Print quality is very high. Ink doesn't last very long and cartridges are prohibitively expensive, so this product only gets 3 stars. When selecting a new printer, cost of printer ink mustan important consideration.

Like many others, wish I had checked out the reviews of the HP 60 black ink cartridges before I let the HP salesperson talk me into getting the HP Photosmart C4780. I actually love the printer itself - esp the copy and scan functions. But the cost of cartridges, esp black ones, is killing my budget. Even the large capacity version. I don't do a ridiculous amount of printing, most of it is for personal use, and I almost always use the "fast draft black" setting. Just told my husband that 35 out of 37 reviewers had the same problem with constantly running out of ink, and he said "Let's just get another printer"....for what we spent on the printer, we'd be better off selecting another brand of printer and cartridge than replacing the black cartridge on our current printer almost weekly! He's right! And you can bet I'll check customer reviews of ink along with reviews of the printer itself from this day forward!

Check under File, print, preferences, Advanced, Ink Volume, Change--adjust the volume to your comfort level, hope this helps. = ) Aside from the ink issue, I think it works well. A little on the noisy side, but it prints to the edge and the colors are good. It prints faster than my old printer so that is good.

As first I had a really hard time getting my printer to accept the cartridge, when I finally did get it in thought I had damaged it somehow as it only lasted a few days. The offending cartridge is the 60 black. Bad bad choice won't buy this again. If you ever change the way it is made please let me know and I will give you another chance as this is the frist time I have been so sadly dissapointed in one of you products. Twilightelf

If you have any kind of printing workload this ink is not for you. 7 - 10 days is about the norm for this product before you're changing out the cartridge. Highly encourage finding a more economical printer if you have a steady print work load.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waste of money This cartridge runs out so fast. Plus, the first 2 times I loaded it, my printer didn't think it was genuine. Upon loading, about 10% of the ink level goes down. Read the fine print when it says you'll get 200 pages.. I'd say it's close to 100 even on draft setting if you print more than 5 words per page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great for me! When my accountant happened to say, "if we get audited...", I thought, hmmmm..... If I get audited, I'd like to have more documentation. So I spent around $15 for a new black ink cartridge and went to work, printing out invoices for the year of 2010! I used my HP Photosmart printer all day, printing out page after page, with never a hiccup or burp! It was a real trooper! I always take advantage of HP when they have free shipping specials, and I'm able to purchase new ink at below Wal-Mart prices. Fed Ex brings it right to my door, the next day, if I need it! What's not to like? I think many people have too high expectations for these printers. If you investigate (and I have ....), you will find the only way to pay less is to purchase a much more expensive printer and then buy remanufactured inks, and other manufacturers have their detracters, too. I've decided to get over it and get on with it! I like my printer and I'm sticking with it! Thanks, HP!

I am going through ink cartridges at an unacceptable rate. Within 2 weeks of purchase i had to replace the black ink cartridge and at ~$14 a pop this is turning out to be a very expensive printer to operate. Definately not a green machine! Noisy too. Oh well, I do not blame HP i am more irritated with the Best Buy employee who sold it to me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really really bad. I an hp Photosmart C4780 printer for really cheap when I bought my new computer... now I know why. The 60 ink cartridge is so bad. I wanted to printed a 150 page document. I put in a brand new black cartridge and color cartridge. I had it set to draft black and white. I got about 100 pages in before it started going bad. This is not a good product. As a Palo Alto guy, I have always been a fan of HP. When a product is this poor I feel like HP is losing the big fight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from horrible wow really this 60 ink is costing me to much money.....the trial ink it came with was awesome and i ran out after 175 plus pages...then i buy more printed maybe 30 pages if that i was in the middle of printing my taxes and ran out i was this cant be its brand new...so i go and i get another one print maybe 20 pages and the indecater is telling me low...really are u kidding me...so i just bought my 3 one last night lets see how this goes...so that 3 cartiages in 2 months and i dont print that often.....had trial ink for over 6 months with around 175 pages guess i shudda just bought new printer...but the printer i have works perfect just the ink is no good

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me I have a C4780 Photosmart HP Printer that uses 60 Black and also 60 Tricolor ink cartridges. I print 100's of documents on a weekly basis and I buy a new cartridge about every 3-4 weeks. ( Color about 5-6 weeks unless I am doing High Quality prints for my wife's Job) I usually just buy the combo pack because its cheaper and I know I will need the color one sooner or later anyways. Because of my Wife's job or printing Photos I can always use an extra color cartridge. Anyway back to my Point, I use FAST DRAFT for my everyday documents and I usually get about 200-250 pgs per cartridge. I do know that if I switch to NORMAL I only get about 150 pgs.

