Rated 5 out of 5 by from Messed up usb c port We used the predecessor of the L13 laptop in a product from us (the L390. We used a cheap hub with integrated ethernet, worked like a charm. The Lenovo changed the port and forces you to buy this crappy extension, even though (or because) it worked fine with a 7€ hub. I would even be fine with that, but now the L13 is designed so badly that you can not use the usb c port if this abomination is plugged in.

My laptop keys got spoilt within the first two weeks and it was a very long process trying to talk to someone to tell me the warranty process. Finally the agent told me the repair could be done at Best buy but Best buy said noooo we have to ship your laptop to another service center. The process is taking two weeks plus and here I am with work to do but no laptop. I don't need sorrys Lenovo I just need the issue fixed in a timely manner.

However, the resolution for screen is not high compared with laptop with similar price. And fan is a little bit loud.

The battery, however, is quite poor, and definitely does not last as long as the promised 14 hours as their spec claimed.

For example, I’ve been able to use a RAM-hogging browser while streaming on Discord no problem. Compact, crisp display, and doesn’t overheat easily. Only qualm I have is small: the USB-C charging port can feel flimsy at times, not as “set in” to the laptop as other charging plugs can be, and no magnet to hold it in place in lieu of port depth for physical hold. Ah well. Still an amazing machine for the price!

We love the size and weight and it is also very fast with the 10th gen i7 intel chip. My son will use it for his senior year in high school next year and then throughout college. It is a ThinkPad, so it is quite durable and I know from experience because that is what I use at work everyday. Recommended.

The 14nm 10th gen processor and big solid state drive makes a good fit for running a Linux guest in Vmware Player and general productivity taks. The ugly: It comes with a ton of unnecessary bloatware, but to be fair most of that is Windows 10 and not Lenovo, and it's easy enough to remove it. The bad: It died (bricked, no response to power button) after three weeks, diagnosed as a bad battery by Lenovo customer support. Because it is a relatively new model, the techs at the Lenovo warranty repair depot are unable to handle it (I learned this when I called after they had the machine for six days to ask what the holdup in the promised three-to-five day repair was) it has to be sent off to another group. They're unable to tell me how long the repair will take, but at least two weeks. So bottom line: It's a nice machine, Wait until Lenovo is a bit more up to speed before with the product before you buy it.

It's refreshing to see a company allow you to do basic customizations on a laptop to get exactly what you want and need. The keyboard is nice. The screen is good for business work. The thickness, weight, and battery life work just fine for me. 6-8 hours easy on the web, networking and such. Also has the RAM capability to run some heavier tools like MATLAB. I am a big fan of the built in card reader and the fingerprint reader. This makes my work life a breeze since I can use my personal laptop for remote work. I am very happy so far and can't wait to keep using this machine!

So really no "heavy" use and I haven't heard her complaining about the machine.. If that's anything to gauge by. But I would argue that Zoom and Google classroom with video on (their webcam needs to be on all the time, plus streaming video feed from the Teacher and other students) do take a tool on CPU resources. Older machines I have that were being used were struggling (Dell Latitude 4GB Ram, older processor, Win10; Lenovo Ideapad 4, 2GB Ram Lubuntu). Sturdy Thinkpad quality as to be expected. Not happy with soldered RAM but the 8GB ought to be sufficient for future use (High school projects etc.).

It is great that there is a wide range of ports built in. There is one small issue that I've encountered which is that if the battery is charging and the laptop is not placed on a flat surface such as a desk, it gets too hot. This is likely due to some of the fan vents being on the bottom of the laptop. One time when I was using it and it wasn't on a desk, it even overheated to the point that it shut itself off. Luckily, the battery lasts for a long time and it charges fast so this isn't as big of an issue as it might seem at first. Overall it is a decent product; I just hope that the fan design is reconsidered in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Medicore and incompatible This ThinkPad is mediocre in almost every way except two. -The screen is OK, but contrast ratios and brightness are just adequate. -The "10th generation cpu" is really a Comet Lake Chip which uses 9th generation lithography, 9th generation microcode, and 9th generation graphics. In other words, only Intel marketing think this is a true 10th generation like Ice Lake. Translation: this is one of the slower CPU performances and iGPU graphics are horrible. -Sound is adequte but not class leading -Webcam is adequate but not class leading -battery life is on the low end of adequate -Build quality is adequate with a metal lid and plastic body. The lid is an absolute fingerprint magnet. -No Thunderbolt 3 ports -RAM is no longer upgradeable -Webcam privacy switch is nice, but feels cheap and flimsy -Trackpad is adequate -Bezels at the top and bottom of the screen are large (the bottom bezel is huge) In fact, in only 2 ways is this laptop is better than the rest. The keyboard is really good and the garaged stylus is awesome. That's it. Unfortunately, Lenovo ThinkPads and Microsoft Windows 2004 (May 2020 and August 2020 editions) do not get along, so as of this writing in Nov 2020, the most recent version of Windows installed by Windows update is v1909 from Nov 2019 OVER A YEAR AGO. So if you want a completely mediocre device with outdated processor that has a nice keyboard and garaged stylus but won't get Windows updates, you will probalby enjoy this ThinkPad. For literally everyone else please consider another model.

