After printing about 50 pages, the printer started reading a cartridge error on the black cartridge and I had to switch to only using the color cartridge. Not sure if it was an issue with the cartridge or simply a result of using an elderly printer. Would purchase again if my printer continues to function.

It is already June 2019. I would have expected a newer cartridge from HP that would have had as date farther in the future. It works fine for now...but I wonder how long it will work into the future. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink doesn't go the distance... The 901 black ink cartridge has a very short life. The cartridge in my previous HP printer printed many more pages. In the 8 months I have had this printer I have had to replace the black cartridge 4 times. The old printer cartridge lasted 6 or more months and the usage has not changed that drastically! It is very disappointing because I really like the printer/scanner/fax with the ability to connect to it wirelessly with my new HP Pavillion laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think you sent me used ink I waited 7 days for the ink. When it arrived, I opened the brand new package (good thing I bought TWO), installed the cartridge. Printed 8 pages and it said it was out of black ink. I turned the printer off, turned it back on, it didn't print. I installed the second cartridge and it has worked fine. But, since I didn't purchase at a store, kinda tough to return the product. All in all, waste of money.

I do not have an exact count on # of printed but know I have used almost 3 pks of 500 sheets and only 2 cartridges. Per the 901XL u get "3.5 more pages" and the cost is only twice that of the 901. I also use economy printing option. (not sure if this is really an ink saver) I have been very pleased with the HP Officejet (printer/copier/fax) especially with quantity of printed sheets after reading reviews. I normally don't give reviews but hope this helps someone save $$s . Sounds as if they are printing "gold" instead of black!!!!!!!

Don't even used to print presentations, just word documents. Can not afford spending $18.00 every two-three weeks. Very frustrating!!!Will HP buy back the printer?

It will take a while to determine if this rather expensive cartridge stands the test of time. The printer that requires this cartridge-type is somewhat of a disappointment.

We had been so happy with the ink and print quality that I did not think twice buying a new printer. Little did I know that I was actually buying them not a present, but a punishment. My parents barely print 2 pages a week, but have to get a new cartridge every few weeks. The cost is very high and the cartridges are tiny. I am going to try store brand ink and if that cannot get us better results then the printer is getting donated to charity. Seriously thinking twice about ever purchasing another HP product. I am very disappointed after being a promoter of HP for a decade.

I purchased 2 black ink cartridges on the 12th and already I am half way through the last of the 2 and today is the 30th. The ink does not last long. My other HP printer ink lastest about 6 weeks, twice as long as this printer ink.

No warning Ink just stops. I have had to replace my HP all in one faxes every couple of years. These are used for home not business and still a problem. They always goes after the warranty. Each fax machine ended up with lines that go thru the middle of the print. Doesn't print the text in the middle. I'm on my way to buy a new non-HP fax. I have been a HP customer i.e. computers, camera, printers, fax, etc. for years but as I compare other products HP faxes and ink no comparison. Sorry HP - good bye!

I can buy the re-manufactured ones and they last just as long. Also I was mislead by the ad on the web site. I was under the impression they would arrive the day after I ordered them. Therefore, I had to run up to Wal Mart and buy one. I will probably not order from this site again. It is the same cost to buy them at Wal Mart and I can get them the same day. Thank you.

I do a lot of printing every morning of my class notes for college and I am only on my second black cartridge, I bought the printer in September! I still am using the same color cartridge!

All my printing is in text and not very much on a page, so I am not very satisfied. I am also not happy about the price fixing as it costs the same no matter where you buy it.

I did not get 200 copies (collectively) with the three cardridges already used. I bought my first computer in 2005. I have always exclusively purchased and used HP products. I have just recently noticed the problem with the ink jet cartdriges. What's Up With That

The printer keeps displaying, "tri-color cartridge malfunction", seek troubleshooter. I have tried everything except a new inker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't Last Long I love my HP OfficeJet Printer but the black ink (901 OfficeJet) doesn't last long at all. I print documents for school and that's all I use it for. I would say that I print a normal amount. I still have a pack of printer paper that I got when I purchased the printer, I have about a fourth of that paper left and I've been printing for school since the end of August 2010. I'm just about to be on my third ink cartridge (901 OfficeJet). The print quality is excellent! Unforunately, I'm starting to feel the burn in my wallet. Went on HP's website, OfficeMax, Staples, and Walmart, the ink runs about $15.00 for one cartridge at all of these places. If I would have known what I know now, I'm not too sure if I would have purchased this particular printer (HP OfficeJet J4680 All-in-One).

Like others, I agree that the ink is ridiculously expensive and you do not get half the number of copies what HP says you can expect. I bought another printer for a different home and the first thing I did was price the ink and purchased a printer - not HP - that had compatible cartridges vs. only printer manufacturer cartridges and they cost 65% less!

I have printed approximately 250 pages. It was really frustrating to get part way through a print job and run out of ink. There is no easy way to change cartridges in the middle of a job either. Have had HP printers for years, This one is very disappointing.

Here is a recommendation my friend just gave me last week-change the print settings-open up your printer dialogue box go to the properties , in the print short cut tab select fast/economical printing. He said that he is getting more pages out of each cartrage by doing that . They print really quick too.