I got messages about it being incompatible, it wasn't installed properly, and that there were paper jams. I took it out and put it back in numerous times. Same messages popped up. Finally I just bought a new one from a store, same number and still hp. That one installed just fine. So now I'm stuck with a dud cartridge, and I'm out the money I paid for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORST purchase ever !!! I concur with the other reviews about this ink. I had an HP C6280 (really liked it), using the individual 02 inks, & they lasted quite well. But it died when I tried to use an Office Depot ink, even tho they said they'd not had problems. Mine wouldn't work even when I tried the HP ink. So I had to get a new printer, & got a second one also, with both using the 60 ink. WHAT A WASTE !!! I cannot afford these inks. One of the printers won't even recognize a new cartridge, but says I need to replace it before I've even used it. So that may be the printer & not the ink, but nonetheless, the ink only prints a few pages, even using the Fast Draft Black setting. I got really good deals on both printers, but not for long if I have to buy ink monthly! I've considered buying a printer at a store which has a 30-day return policy. Then I'll just exchange the printer every 28 days for a new one !!! LOL! I sure can't afford buying ink every month!!!

It just does not last for very many pages before I need to replace the ink cartridge with another one. The printer itself was at a good price, but the ink will cost MUCH more than the printer in a few months. It's time to shop for another printer that is more efficient with ink usage!

I might try the XL and see if it lasts enough longer. It does a good job though. When you want something printed you want it to work and this always does.

We bought this cartridge a few weeks ago. Tonight it ran dry. No problem, I thought. I'll just do what I always do: Refill it a couple of times myself before buying a new one. Well, guess what? It appears that the wonderful folks at HP have devised a way to make the cartridge bleed ink all over everywhere if you try to refill it, rendering it totally useless. Congratulations. You wanted to force a few extra dollars out of me. Well, guess what? MY DAYS OF USING AND RECOMMENDING YOUR PRINTERS ARE OVER. I can't afford to give you another $20 every 3 weeks, so our relationship is OVER. I'll find a printer whose cartridges I can refill. There's lots more I could say about you, but unfortunately none of it is printable.

I felt I wasn't getting anywhere near their advertised number of printed pages: "HP 60 Black Original Ink Cartridge. Choose the #1 brand for the #1 value. Up to 200 pages". I've never gotten anywhere near 200 pages for simple at-home use, i.e., a copy of an invoice here and a paragraph or two of information there...I kept track of the last cartridge. Purchased from Walmart on 9/21/2018 and opened same date. Printed 41 pages (rarely a full page of words and no pictures or photos) as of today, April 17, 2019 ~ no ink left. Done with HP ink and their printer!

I have had the printer/scanner, that uses this ink, less than 2 WEEKS and am ready to send it back to HP, because of the extreme ink usage. I did manage to eek out a few extra copies using the DRAFT print setting and the product looked like it was set on normal ink usage. TIMES ARE TIGHT HP! I CAN NOT AFFORD YOUR PRODUCTS AT THIS RATE OF INK USAGE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed couldnt find the 60xl, so had to make do with the 60, one day is all it lasted. very disappointed. i got about 60 or 75 pgs done and the colour cartridge still has ink in it that i bought at the same time. now i cant print anything until i get to the store again. :( i cant say how the 60xl does havent bought it yet will be buying it next.

I did try to print 40 copies of a color flyer, but haven't been able to complete those since I ran out of ink and will have to buy #4 already! Just remember that you get what you pay for, and while they say the cartridges are less expensive than some of the others, it will not last long.

However, I bought one last month and the cartridge didn't last for more than 25 days. When I contacted HP they were not very helpful and I had to buy another ink cartridge at my cost.

My old HP printer worked much better. On another cart. I printed about 30 4x6. It would have been cheaper for me to have the photos printed at Wal-mart. The color cartridge was even worse.

When the device no longer synced with my new computer, I decided to purchase another HP similar unit but choose one based on ink price. All I needed was a user-friendly P/S/C and not necessarily high-end. I chose an economy-minded HP model and it has served me well. It is not as nice as my old expensive one, but I was ready for that. Watch the ink use to get the most out of your "60" cartridge. Be frugal and stingy with your printer. I print nearly everything on draft or fast, and it looks fine. I print photos at the store instead. I don't allow the kids to print without supervision. If they screw up and forget, well, no more XBox 360 for awhile, and that gets their attention. No more print jobs with mistakes. I don't let the neighbor kids hand me a $1 and then print their 15 page research paper. I play dumb and say "It's broken". Works for me. HP forever :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP 60 ink Worst deal around I have always purchased HP products, I have a desktop, laptop and 2 printers however, I wish I had known before I purchased 2 HP All in ones, how expensive the ink was going to be. I agree with everyone else..the standard size ink I can only get maybe 40 pages and so I am forced to buy the XL which still only gives me around 300 pages. I dont know what they are printing to get their count of how many pages you should get out of a cartridge, but it doesnt seem to be the norm. I do know that the combo packs used to have a little sponge inside the cartridge to take up space, thus less ink. Try opening up one of your cartridges and see whats inside. I do know that I will not buy another HP printer only because the ink can get so expensive. (I go though about 3 black and 3 color a month.)

