Product Overview
Main Features
  • 802.11n Router with 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch
The D-Link Xtreme N™ Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.

Powered by Xtreme N™ technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers.

With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.

The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP™, WPA™, and WPA2™ standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.

Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.

Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office.

Product Reviews
D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from We've had a few D-link devices. We had a PCI NIC - (DGE series for Vlan Tagging)Which worked a treat and we can't fault that device enough. We had one series of WAPs which were un-reliable, users often complained of drop-outs, and the devices had to be continuously rebooted which was a pain when customers required reliable wifi to perform working. For the Price, DLink is a good choice, but not in all aspects of a company environment. If i could give half stars, I would give DLink 3.5 instead of 4.DLink are good for household use I believe, it seems this is the better market for them and not corporate. But all in all, they don't make bad products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Reliable We have purchased over 50 of these SOHO routers over the past couple of years and only had 1 fail. Much better than the NetGear ProSafe routers that we were previously using. D-Link replaced the unit under warranty with no questions asked.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Device is very good looking, Very compact, with a nice built in stand (When cable is attached it wobbles to much to stay standing for long) Comes with a nice travel bag. I was unable to get my device to work, And it is being returned, so i cant comment on the connectivity, But it does come with excellent instructions. And Setup is fairly easy. Not as simple as the NetGear WNCE2001 But still not too bad!.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Enterprise Products. Never had a failure on one in over 7 years of using them for multiple networks, businesses, and locations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great performing router which is feature rich and well made, the DIR-655 easily earns its title of being among the best in it's class, in its time - even supporting IPv6. Good news is that the latest firmware available is still not that old (Aug 2013), and the User Manual is detailed and full of technical insights (a rarity nowadays), given all the advanced features supported (such as ALG and WISH). My first-ever router was a D-Link, as was my 2nd and 3rd, but since then I've moved up to other manufacturer's/models that support DD-WRT, which is how true router power is to be had. If the DIR-655 supported it, this would be my definite killer combination.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This router is excellent in terms of range and functionality. Setup was easy enough to enable me to connect to my ISP and I was able to use the router to effect DHCP reservations on my network, as well as to set up port forwarding to enable access to devices over the Internet. The range is excellent and I was able to see this router from parts of my house, previously impossible with the D-Link DIR-615 that this router replaced. I've been using the router for over six (6) months now without issue. The one disappointment i have with the router, though, is that I assumed (i know I shouldn't have) that the ability to attach a USB drive would have enabled to drive to function as a NAS (similar to how some other routers implement this feature). The attached drive can only be accessed via a Web browser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Router for the money, I do recommend buying two of these and backing up the routers config file. Routers fail over time and being able to pull a spare and importing the router config file will keep your office network productivity going strong. Also the included 3dbi antennas are good, however if you are looking for more wifi signal range consider moving up to the higher 7 or 9bdi antennas. Please note for an entry level user the routers web interface can be overwhelming and confusing so be sure to do your research before buying the Dir-655 and make sure if you have any issues contact Dlink support staff they are great.
