Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. Design could be better. I will start with functionality. There was no issue in this department at all. It works natively. No installation of any kind. I wish the design was different. I would have preferred it being rechargeable instead of a AAAA. An extra tip would have been nice. Not even sure if the tip is replaceable as the instructions were terrible. It was a little expensive if this is a throw away device. I might have done further research of other devices if I had known any USI device would have been compatible.

It's so easy anyone can use it because you literally don't have to do anything except pick it up and start drawing. The only annoying thing was the tag inside where the batteries go. It would have been nice if there we're instructions because I didn't know if it was supposed to be removed or not and it was really stuck in there. I had to Google a YouTube video and the guy actually popped the spring out trying to remove the tag from his. There's just no point putting it in there and making it so hard to remove that you risk breaking the pen. But that's my only complaint. Hopefully the batteries will last a long time . My daughter is going to love it. I bought her a samsung laptop then realized it wouldn't work for drawing so I ended up returning it and buying the Chrome tablet 10e and this stylus. So far, no regrets other than it did take over 2 months to get the stylus. It said it would ship in 1-2 days but it was 7 weeks and way after Christmas so I had to buy a cheap stylus to hold her over until this one finally arrived in mid/late January. I bought it on Nov 26

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Customer support Pen is OK but support is not good. I thought I had a problem with the pen on my chrome tablet and google chrome. On screen keyboard hung up after writing in a google search with the pen. It worked one time and then I had to power off the tablet and restart for it to work one time again. After waiting almost a day, Lenovo tech support finally called back and determined that it was a software problem. The Rep then advised me that he would give me the phone number of the software support so that I could call them. What ever happened to seamless support. He should have had them call me. Obviously Lenovo wasn't too concerned about getting my problem resolved.

It’s very comfortable to hold and the way I can clip it onto my chrome book is very convenient. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes to draw on the go, take handwritten notes, and even if it’s just for fun, it’s worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USI Pen Performance on Chromebook Have used pen a total of 4 days now and so far it’s amazing! I use a chromebook 314x (I think lol) touchscreen laptop and this pen works so well, which I was super happy with because there was a chance it might be incompatible with some google devices. On note taking apps that use it the touch sensitivity for pressure is great and I can go from a thin to a thick line with ease. The only issue I’ve found is that there’s no on button or way to tell if the pen is on via some light. It’s not too big of a deal but sometimes when it hasn’t been used in a minute the pen will turn off takes about 3-5 seconds to work again after touching screen. Additionally the pen clip is super fragile it seems and bendy so I’m afraid to break it. It also doesn’t work on cell phones (or at least not iPhone 11 or galaxy s10E) but I don’t really mind because I got it specifically for my laptop.

However, if took close to six weeks to arrive, even when I had ShopRunner two day shipping upon ordering. Throughout that time, I never once received any word from Lenovo, but had to call weekly to check on status, and kept getting different reasons nad dates for the further delays and the like.

I would have liked to have some spare nibs included, but I am hopeful that the one that is already attached to the pen will last for quite some time. (Applying a lot of pressure to a tablet’s glass isn’t necessary in order for marks to appear.)

I'm able to take notes legibly and accurately, which is primarily why I bought this USI pen. I still need to figure out the sensitivity settings in my Chromebook, but I'm VERY happy with this purchase!

The stylus itself seems to want to "fall asleep" and not wake up. I find I have to disconnect the battery frequently to get the stylus to start working again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed Pen is too sensitive, starts marking the page from an inch away, impossible to draw or write neatly with. Also took almost a month and a half to be delivered. I'm likely going to have to buy a different brand pen if the sensitivity can't be corrected, it's extremely annoying the pen doesn't work correctly on arrival and I have to waste time trying to adjust it. Also, there's no instructions on how to adjust or fix the pen so have to look at reddit for suggestions. Not awesome.

The goal was to write notes with my students during class since our whiteboards are antiques & are barely erasable at this point. The stylus worked great...for about a month. It started writing before even touching the screen (sometimes even 1/2 an inch away). Now, it takes me nearly twice as long to get things written in a *somewhat* legible manner. More often than not, my students have to ask me to decipher what's written. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it (even consulting the Lenovo support guide) to no avail. It's just a major letdown.

