Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another wonderful Thinkpad This is my 4th Thinkpad starting back in the IBM days. I was worried that after the sale to Lenovo that qualty and innovation might suffer. But that has not happened as my previous T450S was still going strong. I needed to upgrade from windows 7 pro which I loved but unfortunately support ended. I also needed more hard drive space so took advantage of the December sales and bought the T480S with more space, faster processor, updated ports type C thunderbolt and HDMI. Typical Thinkpad, best laptop keyboard, solid build and lightweight. I'm a stock trader and easily have 3 extended monitors running in addition to laptop screen with use of separate dock and only one connection to laptop C port, incredibly efficient to unhook one cord for on the go. Looked at lot of laptops at Best Buy but always came back to the Thinkpad. BTW have always loved the trackpoint or the "nub" and glad Lenovo has continued it. I ordered directly from Lenovo as customer service is outstanding from start to finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall great but touchscreen is a bit lame. Overall very great little machine. But the touchscreen is sub-par compared to others I've had. The extra left / right click buttons above the trackpad are either a blessing or an annoyance depending on how you use the trackpad / pink tickler button. The Home and End buttons are in an unusual location on the keyboard. The network socket on the side of the machine is slightly undersize and it takes a lot of fiddling around to plug in. Otherwise so far it's been great.

Because it is primarily a desktop substitute,I do wish it had another USB port. After about a month, I cannot yet comment on durability, hence the rating of 4. Overall, I'm pleased.

Compact, lightweight, very easy to set up, great screen resolution. I love the backlit keypad (like my old Mac, fingertip password, and camera security. Four days in, I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My ThinkPad T480s Review The ThinkPad T480s is definitely an amazing laptop and one that will last for the many years to come. However, on my particular model, I've been having many build issues such as the TrackPad losing its physical click, the power button sometimes not turning on the machine, Ethernet cables getting stuck in the port, and some other minor issues. Repairs had also been done to the laptop, and even after the repair, some of the new parts became defective and stopped working as intended. These are things that can definitely be frustrating to a customer, and it was, however, the reason why I put a 5-star review is because of Lenovo's amazing customer support. After I opened a case and told Lenovo's support about my issues with the laptop, this T480s, my case was assigned to a case manager. She was amazing to work with and listened to all my concerns and replied in very quick manners. She then offered me a replacement laptop (the T14s) with much better specs than this laptop. She even allowed me to keep my T480s laptop for 2 weeks after my T14s arrived to transfer data and software. And the best part- it was all completely free and I hadn't had to pay for anything. What surprised me is that I hadn't even had to pay a temporary charge/give my credit card details to get the new laptop shipped. In fact, I have both laptops in my hands right now and plan to ship back my T480s in a couple days. This was an amazing experience and I am so proud to be a ThinkPad owner. This is where Lenovo excels. Thank you so much Lenovo!

Writing a dissertation still sucks but it is far more enjoyable with this beast of a laptop. It's fast, lightweight, stylish looking. The screen resolution is also incredible. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

But i wish that lenovo had included some graphics card other than intel graphics. However, what could anyone possibly want more than this?

I did research about all of the T line laptops and thought the T480s would be perfect for her. The Lenovo website was great to navigate through. She loves the laptop even more than the original one she works on. Through research and using her Lenovo laptop I have become a big fan. So, my laptops will strictly be Lenovo from now on. I'm the tech of my family and extended family and enjoy the love and craft put into Lenovo laptops.

Fingerprint sign on is a plus for added security. I found the T480 very easy to set up and configure to my personal preferences. I found the minimal amount of bloatware refreshing. The screen is just the right size. I would recommend purchasing the ThinkPad Thunderbolt Docking Station is you want to use two monitors.

It is very small and would be easily portable if I were to transport. I did also buy a bag to transport in however as expensive as this computer was I can’t imagine taking it anywhere! I am a teacher that is very fearful, with COVID-19, and I will be teaching from home at least sporadically throughout the year. I bought this computer as the specs were really good and I felt I would be able to teach/put work online/have Zoom meetings, and so on effectively with it.

It did not have a good webcam either, and I assumed that this one would be better because it was newer. But it's definitely not. Otherwise, seems to be performing well so far.

While the tech department was great and said it could be replaced, I then spent hours with sales people who couldn’t speak English and then was disconnected by mistake. Lenovo has to better integrate its systems between departments — I sales should have been able to pull up my records— it couldn’t

It's worth a reset of the Fn and Ctrl key, to behave like other keyboard configurations. Once reconfigured, the old Fn, new Ctrl key can need more force/impact to be recognised, so be sure to press down harder.

The good is: (1 it is light 3.0lbs yet still very sturdy and durable, (2) it has a great keyboard, (3) it has a great selection of ports including 2x USB-C as well as a full size SD card slot for removable storage, (4) it iss fast and quite and there is almost no bloatware on Thinkpads, (5) its parts can be replaced/upgraded VERY easily, including the RAM, the SSD, and the battery, which will extend the usability and life of this unit with minimal cost. The only thing that could be better is the display. At 250nits the matte display is generally fine, but sometimes I like to dial up the brightness for whatever reason. 350-400 would have been perfect. But when on sale, this unit is a great great VALUE for the quality, durability and usability that it provides. The T4x0s line is the slimmer version of T4x0 line and is the perfect balance between portability and Thinkpad flexibility/upgradeability. I bought an x1 Carbon last year and even though it was a half pound lighter, I did not like it as much because I could not upgrade the components myself and therefore had to order the unit with higher end components for which Lenovo charges a hefty premium. Get the T480s or T490s folks. It's the quintessential Thinkpad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable concept, new upgrades. Amidst the Covid-19 crises, it became quickly apparent and necessary in purchasing a reliable and afforable laptop. As the spectrum in computer hardware/software performances has greatly expanded in the last decade, the decision in choosing the best laptop suited to our needs wasn't easy. We needed a laptop that would satisfy student/business needs, while being light, with long battery life, and have quality performance. Though, our family may not be able to purchase laptops/computers often, we have been Lenovo users and will most likely share this one, too or given to our brother. The T480s isn't meant to be flashy or to be a gaming powerhorse, but is a durable, light, reliable laptop that can accomplish many of the tasks required of it. As we are using it for business/student purposes, many programs and internet tabs are operating at once, but the T480s doesn't seem to slow down. Though, there may be a light fan sound at times when operating at high stress usage, it quickly cools down after use. The battery life may be good, but sometimes, when the laptop is not in use, thr battery can decrease. It can be used for light gaming, but again, its main purpose is to be a business/student laptop. If you don't mind a plain looking square with some impressive surprises in its chassis, then this is the laptop for you.

I decided to purchase the T480S after having such a great experience using a T460 as a work computer for the past 3 years. The 480S is surprisingly a lot more thinner than I had expected which is great. I did conduct a side-by-side comparison of my new laptop and my work computer. I was slightly disappointed to find out that the older model had louder speakers and a brighter screen. The fan also appears to run noticeably louder on the 480S. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, knowing that the Thinkpad is a reliable and durable brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hidden Gem Great machine. Feels rock solid with a great keyboard. The machine is lighter than the convertible it's replacing while only a fraction of an inch thicker. For that fraction of inch, the machine has a full set of ports plus the ability to upgrade both the memory and the harddrive so that when I again max out my machine's memory and drive space, I can upgrade rather than replace. Some of the reviews I read had complaints that don't match my experience. The screen is more than bright enough. While it's slightly bigger than current ultrabooks, if you're upgrading from an older ultrabook, the size difference is close to zero. The battery life is not what is claimed but is what I expected given that I actually turn on wifi, keep screen at normal brightness and so on. In essence, the market is currently fixated on a couple ideals and the machines that fit those ideals sacrifice everything else including ports, durability and upgradability. This machine comes close to the ideal while keeping all those other things. After all, what good is a tenth of an inch, if you're constantly hanging dongles and port adaptors off the sides.