Only had it a few weeks, but the L13 appears to be the same quality as the other ThinkPads I've owned over the years. I was also worried that the lower cost might mean it was bulky or heavier, but again solid thin laptop. No touch screen, that was the one item I overlooked, but frankly that wasn't a priority for this laptop anyway given it is used in the office on a dock most of the time anyway.

The 3i seems quick enough, but the SSD is definitely worth it, comparing this model with an SSD to my brother who didn't want to pony up for the smaller SSD. The lid is metal, but the bottom is plastic, seems a bit odd, but it gives the lid a nice sturdy feel when you're opening and closing it.

It took me multiple days to convince Lenovo's team to accept their fault and take the return. I don't think I will ever trust Lenovo again. It is almost impossible to make the Lenovo team to understand the pain you are going through.

The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars, is that the widows software doesn't update the battery driver, so you have to uninstall it and restart the computer and the drivers update when it comes back on. Other than that though I love this computer and would recommend anyone to get it.

Generally very quiet, maybe gets a little loud if you’re really pushing it (i.e; running a demanding program and script while it’s updating or doing something else. Wish it wouldn’t update so much, but any Windows device will do that so I can’t really fault em for that. In general, I’d recommend it- I’ve only had it for 3 weeks at this point, but it’s effectively served my business/school/personal needs.

Sturdy construction. I love the little built in webcam cover so I don't need to worry about sticker gunk messing up my webcam if I need to use it. Video calls work fine. All in all a very solid budget laptop. Let's just see if it lasts as long as my other one! (6 years)

After a first hiccup (the laptop I initially received, brand new, was shutting off randomly and completely on its own I am very glad with this laptop. Works great, fast and the design is gorgeous and very pleasing. Thank you Lenovo, for all the customer service help! Seems to get a little over heated quickly so I have a cooling pad for it. Occasionally freezes and kicks me off video calls if I have my video camera on, but I’m unsure if that’s just a network issues. Otherwise very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really a great laptop with one annoyance! I have had this laptop one week and I have now tweaked it to my likings. One think I always do is remove the shortcut arrows and postpone all Windows updates until the bugs are fixed. The machine is a dream and very fast response to commands. In fact, the one annoyance is that the trackpad is extremely sensitive (I have set to minimum sensitivity) and sometimes my heavy hand causes it to perform when I don't want it to perform. I know I can deactivate the trackpad and use a mouse but that really defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Compared to others, the price range and build are better than most. Having this be mobile and sleek is a must and this definetly packs all of those features.

