Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's an HP need I say more? It's a great printer, scanner and copier. I needed the 11X17 format but unfortunately it will not copy 11X17 on the flatbed: You have to scan it first and then print to make a copy. But it's fast and easy to set up. It's larger than I would have liked, but I'm getting used to it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible value It was on sale, but even at regular price this thing would have been a bargain. The scanner is just ok, and the fact you can't scan to a network smb or ftp is a bummer, but as far as actual printing, and the fact I can load 8.5x22 AND 11X17 in separate drawers at this price point is crazy. Prints quality is perfect for general office use. No, this doesn't print copy or scan at the same speed as the $20,000 leased machine we were using, but in today's environment where are print needs are 1/10th what they were 5 years ago, this thing is a steal and is the perfect small office printer. Bought the 3yr advanced exchange warranty too, so for the first three years it's HPs machine to maintain, but so far no signs of any issues and were two reams of paper in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed!!!!!!!! For years I have purchased "ONLY" HP Products and this is the very first time I have been disappointed. The day before I received this printer my mother passed away, and we had to go out of town to take care of issues regarding her death. My granddaughter was here so she accepted this item. when we got back the next night I tried to set it up and had problems, so I contacted support. He helped me with trying to set-up the printer. It showed that the tray was the problem. He told me that he would have new trays sent to me. The top tray opens but the bottom tray will not open at all. I need this printer "NOW". How long before the trays come? And is there good instructions for their installation? I could have just returned this item and you could have sent me a new one "without any problems with it"!!!!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seemed like to right printer ??? The printer arrived as promised, and less than a week. Installation was not hard, but not easy as well. A bit confusing though. Started printing letter size paper and it worked very well, but trying to print 3" x 5" cards has been unsuccessful so far. The tray used for it is problematic at best. My 3 x 5 cards either keep getting jammed up, or don't print well at all. No manual came with it, just a Quick start reference guide. I need to know how I can use my printer, and so far it has been a lesson of frustration. What used to be done via the software in terms of paper sizes, has been thwarted by needing to manually chose on the printer what size you need, and then you need to reset it back. Crazy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP 7740 printer So far the printer works fine for printing. Have not set up the scanner yet. Says I need to create an account for the scanner. Why? I already have an account with HP for the printer. Some of the printer set up was easy. Some was more difficult. The app was not all that easy to follow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed Absolutely awful! Second machine and still does not work right. The first machine would only use the document feeder and the second only uses the document flatbed. Evidently, the machine has a power issue as well. Called for service and the first question is it plugged into the wall or a power bar. Multiple steps to reset and the reset will not hold. Is this machine AI? It certainly acts like it has a mind of it's own! My personal opinion is this printer should be scrapped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good print quality This is the worst HP printer/scanner/all in one I've ever owned. I've been buying HP products for 25-30 years. This on is not on par with the other products I've owned. It took me 2.5 hrs to get the scanning feature to work. I had to install, uninstall, reinstall, uninstall, reinstall several times to get it to work. If it wasn't for the fact that I need a wide bed scanner I would have returned this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible machine! Purchased this to replace our worn out 8600 machine. When you open the top cover you hear this noise which Hap has yet to reply to my request for assistance. When you print some pages have this black line on the side! What good is a printer which give you a black line? This printer is the worst ever and a total piece of garbage! Don’t purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a Shame Straight out of the box it prints a verticle line down the left hand of the page any time you print more than 1 page. I have searched to the ends of the internet to find a solution and it appears to be a common problem that they haven't addressed. Disappointing because short of that little glitch it'd be a great machine. So disappointing when something doesn't work properly straight out of the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but...... Prints and scans A3 paper, but the extended feeder drawers with A3 let dust into the unit. I use it for printing A3 exclusively so this is an area of concern for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything I need. Scan is good, copy feature, too. I edit a quarterly Ruritan newsletter so I need all the features. In addition, I print 11 X 17 posters for Ruritan functions. The 2nd tray works well for the posters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer - hplip, not so much This is a great printer! It is fast and with two paper trays, I dint have to change paper to move between sizes. However, since I use RedHat Linux, hooking up the printer to my workstation was not as easy. The latest software eliminated my ability to see my scanners, so I had to keep trying older versions until I found one that recognized both the scanners and the printer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By Far, the Best Printer I've Ever Owned! I bought this printer in November 2016, and have used it daily ever since. I've never had any issues or problems with this printer, unlike most other HP or Apple printers I've owned in the past. The OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a real workhorse, and the 11" x 17" printing format has come in very handy when I need to print out my apartment building's semi-annual newsletters as well as whenever I need to print out large format documents, such as camera settings and appliance installation instructions. Scanning works effortlessly with my Macbook Pro, color copying function and quality is as good as a commercial "Xerox" machine (although a bit slower), colors print out accurately, scanning or copying black & white or color photos as well as printing photos from my computer produce great results... plus the machine is relatively user-friendly and intuitive. I've only experienced two or three paper jams in the 3 years I've used this machine, and have never had to call HP for customer support. Importantly, my HP 7740 doesn't eat up too many ink cartridges, and when I need replacements, the 952XL cartridges are readily available and reasonably priced. My HP7740 used daily at home by both myself and my wife from our respective Macbook Pros. This is clearly the best and most reliable printer I've ever owned and deserves a place in the "Computer Printer Hall of Fame." I highly recommend (in fact, I just recommended to a friend and hers will be delivered later today).