Rated 5 out of 5 by from If the battery dies, you're SOL.... Battery died and this website says this battery is "no longer available". Why not? It looks very similar to the others, but this *particular one* is no longer available. If the battery is dead, you cannot use the labeler. The whole thing is dead. I should, at the very least, be able to buy another battery. So, now I have to buy a whole new labeler because the battery is gone? Not happy at all. Why can't the batteries be interchangeable? Why make them each so different? Planned obsolescence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery life is Bad This is my second one. The battery died just over a year on both (warranty period is 1 yr and need to purchase a new battery for just about the cost of a entire new unit. While the labeler is great. Once of the best I have seen and I love using it. /so easy and simple, be prepare to purchase a new battery in a year. The unit is connect to a usb which is a power source and has a rechargeable battery, but once it fails while not work. Both units battery failed in just over a year. Same as other reviewers. I would give this 10 stars if it charged or worked with just the USB or if the battery did cost so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I liked it, now I need to replace the battery... I ordered the LabelManger PnP in February 2015 along with labels, but didn't use the unit until September 2015 when I discovered that the labels that I purchased were not for this unit. Beware that not everything that says "D1" is for this label maker. Although that's what is stamped inside of the machine, that is not the model number. Look for LabelManager PnP labels. On to the labels... it took several attempts to figure out how to print from an Excel spreadsheet, but I finally nailed it down. I love not having to manually enter each label, but I was not expecting it to be so complicated. I couldn't explain the process to someone else if I tried. Oh, and one thing I haven't figured out is printing multiple times from the same file. If you are in Import Data and Print, once you hit print, you have to go into Import Data and Print again if there are other labels that you needed to print on a different color tape, for example. The Import window closes and you have to start again. And, then there's the battery... In August 2016, my unit stopped working. I tried a new USB cord and a new USB port. Then, I read the reviews and started to hunt for a battery. The rechargeable battery is listed at approximately 50-60% of the cost of the printer. In retrospect, it was not the wisest label printer choice I could have made. Now to decide if I should buy a new label maker or buy a battery. Dymo, is there a way to make the battery last longer than 1 year?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery is a problem This is a great product as a labeller that you can use on your computer. The only drawback is when your rechargeable battery dies, you are better off buying a new printer. Difficult and expensive to find a replacement battery

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the idea, don't like the label The LabelManager PnP works just fine. I only wish that the D1 label was of a higher quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dymo plug and play Battery dead at 2 years. The unit is constantly plugged into the computer in my office. Why is there a need for battery in the first place? The battery is apparently dead now and despite being connected to power source via USB, the unit is unusable. I am not going to buy a new battery at nearly the cost of the whole unit, and it will go into trash unfortunately. It was nice while it lasted. I would have hoped it would last longer. Was used very sparingly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor battery design The printer doesn't work without battery. Despite the fact that it's connected to the PC USB port and it's powered on. If the battery dies, you'll have to spend more than 50% of the total costs to buy a new battery. A no-go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Little Label Machine, but! You have limited this product because it can't use 3/4" D1 (45803) or larger. Your competitor who makes the P-touch system can use 6mm to 36mm label tape on their label machine. Give it some though about redesigning it to hold 3/4" tape. Then I'll recommend it to all my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY - BATTERY ISSUE I have barely used this device but the expensive proprietary battery is dead. Also the device intermittently shows up and then disappears, probably battery related again. Nice overall concept, really poor, poor engineering. I will never buy another product from this company it's a waste of money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible product due to battery design I had this label maker for about a year when the battery went bad. As others have mentioned once the battery fails you are out of luck unless you want to pay an unreasonable amount for a new battery. Even if you follow the battery care instructions it will fail in too short of a time. Should have been designed to accept disposable batteries or an alternate plug in power source. Bad enough that the labels cost so much but now I have to pay for a battery if I want to keep using the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sucks at supporting MacOS Sierra I have tried all the available software versions but none could find my label manager PNP in MacOs Sierra. The Light version on the printer can, but I cannot enter enter any text more in the program. So I can only print empty labels! Expensive paper weight now....