Tray works very well . The downside is that it sticks out about three inches for legal size paper - very poor design - should stick out the back of printer not the front..

A must have
The extra drawer is a must have. This allows me to have letter in one drawer and legal in another and never have to run back and forth to switch paper! And it fits a whole ream of paper! That's great news - fewer times I have to add paper and no partial reams laying around getting the corners creased! You won't be sorry you got this.

Envelope Function
I think it would have been a much better tray if it allowed for envelopes to be printed from it. I was very disappointed to find out that the tray that we had purchased did not have this function.

Accessory Tray Failed To Be Recognized By Printer
Even after much troubleshooting, accessory tray was never recognized by the printer. Returned.
This is the first time that I have ever had a HP accessory tray not work. I did not bother with ordering its replacement.

Do not expect this to be well supported!
Easy to unpack.
Easy to install.
Easy to set up.
Easy to print to legal size.
Easy to copy to legal size.
Unable to scan legal size from printer to computer. You have to go to your computer after loading the ADF or putting your document on the glass. Next you have to find the HP Scan APP that is buried in an HP multifunction APP.
The printer firmware does not allow you to select legal size for scanning when standing at the printer.
This oversight is inexcusable and is why I hsve given this product a 2 star revue.

It Does Not Work.
I had the earlier version of this printer, with this extra tray. It worked fine. This one it does not. The printer does not recognize the tray and does not pull from the tray. So far, it’s just a waste of $200.00

OMG by new best buddy
Just what I needed. It does not stick out in the back as the other 3rd drawers because of it's design.

I PURCHASED THIS MACHINE IN JULY 2019 AND HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED. IT WAS EASY TO SETUP AND HAS ALL THE FEATURES I USE IN MY BUSINESS. I ALSO PURCHASED A LEGAL PAPER TRAY AND THAT WAS EASY TO ATTACH. BEST MACHINE I HAVE USED IN MY SMALL BUSINESS EVER.

All is Right in the World Again
Bought this tray once from another distributor, and it didn't work/ printer wouldn't read it. Returned that one and bought another from HP direct! Connected immediately, && I can now print legal docs without standing over the printer to manually feed it more paper! Totally happy with my purchase!!

Was required for legal size paper printing.
Our organization, the Madeira Historical Society prints nearly all of our printing jobs "in house" and half of our printing work is printed in color, on high quality legal size white paper. The quality of our printing is very important as is being able to print large quantities of our print work. The Pro 500 - sheet Paper Tray meets all of our needs.
