Rated 4 out of 5 by We have saved massive drive space and shortened data transfer time to offsite due to the 8:1 ratio of the de-duplication and changed block tracking, but MS Exchange and SQL backups are a little slow. Valuable Features:* Centralized Management* De-Duplication* The ability to write to a 2nd backup location, including tape drive* The ability to mount SQL databases* The ability to stand up a VM from TIB file* Converting physical to Virtual and vise-versa* Boot and backup any volume regardless of OZ* Image or file recovery and database recovery including mailbox* Universal restoreThere are many more features, but those for the money are outstanding.Improvements to My Organization:We can backup all hosts and clusters. We have saved massive drive space and shortened data transfer time to offsite due to the 8:1 ratio of the de-duplication and changed block tracking. Recovery is easy and can be done by any of the help desk techs with very little training.Room for Improvement:MS Exchange and SQL backups are a little slow and odd to setup. But once setup they do work, including transaction logs.Use of Solution:I have used this solution for the past 5 years and it has never failed me.Deployment Issues:Issues with Exchange and SQL backups and deployment were not hard but not automatic.Stability Issues:None. Very Stable.Scalability Issues:None.Customer Service:Scale of 1-10, a solid 9!Technical Support:7Previous Solutions:Symantec Backup Exec. Throughput issues and support issues. No real VMware support that's helpful.Initial Setup:Very easy to setup.Implementation Team:In-house.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by Backup & Recovery Tool for System Administrators In any network and system environment, backup and recovery is one of the most crucial, critical and inevitably important and demanding task. There are two products (Norton Ghost & Acronis True Image) which are top of the line in terms of granularity and flexibility. Reliable and rapid recovery is one of the system administrators’ strong needs in deployed domains.I had used Norton Ghost v.9 quite for some time and the sole purpose for usage was client pc’s restoration in case of HDD failure caused by malfunction, viral activity or any other reason for system drive corruption. Though both Ghost and Acronis provide excellent recovery from scratch for partition recovery to full HDD and Logical Volume backup and restore for almost all Microsoft operating systems (MS Small Business Server, MS Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 and downstream to Windows Xp), moreover both support for Linux flavors like Ubuntu, Fedora and RHEL 6.As a regular user of Acronis True image now for windows domain which consist of 74 pc's, with identical hardware and software considerations I found the Acronis true image as an best solution for backup & recovery and optimum tool for any HDD cloning.(Domain Controller with Windows 2003 R2 64 bit operating system on it without any limitation).I found Acronis to be the best solution for following salient reasons:1. Acronis UI is simple and easy to understand for novice user as well as advance user .All important tasks focused on one page.2. True image is providing far more granular facilities like file and folder recovery.3. Acronis doesn’t require .NET framework 2.x as Norton Ghost.4. Acronis provides bootable support for Linux as compared to Norton Ghost and NovaStor Backup.5. Acronis provided unlimited number of backups and doesn’t limit.6. Network Drive backup is also supported for backup through Acronis True Image.7. Image size of Acronis is less than image created through Norton Ghost.8. Acronis keeps all of its incremental and full backups in Acronis Secure Zone which is inaccessible by malware, user interventions or any possible corruption of the image for backup. Secure zone is a propriety partition which is referred as ASZ only accessible by Acronis Backup and Recovery.9. Recovery disk can be created on almost any type of portable device i.e. USB memory stick, external HDD, Zip drive etc.Possible Cons:Help Support is far less than Norton Ghost.Domain Controller HDD image created through Acronis might pose problems like rejoining of the client pc to domain ,Reliability in case of Active directory partition, MS SQL Server, Exchange Server is doubtful.I am using Acronis bootable USB stick with image on it and almost saving 3 hrs. of manhours of our technical staff. One of other benefit which my Windows Domain gets is restoration of image on different hardware with Acronis Universal Restore.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 2 out of 5 by Almost eliminated our need for tape backup but error messages, logs, and reliability have room for improvement. Valuable Features:Backups of servers while they are running.Improvements to My Organization:Almost eliminated our need for tape backup.Room for Improvement:Error messages, logs, reliability.Use of Solution:5 years.Deployment Issues:Not during initial deployment but, most upgrades go poorly. Pushing the agent did not work. We had to install it manually on each server.Stability Issues:Yes, product has been very unstable since version 10 and all versions since then.Scalability Issues:No.Customer Service:Great.Technical Support:Average to poor.Previous Solutions:Switched away from tape backupsInitial Setup:Pushing the agent did not work. We had to install it manually on each server.Implementation Team:In-house.ROI:2 to 3 years.Cost and Licensing Advice:Not available at this time.Other Solutions Considered:We liked Acronis true image a lot, so we did not evaluate other vendors.Other Advice:Purchase Veeam, do not buy Acronis.