HP 88 Black, Yellow Printhead is rated 3.37 out of 5 by 70.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overpriced This printhead cartridge functions as advertised but is overpriced. If I had to replace all the cartridges in this printer it would cost more than what I paid for the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two Weeks?? I always buy my HP inks from HP directly because a company rep told me I would be guaranteed the freshest products. That's important to me because I have an Officejet machine with "suicide" ink cassettes - designed to stop working on the date printed on the box, no matter how much ink is left. The date can't be reset. Today, the new black/yellow printhead I received two weeks ago ceased to function, so we don't have a working printer. I followed the user guide's trouble-shooting procedures but no luck! Even more disappointing, I found the expiration date on the box is only 18 months from now. That's awful for a $60 printhead that gets light use, but to only last 2 weeks is ridiculous. We will call HP for technical help and certainly hope they can fix this problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product easy to install The HP printheads are so quick and easy to install. Just as easy to remove old ones by virtue of the handle that can be raised for pulling up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well, BUT too expensive OEM product works as it should (as opposed to less expensive copy) but is too damned expensive .. HP has owner over a barrel (applies to ink too)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Printhead Rejuvenated my Printer The printer Print Quality test pages were giving bad streaks in the black zone even after cleaning. The HP help said this was likely due to the Black/Yellow printhead. I purchased a new printhead (leaving the other printhead alone) and insatlled it in my Officejet L7580 printer. After it automatically aligned everything, it worked perfectly and was like a brand new printer. It was expensive ($80) but saved my $400 printer!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't last very long This is the second replacement HP 88 Black Yellow print head I've have put into my L7680. The original lasted a couple of years. The second one didn't last nearly as long and produced fewer copies. Hoping this one does better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed. Purchased printhead in November 2018. Four months later printhead no longer works. Purchased through HP site for hopes of a quality product. My previous printhead lasted 7 years. I do light printing and do not understand how in four months it could have gone bad. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too old-waste of my money I recently purchased new Printheads for my Officejet Pro L7590, after buying new ink cartridges and going through the diagnostic procedures for print quality. The Printheads are very expensive and lasted about 30 days. Now I have spent enough to have purchased a new printer and color print quality is horrible. I purchased direct from HP. I have no way to access my orders and submit a complaint for the defective products, which have probably been on the shelf too long to be usable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It worked! I was having issues with the quality of the printing and I finally had to pull the trigger on getting printheads. I bought both the black and yellow, as well as the cyan and magenta. As soon as I got the printhead, I installed the cyan and magenta and the printing was as good as new. I just wish that they were a bit cheaper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brand New Again! I wasn't sure if the printhead would do the trick. Some times if the printhead is bad and you don't use the printer for awhile, the lines will dry up and clog. Luckily replacing the printhead did the trick. They just need to come down on the price a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I thought I just needed new ink cartridges, but when I changed them, the printer still didn't print right. I am not a "techie" so I went online to see what the problem might be. PRINTER HEADS! Hmmmm! Didn't know about that! I needed both, so I bought them on a weekend, and they got here on Tuesday...Free shipping...Can't beat that! They were easy to change out, and that was exactly what I needed! I am now printing happily away! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive and questionable reliability I received a printhead that did not function at all. I was denied a replacement or refund because my printer itself was out of warranty. I have no complaints about my HP printer, but the brand new printhead which costs nearly as much as some printers, and did not work right out of the box, is not something I'm going to just try another one of. I now have a brick on my desk. I don't know if another brand is better, but I couldn't deal with 'fool me twice'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Yellow? Change your printhead! I was not getting "yellow" and decided to "try" changing my printhead. I had no idea they can "go bad. Ordered, installed and "voila"..........yellow is back in full operation mode. I think I'll change my blue/magenta also to just update and get more life out of my printer! L7600