I love the printer, if the paper magazine is kept full and the paper perfectly square and tight, every thing works flawlessly. my only problem was, I do not believe the last new 901 ink cartridge gave me 100 sheet before it went dead. No complaints about anything else, the free shipping and quality printing makes up for the lower yield of the ink cartridge, always keep one extra ink cartridge on hand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Satiisfied With Performance I love the J4580 printer but I don't get close to a hundred printed sheets from the standard 901 cartridge, the 901XL cartridge cost to much and I am not sure it is worth the added expense. I am using the printer on the economy setting for most my jobs. The only thing this cartridge has going for it is the free shipping, in my mind, the 901 is just to expensive. I mesured the weight of a brand new 901 cartridge against a empty one and the new one contained .2 .....that's point 2 onces of ink, I don't see how I am going to get close to 200 sheets out of that amount of ink. The next time I am going to check the price of the ink before I buy the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst Purchase Ever Purchased the HP 901Xl expecting it to last 3.5 times longers & was sadly disappointed. It says it prints 700 pages, but is is highly unlikely. I've had other printers from HP, but the HP Officejet 4500 wireless is worthless & uses ink cartridges faster than what is considered normal use. This is probably why the printer is offered at such a reasonable price. If I were you, don't fall for it unless you want to pay huge amounts of money on ink cartridges. Will stay away from HP printers in the future. Not a good value for the money.

THREE MAJOR stores in our area Officeworks and DickSmith did NOT carry replacement cartridges in fact had never heard of them. I am about to put it back in its box and take it back to the point of purchase as the cost of cartridges (if anyone has them) is prohibitively expensive. I will purchase an updated model of my old Brother printer

I went to install it last night and my printer kept coming up with an error message - problem with the cartridge. After following all the recommended steps in the troubleshooting guide to no avail, I finally brought the empty cartridge out of the trash & reinstalled it so I could at least print the documents I had in the queue, albeit in another color. This is the first time I've been unhappy with an order from HP.. I love being able to simply order ink online from you. What an be done to rectify this? Can you send me a replacement cartridge ASAP? OK, I bought a replacement Ink cartridge, not an after market but HP's 901, I did not print more than 30 or 40 pages before it ran out. I am probably better off throwing the printer in the thrash and buying a different brand. This is not the way to build a client base or loyal customer. I am sure an off brand ink cartriidge will contain more ink. There is a reason the cartridge is made of black plastic, so you cannot see how little ink is in it. The name brand attracted me to the printer, I am not sure anymore.

Cartridge longevity used to be HP's strongest suit but now they are no better than their competitors. What a shame! They need to be listening to their customers and not their accountants. Short term thinking like this does nothing but anger a very loyal customer base and make them go away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst Purchase Ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Although the print quality is o.k. for this model, the 901 ink cartridge does not last at all. We have had our printer about 3 weeks and have gone through 3 black in cartridges. I tried printing off about 100 colored pages today for school and one black ink cartridge was not enough!! Pitiful!! I guess I will go back to my dinosaur printer at school. Ink is a little more expensive, but lasts waaaayyyyyy longer! :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inaccurate performance I cannot just trash my Officejet printer since I cannot afford a color laser fax and I don't want to fall for another inkjet garbage, so, I need to buy ink cartridges for now. The last HP 901 ink cartridge I bought lasted less than expected even though the HP assistant kept saying that it had little less than half the ink left. I don't know if it dried out or what, but I had to purchase a new one sooner than I expected. I know that there is a high volume type compatible black cartridge, but still, the one I replaced lasted much less than I expected. Something else: it is quite annoying to have the printer telling me often that either the cartridges are not HP genuine or not recognized after the cartridges have been in it for some time and I have to go all the way to clean up the contacts in order for the printer to work. Therefore, I give this cartridge an overall 3 because it works great out of the box without a doubt, and it's the right cartridge for my printer, but last time I bought it happiness lasted too little. I need to save money to buy a good color laser scanner/fax/printer that doesn't cost me a leg and an arm.

After unplugging & replugging it, lights flash continuosly & did not respond to any button. This was repeated, and results sadly remain hopeless. I am returning the printer.

So far no problems. Using the SmartPrint software/feature that came with my HP all-in-one 4500 wireless printer. It allows me to select only the text I want to print. This is very helpful especially for webpages. It cuts down on ink usage and I can make the print as small or large as I want. If you want to save on ink/toner use the SmartPrint software! Gave it 4 stars and will give it 5 when I see the final results regarding the cartridge's depletion levels.

I called the HP support and she told me to buy a different printer. I replaced the old driver then I could print colored documents but not black and white ones. I thought I would just give it a shot by replacing a HP cartridge before getting rid of the printer. So I bought this cartridge and now the printer started to work like new again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Mess I recently bought a HP910 BLACK. Opening the package was extremely difficult. Removing the orangeplastic cover was a NIGHTMARE! It wold not budge, but finally popped off, spouting evverywhere! I got more ink on myself than was needed for 10 pages! This did not happen the last time-a little hars, but not like this. The cartridge worked fine in the printer, but I did some drastic cleanup on cartridge and myself. Not happy!

This is way short of the 200 approximation they give. I have used Office Depot brand ink in the past and it has far exceeded the 130 this HP cartridge gave me.