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by Over the Network Backup needs improvement. Works very well with real-time backup of our database files server Valuable Features:Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows ServerImprovements to My Organization:We update our Vaccination Tracking System (VTS) software on a monthly basis with software patches and added features, with Acronis Backup & Recovery, it enables us to always revert to the initial state when we experience challenges with the test environment. Because of the numerous reports we get from our staff in the filed while using the VTS, ABR allows us to incrementally backup important changes as we continually try to fix compatibility issues with different scenarios. Works very well with real-time backup of our database files server when staff upload information captured from polio vaccination tracking.Room for Improvement:Over the Network BackupUse of Solution:Since September 2013 (14 months)Deployment Issues:Yes, mostly with Acronis Snap Deploy, using network deployment, most clients do not automatically get DHCP settings when using dual network adapters on the Server. And the network settings aren't automatically recognized from the Snap Deploy interface, until set manually. (even after successfully booting into Acronis via the network).Stability Issues:We haven't seen any issues with stability.Scalability Issues:We haven't seen any issues with scalability.Customer Service:Good. There are a variety of options to choose from.Technical Support:Excellent! Have been with the support team severally through chat and sometimes if things get really complicated they assist remotely to access my server and fix things up for me.Previous Solutions:Yes, I was using Windows Backup and Restore feature. Upon discovering Acronis, I was fascinated by the flexible granular detailed features of 'what to and where to (multiple locations)' Backup and its central management capabilities as opposed to Windows' local system administration.Initial Setup:None that I found difficult. Configuration is mostly wizard-based, so its pretty straightforward.Implementation Team:In-houseROI:Can't really say in monetary terms but it is really Time-saving. Extremely time efficient.Other Solutions Considered:Discovered Acronis first, and went with the solution. Found it to be more user friendly and flexible.Other Advice:Worth trying out. Worked for me. Should have a good system admin to implement the solution more effectively.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. November 18, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Provides backup and storage for our production PC's but the storage nose is stuck frequently and we have to reboot it. Valuable Features:Backup and Recovery for our production PCs.Improvements to My Organization:End user can manage backup and recovery on its own efficiently once a product PC has failed during production.Room for Improvement:The ability to use computing resources, the storage nose is stuck frequently and we have to reboot it, and I'm told that it needs 128GB memory and SAS disk to keep it stable, all of these elements leave me unsatisfied.Use of Solution:We just started deploying the product company-wide.Deployment Issues:Yes, it's for HW requirement described above, because we hadn't been told the requirement by Acronis before we started.Stability Issues:Yes see above.Scalability Issues:Nope.Previous Solutions:We were using Altiris.Initial Setup:It was straightforward.Implementation Team:We did it on our own based on the design provided by Acronis.Other Advice:Optimize resource usage on dedup, look at Avamar which has dedup capability with moderate usage.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by It takes long to backup data using Acronis and Acronis doesn't really help much when it becomes complex. Valuable Features:I prefer the features of cloning hard-disk to hard-disk. Also I like the backup function in the old version of Acronis which is more friendly than the new one which is more complicated and unfriendly to use.Improvements to My Organization:Acronis helps to backup data on a server and also to manage some cloning from 1 PC to another using the method. Normally I use Norton Ghost to do the clone however since I used the Acronis true image 2013 I found it to be very useful and not time consuming.Room for Improvement:It takes a long to backup data using Acronis backup and recovery v11 and I found Acronis support not really helpful as they always suggest to update the software instead of solving the issue with the current version. I would prefer if Acronis would look into their old version and try to enhance it, rather