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, 11x17 very nice! After 10,000+ pages, still running strong! The ability to scan and print 11x17's for what I do is a must (Building Construction Documents). A few hitches there and again, but generally a very reliable printer. Highly recommend especially if you need the wide format!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank the Stars an All-in-one for Tabloid Paper! Great All-in-one for the money...finally found a printer and scanner for tabloid paper that doesn't cost a fortune. WiFi setup was easy and we are able to print from outside the office with HP's email print service too! 2 paper trays allow us to easily print Letter or Tabloid without changing paper and the output looks great both color & B&W. We've been great use from the 11x17 scanner bed as we regularly need to upload paper documents from clients and consultants for building permit submission. Only Con is that the sheet feeder won't accept the 11x17 paper size so scanning and copying tabloid is one sheet at a time...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could be Better We purchased this for the fact it prints, copies and scans 11 x 17's. Disappointed that to scan directly from the printer it will only send as a .jpeg and it will NOT allow you to "save as" a .pdf. Our clients use .pdf's, not jpegs so we have to take extra steps to scan and are unable to use the scan to computer, scan to email, etc. features. If you are looking for a simple scan feature from the printer this is not your are looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 11x17 scanning I just purchased this 7740 from Staples and the salesman said one of the benefits of this printer/scanner is that it can scan my 11x17 hand colored originals on the flat bed glass rather than feeding originals through the feeder. He said some complain about the originals getting jammed in the feeder. Wow my hand colored original (many hours of work) getting destroyed in the feeder! Is this correct? I can not afford to lose expensive originals in the feeder. Please confirm about 11x17 color scanning. Thanks, Bob

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null We had an HP7000 for years until it couldn't read one of the ink cartridges anymore. We purchased the HP 7740 and the print quality is just what we were looking for. The only thing is the download of prints is a little slower than what we were used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A jungle. Thoughtless jumble of software. You can download more useless stuff. If I load envelopes in tray 1 and paper in tray 2 why cant this thing print from the tray with paper unless I am printing envelopes. Lock the tray. How exactly. If I DL basic software and want to try the full software it just makes another printer with the same name but two different software piles. Smart HP? I cant find anything smart in it. More jumble. Want a divorce, make your wife install this. Does anyone have microscopic fingers that work on the touch screen? Brainless. When it prints, it prints fast and can do both sides fast too. that is why there are 2 stars. Structure is good. So much promise and such messed up software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The printer is great, but no documentation Printer came with no document on installation or connecting to WIFI. Only one page referring to several website and tools. I had to waste 2 days to go through these web address to finally connect printer to WIFI. Then 3 days to connect my laptop to printer. I was expecting that "Printer & Scanner Doctor" or other tools, would do this easily and correctly in first attempt, instead giving me an offline message. My expectation from HP was much higher than this experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a printer Prints 11x17, dual paper trays means you don't have to reload for each paper size. Haven't had any problems with jamming. Setup cartridge is lasting MUCH longer than most setup cartridges. Either they are full cartridges, or it uses much less ink than my last printer. Either way it's a good value. FWIW - It does take up a lot of space. Which is should since it handles large paper. But the pics don't really have anything to show you scale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OfficeJet Pro 7740 This is the second Wide format HP I have had. I love them. You can copy any size and in color. Set up is a breeze. It almost installs itself. This one has a second paper tray, which is a nice feature. The only thing I liked better about the first one was the larger control panel. The control panel on the 7740 is smaller and hard to see at some angles. The older version had a larger one that was slanted and easier to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink Hog, bad power management. Fast, ok quality The unit we have only has options to turn itself off 1,2,4,or 8 hours... I would normally be fine with the printer turning off after a few minutes if it turned itself on when it gets a network signal... but it doesn't... We think the print was sent and started and it fails. This is unacceptable and infuriating because this bug has been existing for about the year that we have had the printer. My friend doesn't turn on the ink saving features, and I'm about to just turn them on for him, but the ink costs are much higher per page than the epson he had previously. The ink hog comment is from the owner. I am hoping that someone from HP will reach out to us and add an option to NOT shut down the network interface, and to make it so the printer powers on when a print job is sent to it. If other people don't have this problem... there is a small chance it is the network switch not passing a signal to the printer... but that's unlikely.

