APC by Schneider Electric is pleased to announce the Back-UPS Pro 500 (BG500), the industry's first network manageable, lithium-ion UPS. The BG500 protects essential electronics such as modems, wireless routers, voice-over IP phones, and computers from power outages, unsafe utility power levels, surges, spikes, and more. It has a sleek, new profile designed for the modern home or small office.

Power protection outlets keep electronics running during power outages and protected from unsafe utility power levels, spikes, surges, and electrical noise. All 4 outlets provide surge protection. Two are full-time battery backed-up. Two are Smart Outlets that can be individually configured with or without battery backup. Customizing battery backup per outlet allows users to provide valuable battery power only to outlets that need power during an outage, increasing the runtime for those outlets. The Smart Outlets are transformer block spaced, which means they protect equipment with input transformer blocks (oversized plugs) without blocking access to other outlets.

Highly manageable and intelligent outlets for use in a variety of scenarios.

Smart Outlets monitor and control energy usage to optimize power efficiency and reduce your energy costs and environmental impact. They can also be remotely managed to turn on / off, and reboot electronics as needed. Smart Outlet features include: Energy management - Smart Outlets save energy and money by automatically shutting down when the Master outlet is idle. This prevents complimentary electronics from consuming power when your computer or other master device is turned off, in sleep mode, or in hibernation mode. Master outlets reduce your power consumption and energy costs.

Watchdog - Detects when there is a loss of internet connectivity and reacts by rebooting networking equipment such as your modem and wireless router.

Remote UPS control - Remotely turn on, off or reboot individual Smart Outlets or the UPS via your web browser, enabling effortless maintenance and control of network equipment from any location.

Configurable Backup - Each Smart Outlet can be independently configured to be with or without battery backup. Battery backup protection can be turned on or off depending on the connected electronic device and user preference, allowing complete user customization and power control.

The BG500 offers the first lithium-ion battery for a network manageable UPS. Lasts up to 8 years, twice the service life as a typical UPS lead acid battery. Smaller and lighter than comparable lead acid batteries. 100% recyclable and more environmentally friendly than a lead acid battery. User-replaceable battery increases product availability by allowing for simple battery replacement (no tools necessary).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice UPSOur non profit organization needed to protect a variety of electronic devices throughout the main office and remote offices. Our phone system, medical equipment , security cameras, and computers needed backup power to run during power outages and to prevent damage due to electrical surges. We just could not mount a regular UPS with a heavy lead acid battery in all those locations. I called our IT support company, Network Doctor located in Englewood Cliffs NJ. THey provide excellent support for a fixed monthly fee to maintain our entire network and advise us on hardware and software solutions. They sold us a few of these but we keep finding more locations where we need them so I ordered more from CDW. Network Doctor also sells and supports VMWare, Microsoft and Citrix solutions for small businesses throughout the New York and New Jersey area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of hardwareI purchased the BG500 to backup my networking gear: 2 routers and a cable modem. Also, I wanted to have a UPS that I could cycle individual outlets and to be able to remotely manage configuration and operation from the WAN. So far, I've been pleased with the setup and performance. I have the BG500 networked and port forwarding turned on in my router so I can access the management software from the WAN. All working pretty good...and stable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very nice unit with caveatthis unit is great. the small form factor and good features (like built in network) make this a no-brainer for small devices that need protection.there is only ONE issue that I have with this unit that keeps it from truly being the perfect device:NO SNMP SUPPORTwhy?i monitor everything in the enterprise and this is the one APC product that does not have it, and i kind of hate it for that.the next version NEEDS to have this.