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This does NOT work with all Macs :( I purchased this printer as a replacement for another one that went bad after 3 years. This worked just fine with my Mac until I upgraded my OSX software and now it's basically useless. It is not compatible with Mac OS® X v10.8 "OR LATER" as stated on this site. I don't understand why the info on this page hasn't been updated OR why hasn't DYMO updated the driver/software to make it compatible with ALL Macs. :( Don't waste your money if you are a Mac user with an updated OSX system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart machine. Insanely bad battery !! I bought my PnP almost two years ago and have printed 8 cartridges and it just worked perfectly. Now it has not been turned on for 14 days and is completely dead. A new battri costs almost the same as the machine and I know it is a general problem known to dealers. Mine is purchased in Europe, where there is a two-year warranty, but no help from the dealer on the battery part. Beware!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same battery issue Loved this when I first purchased but now... I have purchased 3 of these units over the course of the last couple of years. Originally one for work and one for home. Got a third one after the battery stopped charging-guess I should have read the reviews before buying another. Now I have 3 junk units to dispose of and a whole pile of unused D1 cassettes. Not shelling out $$ to replace a battery at about the same price that I paid for the original unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adding my voice A good product with bad user experience, lousy documentation, and poorly implemented apps. First, the battery should be easy to insert or remove but it is neither. Second, the lite app never successfully printed my test phrase. Only after installing the driver, accidentally discovering the full app, cleaning it, and replacing the cartridge did it print my new test phrase, 'this sucks.' I will not be recommending this product to our reception, facilities, office managers, or dogs on the street.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rechargeable battery dies, rendering unit useless. I've had this LabelManager not even a year, using it a handful of times per month for naming new file folders. I liked its PnP functionality and the basic software perfect for issuing file labels. Today it stopped working and cited "battery not charging" on the software, even though it's supposed to be a rechargeable battery. I've always been mindful of turning off the unit when not in use, so I can't understand how this battery is dead. The cost of a replacement battery is outrageous considering the cost of the unit, why would I invest in a rechargeable battery with such a limited life span, and why isn't the USB plugged into a computer enough to power it? Now I have a useless product without it. I wish I had researched the reviews before purchasing this unit. Not happy, DYMO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a terrible product The software is slow (and terrible). The hardware is slow. It is inexplicably battery powered. When the battery gives up, it costs almost as much as a new unit. DO NOT BUY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed So disappointed. This is my second one, literally wore the first one out, loved it. This one is brand new and the top of the letters doesn’t print. Wrote to the company and their recommendation to hopefully fix the most likely issue-dust- is rather complicated. Expected something that worked out of the box, not requiring owner maintenance before it works. What happened to quality control? In addition what opens is the lite version, I have to hunt for the full version

Rated 5 out of 5 by from terrible design flaw like everyone else that has written a review here, i experienced the same battery failure problem after a little more that a year. I believe this problem is probably widespread and effects every unit of this product. Demo should pull this printer off the market - continuing to see it as-is is in extremely bad faith. ps. i did try to resolve this through their helpline first, but never heard back from them... so, yeah.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes labeling to the next level I've used several labelers in the past and was never quite satisfied. I'll be using this one for a long time. Fortunately, I do nearly all my labeling at my desk, so the lack of portability of this model is a drawback. That said, it requires no power source other than the USB cable. So it is lighter weight than battery-operated models. If you wanted to put it in your laptop bag, it is compact and light weight, but comes at the price of requiring a computer to use it. As a labeler, it is awesome. It prints faster than any other model I've used. I can use any font on my computer and can preview the label on-screen. The interface tells me the label length, so I know the label will fit before wasting tape only to find out it doesn't. A very promising but tricky feature is the ability to import images. It's easy to use, but hard to make useable. It is extremely low resolution, so photos are almost useless. (They look like a photo from a newspaper that's been xeroxed, then sent through a fax machine). The secret to making this feature useful is to select very simple, high-contrast images. Images that look like the dingbat characters available on most computers work well; things like hearts, diamonds, arrows, or bullet-point characters. Since you can use these special characters easily, try them first before importing an image