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color & Fast Have had a lot of problems with the black/Yellow printhead. Although you people have answered my situations, I have spent a lot of time trying to fiqure out the problem. Because of the issue and trying to get the printer to work at church, we now have 3 extra printheads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PROMPT REPLACEMENT I ordered this printhead Aug 26 & received it Aug 28. Worked fine initially, but the following week was not working correctly. HP promptly sent a replacement and provided me with a return authorization for the original printhead. Received the replacement printhead Sept 17, and so far it is working with not problems. HP stands behind its products, and I would order from them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only lasted 2 weeks I bought this and the Cyan/Magenta printhead for my printer. It was great having everything working correctly. But it only lasted for 2 weeks, and then I got printhead errors. Worst of all, despite these being "under warranty" there was absolutely no way for me to reach HP about them. Using the product info and serial number got an "can't find this" type of error, and to get to a person I was asked to pay $90 up front. I tossed the entire printer out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't solve the problem We ran all the tests on our printer, and it indicated that we needed the Black/Yellow print head replaced. So, we ordered the recommended replacement product and installed it per the instructions. We still have the horizontal lines in our documents....UNLESS we use the 'best' print mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New print head did the trick I have been having trouble with my printer quality for quite a while, and it finally got to the point where the black would not print at all. I went to the HP site, searched the problem, and it sounded like one of the print heads was the issue. I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one. It did the trick, and my printer is as good as new. I am pleased, especially since I had several unopened packages of ink on hand !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product functioned exactly as expected This was the first time I needed to replace printheads since purching the officejet printer over 5 years ago. The design of the printheads, like the ink cartridges, is simple and clean for usage. Following the replacement directions, explicitly, makes it a snap to do, I have used HP products for years and have never been disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It might be the problem, but not the solution After buying the new printhead for my model printer, the printer stopped working completely. HP indicated that was because my out-of-date model was too old to accept the new printhead which was made for it. The good news, they did refund the cost of the printhead, then "discounted" the price of a new HP printer. My recommendation: if your printer is more than three years old and the print quality declines, watch the sales for a totally new machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technical problem The printheads now available have a chip that my HP Office Pro K5400 will not recognize. When this first happened I called and spent about an hour with an individual not located in the US. He said he had no fix for the problem and all he could do was sell me a new machine with a pitance credit for my old one which I love. I have a big investment in supplies (ink etc.) and don't want to change. I found a way to keep using the machine. First I must reinstall the old orginal printheads and ruln a cycle. Next, without turning off the machine replace the old printheads with the new. Then never furn off the machine. Same problem with power failures, paper jams etc. A real problem. Why did they change the chip or at least make some printheads with the orginal chip. When you do things that obselete good machines you really make the customer unhappy. If this machine ever dies I will investigate brands from competors. I have been an HP user for 23 back to the old paintjet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from printhead performance I had a printhead error (b/y) and could not get the printer to print. I got a second printer from box (use only once when I bought it). Put the printhead on it, same error message. Bought a new printhead and same problem. Revert back to old print head and the (new) printer worked. Put back the just bought print head and the printer worked but when I check the print head under the printer tool box it is on yellow and the 2 years old m/c is on green. I did the same to the other machine and the result is the same. As far I'm concerned you owe me 2 new print head that is full (showing green). I read some forum on this problem and lots of people complaint to you and still have the same problem with Y/B print head. The old one working has a 2010-09-27 date and 2 old ones that no longer works has a date of 2012-01-09 and one M/C that gave the error is also 2012-09-27 and one now that works has a date of 2010-03-16. I feel that you should provide me with 2 B/y and one M/C because one of my (2) printer is out of work and on the other the printhead is on yellow meaning that is half full. I'm retired and on fixed income and can not afford this. I like this printer's but now I have doubt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a solution My printer gave me a message that I had a problem with the Yellow and Black Print head, so I bought a new one. After I installed the new print head, I still have the same message on my printer, so this did not solve any problem, and was a waste of my money. The print head is probably a worthwhile product, but I can't give it a good rating because it did nothing for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unfounded concern After reading some of the poor reviews on these printheads, I was concerned that I might be wasting my money to buy a new one. I tried all the tips I read on the internet to get my failing printhead to