I have the space gray MacBook and wanted a clear speck case similar to the clear speck phone case. It was not the same. The case is protective but simply fits on the laptop it's not secured well. The bottom piece occasionally pops off the laptop on one corner or side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Color, Not So Good Fit I've had a Speck Cover for all my MacBook Pro laptops since 2011. I've been super happy with the design, fitment, durability and quality of Speck cases as there is always great attention to detail with these products. I have come to rely on them! However, this new SmartShell for my 2016 MBP 15" just doesn't feel right. The edge clips on both top and bottom fit okay, but I've noticed my lid doesn't close 100% like my previous models. Also, the onyx black plastic model I'm reviewing is not snug fitting; the bottom and especially the top lid bubbles in the middle thereby not giving a snug fit. When handled it feels like I'm squeezing the plastic every time. In fact, when I do go mobile and carry the MBP the case feels like it will pop off. I'm going to use it for a week or so and see if the plastic settles down on the MBP, but at this time it feels like there is definitely a manufacturing molding issue with the precision of how its supposed to fit nice, snug, and tight against the body of the MBP completely! I hope Speck PM team listens to this feedback and makes adjustments. I just cannot live without a good case cover for my MacBook Pro! At this time I cannot comfortably recommend this case for the reasons of fitment and expectation of quality I'm accustomed to from Speck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as good as my previous Speck I was excited to order this case and disappointed when it arrived. I had a Speck case on my previous laptop, but this is not like it at all. It is not rubbery like the other case. It can easily slip from my hands, as easily as the computer would without a case. It is too smooth and has no grip to it at all. The raised feet don't have a grip to them, either. The feet on my previous Speck case prevented the computer from sliding around a table, these do NOTHING at all. The only thing this case is doing is protecting the computer from scratches- at least I hope it is doing that. I credit my last Speck with saving my MBP from breaking when it was dropped two times from table height. I can pretty much guarantee this would be worthless protection in a drop....and since it seems to have changed the weighting of this ultra-light computer, may even make it more prone to drops from my hands, especially with how slick it is. The only reason I am not returning this thing is that there is a pathetic lack of options on the market for the new 2016 MBP case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The fit is so very poor it is shocking! I read a number of reviews for this case on this Website before purchasing. I have had a number of other cases for my MacBook Pro previously and had no issues. I figured that Speck would have ironed out any of the concerns reported so I ordered. Sadly, the issue with fit remains and I am shocked that Speck can put their name to this product. It just does not fit the MacBook Pro at all - the case feels and looks 'loose' and is in no way up to the usual; Speck quality - my advice? Avoid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long time Speck customer - very disappointed I was very disappointed with the quality of this cover in comparison to other Speck covers I've used (and continue to use). I've had multiple Speck covers for different MacBook pros and iPhones over the years (dating back to 2011) and have always been pleased. This one is by far the worst of the bunch. Most importantly, there is a large cavity between the cover and the surface of the MacBook (at least a couple mm). Therefore, the cover adds more bulk than it should and feels sloppy. There is also some deformation in the plastic (not a significant problem at all, but yields some poor aesthetics). I gave 2 stars because the cover still protects the MacBook, and hasn't fallen off. Beyond that I don't have much of anything positive to say about the cover.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice case with only minor complaints I really enjoy the slim fit of the case. It doesn't add too much bulk but at the same time offers protection. I also love the finish of the material itself (nice matte texture). I only have a few complaints with the product. First, the clear option isn't actually clear. It's more of a frosted, matte clear. While I actually don't mind the look of it with my space grey Mac, it was not what I had intended on purchasing. There are also some minor areas where the case does not clip to the Mac all the way, but I think it is a manufacturing issue instead of a design issue. It is barely noticeable and I do not think it compromises the case in anyway. It still seems like a sturdy fit and I don't believe it will fall off.

Being in the high end of the price range of MacBook Pro cases I was surprised to find it to break so easily.

I was disappointed the front cover arrived scratched due to the odd packaging for this case. Speck ships these covers in a box that has a front side cut open so you can see/feel the color of the case, but this type of packing resulted in small scratches. I didn't bother contacting customer service because there was a high chance the replacement was going to come the same way. Product: I noticed when I open my Macbook from time to time, the top cover tends to pop off. It's frustrating because I have to pop it back into place at times and I worry the clips that hold the top of the MacBook might break off. The bottom cover stays in place without any issues. Final thoughts: I am happy with the product overall. It's light and thin enough to be able to insert into a laptop sleeve I own.