I just swap the thunderbolt wire from my dock back and forth between the two machines depending on what I'm doing. I'm very productive with my ThinkPads in my home office.

The screen goes off for a moment when plugging in or out of the power adapter. To compound on that, when plugged in and near fully charged, the screen starts to flicker as if it's registering the adapter getting repeatedly plugged in and out of the machine. Light from the camera's LED obscures the camera -- there's a blue light coming from the side of every one of my video calls. The speakers are subpar, and 45 days after purchasing the machine, it got stuck in hibernation mode and I couldn't turn it back on again without resorting to the emergency reboot pinhole under the machine. This was supposed to be a simple, work-from-home excel/googling/email/Netflix machine and it completely failed this low bar.

Due to the corona virus global pandemic and stay at home orders issued in NYC, needed a laptop to connect remotely to my office. My old MacBook pro was being serviced and due to Apple store closures, was unable to retrieve. After doing research on windows laptops for business, Lenovo ThinkPads were among the top rated, especially for IT deployment. Must admit that I was apprehensive at first to own a windows laptop, however this purchase has not only put my apprehensions to rest, I'm extremely satisfied with its capabilities.

Within weeks the machine had trouble booting quickly or would get caught up on a program / reboot / etc. Overall good machine at a very fair price. I recently bought another laptop but opted for the T580s instead.

Performance and features are good, but obviously I gotta go 1 star if it takes sticking a paper clip into the back of the computer just to turn it on

A well built thin and light with the features I wanted, the battery life is amazing, 1080p screen is not bad, the m.2 hard drive is fast, I love the usb-c charging and it's got two ports you can charge from (I was afraid if one broke my laptop would be junk but with two ports who cares!). The metal exterior is top notch I thought I wasnt a fan at first (missed the rubber texture I knew and loved) but it grows on you and feels just as premium. Oh and I almost forgot ....it's got my track point! Thank you Lenovo... ignore the haters and keep that amazing little red nub!

I used a ThinkPad T470s for work at my previous job and really liked it, so when I needed to replace my laptop after an unfortunate incident involving my cat and the bathtub (rip, laptop... I went with another ThinkPad. These are definitely workhorses. They're good, sturdy laptops and frankly pretty reliable. 10/10 would recommend. I like it a lot better than my current work laptop, which is an X1.

Overall it met my expectations so far. Very well built, good battery life and I hope Windows 10 pro version would add to the stability. I will probably upgrade the RAM but even without that the speed is quite good. And Lenovo support and care functions are awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great choice for mobility and upgradability I was looking for a combination of mobility and upgradability laptop and found T480s fits my requests. I haven’t had another Thinkpad since my T420, therefore I am confident with its build quality before purchase. T480s did a great job again. I am pleased with the anti-glare monitor since basically I can hardly find other brand of laptops equipment with anti-glare panel. The form factor is surprisingly slim to me, so is the product weight fits to my demand. I loved I can have the total control of extension ports and not just a single USB-C port. The I5-8250 cpu performs pretty well on my daily tasks especially the 6-core lifts some heavy jobs for me. The fan occasionally kicks in but not a noisy one for me. Even though it’s a 3-cell battery I can get the laptop running for up to 6hrs+. Overall, I’m happy with T480s and would like to recommend to anyone who’s looking for a decent laptop with great build quality and mobility.

As an IT professional who is in the business for 15+ years, ThinkPad's T series always appealed to me as an essential business-focused workstation. The keyboard is a joy to type on, built quality and workmanship is top-notch. Coming from my previous device, T470s (which I still enjoy to use, the transition was instant. Same keyboard, same form factor, better battery life, privacy shutter for the front-facing webcam, TYPE-C connections and a lot more. Intel i7 processor and 16GB RAM and 512 of nvme SSD, working on this laptop with the Windows 10 Professional is a great, never slow, speedy and keep up with all the IT related tasks I perform. Accompanying Lenovo Vantage app is a must have, it even lets you preserve the battery life and let you customize the device settings without even dialing into UEFI settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great business workstation If you're looking for a high quality build, versatile connectors, and an overall performant laptop, the 16gig ram i7 version of this laptop seems like it would do the work. I've had it for a week and it has performed as expected, with good battery life, decent camera/speakers, reliable Bluetooth connectivity, and a performant keyboard and screen. Direct sunlight isn't super workable, but otherwise very portable. Trackpad is not as amazing as newer mac offerings but better than most PCs I've touched. Touch screen is an added bonus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Machine As I was looking to buy a new laptop, I really wanted the flagship X1 Carbon. But I couldn't justify spending that much money. It turns out, the T480s is an excellent machine, and it has exceeded all my expectations! I bought the PC with Windows 10 pre-installed, and I replaced the operating system with Ubuntu Linux without any trouble. I sometimes need windows specific software (such as AutoCad), so I am using the Windows 10 license that came with the computer to run Windows 10 in a virtual machine inside Linux (in accordance with the Microsoft user license). The T480s handles my daily tasks in Linux and the Windows 10 virtual machine with ease. The T480s has 8GB soldered RAM, but it also has a DIMM slot for adding more RAM (which I will probably do in the future). I don't do much gaming, so I opted for the FHD display instead of the much more expensive QHD display. The FHD has been more than sufficient for everything I do. I also really love having the back-lit keyboard. Overall, I highly recommend this computer!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good T series but different. The T480s is a perennial business laptop with consistent performance and reliability. I have been using 5 different models for years. The current T480s is my latest version and this follows others in quality and value. Though earlier versions were more costly , the newer ones are value based. What I feel is that the T series has lost some edge on the competition like HP and Dell. The differences are screen performance, lack of additional software and performance. The screen is the matted type but loses out to other's due to this as most will not use laptops outdoors. With this- screen brightness is dull- newer users that enjoy streaming video or graphics games will be disappointed. Options for higher grade graphics is limited. The keyboard also feels new or not like the previous versions. Lets just say without the tactile-positive feel. It just feels plain. I understand that price points and competition is a key indicator of what you get......but adding a few more dollars for more bang will set you apart. I am not moving onto other brands but will look forward to Lenovo reviving the glorious-tech savvy nature.