You're lucky if you get 100 pages of printed text from one cartridge and that's without printed images. At this rate I'll need to find a second job just to afford the ink cartridges. My advise is to find a printer that doesn't use this ink.

A great deal on the printer does not alleviate the disappointment that the black printer cartridge does not last very long. This is a very distressing turn of events. They are consistent in their quality, ship right away when I order direct, and customer service is available and friendly when I need them. As far as I know without doing much research, the prices are competitive within industry standards as well.

I have to buy a new black cartridge about every 2 weeks!!! thought my printer was going to be great because it was a good price and the ink was reasonably priced but WHOOOOA didn't know i was going to have to buy SO MUCH!!! Hp needs to do something about this ink or send everybody coupons for free ink once a month since you have to buy 2-3 cartridges a month!!! I am spending somewhere around $50 a month on just black ink!!!!!!!!!!

It was easy to install and it arrived quickly. My printer began working again, but the ink ran out three days later, and I hadn't printed even close to the maximum. Is it the ink, or the printer? For the cost of all the ink, I may as well keep buying new printers!

Only successfully printed 66 single-sided black and white pages before pages lost sufficient colour for legibility. Absolutely not worth the price. I can pay for a full run of the newsletter, double-sided printing, for $7.36 as compared to $31.49 (w/taxes) for a single ink cartridge that is insufficient to print even one side of the full newsletter run. Would not recommend at all.

When there is a serious amount of printing that needs to be done the cost is prohibitive. Good for small jobs or a few photos but large print jobs will exhaust a cartridge quickly. There are more competitive alternatives available. HP builds a good product but the ink is too expensive.

The last time I needed ink the price of the 28 and the 56 were almost double the cost of the other inks, so I figured it was time to get a new printer. Works great, guzzles ink, I wish I knew this before I bought it. The quality isn't better than the 4210 and it looks like it's still going to cost me a bundle for ink, anyway.

Finally it was concluded that I had purchased a faulty ink cartridge. I can't help but think now that the rep.was so through because even though my ink cartridge was new , it was my problem, and would I like to buy one from them. Needless to say, no, not needless, it needs to be said. I received my cartridges the next day, at a great price, and my problems were resolved. I will not be at my local stores for ink again. I thought I had gotten a bad cartridge so I took it back and the same thing happened. I called HP and they replaced it with the 60XL - supposedly 600 copies. Well, it made about 100. I am on my fourth cartridge so far and haven't even gone through one 500-sheet package of paper yet. At this rate it is costing me 15-20 cents per page to use my printer; I can have Kinko's print stuff off a disk cheaper than that.

Documetation says it should print around 200 pges. The first one printed less than 100 normal text pages. I assumed I had a bad cartridge so went and bought another one. The same thing happened, less than 100 pages. At the price, this is a very poor investment. I guess I'll go and try the 60XL. Documentation says around 600 pges. We'll see if that is true. However, I would not waste my money on a normal HP 60 black ink cartridge if I were you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, but not needed. I was buying HP 60 Black cartridges last 10 years, but my old printer broke and I cannot use HP 60 cartridges any more. By this reason I returned last HP 60. But I still didn't get credit for it. Shame on you my HP friends!

I was informed by a customer service representative they did not have 60 in stock so they sent what they had. I ordered the 60 from HP and received exactly what I ordered, I paid the same amount for a new cartridge including shipping and my order shipped within 2 day.

YOU MADE ME PACKAGE IT UP AND TRAVEL TO A FED-EX PICK UP STORE BEFORE YOU WOULD SEND THE INK I ORDERED AND PAID FOR. I FINALLY GOT MY INK ON 4/17. IN MY EYES THIS IS TERRIBLE SERVICE. Rated 5 out of 5 by from good quality I bought this ink cartridge about a month ago and it is working fine, but the reason I had to purchase it (as I do not print a lot) was because the previous cartridge did not work properly and I had to remove it with almost a full cartridge and return it. I felt I should be entitled to a new cartridge at no charge. The faulty one is on it's way back to you.
