Know your gear

The Cisco 5760 Wireless Controller is an industry-leading platform designed for 802.11ac networks with maximum performance and services at scale, combined with high availability for mission-critical wireless networks. Through the Unified Access Data Plane (UADP) application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), it delivers wire-speed performance with services such as advanced quality of service (QoS), flexible NetFlow v9, and downloadable ACLs.

The 5760 Wireless Controller can operate in both converged access mode and centralized mode. Converged access mode provides hierarchical network design that distributes the wireless data plane at the access layer on Cisco Catalyst switches for maximum performance and scale. Converged access mode provides maximum resiliency by constraining outages to smaller failure domains. Additionally, converged access mode delivers high availability with access point stateful failover (access point SSO), making sure SSIDs are highly available and have minimal effect on wireless client

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nullRecently purchased a 5760 controller and first impressions mean a lot. Whilst the controller is pretty feature rich and easy to navigate as it is in its infancy it currently is still pretty buggy. This is no reason not to buy one though. The units themselves are extremely powerful and can be stacked for scalability. A good management platform and a very user friendly web GUI if you prefer not to get dirty in the CLi. Particularly happy with the 10GE SFP interface support meaning we have a huge amount of bandwidth available to our WLAN. There are reports that Cisco are looking to write a final upgrade code to their older generation controllers and a minor code upgrade to these new next gen controllers which will bring both generations to a similar platform, increasing stability. We have had our two (stacked) controllers in place for around 7 months now and have only experienced very minor issues. Looking forward to future releases from Cisco but I would still highly recommend this controller. Recently purchased a 5760 controller and first impressions mean a lot.