The cover on all of them seemed to fit loose on the top, a little space between the cover and laptop. Still worked fine, did what you wanted the cover to do. I am used to Speck fitting very tight on my phone. So maybe this is designed this way for a reason. Just not used to that from Speck. A long time ago I bought a cover for my phone from a competitor, which broke in a month. Happen to pick a speck case on clearance OMG never looked back. I have used Speck cases on anything I buy that they make a case for. I wish they had some colors for the laptops like their phone covers. That would be cool, hint hint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get smart. Get a Speck case for your MacBook Pro. I have bought several Speck cases for the MacBook Pro Retina (2012) and the MacBook Pro Retina with Touchbar computers. They are great, and considering how much a computer costs, the investment is worth it. Sometimes the cases chip, in particular the back corners of the bottom shell, but this happens more for the MacBook Pros from 2012 and less with the MacBooks Pros from 2016 and later. But every time I have felt that the Speck case was damaged, I have taken a photo, emailed Speck, and they ship me a replacement, for free, no questions asked. Get smart and use these cases to protect your Mac.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't Fit Properly Never had any issues with Speck products before, but this case was clearly rushed to market. The upper part of the case did not fit snugly at all, and had a centimeter of play in the case (almost like a bubble) between the actual laptop and the case that you could push down on the case and still not feel the laptop. Similarly the bottom of the case was way to easy to slide on and off. The clips served almost no purpose. My Onyx also had uneven coloring. When observed under overhead light there was mottling and other strange patterns in the plastic. I will be returning for a refund.

The shell doe not sit well into the case so the laptop does not close well. I have had the case for less than a year and it is already cracked along both sides where the cables connect due to not seating well into the case. I do not recommend this case

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speck is the way to go Had a Speck on my first Macbook Pro for 8 years. It went on many oversea vacations and a military deployment. It held up great and never cracked or broke. I bought a new Pro and another name brand shell which lasted about 2-3 months before it cracked, broke and needed to be replaced. Got a new Speck, put it on and could already tell the quality is way better. I feel like this should last the life of my new Pro without being replaced. Sorry I cheated on you Speck, I will never buy another brand again!

I have been using Speck cases for my MacBooks for years and even have one on my wife's 13" 2016 MBP with touch bar. The 15" case, however, does not fit the computer snugly like every Speck case I have owned previously. There is a gap or "bubble" between the top and bottom "faces" of the MBP, which proved to be very annoying. Whenever I picked up the MBP with the case on it, there was noticeable give between the case and the laptop itself whereby the case kept "smacking" the laptop whenever I grasped or squeezed it. As also mentioned, the coloring of the onyx case was inconsistent through the entire case. I returned this case after having it for only a couple days. It just didn't fit and wasn't the quality I have come to expect from Speck, which was unfortunate.

When you press down the center of the top cover, you can feel that its not snug against the top lid. There is extra space. Kind of a drag. THis is my 4th case for a new MBP and this is the first time it fits poorly. If you guys make an adjustment please add me to the list for a replacement. I will use this one for now. Hope you fix it, I've always liked your cases.

It is such a reliable case that holds up so well and I always know that my laptop is protected with this case on it. I almost exclusively use Speck cases for all of my apple products and will continue to do so. The only reason I got a new one is because I was bored with my old, bright colored one and had been wanting a clear laptop case for a while.

Speck Products damaged me badly, took my money, sent the wrong product and deliberately. falsely advertised their products online. Now I have NO case for my MacBook and paid TWICE for one that fits. What did they do other than take my money and falsely advertise their products? Oh yes, they opened a trouble ticket, number 230721. Thanks a lot , Speck. A monster lawsuit is coming your way unless somebody in authority calls me back and gives me everything for free to start, then we can go to what I get for my massive trouble and their fake website they put up to deceive people.

How are you going to spend that much on a computer and not spend a little more to protect it? This is the third Speck case I have bought for a MacBook Pro. I do find that the rear corners of the back piece of the case are susceptible to snapping off, at least on the Speck case for my 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. The first time that happened to me, it may have been my fault. The second time I bought a case from Speck and the bottom rear corners snapped off, they replaced the case with no problem. Between the ability of the product to protect my computer, and the company's willingness to replace it, I did not think twice about buying a Speck case when I got a newer MacBook Pro (late-2016). I bought it directly from Speck. It's only been a few weeks, but no problems yet.

Unfortunately, the top part of the case that is placed on the back of the laptop screen did not fit snug. It appeared as tho the plastic was warped, and it didn't fit right. I take very well care of my laptop as it is expensive. I have never dropped the laptop in the case and rarely ever take the case off of my laptop.