I don't use the Duet often, much less with this pen, so I was surprised when I had to replace the battery after only a few months of use (by use, that mostly means sitting on the shelf). I haven't used it in a few months but decided to pick it up again today. Surprise surprise, it appeared dead. Luckily, this time, the old "remove the battery and put it back in" trick woke up the pen. However, now it is registering as touching the screen when it's hovering above the screen, which makes it unusable. I had hope that this pen would be a nice, budget-friendly addition to my Duet, but I was mistaken. Off to look for something rechargeable (this is the only thing I've encountered that uses AAAA batteries) and more reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hmm... Bought this for my lenovo chromebook. Pen is sleek and feels nice to write with. BIG issue is that it registers the pen a couple a centimetres away from the screen. Makes it incredibly difficult to write neatly and is incredibly frustrating. My notes look sloppy.

It writes from about 5 mm away from my tablet which makes it leave behind little lines when drawing and clicks when just trying to use it. Finding any info on how to get it fixed/replaced is impossible, don't waste your money on this thing, you'd be better off just using your finger.

I was inspired to experiment with the many options the drawing mode can do. I studied the tutorial video and will refer back to it often. I have a design background and have changed my careers over the years, the concepts app is easy to use and hopefully will motivate me to get back into my creative background.

It's comfortable to use and the little clip works well. It would be nice if it was pressure reactive and I've had a hard time getting the little pen holder that goes with the Lenovo cover (still don't have it yet).

Can get it to Mostly work with Squid, but anything else is just useless as it start writing before it even touches the screen. My finger works better and I didn't have to drop extra $$$ for that. Can't recommend, and really can't believe these reviews on here. Quick look online and this appears to be a common issues with this pen and the Duet as I have. I'll see about a return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Works Honestly? Its a pretty good pen! It isn't too heavy. It feels really solid and well made. I bought it to use it with the equally fantastic Lenovo Duet and it works like a charm. The lag is noticeable but it isn't so much as for it to bother most people that use this for casual writing or signing documents. I can only speak for the duet. Your mileage may vary with other devices. The color is a very nice modern gray with a nice sheen to it. And you can even hook it to you jeans or a backpack like a regular pen. Its battery operated AAA. Single battery. So if you have a rechargeable one you should be even better. Pressure apps work good. One that I tried is Google Canvas and it worked just fine. If you are looking for an inexpensive USI pen. This is it!

The pen kept writing even though it was not touching the surface. Seems like this should be fixed given both are Lenovo products and another brand USI stylus works perfectly.

However, it has one huge bug - it registers a touch even when the tip of the pen is a quarter to a half an inch away from the screen, making it basically useless for handwriting on the screen.

After fiddling with it.....unscrewing the cap, taking the battery out and back in....I did manage to get it working. I figured all was well. I went to use it a few days later and it did not work at all. Researching I found others with similar issues and decided to buy a new AAAA battery. That didn't work. I've spent most of the day trying to navigate through Lenovo's customer and technical support but it's somewhat convoluted. Trying to get hold of Sales for return on my purchase. Very disappointed.

Writes fine, there are some delays (tried on google keep) but not so much unless you really stare hard at it. From my experience also had palm rejection (but may depend on the app). I just wish it at least came with an extra tip as a just in case.

I didn't expect a $40 active pen to be much, but the latency and pressure sensitivity are on point. This pen has made it MUCH easier for me to do virtual assignments that I previously had to write on paper and then submit digitally. Overall, couldn't have asked for more and I hope more manufacturers adopt the USI standard.

It was easy to use, felt great in my hand and the sensitivity was perfect. However, after the first week I started experiencing some issues with oversensitivity, the pen would start writing when it was 1 cm away from the screen and that made it unusable. Taking the battery out and putting it back in seemed to solve the issue temporarily (2 hours max), but then the problem would happen again. I looked online and a lot of people who bought this product are experiencing the issue with no clear solution. I bought two new batteries and the issue was the same. I would be returning this product as I am highly unpleased with its performance. I cannot use it for anything now, the issue is even worse, and replacing the battery does not help any more.

Once it's powered up, it works just as you expect - a pen to write directly on the screen. It has considerably higher resolution then using the normal touchscreen interface to the point that my handwriting actually looks like my handwriting (awful as it is) on the screen. I'm removing one star as the tiny tiny spring which is inside to hold the batteries in contact popped out when I removed the plastic tab the device came in when shipped. However I was able to put it back in and the pen works fine.

It will take a couple of seconds to be recognized when I touch the Duet's screen. I like the AAAA battery because it will theoretically work longer than using a rechargable battery. But there is no way to attach the pen to the Duet, and the thin plastic pen clip is so flimsy and weak you will want to tape it to the pen to prevent breakage. Also, no additional tips must mean you will need to buy a new pen when the nub wears. I'd bump up the review if the pen had a sturdy clip and extra tips, but I guess this is all one can expect in tech for $40 these days.

Also, I hope the software side will get more improvements (e.g. better palm rejection, sensitivity control) although that might not be a problem with the pen. However, this is probably the best USI pen for my Duet right now.