Love the keyboard with separate keys for page up, down, arrow keys, insert/delete/home/end unlike Dell which forces you to use Fn key as well. Keys need just the right amount of pressure unlike Dell which tries to copy Apple keyboard but fails miserably. I think it's the Thinkpad series (originally IBM which make it stand out. I have had other Lenovo products that were as mediocre as Dell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moved from a T440S to a T480S. Nice upgrade! I purchased a refurbished T480S that appears to be custom-configured (Machine Type 20L7-SQ2V00). It came with an i5-8250U CPU, a 256GB NVMe SSD, and 8GB of RAM. I had heard a quote on Reddit recently that said something to the effect of "every time a new ThinkPad model is released, the previous model is immediately regarded as an End of an Era." In my case, I have been pretty pleased with my new-to-me T480S. My previous laptop was a ThinkPad T440S which I had upgraded with a new SSD, more RAM, and the T450 touchpad mod, which gives you separate hardware buttons on the touchpad. So far, the build quality on my T480S has felt pretty solid. About my only gripe so far is the lack of a removable battery. There's also a limitation where the Thunderbolt 3 connector is limited to 2 lanes instead of 4, which might be an issue for some eGPU enthusiasts. The T480S is slimmer than my previous T440S, and the improved power efficiency of the latest Intel chipsets makes battery life pretty impressive, even when I'm writing code in Visual Studio or working with Docker and VirtualBox.

However, my totally new computer is actually always heating and the fan keeps turning, the air outlet keeps venting, the sound is so loud. The huge noise makes me really embarrassed and annoy every time. This is the worst experience of computer purchase I have ever had. I ask the costumer service. But they just knew nothing can help. I am really angry. Because it's totally a brand new computer! I don't know what is the value of this high price.

Given I use the laptop on an office setting with no liquid spillage, etc. I am not sure why this should have happened. The reason I switched to this laptop was that my previous Lenovo Thinkpad became slow and some keys stopped working for it as well for no apparent reason. Lenovo should do a better job with the keyboard and touchpad

Ordering thru Lenovo website is fairly straightforward. The only thing that I didn't quite appreciate is the fact that the 30-day return/refund clock begins from the invoice/shipping day as opposed to the day when customer actually receives the product. So in essence the return window becomes shorter by at least 7 days (under normal shipping conditions I will try to come back in 6 months and update this rating based on more involved usage

Decided the T480s with its RAM socket, good build quality, good I/O, and excellent battery was the way to go. I have no regrets. The battery lasts an entire day, and the matte black finish feels premium. Only gripes are that the speakers leave much to be desired but otherwise it’s fantastic.

So, weight was a consideration as well as reliability, performance, battery-life and mouse pad. I might add, my company device is also a T480; so, I have been using the T480 laptop for a year+. I felt the Thinkpad reputation was enough for me as it relates to reliability and my most recent first-hand experience. I then looked at some of the other features. My prior laptop had a terrible mouse-pad and pointer. The Thinkpad has a GREAT mouse-pad that is functional and very USABLE. The screen quality meets my expectations and the performance is very good. I am not a 'gamer' or heavy computational user; so, therefore the T480 far exceeds my performance demands. I am sure I have made the best choice for my usage and needs.

Replacing my T400s which still works without issue but is in need of a battery and new hinges. I am very happy with the T480s and use it for both work and home. I've upgraded the hard drive and added memory. It runs 64bit Windows 10 Pro and Office 2019 as well as some CAD and graphics software. I replaced my docking station with a USB-C Lenovo unit and am awaiting the new Anker GaN PD wall charger so I can complete my travel kit. On the minus side, I think Lenovo has overthought their online pricing model(s and really need to simplify things by passing the lowest price along to the consumer. I went through a major cash back provider on Black Friday and like others, was initially denied the 12% cash back with subsequent finger pointing between Lenovo and Ebates. Too many steps to get was was offered on what I consider a major purchase.

The fan does work hard during antivirus scan or other intense operations while connected to AC power, but it operates cool while on battery. The battery is good too. It charged from 30% to 100% in about 2 hours. I was working on my photos in Adobe Light Room, while listening to Internet radio and watching YouTube videos on battery for more than 4 hours, and the battery went down to 62%. The form factor is very important as well. Now I do not even have any doubt, if I should take my laptop with me, while on a go, to use when I have some free time: it is small and lightweight. So, if you combine that with almost instantaneous power up/down operation and incredible battery life - it goes, where I go :-

At the time, you could only get a 128 GB hard drive and it had only an I3 Chip. It was finally running some things a little slow and decided it was time for an upgrade (Jan 2019, My membership club had this computer for its members. I wanted at least a 512GB hard drive with an I7 processor and this fit the need with all the ports I needed. The battery life does go a long way...I'm very impressed with the battery life!!!!!!!! Additionally, this computer is about the same weight and size as my older laptop.

The screen display is crisp, the keyboard is precise, and the built in mousepad is more responsive than what I am used to. The facial recognition security feature is a must! Lenovo's lives up to their word concerning battery life--I am getting about 12 hours of use on one charge, although this is with the maximum battery life setting--no more worries about having to find power ports during continental air travel. Best computer purchase that I have done in a long time! I wish that I could perform as well as ThinkPad!

Lenovo has also been spectacular with me, rapidly shipping and responding. As my computer shipped broken, I was able to send it in very easily with a quick return expected. But the couple of errors it shipped with were glaring, nearly making it unusable. My cpu got insanely hot under very low loads, reaching the thermal throttling point of 100C very quickly, with only a couple tabs open on chrome, unless I was at the lowest possible power setting. This is unacceptable, and far outside manufacturer promises. My track pad, if at all dirty or my fingers at all sticky, would make the cursor skip wildly across the screen, sometimes simply refusing to register motions which when repeated exactly would register on the third or fourth attempt. When plugged in and at 100% battery, the screen would flicker rapidly as the computer decided whether to connect to the thunderbolt or simply run without charge. I went through and downloaded all of the relevant drivers from the manufacturer website, updating them, and had no success. I feel like it is a great computer, but simply shipped with some crippling issues somehow as I don't seem to be seeing many similar complaints. I hope this is a one - off event.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultrabook with discrete graphics card: light and f I ordered the T480s as part of the Green day sale, and I am delighted! After 10 years of various and sundry hand-me-downs I finally bit the bullet and ordered one with all the specs I wanted. It runs fast and cool, it renders 15 minutes of video in about 10 minutes. I play games, I carry it with me. It's light, it's fast, it's slim but I don't notice the loss of screen real estate (my last laptop was a couple inches bigger in the screen. You'll be saying "well of course, after hand me down computers anything is better." That's true. But what's also true is I worked in IT for a long time and I do know what a new computer should be like. The last time I bought a fully kitted out computer it was a Dell XPS, back in the day when those were consistently reliable. I have only had this one a few weeks but so far I'm very satisfied. Two complaints: one, ups lost the package and it was a week and more trying to get it after it got lost. But Lenovo's service getting it back was excellent. Two: the fingerprint reader fails more often than it succeeds. I'm not sure if that's Microsoft's reading software or the hardware or both. I haven't used the touchscreen as much as I thought I would, but it's early yet. I definitely wish it had a yoga hinge, but I needed the discrete graphics card more. In short, an excellent all around machine.

I preferred the keyboard of my older T440s, but this could change it time. I prefer the older body style as well, but this machine has a great feel and above all the performance has been spectacular.

It has the battery life, portability, and build quality to be considered an “ultrabook.” Yet it is beefed up just enough to check every other box I had. It has enough cooling capacity that it doesn’t throttle and the fans are never annoying. It has as many replaceable parts as can be practical on a laptop. It has multiple USB C and USB A ports, full size hdmi and a recessed full size SD card reader. It’s very configurable with options that for the most part aren't overpriced. I couldn’t find another laptop quite like it. And so far, it’s worked perfectly for me.