The loose fit does not allow you to pick up the laptop without feeling like you about to drop it. The gray color is inconsistent. I contacted Speck about this quality control item and they clearly stated there was nothing they could do, and there was nothing they intended to do. They implied the problem was a MAC issue.

After reading some reviews was a bit skeptical about it, however I had a Speck Case for my old 2010 MBP 17" and it lasted/protected it for over 8 years. The computer died last month but the case was still in great shape. After receiving this new case I am again very impressed with it. It fits perfectly, and I have access to all my ports.

I am giving it 4 stars because like others have said about the smartshell, it does bubble slightly on the top portion; however, it's so trivial that it does not bother me personally, knowing that my laptop is safe having the case on.

Speck SmartShell is amazing quality, secure, and still thin enough to keep my laptop from feeling bulky. The color is awesome! I have the same Speck case on my work laptop and I had to ask our IT guy what style case we use because I needed it for my personal one. So happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have purchased this product again and again! I have always had Speck cases on my Apple computers since the beginning (for me about 2007). The only time I have ever had anything happen is the new MBP I got in 2012 and had to travel to Atlanta with it because I had a new granddaughter coming. I got a tiny crease on it because Speck didn't make a case for it yet as it was a brand new product for Apple and I had probably gotten one of the first ones. This autumn I got another brand New MBP and left it sitting in my bedroom until I could get a new Speck case for it. I still use the 2012 model but am so happy when this case came because now I can start taking my NEW MBP with me when I go knowing it will be safe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The clear case is not as promised. It's a frosted case. The case fits good but I'm not happy with it overall. I ordered a clear case and when it arrived it is a frosted case. Via previous computer when I ordered a clear case I got a clear case. I have a beautiful MacBook Pro and I want to see the computer not a frosty case that always looks dirty it doesn't hold up well I feel that it is inferior to the last case I had from seven years ago. I was told that the clear case is a frosted case I don't have time to send it back I just want honesty when I'm ordering a product. I needed the case so I'm stuck with it.

The only reason why I'm not giving this 5 stars is because I wish there were more color options. The case fits my device and is strong enough to protect from minor drops and spills, but it isn't too thick to where it ruins the aesthetic of the laptop itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would not buy this product again. I love speck and have used their phone cases for years so I was excited to get a laptop case from them. But it was not good. It worked for a month but the bottom part eventually fell off. My laptop never experiences wear or tear because it never leaves my desk. I just wanted to case to prevent scratches, but this one is obviously not the one for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality brand, quality material, not a tight fit. I tried a Kuzy case and the laptop did not close properly. I knew the Speck would not have that problem. I had a Speck case on my 2012 MBP Retina for many years. The 3 stars is because, as others have bemoaned, the top cover gaps away from the laptop. It is true. For me, it's not a dealbreaker, and it almost gives a feeling of more shock absorption, but it is not a tight fit.

I have owned numerous specks shells for my macbooks and use to swear by them but now I've got nothing good to say about the latest Macbook 15" 2016 speck shell. I doesn't fit properly bottom line and would hope that they solve this problem before its to late.

There is a ton of "movement" on the top of the case when you press on it, which tells me that it is not a form-fitting piece of plastic. The bottom of the case also does not fit snuggly. It's pretty loose as well. It protects the computer, but it feels like it cheapens the Apple brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't buy this.. Last Speck SmartShell case I'll buy I'm writing this after Speck sent me another one on warranty replacement. Obviously their tolerances and build quality is lacking on this model now. The top lid doesn't fit flush, and the bottom gaps at the back and doesn't fit snug at the front. The clips on the bottom towards the screen don't even grip the base of the computer. I've always relied on Speck cases on many generations -- but I'm probably done with them. Also, the old matte finish used to be more tactile and grippy.. These are slippery to grab out of your bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little disappointing. Case does the basics well. It fits this MacBook Pro model and has the nice black shade I wanted. Unfortunately it has a little bit too much space between the case and the laptop. When holding it, it feels loose and is not a form fit, which is what I was hoping for. Also, although it does clip on and didn't fall off, when the laptop is closed the top portion and bottom portion seem to be fighting for space and can push each other off of the computer's edges, making it less reliable. This is one of the cheaper options I've seen for this model and my last Speck was great. But this one fell short. However if you need a fast case and are scared about nicks and scrapes, this will be passable.