Loses a star only because removing the protective tab from the battery caused the spring on the inside to pop out. I could put it back in loosely and the pen works, but I chose to invest the extra time and energy to really secure the spring back in properly. Overall good product though, further increases the functionality of the Chromebook Duet.

As for functionality, It does work well with my Duet, and is very helpful when I'm using it in tablet mode. I don't really know how it stacks up with other pens as this is my first pen overall, but I would say if using casually, as I do, that it's a fine pick up.

There is a piece of tag that is inside that when you pull on it to remove it, it will rip off the spring that’s inside for the battery. Was looking for that piece for half a day and never found it. Stay away from this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a USI pen for my HP Chromebook! I bought a chromebook with USI compatibility this summer but quickly discovered there were no USI pens actually available to buy yet. The Lenevo USI pen finally became available recently and I can happily say it works with my HP chromebook. There is no pairing required, I just started using it out of the box, no fuss what-so-ever. There is a slight, 1-2 millisecond lag between pen input and the screen response, but it's only at all obvious when using it for drawing. I have not spent a lot of time with it, but so far it seems to do all that I expected of it.

There is now way to draw with out it looking like you poured ink on a specific spot first. Do not buy, complete waste of money. There is no remedy for the busted software.

For example, I prefer a bit finer tip ...the tip on this stylus is very large. I also prefer to have a stylus with a bit more weight to it....this stylus just feels too light for me. As I said, these are purely subjective observations. My biggest issue is that the stylus stopped working in the middle of a session for no apparent reason. The only way I could as able to bring it back to life was to remove and replace the battery. I guest this reset the active circuits. I had to do this quite a few times over my first few days of ownership. Unfortunately, this was a deal breaker for me so I returned the stylus for a refund.

I have watched multiple youtube reviews and different pens. When Lenovo finally announced they were releasing their own USI pen, I eagerly waiting the launch on the site. Much better than other pens but still not a GREAT experience. For simple written notes - it is fine. For long detailed notes - not the best. Had difficulty scrolling with it at times. I am sure they will get better. Definitely a huge step in the right direction but some refinement still needed.

It's a good complement to my Chromebook Duo, although I wish there was a better way to store it with or attach it to the tablet. When drawing a straight line the pen does not draw a complete line, instead, it appears broken and dashed. This has happened once in a while since I received my product but it is now every time I use it. I cannot write without the pen cutting out and me having to go back and fix my notes. If this is caused by a dead battery, then I am disappointed in how short the battery lasts and confused why Lenovo did not use a rechargeable battery instead.

The ability to use any stylus is a great thing for consumers and the Lenovo USI Pen does not disappoint, it goes great along with my Lenovo Chromebook Duet; my only complaint is not having a place to store the pen after use, but an aftermarket strap holder for styli is the best suitable option for now, until a deticated stylus slot is made for the Duet however this is unrelated to the Lenovo USI Pen and it's quality so this issue is not reflected in my review whatsoever, only a slight gripe. Overall, it's a great purchase and I would recommend it to everyone with a Lenovo Chromebook Duet or any other USI compatible device, as it complements my Duet well and it makes it more enjoyable to use.

However, the plam rejection is still way spotty. 100% needs to be improved. I don't use my pen to write with on my duet, I just use it instead of my fingers for touch screen interaction like pressing buttons when I'm working on my desk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bare Bones Pen This is a bare bones USI Pen. It has no buttons and no replaceable tips. Also, the supplied tip seems a little too chunky. A smaller tip would definitely be better. However, the Duet did automatically recognize the pen and it appears to be working properly.

Initially, with a fresh battery, I was getting phantom marks when the pen came close to the screen (1-2mm. The next morning, it worked fine, likely due to some battery drainage. I used amazon basics AAAA batteries. Have not used it enough to find out longevity. So far, about 2 weeks of occasional light use primarily for jamboard annotations (grading and presenting).

However, the nib tends to wear out quickly, and I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of any buttons on the barrel for easier selection and erasing in note taking apps. Overall, a solid product that delivers on what it says it does.

It works wonderfully and it's magnetized so you can store it right on your tablet. No skipping and very smooth.

This one works as well as any. It feels good in the hand for taking notes. It was less expensive than other USI pens. And so far it's one of the few USI pens available. I like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lenovo's USI Pen is a winner and a god send! I ordered this pen for my ChromeBook as this is a rare format and hard to find. I'm glad Lenovo came out with this. It works great. Good response and line quality. I only gave it 4 stars due to it not having an on-off switch, which would have been nice (for saving battery usage). Also, I didn't see anything about being able to change the "nib" if it wore out. Otherwise, I'm really satisfied with the pen. It's similar to Wacom's Bambo Ink Plus, but in USI format (which Wacom's isn't) and a lot cheaper.