work. No luck. Finally with a coupon sent to me by HP, I purchased a new replacement printhead. It worked right out of the box and I couldn't be happier! My concern was unfounded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DOA I purchased a spare set of print heads shortly after I got my L7700 printer, without realizing that there was a warranty expiration date printed on each head. I replaced the Magenta/Cyan head a few months ago and it worked [and continues to work] perfectly. I finally reached the point where cleaning the print head no longer restored the Black/Cyan printing acceptably- so I replaced that print head yesterday (July 4, 2011). But this time all I get is an immediate error message that says something is wrong with the C9381A print head. The printer won't let me print at all unless I put the old head back in. The head is marked "Warranty ends 2010/08/27"- which means I am aparently out $70+. The non-functioning head was still completely sealed in the manufacturer's packaging when I opened it yesterday. I'm not a happy camper at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed new printhead. I really needed the new Black and Yellow Printhead, the one which came with the printer new was original and gummed up from lack of use, this printer was a backup and now I needed it as a main printer but as such the old printheads needed renewing or replacing. They showed up on time and once I put them in the printer all was well. Thanks for being there HP Home and Home Office Store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as good as expected I have a wonderful Office Jet Pro K5400 printer that is getting a little old and once a year or so needs new printheads. However, the last new printheads could not be detetected by the internal software of the printer. I spent hours with the tech service and all they wanted to do was sell me a new printer. I have hundreds of bucks invested in supplies for this one so a new one is a bad deal. To get the new printheads to work the old defectective heads must be installed and run, then without turning off the machine the new ones switched in. It then runs fine until someone turns the machine off or we have a power failure. Then the whole process must be repeated. I keep the old printheads handy. I ordered some standby printheads fearing that HP would discontinue support for this machine someday.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printhead Replace the printhead with the new one which worked for one day, and the printer stated that it needed to be replaced, again. After many attempts at re-installation and cleaning. I took the entire HP L7590 to Staples and traded for a new HP8500Ae. I lost the cost of the printhead at $80 plus four print cartridges with the black and yellow being new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Faulty times two Replaced the print head after 40K pages in December 2010 and it failed almost immediately. Replaced it once again in February 2011 but still doesn't work properly. Have spent more time getting lousy printing than anyone should expect. Did try all the alignment, cleaning, and HP support to no avail. Had outside sources try to evaluate the problem only to come to the conclusion that the black printhead cartridge is no good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reason for failure???? Seams strange...was getting warning"print head out-of-date". It was working fine, then paper jammed and there was an indention on the corner of this part.. I don't understand your reasoning for bar coding parts??? I purchased two large black inks from Sams and the first one is already saying "the ilk ink is out of date". It's 25 % full and I'm sure the new one will say "It's out of date". Those print heads are too expensive for such a short lifespan.

The cost is a bit higher than I expected. Wish HP would put a layer of protection on the edge where the flex cable wraps around the end of the head so this wouldn't have been damaged when the head struck the paper that had jammed... Lack of engineering shouldn't be passed on to the consumer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printhead This replacement printhead is working okay, the old printhead only lasting a little over a month and needed to be replaced. As I stated the new printhead is working okay for now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved my problem perfectly. This product met my needs exactly. Had bought new ink cartridges but was still having problems with print quality. The HP web site suggested that I Chang the print heads. Problem solved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed my problem WeI pulled a printer out of our stockroom that had been there for 2 years; it would not print. First, we changed the print cartridges and it still wouldn't print. Called HP customer support and they confirmed my suspicion that it needed a new print head. Ordered the print head and it works beautifully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT WHAT I EXPECTED RECENTLY BOUGHT CYAN/MAGENTA PRINTHEAD, PRINTER WORKED GREAT. THEN WAS TOLD I MUST REPLACE INK CARTRIDGE. DID THAT - USED PRINTER A FEW TIMES AND NOW IT IS TELLING ME TO REPLACE THE OTHER PRINTHEAD. WITH WHAT I HAVE SPENT ON CARTRIDGES & PRINTHEADS I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A NEW PRINTER.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't buy HP Printer Products HP continuously raises their prices for ink/printer heads to ridiculous levels. The older your printer the greater profit they try to capture. I've owned many of their printers and will never, ever buy another one. Don't refill your toner/ink. Throw your HP printer out and buy any other brand.