that may not print well. The ability to use special characters is one way I've used to reduce the amount of tape I use. Combined with color-coding tape colors, special symbols are a highly recognizable shorthand for locating file folders that saves money too. Speaking of tape, this labeler uses the D1 line of tapes. While not stellar quality as a line, the High Performance (flexible and permanent) types of tape are excellent. The flexible tape is fantastic for labeling computer cables. The permanent tape does not (so far) suffer from the coming loose after a few months on some surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product - seems to have some issues although Works out of the box - as promised - with the built in Mac software. However, the larger app from the Dymo website, with the newest software, does not work well with my Office 2011 and newest MacOS Yosemite: I can write in Word - but nothing comes out in the labels. The formatting in Word is very hard to understand, as the user can't se how it will look on the labels. I was hoping for a smooth integration from e.g. Word, but the most reliable thing seems to be to use the installed "Light" software that works as expected and seems to be fine for simple labels, which is what I uses most. I have removed the Demo printer software from the computer, as it seems to collide with the build in software (on the Dymo unit itself). Then things works fine. Another curious thing that I did not know before I got the unit, is that there seems to be a weak link in the functioning of the product: The quite expensive battery needs to work always, otherwise it can't print. I don't understand the technical stuff of why there is a need for a expensive - and not very ecological - battery - but this should be clearly marked on the product description and package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Unhappy Just arrived and was ready to start labeling and having multiple print problems as well as winding problems with the included cartridge. It is not working properly out of the box. Software installed on my Mac with no issues. However, when I print on a white label it doesn't print properly. Letters are missing or the word looks weird. Additionally, the cartridge will not rewind per the included instructions (included cartridge with the purchase will not rewind. I have been through about 3 to 4 feet of tape with no change. Pretty unhappy with this unit. It looks cool and installs easily but the labels are unsatisfactory as they come out of the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've never encountered software this bad Dymo makes the saddest excuse for software I've ever encountered in my life. And this is supposed to be used by professionals? 9 out of 10 times it doesn't recognize my LabelManager; it crashes randomly; tells me there's no updates, while there clearly are newer versions available on the Dymo website (which doesn't have valid SSL certificates; it pollutes my documents folder with out some useless folders; it wants to be a separate address book manager (how about using system api's?) I recommend you guys hire actual programmers to create your software or just outsource it to a company who hire actual programmers. I hope you guys are ashamed of yourselves. Looking for an alternative to Dymo so I never have to pollute my computer with crapware like this ever again. I haven't encountered the battery issues other people have had, but that'll probably just be a matter of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad battery design ruins what would be five star As far as features and use? Those are great. The stupid battery design on this makes it obsolete in less than two years. On Amazon, I can buy an entire unit for the price of the battery pack. That is just stupid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery problems I bought this a couple of years ago. It's a great little label printer until the battery dies, and it will die. Then nothing works. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Labels do stay on We have used a few different cartridges and different label sizes and it seems there is a 50/50 chance that the labels do not stick firmly on the manila or plastic folders we use. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Battery The unit worked well initially and I was very happy with it. The poor rating is due to battery issues. After 2 years, 9 months of ownership the battery would not take a charge, rendering the unit worthless. The battery failure was with light usage. I only used the LabelManager PnP a few times. I was only on my second label cassette, the cassette that came with the unit and then a 23' roll, when the battery failed. Based on the extent of posted reviews that cite battery issues, it appears that the battery is the Achilles heel of the LabelManager PnP. Purchasing a new battery is prohibitively expensive to compared the cost of the LabelManager PnP. Dymo needs to provide a high quality battery or replace the battery with a plug for a 7.5VDC adapter. I plan to modify my LabelManager PnP to power it from an external 7.5VDC adapter