Interestingly the magnets on the back of the Lenovo Duet chromebook/tablet hold it well. Drawing us a pleasure, pressure controlled width of the line well and you quickly get the feel for using it. Drawing seems incredibly precise. Curves look neater thank with an ink pen. Usi h it as a selection device works well, also intuitive. Wish it took an AAA battery AAAA it more rare, but other than that no complaints. This is a USI pen. Make sure your device supports it.

The pen worked really well, but after 2 weeks of use the pen broke. The cone shaped portion of the pen separated from the barrel and looking at the parts, it appears that the pen tip (including plastic cone and the circuit board holder was glue to the barrel. Instead of designing the part to screw into the barrel, it is held together with glue. So naturally it didn't hold together for very long and separated after 2 weeks.

The responsiveness is adequate for note taking and sketching. USI pens are a relatively new standard so I expect the experience to improve over time with software improvements. Also, I might use a Wacom tablet and pen if you want to do some serious drawing, but it serves my needs perfectly. I currently use it with my Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook. Would buy again.

I was worried where I would put the pen but with the magnetic backing it attaches to the lid where you can easily grab it. The first day I opened a sketch app and spend hours playing with it. It worked very well and will use it to help me transition my written thoughts to digital!

Some apps unfortunately will not support this pen as they only support pens from specific companies, such as Samsung, which is not the fault of this pen, but something to consider if purchasing to use for specific programs.

AAAA batteries are a bit obscure. The battery that came in the box only lasted a few weeks. I do appreciate that a rechargeable battery would raise the cost quite a bit.

I never have to worry i if my daughter is going to break it if we give it to her to color with. It's nice to use to navigate apps, and of course to draw with. After a while, the sensitivity of the signal becomes high and marks start appearing on the screen without making physical contact with the screen. This ruins the writing experience because you're unable to lift the pen to start new words, write punctuations or cross Ts and dot Is; it makes your writing unintelligible. If I can't find a fix I'll return this product.

It is very comfortable and very responsive the tip glides across the screen. HOWEVER.. the after several minutes of use and it varies with use the pen will keep writing on the screen when i lift it off the screen say to write another letter character. This issue happens almost every time i use it. It's really annoying especially when drawing as the only way i can get it to stop writing is to lift it more than 2 inches off the screen. I have to either restart the tablet or remove the battery from the pen to get it to reset and work properly. I don´t know if this is a pen or tablet issue.

Not sure if it was just a dead battery on arrival, although it uses a AAAA (yes, 4A's, no clue where to get a replacement). Lenovo promptly sent a Return label, and within 24 hrs of their receipt of return issued my refund.

You have to be very deliberate with your pen strokes which makes it very hard to write. But because it is super sensitive it does what you need from a touch and activate stand point.

It is made of aluminum and has a heft to it which may be a pro or con depending on your taste. I prefer a stylus that is lightweight as it decreases strain and prevents callus build up on the fingers e.g. S7+ stylus. This pen also lacks an additional button for advanced functions.

The pen is active above the surface of the touch screen and sometimes you cannot hit the correct tabs or buttons. Also is hard to write as it starts writing before you touch the screen. It does not resemble regular ball pen writing. You have to hold it vertically and actually not touching the screen for best results, somehow awkward. There is no software to control sensitivity or additional features for the pen. It is okay product to play with it or draw a picture but not for serious production or office work.

If you pull out the paper inside the pen thinking it is there to break the connection of the battery like it would be for most products you will dislodge a spring and if you lose it then you have a nice 40 dollar paper weight, that really can't weigh down papers well.

The technology is in it's infancy, but nearly all mid to upper end Chromebooks will now support this new standard. I am sure Lenovo's main goal was to get the pen out for it's own devices (particularly the Chromebook Duet - which I own as well!), but I can verify that it works perfectly on the Acer Spin 713 as well. Both great devices in their own right!

Disclaimer, it's my first active stylus of any kind so can only compare it to passive devices. The Lenovo USI Pen has a great design. The weight, balance and feel are excellent. The metal shaft makes writing with it feel very natural. The performance on my Lenovo Chromebook Duet is adequate. There are times when the feedback lags especially while the keyboard is attached. But, like the magnet placement locations, that's a review about the Duet rather than the Pen. Overall, very satisfied with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too sensitive on Duet, "ink" shows up 2cm (0.75") When using with the Lenovo duet, the "ink" shows up 2cm (0.75") before you touch the surface of the screen, making it basically useless to me. It became a bit of a game to try and use it to do something, since you were writing "in the air"... The over build quality is very good, and I think it may work for others, or maybe it will work if I let the battery run down? (Who has time for that??) So for me, not happy I made this purchase. I used it for a few hours over several days, and then gave up. Based on other reviews, your mileage may vary -- works fine for some.