Slim and light without compensating ports. It doesn’t get heat up on normal usage, so it sits comfortably on my lap. The classic black color also still delivers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good laptop for learning GPU programming. I took i5 8350U +16 GB+ 512 GB+ MX150 GPU version. This is the only thin 14 inch ThinkPad with Ethernet port and a discrete GPU. This is a small GPU but is certainly helpful for basic GPGPU programming. I can see the clear difference in video quality with hardware acceleration. Overall I am happy with this laptop. Please note that X1 carbon seems to have even better SSD and screen options than this model. So far, in my normal usage, the battery is certainly not 15 hr but surely 6-7 hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the best but it is practical I have been using T480s for 3 weeks now & here is the main things I disliked about it, 1st it went very hot from the right edge side & the fan was aloud, this returned back normal after restart. 2nd sometimes (more than 4 times) when I start windows it doesn't connect to the WiFi but it connect automatically after a restart. 3rd Battery always shows 98%-97% & never hit 100% showing (plugged in, not charging).. Rather than that, T480s is very practical & affordable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keyboard is bananas. Pros: touchscreen, keyboard, durability, having ports you'll actually need/use. Cons: Battery lasted 7 hours from 100% to cutting itself off. From stand by/hibernate, audio will start playing once you hit power button but before actually signing in. May not be isolated to this model but a larger Windows 10 problem.

But the sound sounds small, and the Thunderbolt3 interface doesn't contain dust plug like ads.It’s a bit annoying to have the built-in office365 not completely deleted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A truly solid Thinkpad! I've been using this laptop for a few weeks now and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I use it for business as well as for personal tasks (including 3D modeling) and streaming, I don't use it for gaming. Facial recognition works perfectly, which is great. The battery life is impressive - even when I'm using the laptop heavily and continuously, the battery will last all day and well into the evening. The keyboard has just the right resistance, but the screen, which is flat and dull, is a bit of a disappointment, especially when I have an X1 Yoga to compare it to! As far as performance, the laptop is very quick and responsive, even when I'm multi-tasking between multiple apps and endless browser tabs. It will sometimes lose its wifi connection, but, to be frank, I'm not entirely sure whether it's the laptop or my service provider that has the issue. I haven't had a chance to use the webcam, but I am sad that it doesn't have a cover like my W510 did. It would be nice be feel secure in my privacy. I have seen the camera light turn on when I wasn't using it and that was really disconcerting. Overall, though, I'm happy with this laptop and will often choose to use it instead of my X1 Yoga, which is only a few months old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop so far! Just 2 minor issues. I love it so far. It’s a very solid workstation. Two complaints, however, is that it arrived with minor, barely noticeable smudges on the lid (top cover of the laptop). In addition, the screen seems to have a brighter part on the top left that’s noticeable when the whole screen is black (black wallpaper for example or when it’s booting up with the Lenovo logo) which bothers me sometimes. It might just be some dust behind the LCD panel from the factory I’m not really sure. I hope they do a better job on taking care of parts when building the laptop next time. Other than that, GREAT laptop overall!!! Would definitely buy again.

The form factor is incrediblely slim and the performance is impressive! I like the Lenovo update software - super easy to use and nice not to have to download and update drivers manually. My only complaints are that it currently doesn’t work with my Lenovo Thunderbolt dock that is new within the last 4 months - seems like a firmware update should be able to fix it but I found it strange. It would also be great if there was a magnetic connector for the power cable - it always scares me that a small bump (or kids running through the power cord) would snap the connector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Material-wise an excellent laptop This is a very powerful laptop with a bunch of ports and a nice display (not super bright, but it's plenty enough for me). Personally, I like the keyboard, and I don't mind the Fn key in the bottom left. Anyway it's easy to switch the Ctrl and the Fn key with the Lenovo Vantage software. I like the fact that I can open and fix/replace components in this laptop, and I'm willing to sacrifice the better trackpad and hinge I would get with a Macbook for that. The real problem is the software. It came with a 2017 release of Windows 10 Pro and some very old drivers (I bought the laptop in sept 2018, the software was more than 1 year old). It was faster for me to reinstall everything from scratch. Plus, the USB port on the right doesn't support external SCSI drives (a lot of external hard drives use SCSI controllers). This problem is purely software related. It worked for a while, and Windows did some kind of automatic driver installation while I was using my external hard drive, and it stopped working. I opened a ticket on the terrible Lenovo support website, I still haven't received an answer (opened 2 weeks ago). TLDR: perfect laptop if you know your way around a bit. You only need Lenovo Vantage from the Microsoft Store, Lenovo did put all the old utilities inside this not-that-great-but-good-enough app. For the record, I got the T480s i7-8650U 16GB-RAM 1TB-NVMe 2560x1440 display without touch capacity. Note to self: Windows 10 scaling is a total mess. My main screen is 100%, my laptop screen is 150%. Compared to MacOS it's terrible (not a big deal for me, maybe it is for you)

The first time I ordered it, I missed the option for backlit keyboard because the section to order that feature showed a pulldown menu with the first option labeled "English". The backlit keyboard in my opinion has a better feel (the keys are smooth).I just thought that the other options were other languages. I had to re-order with the backlit keyboard selected and return the other. Also love the Windows 10 Hello login with camera (be sure to order the 3d camera).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good machine I got this 2-3 weeks ago and so far am quite happy. The setup was a breeze, it's light, keyboard is convenient (I've had thinkpads before, so I'm used to them. I really like that it still has two old-fashioned USB slots (for USB sticks or older printers), a lot of new light laptops don't have those anymore. My only minor gripe is that the sound is a bit muffled, I'm not sure if it's the speakers themselves or their location, but it's not crisp and not loud even at the highest setting.

Everything is great...EXCEPT...there was a huge problem that when it was plugged in and reached 100% the screen would keep dimming and go black, then come back on, dim, and go black. It would repeat this over and over until I unplugged from power. Obviously this does not work for me. Had to return. Waiting for it to arrive today. Hopefully it all works.

So far, that's precisely what the T-480s has given me. I've only had it for two weeks, but if it continues to perform as it has for these two weeks, I imagine I won't have to buy another laptop for the rest of my college career - and quite possibly beyond. I think I'm going to make some of my fellow students on campus wish they had purchased one these bad boys instead of... you know. I'm not the most tech savvy of customers, so I can't rattle off benchmark stats and arcane programmer jargon, I can just tell you that I'm pleased so far. I'll update this review if I find something amiss, but I doubt that I will.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Grad School I was initially hesitant to get a Thinkpad because many of the past iterations I have seen were so big, chunky, and frankly unattractive workhorses, but I'm so glad I splurged and bought the T480s on sale from Costco. This laptop is so thin and very light! Much better than what o was expecting. Solid construction, satisfying keyboard, and of course good hardware running. It boots up quickly and hasn't flinched for any SPSS programming I've run thus far. This will definitely last me through grad school and beyond as a portable work computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good The first one I got had some hiccups but Lenovo was quick to replace it and now everything is running smoothly. I only had the T480s for a few weeks but it's been great so far. Keyboard is good, chassis is light, everything works as it should. I think performance on this one beats a lot of more expensive rigs. The Mx150 dGPU however was probably a waste of money. Given that right now it's the same price as the X1 it is a bit of a question which one to get. I had an X-line Thinkpad before and it had serious overheating issues so I picked this one for the better thermals. The X1 will have better peripherals (screen and track-pad for sure, maybe better keyboard too but the T480s is plenty good) so it depends on your preferences. I wish the T480s had a glass track-pad and a higher quality FHD screen than it would be a no-brainer. Word of advice: unless you need 1080p to match the resolution of other screens you work with (like I do) go with the WHQD screen, the FHD is kinda meh.

