My laptop came with a 4GB card and DID HAVE any extra slot for an additional 4GB card. HOWEVER, Dell's Technical Division said my particular laptop had only ONE memory slot and therefore needed to purchase a 8GB memory card...THEY WERE WRONG. In this case the Sales Department was correct and the Technical Department was wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wrong SIMM from Dell web site. I bought my wife an Optiplex 3060 with 8 Mb of RAM and Windows 10 Pro. The RAM was insufficient and I went through the Dell web site to purchase 8 Mb of additional RAM. The SIMM was incorrect and would not physically fit. It took 3 go-arounds with India to get the RAM returned and credited back to the credit card. I went to a local computer store, who were able to duplicate the SIMM in 3 days. Please note that the Dell web site, when given the Service Tag of the computer, properly said what the SIMM withing the computer, but gave the wrong SKU when asked for an additional SIMM. The SIMM purchased and returned was not physically correct for the computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lousy mechanical design Product may work. Don’t know. The Dell instructions for replacing old memory were for a different design. And the instructions that may have worked with the horrible mechanical design of the computer were stymied by a stripped screw holding the cd drive in place. From the factory. To replace memory required removing all screws in base, removing keyboard and removing cd drive before removing entire bottom of computer. Mechanical designer needed adult supervision.

After doing all the usual dumping of unnecessary software, optimization, etc., it still went into a nose dive. I contacted Dell for the needed memory upgrade, installed it and it runs almost like new. Customer support was great in assuring I got the right modules and in a timely manor. Good job folks!

Would have liked it even more if memory was upgradable to 8G instead of the 4 it comes with. Power button on the bottom edge of right side..poor location, every time I pick up laptop to carry turns off computer. I positively hate windows 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have done it a long time ago Went from 4 GB to 16 GB. Fit into my Inspiron 15 5558 beautifully and immediately improved speeds. No reconfigurations. Plug the chips in and power it up. 4GB was too small for Windows 10 after a few years of OS updates. The processor was always waiting for the memory to be swapped to the HD. Between bumping the memory and changing to a SSD this machine has a new lease on life. The SSD was an even bigger speed increase and incredibly easy too! Now the processor is hitting 100% and the cooling fan is coming on.

YouTube videos imply the battery, keyboard, CD/DVD drive and back cover have to be removed for this. Not sure I would have purchased had I know how involved/risky this is to do for the average owner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8GB SODIMM - great value I bought my Dell Inspiron 3455 with 4GB of memory. But just starting Windows 10 took 70% and starting Chrome took just about everything else. The system was constantly swapping and thrashing. And slooooow. I finally decided to order another 4GB from Dell, but all they had available were 8GB chips. So that's what I got. I kept the original 4GB chip and added the 8GB chip for a total of 12GB. Now I can open all the apps I need and memory usage is around 50%. What a great performance boost. No more swapping and thrashing - yay!

Apparently there isn't a specific video or manual for the 3552 model I have and your colleagues were at a loss to help with a piece of metal which became detached as I opened the base. I sent them a picture of the mystery piece to no avail. We reassembled the laptop w/o the piece and now the CD doesn't work. I am waiting for additional advice from them.