Even though I ordered cases that advertised they were for this laptop there is a variance in the actual size. Speck was the only company that provided accurate measurements for my MacBook Pro. It fit like a glove, looks fantastic and I know my computer will be well protected. I can't thank you enough!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loose fit I alway like Speck smarts hell case, used it on my MBP 13" 2015 and its fitting perfectly till now, unfortunately the new one I just bought it yesterday for MBP 15" 2018 doesn't fit well and there is a gap between the shell and MBP body that you can feel it if you are holding it or even trying on open the lid (feels like the shell will go out and dissembled. I'm so disappointed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loose Fit I've had a Speck case on my MacBook for almost 10 years and never had an issue with fit until I bought this one. Like most people in the reviews have said, the top part of the case that fits onto the back of the screen has a gap between the computer and the case making the case feel loose and not sturdy. All the edges clip on tightly but the case bows outward towards the middle. For me its not a dealbreaker because I like the new slightly thicker design that seems like they fixed the issue with breakage of the corner clips, but I would like to see the gap issue fixed somehow! 3 stars because the new style of matte finish has made the case slippery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits new 2018 MacBook Pro 15" I recently bought a new 2018 MacBook Pro 15" laptop. I previously had a 2012 13" and had several Speck cases for it. So I knew I wanted a Speck case again, but definitely wanted a clear case to show the space grey color of the new laptop. Let me tell you, it's pretty dry out there to find a quality, clear laptop case for the new 2018 15". But this one fits great! Only downfall is it almost looks like more of a matte, so not completely transparent. Otherwise it's great!

I thought this would be much more clear but it is almost foggy and makes the laptop much bulkier than expected

They have all performed well and saved my body from scratches and the occasional bump. I would give this new one a five star rating, except it doesn't seem to fit across the top as tightly as all the others I've owned. Not a deal breaker, but feels odd that there is some play when applying pressure to the top instead of a second skin like on the bottom or my previous cases.

Feels like it's going to come loose, it can damage the edges because the constant rubbing against the edges of the MacBook every time is picked up. Hard to remove, too hard, it almost damaged my brand new MacBook when I did try to remove the top lid. Don't buy it, it's a wasted money. My previous Speck cases were awesome, but this time they didn't do it well. I hope Speck comes out with a better model. I'm returning mine, so upset that I almost damaged my brand new MacBook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Making a great product even greater Great quality cases! Perfect fit. SUGGESTION: For the new Macbook PRO there are only 4 ports / 2 USB-c ports each side. Speck should design a notched-out, break-away section on the bottom case portion near the ports that would accommodate the popular new elongated hubs (see photos) that convert 2 ports into 7. The connection requires an extended, elongated opening I notched my speck case out myself and it works perfectly with the side HUB attached. Without notching out the extra space the hub does not securely make a connection. Something for your engineers to consider. Now does that qualify me for your $1,000 prize?

Unfortunately having it on prevents the use of a Hyper Drive that connects with 2 C USB connectors. The alternate would be to take off the bottom portion to use it, but that is a pain. I download photos from a memory card frequently and the inability to use the Hyper Drive to do that is very disappointing. Think I'll go back to using the other cover.

Although when I entered the serial number on my old spek product that was nearly destroyed from protecting my equipment I was sent this one. An it doesn't even fit the laptop. Really disappointing opening gift on Christmas day to find out I was sent the wrong one. I might have gotten the correct one. I guess the search needs to be revised cuz old serial number items are not matching to the new stuff.

I know This was one of the first cass for the new MacBook, so maybe still not perfect. I had their shell for my old MacBook, it was awesome. Shell was not so plastic smooth feel, had a slight rubber texture. That one was the best.

I'm tough on my MabBook Pro - that's why I have the Speck SmartShell - it takes the beating and after a couple of years of use I refresh with a new one. The great thing is when I take off the old shell the MacBook looks like new!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best case on the market for a 2018 lMacBook Pro. I bought this for my 2018 15 inch Touch Bar MacBook Pro. It fits fine. The case is a very high quality TPR material. This is the best case for your MacBook, hands down. I have bought 2 spec cases my entire life. Once, 9 years ago for my 17-inch MacBook Pro, and now for my new one. The case will give its life for the MacBook. I dropped my old Mac from a podium onto my classroom floor. MacBook was fine. The drop cracked my spec case. I duct taped it and the spec case was fine for 5 more years. It's still protecting my old Mac. The minimalist design is great. The product is amazing. Don't go for the cheap knockoffs. Seriously, you spent a lot for that Mac, protect it with the Spec case. The case is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wish it was sized better the case is alright. every time i open my laptop a corner will pop off and i'll have to pop it back on, and the bottom piece doesn't fit snug at all. but on the plus side, it doesn't really smudge or scratch at all, and the color is pretty! more pink than red in person.