I found that the computer is very nicely built (looks and feels high quality) and was extremely easy to set up. While loading some programs, it was very apparent how fast this machine is. My configuration is 16GB of Ram and 512GB SSD hard drive. While I use computers in my business, I am by no means a technology expert. The set up has been flawless and I experienced no problems whatsoever. So far, I really love this notebook as it has met or exceeded my expectations. I love the fact that this notebook has an extensive array of ports—USB, Video, Ethernet, etc. Therefore, I am very happy with this purchase and I would highly recommend this notebook computer for anyone looking for a high end, high performance notebook which is built well and easy to set up. And did I mention excellent battery life?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Laptop, Great for Programming I recently purchased this laptop and I have been very impressed with its overall quality. I thought I would write about five aspects of the laptop that were the most influential on my positive rating or just things that are good to know. 1. Ergonomically speaking, this laptop is very well built. The top surface where you place your wrists is solid and does not have a flimsy plastic feeling, something I have experienced on older laptops. 2. I did research before hand on the quality of the keyboards on Lenovo laptops and found that they seem to have a reputation for being high quality; this laptop definitely lives up to that reputation. As a programmer, I have found that the keyboard allows me to type very fast and accurately and is very comfortable. 3. Again with the keyboard, some years ago I heard that Lenovo had changed the keyboard layout. Given how much fuss people made about missing the old keyboard design I was concerned that I might not like the new one. Fortunately, Lenovo has done a good job with the new design and I have found that I have adjusted to the it very quickly. Not only does it not hamper my ability to do programming, I now prefer it over the old one. 4. The laptop also doesn't get too hot when watching videos. If I watch videos for an hour with the computer in my lap it starts getting warm, but not what I would consider hot or uncomfortable. 5. Finally, an important feature for me was the location of the headphone jack and the USB ports. The headphones plug into the left side of the laptop, which allows me to use my external mouse without the headphone cable getting in the way. Overall I would give this laptop a very positive review. When I need a new laptop in the future I will probably get another ThinkPad.

Costco was suppossed to load it with Office 365 and couldn't figure out that never happened, so Microsoft provided excellent service to get me up and running. The machine is amazingly fast, and lightweight. I am just hoping it holds together and doesn't have motherboard issues like my previous Lenovo had after only two years service, which is what prompted me to purchase another computer.

The compensating factor is the overall hap-tics of the machine are great. Smooth mouse decent screen and solid feel. One thing I do not understand is the finish on this machine is super lame. It will scratch or scuff from the smallest amount of contact not to mention people who use lotion on their hands permanently leave hand prints opening up the screen because the finish absorbs the oils in the lotion like a sponge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the light weight and long battery life I bought this one from Costco. It's my 3rd ThinkPad T-series (the first was so long ago, it was an "IBM", not a "Lenovo"...) This T-480s replaces a 9 year old T-400, which I still have (and which is still running Win7). This new T480s is about 1/3 the thickness and 1/3 the weight of the old one. I have been able to do 2 full days of work on battery power - e-mails, Excel, Word, etc., which is light-years ahead of my previous system. I like the system's new compact USB 3/Thunderbolt ports...they're *FAST*. I copied the 50+/- GB of data from my old system to a USB 3.0 thumb drive, and it all downloaded to this system in about 1/2 hour. The placement of the most-used ports - the multiple USBs (including power in), the HDMI, and the Ethernet connector - are all on the same side of the laptop, making it much more convenient to use than if they were spread out on both sides. Smart design, Lenovo! The backlit keyboard on this system is much easier to use in low light than the past design of an overhead LED placed in the lid (near the camera). The lighting on/off and brightness functions are intuitively placed and the keyboard itself is very legible. Speaking of the keyboard, these have the same great motion and click action of past Lenovo (and IBM) keyboards. There's no compromise anyone might feel using this one rather than an external. Downside - I loved my old "7-Row" keyboard on my previous systems - and particularly miss the backward/forward webpage navigation keys near the arrow matrix. I was actually considering buying the 'anniversary' ThinkPad just for the older layout. Downside? I haven't found one yet. This laptop came from Costco configured with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD drive. The battery on this model is permanently installed - so my one concern is what i'll experience with battery life after the warranty is over. But the permanent battery in this one means it's a bit smaller and lighter than the removable battery in comparable T-480, and the specs say it holds about 40% more energy. I've had this computer for about 2 weeks. Assembly/component issues show up in the first few hours of use, and i've had no issues. Everything seems well screwed-together. *Disclosure* - I have a technology consulting business and have been doing this work for about 40 years. I'd recommend this computer to technical users, general business users, and home users.

I’m a university student, most of the time I use my laptop for coding and writing essays, with some casual gaming, I used to own an alienware 17, it was a big, heavy and power hungry laptop, it was difficult to carry around the campus. I travel a lot with my car, it was also so dificult to power the computer with a standard power inverter for my car, I have to use one that needs to be directly hooked up to the cars battery in order to deliver the full 400w that the computer need. I did a lot of research on the best laptops that would fit my needs (powerful enough for casual gaming, comfortable to type in, light, no to much plastic, beautiful, powerful to run vms without throttling). I came out with the x1 carbon, it was a great machine, but no option to upgrade ram, and no physical Ethernet port (a must for things I do). So I decide to go with the T480s, it is a great laptop, I’m in love with it, it’s so easy to carry it around, so comfortable, and powerful, build quality is excelent. I feel that this computer will last for years. Something in not so happy with this laptop is the screen, it’s not bad but not great, for the price I paid I was expecting to get something better, other flag is the finger print reader, it’s hard to get it to work sometimes, I end up just using my pin to unlock my computer, much easier than trying to make the reader recognize my finger

The keyboard's up to the expected ThinkPad standards, the touchpad seems more reliable than the version I had on my previous PC (a T440s), and the screen has excellent resolution (though I haven't given its Windows 10 "touch" features any use beyond a few experiments). I miss the older style docking station (and of course Windows 7's XP compatibility mode), but overall this is an excellent PC and I'm very happy with my purchase.