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't work with Mac I've had this labeler for about 5 months. The software it comes with doesn't work. You have to download a new driver. After fussing with it for awhile I got it to work. Then I put it away for several weeks. When I tried to use it again. It no longer worked. I call customer service. They told me to download a particular driver (now I have three). It finally started working again. Just pulled it out again after a couple of months. Software is not longer working. I can print black labels but can't type anything on the label. I even tried downloading new software. Still nothing. The company doesn't seem to put many resources into supporting Mac. Time to move on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer when it works, but... THE BAD: The software occasionally can't find the printer, which is rather annoying, but I regard this as more a Mac-related problem than a Dymo-related problem. The battery setup. The printer probably requires more power to operate than a USB port can deliver, hence the need for a battery to provide the extra current required. I would not think that this should be a difficult engineering problem to solve, but Dymo seems to have missed a bit. The printer charges the 7.4V battery with 8.4V, so leaving it charging for a long time can result in the battery having too high a voltage for the printer to work. This is what happened to my first battery. Perhaps a future option of having a DC input? I know that more wires sort of kills the clean look of the thing, but reliability would be greatly improved. Or if Marketing says that another wire is a nonstarter, then how about using an off-the-shelf 7.4V Li-ion battery? THE GOOD: Using a computer as the input interface is clever and the plug-and-play worked quite well for me, even on my Mac (which has mixed reviews here and elsewhere). The cutting mechanism does cut close to the print head (probably about as close as is possible) so there is less wasted material per label. Very economical. Customer service. After I ended up overcharging the first battery, Dymo sent me a replacement free of charge. I was impressed. OVERALL: Apart from the charging issues with the (also) proprietary battery case, I have had no trouble with this printer for about 2.5 years - even with very infrequent use. In the end, I sorted out my battery charging problem by soldering a DC pigtail to the battery terminals in the printer and bought a 7.4V Li-ion battery charger (about $15 on Amazon). Now I can run the printer off DC or the battery, and have had no problems at all for about a year. So I have to rate this only average because of the battery quirks. Use a standard battery and I'd say better than average, add a DC input as well and I'd say it was an excellent product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inferior product Bought this unit over a year ago and now it will not turn on. After reading many reviews, it most likely is the battery. A very disappointing and expensive mistake (unit itself was $129.99) since we ordered extra labels and will not be using them now as well. Went against my better judgement to order this unit for my school library but figured I had had such good luck with the 450 Twin Turbo in another library that it was worth trusting the name. Wrong!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement batteries MIA I appreciate DYMO's honesty in allowing poor reviews. I was happy to receive this label maker used. But now I am searching high and low for a battery pack. Not only is it pretty expensive at $26. but it is out of stock. And it is not available anywhere else; believe me, I have looked. DYMO, if you're listening, I would recommend making this battery optional instead of dependent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not work well with Macs! Item does not work well with Macs - downloaded all new software from DYMO website and still nothing. Software will not recognize printer and just queues print jobs. Read several other reviews online about a possible fix (unplug and let it sit for 5 mins, then try again) but it didn't work for me after several attempts. Apparently there is a design-flaw with the plugin and it is extremely finicky. I don't have time to deal with a device that is that troublesome. Returned this one and trying another handheld product that does not need a computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I love this label maker. Purchased for our office, and we use it all the time! Prints labels perfectly every time. We love it so much, we now want to purchase a second one for our sister office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't make it work As others have reported, I can't get it to work right out to the box. The software of the mac was super easy to use but it has a winding problem with the included tape and the letters are supersized and don't fit on the included tape

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will not recognize itself as a printer This worked great until I got my Mac upgraded. Now when I open v8 I get a notification that needs to run Add Network Printer Utility, and then it doesn't detect it. Can't use it at all anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wireless printer no accessible from mobile app. What's the point of a portable battery powered networkable printer if I have to take my computer with me to use it? Why have a mobile application that cannot access all of your networkable printers? There are plenty of mobile applications for printing on wireless and wired network printers out there... Maybe try doing what everyone else is doing?