After 1 1/2 years comes up with the error that printhead is missing or incorrectly installed. I have tried everything from the HP website. Nothing works. The warranty company did not replace it like it has said they could not find one they gave me $130. Can't even cover the price of a new printhead. Very disappointing. It was a good printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Sure I Understand the Point of This Printer I'm disappointed. I got this printer yesterday. It WILL NOT print #10 envelopes straight! What printer can't print envelopes? Also, it has a massive 12' x 17" glass scan top, but ONLY scans 8.5" x 11. What's the point of that? I'm glad I only spend $179 on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vastly improved printer I'm a one-person architectural firm, and need good quality larger format printing and scanning - up to 11 x 17. I bought this printer when my 7610 died after 3 years. I grumbled a bit that it only lasted that long, but this new 7740 is such an improvement that I wish I'd upgraded sooner. Print quality is better, both in darkness/contrast and in orientation (no more weirdly skewed prints); scanning is easy; and I can keep both letter and tabloid size paper loaded (although the bottom drawer with tabloid paper won't quite close, that's a minor inconvenience compared to changing the paper feed every time you change paper sizes.) I almost didn't write this review - don't want to jinx myself - but this printer is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why HP.? WHY??????????????????? I bought this planning on printing on card stock. I told the HP sales rep I wanted to print custom sizes on card stock, Had a long detailed discussion about it. I was assured I could . After looking further into the specs and reading reviews, I find out it will not handle anything heavier than 28 bond. WHY HP????? What the heck is wrong with your engineers? We have been asking for Printers that will print 11x17, Custom Sizes and card stock, HP adds a great feature than takes away another. I am calling HP and Canceling the order. Come On HP It can't be that difficult. Do you need to hire some engineers from a competitor?? FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!

I bought this specifically for 11 x 17 floor plans and it seems to be a great choice. Set up wasn't as smooth as I hoped but I have some Geek in me and I adjusted a couple of things and she works just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP OJ Pro 7740 great versatility, some drawbacks Overall, I'm quite pleased with the 7740. The "wide-format" refers to maximum page size up to 11 inches wide, 17 inches long. I've already found several projects where the larger paper size will be of great benefit. I often prepare charts, diagrams, and sometimes schematics. The added real estate allows me to improve readability of project by spreading things out a little, adding more detail, and/or using larger font sizes. Too this printer can print to smaller sheets, even envelopes. A couple of drawbacks that I have noticed...the scanner's ADF scans up to 8 1/2" wide documents and is one-sided only. To scan fronts and backs, the document to be scanned must be ran through the scanner twice. The other drawback is that the printer's blue ink is not as true blue as I would like. Other HP printers I have used print a much bluer blue. I am very pleased with the printer. It is fast. Produces generally great results. I'm hoping for several years of service from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One year later .....still great I've had this printer for just over a year with absolutely no problems at all. It took a few tries to figure out how the tabloid paper was supposed to be loaded in the bottom tray vs. feeding it, and it still takes some time figuring out some of the scanning features, but that's more user training than the printer itself. I love the ease of use overall, the wireless capability and how easy it is to print to it right from my phone. Only con is that it is larger and heavier than most printers these days, but it is very well made!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this, so fast and quality is excellent! Bought this to be able to scan larger images and I love everything about it. It is huge, which made me a little wary of it at first, but if you have space for it, it's like having an office printer at home! The wifi capabilities and options are way better than my older HP Envy, and it's very easy and intuitive to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some Terrible Problems What is MADDENING about this unit is that the scan bed is 11x17 but the widest the auto feeder will take is A4. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Also, I can't seem to get the scanner to scan at any higher dpi than 300 which is absolutely absurd. Not happy with this unit. I can't believe what poor design to have a wide format scanner but the auto feeder is TINY!