I have been trying to access support for a couple weeks but none of the online options are working since the part number does not come up with anything on the support page. I like Lenovo but I am very unimpressed by their support. I need my pen to be fixed.

First thing--spring goes falling. A little spring. On a cream carpet. In the evening. Nope. Can't find it. Finally did, but it will not stay in place. So not sure if the stylus is not working because it's broke or it doesn't work on all ChromeOS devices. Which is what they said. Small design. No buttons. Avoid this. Wait for more to come out.

One minor issue when first unboxing is when pulling out the plastic tab to enable the battery connection, the spring popped out of the pen and I didn't notice it until the pen wasn't functioning, then and I saw the spring on the ground. Make sure the spring doesn't pop out when first enabling the battery. Other then that, great pen functionality with the tablet!

The price is right! It has a big, comfortable barrel, unlike many pens designed to slide into a device. I wish the Duet had a way to attach the pen, maybe a fabric loop in the keyboard case? Lenovo should make it easier to find the correct pen; Duet website just says "compatible with a stylus," but Lenovo sells umpteen kinds of pens. First pen we got was DOA, so it took a few weeks before we could enjoy it.

I do with the pen clip was metal, but the plastic seems sturdy enough. I hope the battery lasts as long as they claim. It's a AAAA battery so I'll have to get those specifically for this pen. I'm glad I didn't try to find an off-brand to see if it would work with my Chromebook. This is my first stylus of this type so I wasn't sure what to expect but overall, I'm really happy with this USI pen.

I like using the pen as much as I can instead of my finger, saves a lot on smudges to the screen. I also like you can use the pen to just write back your text responses instead of using the virtual keyboard as you can truly respond using one hand.

I wouldn't call it usable. It registers the touch before I even touch the screen with the pen. I can hover the pen about 5 millimetres above the screen and it will think I'm touching the screen. Needless to say, you can't take handwritten notes like this. I'm really disappointed.

It registers the pen before I even touch the screen, so writing and drawing is difficult as lifting the pen on strokes still produces lines on the screen. On the home screen, the pen almost never opens up apps when I tap on them. It is far too finnicky and I am displeased with the performance.

I liked the pen, as it worked well with my Lenovo Duet (maybe a little too sensitive; it registered touch about 1 cm above the screen), felt good in the hand, and was more affordable than other USI pens. But now it's a paperweight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice pen for handwriting notes The pen works well, for example with Squid, but the software on Chromebook Duo seems to be a bit too sensitive, and the pen leaves tiny lines even before you actually touch the surface. You can see them in addition to the written text if you look very carefully. This issue could probably be addressed by Lenovo or Google with a software update.

I have now had this stylus for a few months, it was fine at first, more I used it, the less it wrote when it was hovering over the tablet, but now it's just a useless stick. I've replaced the battery, I've spoken nicely to it, I've yelled at it... it's just garbage. I can't actually find troubleshooting for it on this website. If I try to contact Lenovo it doesn't recognize the product so I can't get help. I'm annoyed and wish I had a product that actually worked.

But, now it does not work at all on my lenovo laptop, or on my google duet (both of which it used to work PERFECTLY fine on.) Now, the pen will connect to both devices, but if I go to use it, it no longer works. I am extremely disappointed because I actually loved this product so much, and now it is useless. It simply does not work anymore! I don't know what to do, I've seen people get it replaced and it works perfectly fine, but I don't know how to go about doing that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as advertised This Pen was listed on the site as simply Lenovo USI Pen as seen in the image, then over the last 2 months it has been changed to the new name but notice the Part number: 4X80Z49662 is the same. I contacted Customer Support no one could help, I was told I'd be contacted, I never was contacted, I followed up again and now they say I've exceeded the return time. Please save your money this is not compatible with most chromebooks as advertised. It probably should not be called USI since that was the standard for universal compatibility.

It's precise to write with, but it takes a little getting use to the disconnect between the broad nib and the finer result on the screen. It's less expensive than the other option I found although it's shipping was longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the pen! I was initially a little bit hesitant due to the fact that the pen was not marketed with the tablet or sold at my place of purchase. Some independent research led me to discover it and I'm so glad I did. It's just as good if not better than the pen on my surface pro and comes in clutch on a daily basis. It's responsive, accurate and fast- the perfect complement to my duet.