When plug in earbuds or headset, the left channel has no sound. I sent it back for return. Though promised to be repaired and sent back in 6 days, after nearly one month, the computer is still on hold in the repair center. This is very annoying ! One month after purchase, I haven't used it for more than 3 days. It really delays my work, and has bad influence on my job. I'll tell all my friends to never believe in the quality and service of Thinkpad !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from only one major problem... The only reason this isn't a five start product is there is a horrendous hardware bug involving the the USB-C video output. If you are trying to connect two external monitors, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I understand the appeal of USB-C (docking is much nicer), but I think it was a huge mistake not to also include a mini-DP port. I have never had problems with either HDMI or DP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to a Thinkpad I used an IBM Thinkpad for years then bought a MacBook Air with 8Gb of memory and 500 Gb SSD when it came out. I liked the smaller, compact design, speed and keyboard. However to use Quicken and Quickbooks, which I did daily in my work for nonprofits, and other Windows only programs I installed a virtual Windows desktop, Parallels. I did miss the more robust versions of the Windows Office programs. I used dual 27” Dell monitors but the j5create 350 USB 3.0 that allowed me to use the second monitor did not give a true extended desktop. As Apple updated its operating system—I used the latest developer editions—more often than not I’d find some quirk that slowed down my work. I was not doing heavy photo or video work and did not explore the Mac Media software. I installed Bootcamp but did not like having to restart the Air whenever I wanted to use an Apple program which was mainly to access iCloud. In January of this year, 2019, I decided to switch back to a Thinkpad. I chose the T 480s with 1Tb SSD, 16Gb ram, and HD touch screen because it is a no-nonsense business laptop with the advantages of state-of-the-art design and electronics, terrific keyboard and screen, multiple ports and a form factor that is both handsome and efficient. I’ve now used it for several months and could not be more pleased. I added the dock with Type-C connector and love the convenience and the HDMI/3.0 dual monitor connection for a true extended desktop. My monitors do not have Display ports so I cannot daisy-chain them which the dock would allow. I am again a Thinkpad owner and am very happy to be one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The T480s is the Leader of the Pack for business. I looked at many computers and tried them at the stores. Lenovo T480s just kept coming back to the top of my list. The computer is SOLID and Rugged and durable. It is lightening fast. It has all the latest features that one would need in a business computer. I use mine on the go and travel internationally. I'm really tough on laptops. I've been using this one for 3 months now and am extremely impressed and satisfied. The SSD Drive is a treat to show off to others with a standard "moving parts" hard drive. I tell them to count as my computer boots up from full off and not sleep. It takes about 4-5 seconds. The battery life is much better than I expected and it recharges very fast in about an hour to almost full charge. The keyboard is so nice to type on. It is pretty much a full size keyboard and is backlit. The backlighting on the keyboard is important as I like to work later than my wife and I can easily see the keys in the dark as I type away. The keyboard is also quiet so it doesn't wake her up. I love the touchpad and ease and accuracy of movement. There are plenty of ports. I'd like one more USB but you get the new Thunderbolt port instead and it's simple and very inexpensive to get a USB port expander The computer is light in spite of it's ruggedness. The sound quality is great. I really don't watch movies and such so can't speak to the quality of the display as I am a business user. The display seems equal or better to anything I've had in the past. Even small things like the AC Adapter are well built and sturdy. I love the fingerprint sign in and it recognizes my fingerprint way faster than my last computer and I don't have to be very precise as to how I lay my finger on the sensor. I have had many computers and quite a few Lenovo computers over the years. I'm never disappointed and always impressed.

Using Lightroom and Photoshop very smooth no hickups. Non-reflective screen very nice. Small minor issues: figure print recognition doesn't work well. I had been using a Dell Precision for about 6 years and wanted a higher performance, lighter in weight laptop. The T480s is about one half the weight of my Dell laptop and has a battery that lasts twice as long (typically about 10 hours on a charge. The antiglare FHD screen is beautiful. Prior to my retirement we used Lenovo laptops at work and I have always loved the quality of the keyboard. I have been raving about my Lenovo so much that my wife recently decided to upgrade her Dell Inspiron 15.6 inch laptop to a Lenovo P51s laptop.

I called customer service and the guy on the phone said nothing.He even not tried to say something. he just said that he sent me a box to send him back them to Atlanta for technical assistance. Since I don't have an another computer and the issue is caused by software problem I didn't send my computer. I fixed myself by adjusting graphic power plan to maximum performance in intel graphic settings. Now the computer works fine without any problem.

I regularly pick it up with one hand, holding it only by the palmrest, and the chassis doesn't even bend. Works perfectly with the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock...I just unplug one little cable and I'm ready to hit the road! Modern games perform well on the MX150 GPU. I am also blown away by how long the battery lasts! I can go almost all day without charging it. Most of the time I don't even bother bringing a charger with me. Movies look wonderful on the FHD IPS screen. I went with the i5 and have yet to see any CPU bottlenecks. Never been more pleased with a computer purchase.

Solves the historical weak point of Thinkpads, the dim, low nit display. The quad HD display is amazing, Macbook-grade and easy on the eyes. Form factor is light and slick, keyboard is comfortable, backlit keyboard (optional is fantastic and the overall performance/speed is fantastic. Loving every minute of it! I chose the T480s over a Macbook or Surface Pro 2, I feel like a well-spec'd T480s is finally comparable.

The only problem I have encountered so far, after using it for 2 weeks, is the fan noise. It is rather loud *sometimes* and tends to flip on and off every couple of seconds. This doesn't happen when using the battery and I suspect it has something to do with 4-core performance that warms up the LT. Still, I'd expect the fan to kick in for a minute or two instead of 'flipping' every 5 seconds and overall be a bit quieter.

I thought it was silly when I bought it, but being able to unlock with a fingerprint is actually really convenient. It doesn't always work, but that may be due to my hands often being dirty. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thinkpad T480s good machine for Ubuntu 18.04 Upgraded to T480s with i5 with 1920 display from T450s with i7, maxed out the RAM at 24GB, pulled the 256GB Windows SSD and added 1TB NVMe SSD and installed Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux kernel 4.20.13. No issues. 5-7 hours on single, non-replaceable battery, depending on usage. Keyboard and red mouse button are the good standard Lenovo Thinkpad items software people want. In retropect, 1TB now seems like overdoing it, since everything is cloud-based anyway. Could have just wiped Windows on the 256SSD that came standard. Decided on i5 rather than i7 after reading reviews (Tom's Hardware? that pointed out better sustained performance with the i5 due to fan design.

The issue was from the time it was delivered the screen randomly going blank. Onsite service replaced everything in the unit over multiple calls and the problem remained. They finally replaced the machine and the new one works perfectly. Speedy, good screen resolution, long battery life. I really like the machine. Just took months and lots of calls to finally resolved the issue.

The new one seems good but I am sending it back to Lenovo to get an issue with monitor repaired. After making sure all updates were installed the monitor still flashes on and off when fully charged. Bust customer service was great and is sending me a box today.

Within five days, on the 8th the screen developed a gray bar of few centimeters height, at the bottom. For a 1400 usd system, this kind of poor quality control is unacceptable, in my view. Any ways, great system like the touch screen and the fast response. Like the little red dot in the center for moving around, makes the mouse I got not so important, but still useful. If I buy another system I will defiantly look at Lenovo again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Voltage leak for onboard sound card. The machine build is incredible, very robust and sturdy. Unfortunately, I am in the process of receiving a third machine. Both the first and second machines I have gotten have this horribly annoying issue with audio. When using the speakers, or even the 3.5mm headphone jack, there is white noise emitting from the onboard speakers. In other words, when listening to music through external speakers or headphones, the laptop will emit white noise from it's speakers. It is SO annoying after a while. Worst part is, it's not driver related. I can recreate the issue before boot. It's frustrating because for such an expensive machine, there shouldn't be a voltage leak like this. I'm not entirely confident in the next machine having fixed the problem. When I called tech support to describe the issue they said, "this is a very common issue with our boards." Okay..? Wouldn't it be in Lenovo's best interest to fix the problem in order to stop frequent exchanges? I really want to keep with the Thinkpad line but if my next one has the same issue I will be switching. According to some online research, it isn't just t480s boards that have this issue.