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SHOOTING BLANKS Right out of the box and all I'm getting are blank labels. There is not much to get wrong with the plug and play. The cartridge goes in only one way. I'm typing my name in on the DYMO program then PRINT. I have lots of blank adhesive labels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mac user? look elsewhere. Lablemaker lite, the included software will not let you type in the app. click in the box on the table all day long, hit a button on the keyboard and Ding! Ding! Ding! just the system error tone with no text. Oh but wait they have the full version available for download... don't get your hopes up. it can't find my brand new labelmanager p2p that is connected to the USB port. the same one the lite version finds fine. id love to print labels, but will not reboot to windows just for that. Fix your software or remove Macs from your list of supported machines Dymo! quit wasting our time and money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from About batteryproblem The battery in my LabelManager worked for about 2 years. Instead of buying a new very expensive original replacement battery i just bought a standard rechargable 9V battery (6LR61, 6LF22 or PP3). The battery plus side should be far inside in the LabelManager (look at the original battery where plus and minus are). The LabelManager wount break if you accedenty mount the battery the wrong way, I have tested... 20 mm foam rubber will hold the new battery in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery doesn't hold charge I bought this in May 2017. Used very little. Been plugged in most of that time. I unplugged it overnight and the next day the battery was dead and it was disconnected from the router. It's September, 2017 and the battery doesn't work. Seems I should be sent a replacement battery, though I'm concerned that without the battery working, it won't even work if connected by USB. That's a big weakness. This is a far cry from my excellent DYMO 4XL which works perfectly. The least someone could do is send me a battery to try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesnt work on my laptop as promised Just bought this plug and play label maker and arrived yesterday. Suppose to just plug it in and it should work on your pc. Not happening . Ive spent all day yesterday and today trying to get it to appear on my new laptop. Ive spoken with the geek squad at best buy and HP computer support. No one can assist with getting this to load on my laptop. Pretty much have wasted 2 days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, easy use, came with dead battery This device is great for what it does, but when I received it, the battery, manufactured 18 months earlier, was already at end of life, resulting in aborted prints and wasted label stock. Mine was within warranty, and I've requested a replacement battery. If your is out of warranty, and you're a little bit handy, you can open the battery module and replace the cells with these for $8 -- much better than the $25 Dymo demands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only works with labels 6mm, 9mm and 12mm I've only just purchased the unit and so far it is working fine. The big issue is that the Dyno website is misleading. I purchased the PNP printer and 19mm (3/4" labels because on the US web page these are listed as an accessory (including the 1" labels). On the Dyno global web site it lists only compatible labels (which I didn't see until a few minutes ago). Unfortunately because I'm out of the US the cost of returning it is worth more than the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Find something else The product does not last; battery does not retain its charge. I have reinstalled the software MANY times. It was nice in the beginning but I expected better. The concept of a battery operated product that is supposed to be USB powered doesn't make sense to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and easy. The labelprinter is exactly doeing what was promised. I just hoped I could make a link to the date and time, so I could print a label with the exact date and time at arrival of a product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Mac Friendly - 4.5 Stars I do a lot of research before I make most purchases, especially when I need them to work well with my Mac. This labeler was the perfect fit because: • it works beautifully with my Mac • does not require a power source • is lightweight, fast and quiet • variety of label material • able to use my favorite fonts I would like to see the ability to save different label settings in a future software update. Very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product, Bad Battery Design I purchased this and in less than 1 year the "rechargeable battery" went dead and will not charge even while plugged into a powered USB port. Even tried a new USB cable and multiple computers to attempt to correct this problem. CHAT with tech support and the only option they gave me was I have to purchase a new battery from them at more than $25 plus shipping. AA batteries would be cheaper, but I do not have that option available to me. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. After the tech support I received you may also want to consider another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not work Just got this from Amazon, followed the instructions by plugging it in. Does not install. Tried this on three different computers, two were windows 7 and one Vista. Does not leave a icon on desktop and shows an error code that says "Grandfather filter config. manager error 13. I did get it to work on one computer by downloading from Dymo site the software but still does not give me a icon. And it is very dfficult pealing the tape. Have to use tweezers. Spent over four hours on this, Should have bought a brothers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waste of money Not sure which is worst between the software and the hardware. It's a race to the bottom for sure. I've had this for about over a year and its battery is dead which makes this product useless. The software is ridiculously disappointing.