So, the L13 is just a bit smaller than I thought it was going to be, but it’s the most comfortable size I’ve ever worked on, and it feels dense and EXTREMELY well made. The low price point leaves you in a perfect position to customize it to what you really want (for example, I really wanted a touchscreen and a backlit keyboard, among a few other things, but didn’t care TOO much about the memory, but I was able to get pretty excessive with everything I was able to pack into this little guy for less than 1,000$, which you just don’t get anywhere else. All in all, this is gonna last me QUITE a few years, at which point I’m definitely going to come back and shop Lenovo; probably to get whatever the equivalent of this laptop is in 5 years or whatever. Oh, and side note; it’s not a 2-in-1, so it doesn’t fold all the way back, but it has a 180 degree hinge, which is perfect for the person like me that doesn’t know how to sit properly in chairs and needs a laptop that can sit in my lap wherever I’m at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thinkpad...not what I'd expected or hoped for. So disappointed in this purchase. Owned a Lenovo laptop G40, which was an excellent product in every respect. The new Thinkpad, despite being more expensive, feels poorly made...came without a cd-drive, as many computers now do, and will not record online audio...a major reason I bought it. (I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that any PC would record online audio. Left and right clicker buttons are above the trackpad, which is counterintuitive and would be a non-starter had I done better research and realized this before purchase. Honestly, I've put the Thinkpad in a closet and continue to use the old G40, despite its occasional slowness and old-age freezes. I feel I wasted $550 on the Thinkpad. While the computing power and processing seems fine, the above-mentioned drawbacks leave me with huge buyer-regret.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Among the Best I worked in IT for more than 25 years. The Lenovo ThinkPad was a standard among the top of the line laptops. I'll bet that many of them are still in use. After I retired, I went a different direction and mostly used Apple products. But I have to say that it is a pleasant surprise that the Lenovo ThinkPad is still as great as it was in the past. I am very pleased with my purchase and would suggest to anyone reading this that the ThinkPad is the best choice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance and Ubuntu Ready The ThinkPad L13 arrived safely packaged and without a glitch. I ordered it because I wanted a laptop that was sturdy, had the latest processors and, especially, was Linux ready. I wasn't disappointed. It was easy to partition the hard-drive and load Ubuntu and everything has run smoothly since. I've run Ubuntu on another manufacturer's computer and always had some problem with compatibility. I have not had any compatibility issues with the ThinkPad L13 and now wonder why I waited so long to switch to Lenovo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for working in less than ideal enviroments I got this to replace a very old netbook I was using for work (I'm a mechanic, and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend the 8GB ram upgrade, even with a pretty modest workload I seem to hang around 5-6GB usage. If I have one gripe it would be that for some reason they put the Fn key where Ctrl should be, so I hit it a lot by mistake. You can swap it in the keyboard settings so its no big deal but it still seems like a silly design choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is a great product with 1 little problem I have always wanted to owned Thinkpad for a long time but couldn't due to that it is pretty costly. This Thinkpad is just right for what I'm looking for which are light weight, durable case, not so large (looking for 13-14 inches screen) and in my affordable range for a second laptop. I'm usually a fan of MSI gaming laptop because of it fantastically smooth performance but what I hate about MSI are that its case is made of cheap thin plastic which doesn't do much in term of protecting the laptop and it is very heavy and big. I was looking for a second laptop that have durable case, small and lightweight so that I don't have to carry my MSI around. This Thinkpad L13 is perfect just like what I'm looking for. In term of performance, this Thinkpad still cannot beat my MSI but it is in the acceptable range for laptop this thin and lasted battery. Since it is my second laptop for daily use, I do not look for super high performance. On the other hand if this is my first and only laptop, I probably will buy the higher series with better performance. There is one thing that bugs me a little about this laptop is that the Fn and Ctrl button is switching places compare to other laptop in the market. I'm not really used to it so I keep pressing the wrong button and since I use both Thinkpad and MSI, I probably will keep having this problem. I aware that I can change the assigned key in the computer but I just do not like it when the button label doesn't match with its function. Other than that I wish I could like this product just like I love my MSIs (1st one last 10 years and still running, second one is about 2-3 years now and still work fantastic). The time will tell if this will last just as long as my 2 MSIs.

Would enjoy longer battery life but since I use it mainly at home it is no issue. Perfect laptop for someone who does school courses at home, streaming videos or podcasts simultaneously or just browsing the web. Have not used it for gaming yet.

Simply an excellent thinkpad, the build quality, all the ports, the keyboard is simply excellent, the travel is amazing, its a but on the heavier side. I have an X1 carbon, C930 and this L13. All are so different, but this L13 is straight up business, typing, writing, emails, its just works. I would recommend upgrading the screen to FHD, I purchased the lower tier screen and its, but I have FHD on the other models and its a huge difference. The i3 processor is just fine for email, having 10 or so tabs open on chrome, light gaming. You will be extremely happy if you get the i5 processor and FHD screen. Even with 4GB of RAM the unit works excellent for business and school purposes. The fan does kick in, obviously on heavy work load but it is quiet, even compared to my X1. Simply put a good purchased, if its for school and remote work, i3 processer 10th gen will do just fine, if you are using this daily as a workhorse you will not be disappointed at all upgrading to the i5 processer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall review The ThinkPad L13 is sleek, compact, and is a very versatile laptop with several types of ports on both base level and upgraded models. When upgraded, it can compete and beat out even the most premium laptops. Incredible performance at a good price. There are only a couple of main downsides: the chassis and the speakers. Downfiring speakers don’t compare to those that fire towards the user, but they are good enough for most people. The lid/screen is built well, being mostly made of metal, but the rest of the laptop is a flexible plastic. While durable, the flex doesn’t feel very premium, especially for those who purchased a top-of-the-line version.