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking poor scanner While i think this is a great looking machine the scanner is not capable of being fed by the feeder. If you have multiple page scans you must place each page by hand and scan individually. Also, there is no way to save a multi page scan to the PC via wireless - you have to use a memory stick to move the file. Archaic for a machine supposedly designed for business use. lastly, everything fed by the feeder is slightly crooked and i see no way to physically adjust it like on my last HP printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Misled!!!! I recently purchased this Wide Format all-in-one unit. Aside from printing 11 x 17 very slow, the problem was the product description was poor. ...This all-in-one printer has slow 11 x 17 printing, and whose auto feed feature for copying or scanning is only 8 1/2" wide. So a multipage 11 x 17 scan or copy must be manually put on the glass bed one at a time. How ridiculous is that! This was not clear in the description. Most people buying an 11 x 17 All-in-one needs ALL functions to be available for 11 x 17! This unit falls way short. I had to return it and pay $40 for shipping and and 20% restocking fee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent features at a good price Overall I'm quite happy with the quality and the seamless wireless operation of this printer with my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. My only complaints, which has been the case with this machine as well as my 2 previous HP printers: 1) When scanning with the top feed, images are usually skewed somewhat - useable but unprofessional-looking, and 2) When using card stock I can count on the printer to put a slight crimp at the top center of every sheet and it frequently mis-feeds if there's more than 1 sheet. With regular office printing on plain paper, everything looks great and the printer is reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very unhappy! Just purchased this model to replace an older HP printer. Purchased specifically for 11 x 17 paper. Thought it would be great to have two trays so one could have 8-1/2 x 11 (which I put in tray one). However, I cannot get printer to print to tray 2. It does not auto-select the paper size even though I have set up the trays, identifying which size paper is in each. Nor does the driver offer a way to manually select which tray to use. Nor can I find an explanation on-line or get info from HP support! I am ready to return this printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Ledger-Tabloid Size Printer I needed an 11x17 printer for my business and this fit the bill. Its only shortcoming is that it will only scan 11x17 documents by placing them under the glass - the document feeder only handles up to 11x14. It is connected wirelessly, which is a plus because I was running out of wired RG45 network connectors. I was able to scan an 11x17 document and maintain its correct scale, which is very important in site plans. It also gets upset if you don't have paper in both trays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spot on Perfect I have had this printer for 1 month I looked long and hard to find a machine that works like a tank or a watch that takes a beating and keeps on ticking Ok so the machine is a little big but not way to big. I can deal with the size in my small office because it will do everything I want need. Software is fine, easy to use. I can go from printing 8.5x11 to envelopes to 11x17 with ease. The machine holds much paper In short You can't buy a better printer to do all this especially for the price Most everywhere I go I look at the equipment in other offices and I see HP regularly. I ask about performance and get good reports almost every time I ask.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Very disappointed in HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. Have been very happy with multiple 11x17-capable HP printer models for over 25 yrs. Printer is too big with very awkward difficult-to-use paper trays. Poor alignment when printing checks apparently due to poor paper position control. Was much happier with previous printers where it was much easier to insert/print envelops and larger 11x17 paper via bypass slot(s). Seriously considering going to a different brand printer if HP does not address these issues!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terribly Built Printer -- Not Cost Effective We purchased this printer for business use and have used it for over one year. Our experience has been very negative. The printer frequently malfunctions, both due to hardware issues such as printer jamming and software issues such as compatibility issues with Microsoft office suite software and the printer's internal software freezing. With employees connecting to the printer using various versions of windows and/or MS office, we have found many of this printer's capabilities are inaccessible and there are issues with printed margins being off center. In addition, despite the advertisements, we have not found the ink cartridges cost effective since much of the ink is often wasted by self-maintenance and since the printer is incapable of printing black and white without also expending color ink, therefore forcing you to purchase double the number