Lenovo has serious driver and I/O issues with LTSB version of windows 10. Closing lid the computer goes to sleeb but when opening it the sceen will remain black. And BSOD when de-docking. L2 lenovo support confirmed that this issue will not be addressed and should use Windows 10 home or pro version.

Weak documentation from Lenovo about how to get the software I'd purchased with the system, and then a long hassle to get the programs. That's more a failing of Lenovo. Also, Lenovo keeps asking me to create new logins for Lenovo ID, which I've done a half dozen times and it seems to never find that ID. Not keen on the forcing of Edge on users by MS, as it's fast but sites aren't built to use it's shortcuts.

It had no issues streaming 2 to 3 shows at the same time with no buffering or drops in graphic power. The only issues I found with the laptop is with the finger print scanner it rarely worked, I redid my finger print 10 different times and got it to actually log me in only once. The keyboard also has a few issues when typing long reports it actually missed keystrokes off and on. This is a great laptop for either personal or business use, I would recommend this laptop to anyone.

First, the battery isn't staying as much as mentioned in the website while I'm using office to type. I bought this one instead of T470S because of many reasons and battery was one of them. Also, I feel bad that after I bought it by one month the price went down from 2069$ to 1862$. I believe that now is the good time to buy it after that discount.

Biggest complaint is the touch pad, I miss the buttons at the bottom of the touch pad that make navigating easy. I've had to slow down the pad because it is so sensitive, but I'm still struggling with things like my screen enlarging or closing, opening and movement of windows I had no intention to move. The buttons are now built in to the bottom of the touchpad, but you have to be super specific where you hit in order to get the action you want. Super disappointing. Audio has a tin-ish sound. Machine doesn't have a lid latch, so when I put it in my backpack I have to be careful that it doesn't accidentally open. In general my previous model case seems more robust and able to handle the harsh conditions of going in and out of a backpack and the constant travel I do. I'm also disappointed in the keyboard back light, which I use a lot and paid for as an addition to this laptop. It seems as though the lighting comes from the top of the keyboard down and in general isn't as bright or effective to that of my T430s. They have also removed some of the quick buttons like mute and volume increase/decrease which made things quick and easy. I'm also disappointed at the lack of recovery media either with them machine or on a partitioned drive. Now I have to order it from Lenovo and in my case it only allows for a digital download, adding hours of effort to setting up my new machine. Also took a long time to get the machine. I customized it, but not with anything crazy that should justify a month plus to receive the shipment. Positives - beautiful, clear screen. Footprint of the machine and weight are fabulous. Machine seems fast, but I haven't fully transitioned to the new machine with the applications I use on a day to day basis.

My daughter is off to college and the college has stiff requirements for their students computers. I have been happy buying Lenovo for years now, but always shop around. I landed here again as this was the most I could find for the money. This computer is really fast. The sound is great. Image is great. (I wanted this to work as entertainment as well as work. It's for college after all.) This is very light.( My daughter wanted that.) But the frame and keyboard feels well built. I'm not worried about it's longevity. The battery has lasted fine for summer Netflixing that has been taxing it.Overall very pleased. If anything changes I will update this review.

This model is replacing a T500 of 2009 heavily modified - btw I think you should always provide assistance for old model without me going in aftermarket t replace motherboard. Solid and reliable, it provides all features that might be needed for business or personal use. It is getting a little pricey though compared to competitors

The biggest problem with the smaller sized laptops are overheating but this one is very different. I work for normally 13 - 14 hours per day and the battery is also great.. even with moderate usage with heavy programmimng and online video and learning the battery lasts for 7 - 8 hours and with normal web surfing it runs for 13 hours....

I wouldn't mind if it also had a dedicated GPU but for the money, I think it's a very decent machine. One thing: This is a replacement for a 2 year old T470s which died in a weird blue screen death spiral. Hoping this works for longer... but I'm backing up weekly/daily out of paranoia.

IT's a toshiba, which are still good but the WRITE speed will cap at about 1300MB/s. The Samsungs can hit 3500MB/s write. The quad core CPU is wonderful, the screen is the best I've ever seen and I really like my port options. I would give it a 5/5 if it weren't for the cheaper nvme ssd they pick for you. Still good, though. 1300MB/s is freaking great. (but not the best, nor close to it)

I was initially looking for 15" notebook with 8th gen Intel processor but ended up with this 14" notebook from Lenovo. What I realy liked wa the unmatched Lenovo quality, best industry specs and components, carbon fiber light weight body, and the none glare display. It is not the most affordable notebook for its specs but definitely the best value overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid machine, excellent performance I bought it a month ago to use it as my home laptop, for some casual gaming and for photo editing, I have been a Mac user for the last decade, however decided to go with lenovo as need windows for some games and as latest macbooks are not that great. Performance is solid, I love how it performs and the construction is solid and lightweight, I love that it comes with plenty of ports, the touchpad is good but still far from the mac touchpads. I bought a graphics thunderbolt dock, the one with the nvidia GTX 1050 card and works amazing, 100 fps on Fortnite so I play sometimes with my son. Bottom line I am happy and I recommend it.

Lenovo has been my default for work since it was owned by IBM. I liked the keyboard and the industrial strength case. I purchased thisT480 from Costco and was a bit disappointed. It was a good PC but something was off. It was light but does not seem to be as well built as my T460. May be it was me but it felt "flimsy." I was expecting better considering the price premium over HP, Acer and other PC brand. Nevertheless, it is functional and useable. Anyone out there has an opinion on if Lenovo is "cheaping" out on their products to increase profit margin? :-)

Biggest plus is that it is so much better then the X1 carbons we were using. not as light, but I have had much less user issues.

There is supposed to be a “wizard” that will help set it up after entering credentials and it does not work. No response from help that was requested and help site was useless. Can’t load the software that was purchased because links to it are in my iCloud email. Waste of money and terrible follow up.

It's got narrower edges around the display which makes it look even nicer. The T480s without a exchangeable battery module eliminates an external movable component, for me it's a plus.

I know T480s is not the top of the line right now, but I have passed the period of chasing the best. i5, 8G, 256 SSD is my minimum requirement, and this one meets my budget. My work does not rely on high performance laptop, and I am only using it for light home office and personal entertainment. The touch screen is a bonus. The battery life is surprisingly good, I can put it unplugged all day. Of course, I am comparing this to my old X201 and my wife's 5 years old Macbook Air. I am still trying to get use to the chocolate keyboard. And I like it can connect my mouse with bluetooth thus saving me an extra USB port. And HDMI and thunderbolt 3, nicely done, Lenovo! That's why I don't like MacBooks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OLD TO NEW I used a Toshiba Laptop for over 10 years in my law office. I never had updated my Outlook software in that period of time. Then for some unknown reason, the computer directed me to update and I accommodated its command; my Toshiba was hit with 47 updates. My poor little, elderly notebook ground to a screeching halt and so did its poor, old owner. Time to mirror what was left onto a new notebook. I shopped at a few tech stores which touted other brands, such as Dell and HP, but I held back not satisfied with the demos I used. Then, I hired an IT person who was thoroughly convinced that the Lenovo Think Pad was the best model to buy. Not only did he purchase one for me but he had also purchased Lenovo Notebooks for his clients and his family. This IT person was thoroughly enamored with Lenovo's speed, capabilities and durability. I followed his suggestion and purchased the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 (14") and I could not be happier. The ThinkPad starts as fast as an Apple and is more than capable of dealing with an old user, like me. I would recommend , in a heart beat, the Lenovo to my family, friends and associates.

