McAfee SpamKiller for Lotus Domino delivers rules-based, industry leading anti-spam detection for Lotus Domino 5.0 and 6.0 servers. With 5-levels of spam protection, optimized by a scoring system, SpamKiller delivers 95% accuracy right out of the box. Once spam has been identified, e-mail can be quarantined to a server-based junk mail folder, or into the user's junk mail folder. End user personalization, and tiered routing are included to ensure low false-positive and false negative detection rates.

The anti-spam engine applies the anti-spam rules to each e-mail message it scans. Each part of the message - its structure, content, and delivery path - is analyzed and points are allocated based on what the software finds. Each rule is associated with a score and if a rule is triggered a score is assigned to the e-mail message. SpamKiller software then adds together the scores from every rule that is triggered to get an overall score for that e-mail message. In addition to the score assigned to the message by rules being triggered, when a message arrives that contains an address included in the blacklist, it has positive points added to its score. When a message arrives that contains an address included in the whitelist, it has negative points added to its score.

The higher the overall score, the higher the probability that the e-mail message contains spam. Each e-mail message can be classified according to its overall score, and can have a low, medium, or high likelihood of containing spam. When scanning is complete, the total score assigned to the message determines what happens to it next, according to how you have configured SpamKiller. The message can be marked and forwarded to the recipient's mail file, the message may be quarantined, or it may be destroyed.

A false positive occurs when a message is incorrectly identified as spam. A false negative occurs when an e-mail message containing spam is not identified.