of cartridges expected. The inability to print black and white documents when even one color cartridge is empty is particularly frustrating as printing capability is lost if your color cartridges are not stocked even though you may have numerous black and white cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consistent HP quality, but ... I've been an HP printer/copier 'fan' for twenty years or more … have had and have a range of these devices including now three 'all-in-one' devices and a 24" wide plotter. I greatly appreciate the packaging, the simple set-up operating instructions (largely pictures!), the software … and the fairly consistent equipment design and quality characteristics. My one GRIPE with this 7740 model is the ridiculously small viewing screen -- it is almost enough reason for my returning the device. However, having the medium size format options for printing and scanning keep me hanging onto it. Other VERY IMPORTANT 'features' include the almost ALWAYS especially helpful customer service personnel -- these people have been a major determining factor in why I've stuck with this type of HP products. Also, the optional extended warranty is well worth considering -- especially well priced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Colors off, prints slowly and uses loads of toner I have used HP printers exclusively for over 25 years. My last one broke due to trying to use generic toner, and being an older model (K8600). I must be able to print 11x17 and there were not many models to choose from. I was happy to find a model that was $200. This printer is just "meh". The color cyan does not print true. The other colors are okay, but that one specifically is OFF. It takes a long time to print, but works better with .pdf files. My first batch of toner lasted about 300 prints. I thought maybe it was because it was an "introductory" size that came with the printer. I replaced with XL toner and I am already getting a low toner message after about 200 prints. I design a coupon magazine, so the pages are full color ads and full 11x17 prints. My old printer I would last about 2 full cycles before I had to change toner. I have already had to change yellow toner twice and I bought this printer in November 2018.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have never been this disgusted with a printer! I could not be more disappointed with this printer. Some of the problems I have experienced with this printer include: Paper not feeding Phantom jamming Work not printing or partially printing when interrupted by an ink change request Text not clear Broken images and lines over images on EXPENSIVE photo paper HP sent a new printhead and, while the quality of my printing has improved, it is still not what I have expected from HP over the years. I work in a business that requires high quality imaging and this printer has been the absolute worst, not to mention expensive in lost paper, for my work. In 30+ years of home printing, 90% of that being on HP printers, I have NEVER been this disgusted with a printer. HP Quality seems to be a thing of the past! If I could return this thing, I most certainly would!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far So Good... I previously owned the HP 7612 and had to buy a new printer only 2.5 years later because of the print heads failing. I bought the 7740 because I need to print 11X17 drawings and scan 11X17 drawings. Although my last HP printer failed, I like HP because of the print quality. The 7740 was a breeze to hook up- I was printing in 15 minutes. No issues with the hardware installation etc. and no issues scanning. It does not bother me that I have to left the lid to scan 11X17's. I think the print quality is great for the price. I do like that I can print with wider margins on the 7740 v. the 7612. The downside is that the ink costs half of what the printer does. Hopefully it lasts a while. I bought an extended warranty since the last printer died. I did not mark 'Excellent' because I have only had the printer for a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unusable driver software - impossible to deploy I bought Photosmart 5180/7180 a decade ago and their HP drivers had the same unbelievable frustrating limitation so that i could only manage to use these printers with Windows/Mac-OS provided drivers and web-scan, but not with HP software. Now i want to buy new printers, looking into officejet 7740 - and the same unbelievable frustrating limitation is still built into the software: I need to be able to install the software on Windows/Mac computers that are not on the same LAN as the printer. The network connection to the printer is of course perfect, i can access the printer via its web interface fine (and with windows/mac drivers it works fine too - they allow to enter IP address for a printer!). But when i start HP Easy Start and enter the IP address into the search field, i get: The 192.168.x.y IP address is not reachable. The IP address you provided is located on a different IP network and cannot be accessed from your Mac. Unbelievable. And that from a company that is selling networking equipment.

