For those businesses that need to mirror data over long distances, or reduce network costs. MirrorView/A is the right choice. The key to MirrorView/A's ability to reduce bandwidth requirements and minimize data exposure lies in its Delta Set architecture. Based on the innovative design of the industry-leading SRDF /Asynchronous solution for the Symmetrix 1 DMX Series. MirrorView/A Delta Sets are disk-resident collections of writes that have occurred within a Specific period of time.

In addition to providing consistent restartable images at the target site, Delta Sets provide the important benefit of reducing the bandwidth needed between sites-which can be the most prohibitive component of a distance replication solution. Delta Sets do this in two ways. The first is through the concept of locality-of-reference. With traditional asynchronous solutions, every write that comes in must be time-stamped/sequenced and sent to the remote side- every write is treated as a discrete write and must be moved over the communication link. Delta Sets however, allow data in the set to be re-written and only sends the final set of updates to the remote site.

Another bandwidth savings provided by MirrorView/A is the ability to size your communication links to your average write workload rather than your peak workload. Typically, you would size traditional asynchronous Solutions to the peak bandwidth required during the course of a day. That peak might only occur for a brief period while batch updates are occurring or some other period of time when processing activity is high. Because Delta Sets are collecting the new writes on disk while experiencing locality-of-reference benefits MirrorView/A is able to ride through periods of increased write activity more efficiently.
