera we have ever owned - and, believe me, we have been devastated by several other compact cameras in low light. We shot over 2,000 images on our trip, all of which were great. But through strict editing parameters we were able to narrow the field to about 1,000 photos for our online album documenting our trip. These included shots by an amatuer, of our wedding renewal, in which I simply handed off the camera and asked that they just shoot away. This occured is an ancient historic church with inadequate lighting. All I can say is, "Thank you Canon, and the G5X."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where is the filter adapter accessory? With “bulb” setting the G5X is potentially capable of “fluid motion” photography using ND filters and 2-4 minute exposures on a tripod, which the G16 is not able to do. However, unlike the G16, the G5X offers no filter adapter for the necessary ND filters, thus negating potential utility of the “bulb” setting for fine photography. This is stupid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from almost perfectI waited for this to come out since g12 released. This is it :D The only drawback might be the lack of filters support, but this was fixed by lensmate.com. They are making an adapter that lets you fit 52mm filters. Sweet :D Go buy it, you wont regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No microphone jack for recording video!i like it how light it is, but discovered it does not have a micorphone jack. So there is no point owning this camera, I will return it today. My entire goal was to get a flip screen camera for youtube videos, and the guy at bestbuy showed me this one, I am happy with my sony Alpha 7 R, which is a much better camera, but it does not have a flip screen.. so I thought I try this one. Shame though, cause I like how light it is and easy to manipulate.