But seriously, despite reading several bad reviews on this printer, I went ahead and purchased this printer because I have never had a bad HP printer. This one does not let me down. I bought just for the wide format so that I could print legible CAD drawings of the custom wood furniture I build. Having good working plans is the first step in building a successful piece of furniture. After having used this printer for a few weeks and printed multiple sets of plans, I am more than satisfied with the quality of the printed plans. Thanks, HP, for another winning computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer I Love this printer. I bought it to replace a Officejet 7610 which I also love, but the scanner stopped working. My only complaint is the cost of replacing the ink cartridges. A cool $150.00 to replace all the cartridges. More than half the cost of the printer. HP shame on you for over charging the consumer on the ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide Format is worth the investment Easy set-up and install. Two paper trays. Multiple options on the scan function. The first attempt at each scan - message: there was a problem... So the scan usually works the second attempt. Sometimes a number of multiple pages must be scanned in 2 installments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer with lots of features. I bought this printer just over four weeks ago, and so far it has been great. I like being able to use letter, legal, and even tabloid size paper in it. The only thing that would make it better is if it was included in the Instant Ink program.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from printer works well printer is great. Need lots of 11x17 prints and printer works well. The only problem is that some originals are very faint so that the copies are too light also. Must be a way to darken the copy but it is not showing up in the viewer!! Prints and copies are good is the original is good. Great printer, great printer..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good printer I really like the printer. It has good features and good print quality. The only thing to know is that when you change the draw to hold 11x17 paper it will not close all the way. I wish it had an instant ink option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleased with this product - works for me! I am an old (79) retired architect. Still do small projects out of my home office. This printer allows me to work on drawings that are a great size for an old back (11x17) and print sets without having to go to a print shop. Would recommend it to any one who has a home business. Took some time to be able to use all features - it would help if the control screen (and the size of its messages) was larger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Auto Document Feeder for 11x17 Overall, this printer is good. I have been buying HP printers for over 30 years (and periodically have tried other manufacturers) and it is the typical quality printer with good features and was ultimately why I leaned to this printer over others. I own an Architectural firm and our biggest reason for selecting this printer (over others) was for the 11x17 copying, scanning and printing. However, to my mistake, I failed to read the auto document feature size was only 8.5"x17. This is where I think HP failed miserably. Why would they market and sell an 11x17 printer and not have all the features available for all the sizes of paper it can support, which is why I was dumbfounded when I went to copy and scan multiple 11x17 sheets and couldn't without placing one sheet at a time on the flat bed. Other manufacturers have 11x17 auto document feeders and this is why I give a 3 star. Very disappointed in this printer and with HP and will be buying another manufacturer's 11x17 printer that has an 11x17 auto document feeder. Trying to return this printer, but missed my return window. Another frustrating issue was the scan software defaults to 8.5" x 17" so when you scan 11x17 on the flat bed, you have to fight the software to save to 11x17 and there were a couple times it took me 5 minutes plus to get the software to scan and save an 11x17. HP - You have disappointed me for the first time in all my years of buying your products. Maybe i'll be back if you can fix that ADF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not worth the money The second tray is pointless, as it can only hold plain paper and cannot print borderless from the second tray. Also, the pages per minute is way off of the 17ppm for color, it states. It took 3 hours to print 100 sheets of color pages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP service I am a HP Rep through a Marketing Service. While working at a Large Member Store I recommended this printer to a Member that needed a large format printer. They do not carry this in the store or online. I know that when one considers the features, price, speed, trays, ink quanity, (952xl, and 956xl), there is NO large format, (up to 11x17), that compares with this printer. The Big Store Member came back to me thrilled, not only with his purchase, but the quality of the Customer Service, and warranty offered. I was just glad to be a part!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Operator, Crisp Prints I needed wide format printing for an upcoming project. My last wide-format stopped working because it was parked beside a brick wall that shed mortar particles all over it. That was an HP, and I'm sorry I subjected it to bad conditions. HOWEVER, this baby is a far better animal. Operates smoothly, duplexes even 11x17 like a charm, is quiet and fast as a mouse, and the two trays (one for standard, the other for 11x17 or 12x19) have really helped speed up my workflow. Terrific addition to the HP Officejet line!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This printer is junk! I’ve had this for one week and I’ve had issues right out of the box. I’m using a new Mac computer connected to the print by USB. It constantly says the printer is offline or not connected. When I do get it to print it won’t clear the print queue, so it won’t print anything else until you shut it down and unplug it. I’ve unplugged this printer so many times I’ve lost count. Called tech support today and he said it will only print wirelessly with a Mac. Otherwise it will only print 1 page. That seems ridiculous. Why put on the box it is compatible with a Mac. When I told him he was no help and I would be returning it he told me “he really didn’t care”. That’s excellent customer service right there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast easy printing - letter and tabloid I bought this printer for my home office during HP's January sale. It was incredibly easy to set up and works well for my printing needs. The only drawback I have found is that the tabloid paper drawer is not meant to close all the way - that is how the larger paper size is designed to fit. Therefore the drawer extends out the front of the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent wide format printer for the price I recently bought this printer. It was easy to set up as a home network printer. This is a wide format printer which has all of the features that I use. It can print up 11 x 17 pages as well as print photos. It is also a great scanner and fax. Set up was easy to do for a home network. The wireless feature makes attachment to the home router easy without the need for cables.