than use new functions on the new version, I would rather stick with the older version.Use of Solution:3 years.Deployment Issues:YesStability Issues:YesScalability Issues:YesCustomer Service:6 out 10Technical Support:6 out 10Previous Solutions:Yes because I am looking for something easier to use and time conservation is very important in any organization re: backup.Initial Setup:The initial setup is straightforward however some companies prefer to do customization, which makes it complex and Acronis does not really help much when it becomes complex, especially for backup into the storage or NAS.Implementation Team:In-house and vendor team (about 3 out 10).ROI:5 years.Cost and Licensing Advice:Original setup is costly and for some companies, they will think whether they should implement using Acronis or not.Other Advice:I think you need to look into business requirement especially when implementing the backup system and make sure the backup software that you buy is 100% fully capable and 100% fully supportive.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 2 out of 5 by GUI for management of backups could be improved but quickly restores backups with minimum fuss. Valuable Features:Image based backup, restore Windows based images quickly and on different hardware.Improvements to My Organization:Quickly restore backups with minimum fuss.Room for Improvement:GUI for management of backups. Using 11.5 more difficult with keeping on tabs with all backup schedules and status of backups, even when using the management console feature of the software.Use of Solution:16 months.Deployment Issues:Yes, combining with Hyper-V host to backup Hyper-V Virtual machines.Stability Issues:Yes performance issues were encountered whilst backups were performed, especially on large file servers.Scalability Issues:Due to having previous issues V10 installed, a straightforward upgrade could not be completed. Need to perform an uninstall of previous software first.Technical Support:3/5.Initial Setup:Yes to perform install on Hyper-V posed a number of challenges, needed to ensure VSS was operating properly was the main one.Implementation Team:In-house.Other Solutions Considered:No, as this has been used always with the organisation.Other Advice:Evaluate product using their 30 day trial to ensure it meets the needs of backups and restore.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 5 out of 5 by Nearly set-and-forget for Server Live Imaging Valuable Features:Live System Imaging – Zero Downtime.Improvements to My Organization:The key for me at the time was allowing my Engineers to have their weekends free vs rotating them through a schedule so that servers were taken offline and imaged during the change window. Post-implementation, this fell to zero and boosted morale by allowing the engineers to enjoy their weekends with their families. In this instance, showing the team that I valued their personal lives and was willing to pay to insure their quality of life resulted in a dedicated team that was thankful and produced more. This organization also highly mission critical server applications where RTO was very low. We did use Load Balancers and other technologies, but for a catastrophic failure this solution presented an RTO of roughly 1 Hour (depending on the size of the server) although often less. It became routine to run an off cycle image before any major physical server upgrade, thus improving the speed from development to QA to production. Developers could be less leery of major changes knowing that the back-out was quick and reliable.Room for Improvement:There can be inconsistencies between builds in terms of the product working with one NIC or another, especially on newer generation servers. Usually downloading the latest bits solved, though. A minor nit, but it’s the only gripe I’ve had to date.Use of Solution:7 Years.Deployment Issues:None.Stability Issues:None.Scalability Issues:None.Customer Service:Excellent.Technical Support:Excellent.Initial Setup:Relatively Straightforward. We needed to create an in house script to purge old images (vs using something like a product retention setting). This may have been corrected in subsequent versions.Implementation Team:In-House.ROI:Somewhat difficult to quantify. The key for me at the time was allowing my Engineers to have their weekends free vs rotating them through a schedule so that servers were taken offline and imaged during the change window. Post-implementation, this fell to zero and boosted morale by allowing the engineers to enjoy their weekends with their families. It became routine to run an off cycle image before any major physical server upgrade, thus improving the speed from development to QA to production. Developers could be less leery of major changes knowing that the back-out was quick and reliable.Cost and Licensing Advice:Rough cost at time of implementation was approximately $1200 per managed server. One engineer monitored the job status, spending approximately 15 minutes per day.Other Solutions Considered:No.Other Advice:Great product, nearly set-and-forget for Server Live Imaging once fully configured.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