When it became time to retire my T430, I considered The Macbook, and Macbook Air as an alternative- but after research chose the T480s, and I'm very happy I did. The T480s did not disappoint- the great keyboard we have become accostomed to, still user serviceable for future RAM and HD upgrades, and the overall quality- but in a lighter, more compact package.

I haven't actually tried gaming or anything on it for fear that I might slow down the computer, but for my purposes of quick searches and tasks, it has been amazing. I went from Windows 7 to this, and the transition has been seamless as they are surprisingly similar in how it is laid out. I would recommend this to any college student debating between buying a $2500 Macbook Pro or some random Windows laptop. Being tech savvy is probably better if you're scared of viruses, but I got a 1 year subscription for McAfee Web Protection with this purchase, and so far it has worked well.

At the airport, the screen froze and I could do nothing to unfreeze it. I did call support services upon arrival at my hotel, and provided advice for an easy fix. Logging on was frustrating so I abandoned it for the remaining part of the trip. My diappointment is software related. I didn't realize would have such a controlling role in its functioning. The computer itself feels good - nice touch of the keys, and I'm looking forward to using the back lit feature (one I figure out how to turn it on).

It spends its days waiting in my backpack alongside my soccer cleats, ball, and cones waiting and ready to run our club and keep my teams organized. When I am not at my day job, I am spending my time at our soccer pitches as the club president, general manager, director of coaching, and academy coach. All the administration aspects of our club are run on a web based application and I needed a rugged computer with long battery life without the typical bulk and massive price tag that comes with most rugged computers. This laptop and I think all ThinkPads are milspec rated... It stands up to the demands I put on it. Rain, dust, bumps, and the hot Alabama summer days have been no match for this powerhouse. Along with that, it also has a long battery life and has lasted all day while running a 12 hour summer soccer camp. Windows Hello makes it possible to just pull it out of the bag and its ready almost as soon as I flip open the lid. The only thing I would have done different would have been to order it with 5g capability. This laptop last way longer than my iPhone XS Max that I am tethering to for internet.

Before getting this T480s, I had an X131e which I purchased for use in school and it served me well, I still use it as a network server. When you're buying a ThinkPad, you're buying a quality business laptop that is may be overkill for some, for those who know what they're buying, here are some of the reasons why I purchased this laptop. 1. Keyboard and TrackPoint - the keyboards on ThinkPads are known for their excellent key travel despite fitting in a small size, and I enjoy using the TrackPoint (on the X131e, the horrible trackpad forced me to use the TrackPoint, but on the T480s, where the trackpad is way better, the TrackPoint is still nice to use. 2. Connectivity - Unfortunately, this is something that is being lost with the new T490 series and most of the other laptops on the market. This is a main reason why I purchased a ThinkPad as well. Ethernet, Full-size SD card reader, and a couple of full-size USB ports. You need a dongle for Ethernet, even on the X1 Extreme. And the X1 Carbon only has a micro-SD card slot. 3. All this while still maintaining a small form factor. Shoutout to r/ThinkPad for help choosing this laptop over newer options. I did come into some trouble with this laptop when I first received it, it had a glaring stuck pixel in the center of the screen, but the service depot repaired and returned the laptop promptly, free of charge since it was a day-old laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing laptop experience Bought laptop from thinkpad, which are known for its reliability/durability. First, the screen was disappointing at first place when I got it. Brightness was of course low since it was 250 nit touchscreen display, colors were way off also with couple dead pixels. After all that, I still used almost a year and a half, and now I'm getting some serious image retentions on my screen that just captures whole top part of my chrome search bar if I use chrome for more than 5 minute, and have to turn off my screen more than 5 minute to remove that. And last, it might just be caused by the way I use a laptop, but the battery life is almost already at 80%, which was never issue on my other laptops. Never had battery issues on my other laptops for 3+ years, but already feeling and seeing the battery life is going worse. The only reason that I bought this machine was to get a good keyboard and spend good 4~5 years on it without any problem. Besides the keyboard nothing was that complimentary on this laptop for me. Nice keyboard though!

A laptop heavy enough to defend off the encroaching hoards. But you know what, this is pretty good too. The build quality is solid. And the keyboard feels about as good as you can expect out of a laptop keyboard. It'd nice and ridged without noticeable deck flex. The only minor issue is instead of a button to turn off the mousepad, they put on a lenovo button which...is just useless. If I could remap the button to shut off the touchpad I could, but Lenovo...No one cares about the Lenovo Connect or whatever nonsense you mapped the key to. I get it, you want to advertise your brand, but just make it a toggle for the touchpad, but not enough an issue to take off a star.

The newer T490 sucks because it does not have upgradable RAM and does not have a SD card slot which totally sucks if you are a serious photographer. Three of our T480s laptops have touch screens which we love!!! Totally worth the extra money. We think the T480s is the most durable, reliable, best performing laptop Lenovo has ever built, and we use ours on a boat sailing around the world - a very challenging environment for a laptop! It is easy to DIY plug-in upgrade to 1 TB or 2TB Crucial SSD and 24 GB RAM if you buy a 8GB soldered RAM model with an empty RAM slot. We hope Lenovo continues to make this model because if they do we will continue to buy more of these for years to come.

The keyboard and mouse freeze up as if it is an old computer and we have wasted more time updating it and fussing with it to get it to work than I would care to admit. I mostly use it for writing so I don't have high cpu demands, but I need a long lasting battery and dependable functionality. So far, this laptop has delivered. It is fast, the chassis is streamlined and light, the keyboard and touchpad/pointer are intuitive and efficiently placed. I can switch the keyboard from English to Spanish easily (I know this is an OS setting more than a computer function, but I'm talking about the ease of changing I/O settings through the keyboard. This is a touchscreen too, so it is nice to have that option sometimes. It powers up fast. I got the basic i5core, 8 Gb RAM with 256 Gb storage and it is more than enough for me for now. I got this at a great price and the Lenovo customer support was really helpful answering any of my questions. They gave me a quote that was good for 3 days which made it easier to make a decision on purchasing this computer. Good purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good machine but I got a lemon. I believe I just got a lemon. Bad luck I suppose. My system wouldn’t turn on if it wasn’t plugged in. Once plugged in it would boot and run like a dream, and you could even unplug it and use it. There must have been a short in the board preventing the power button from working if using battery power. The machine was great once up, and Lenovo was good about the return, as they always are - but unfortunately I was short on time and needed a new system ASAP so I couldn’t wait for a replacement.

I needed a strong computer for processing data without slowing down other features and this one has not disappointing. The screen resolution is not the very best, the colors are very muted and a bit dark. The built in camera performs about the same. Even with bright lights its very grainy so don't expect much there.

At 250nits the matte display is generally fine, but sometimes I like to dial up the brightness for whatever reason. 350-400 would have been perfect. But when on sale, this unit is a great great VALUE for the quality, durability and usability that it provides. The T4x0s line is the slimmer version of T4x0 line and is the perfect balance between portability and Thinkpad flexibility/upgradeability. I bought an x1 Carbon last year and even though it was a half pound lighter, I did not like it as much because I could not upgrade the components myself and therefore had to order the unit with higher end components for which Lenovo charges a hefty premium. Get the T480s or T490s folks. It's the quintessential Thinkpad.