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a beast! The printer is rather heavy so be ready for that. It has strong and sturdy construction. Very easy to set up. Easy to connect (I used the ethernet port and gave it a wired connection). the Fax setup is also nice. Ours is connected to the regular phone line we have and the machine has a manual answer mode. That way our callers don't get the annoying fax tone when trying to leave us a message. The print quality is top notch. The one minor complaint I have is the autofeed tray only has an 8.5 inch scanner on it, so if you want two sided scanning of the tabloid paper, you will need to manually do it from the flatbed. Our older brother printer could two side scan tabloid in the autofeed. However the price of that printer is much higher than the HP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So I Guess You Could Say... not that long ago I was quite happy when I purchased an HP printer that when I plugged it into my laptop it did all the things I needed it to do it printed and if I flip the paper just the right way it would print back to back. Not to mention the fact that working color as well as in black and white, and gave me some quality prints whether I use light draft black and white, or best copy in color. That unit lasted me for several years and only recently did I feel I needed to get a new one. So I went out and bought the 7740 on sale as a matter of fact. And I don't want to say that I don't know why I love the first one so much. But I do want to shout from the rooftops I'm enamored of beyond measure with this new model. Don't have to plug in the cable. Makes wonderful copies in black and white or color. Does front and back printing all by itself. I can print via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth! And the time it takes, or should I say the time it cuts, in my day-to-day work is significantly measurable. So I guess you could say I'm quite happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHEN it works, it’s great I spent more than usual on this printer because I was tired of fighting with cheap ones and it’s been nothing but trouble. It regularly goes offline and I have to fight for 30 minutes or more trying to figure out how to get it back. Sometimes it goes offline immediately after printing!! The HP app does nothing to help. If I go to the forum, I get all kinds of tech speak about my router/WiFi. I am not stupid, but I’m not a tech genius either. I just want to be able to print!!! Guess I’ll go back to Canon. What a waste of $300. (Pretty impressed I was able to write this review without swearing!)

First, the screen is too tiny. I have small fingers and I have trouble using the touch screen. After 2 days of use I recommended this printer to my entire department who are working from home (most bought one). 9-days later the printer head failed. Staples will not help which means I have to find a service shop during a pandemic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 printers failed before first set of cartridges Our 7740 failed before we used half the ink up in the first set of cartridges. HP had us send it back and sent a refurbished printer which had major issues with print quality. We were calling tech support every other use because it would loose connection with the network. Last time we called tech support it was because it wouldn't work with one of the computers on our network. They screwed it up so bad that it wouldn't work with any one of our computers. Then they told me to pay to have someone come out and repair my network. Ended up not being the network so it ended up costing us even more money. Two printers, less than one set of cartridges, all in the trash. Poor technical support, poor print quality, overall just a poor product. We will avoid buying anything from HP again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup, great features, picky software Unit works great, delivers quality prints and copies. I have 2 units, one on a windows 10 machine and one on a windows 7 machine. The windows 7 version of the software does not utilize the auto tray management therefore you have to pick which tray you want to use paper from. Also, the flatbed copying can be picky if your copy and paper don't exactly match. Can be worked around though. Overall, great machine for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer I needed this to print for work (at home) and it works great. ONLY THING IS, when you put 11x17 paper in, the tray has to stock out 3-4 inches. Not a deal breaker but costed this review ONE STAR... But other than that, great printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 11 x 17 printer that does not scan 11 x 17 This is unbelievable that you design and built a 11 x 17 printer that does not scan 11 x 17. I am an architect that works in 11 x 17 format through all design processes. I am dumb founded that you can only scan 8 1/2 x 14. I need to exchange this ASAP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product! I like the large printing/scanning option (8x14) and that the HP app allows editing on scanned documents. It's working great so far and produces great image quality. The only cons are the loud grating noise when scanning on the glass, and the guidance on the top of the printer does not secure a straight document scan. I try to hold the guide to get it as straight as possible, but it's often is slightly crooked or has a line on the side which is a bit frustrating as I do a lot of scanning. The HP app does allow for editing which helps. It also grabs documents easier if they are broken up into small stacks, not to capacity. Overall, despite the small issues I found, the all-in-one works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lines on Print For the price, it's nice to have this behemoth to do all sorts of things for you, and the setup is easy. However, I got this to make color prints where quality matters, and on full ink, it constantly has lines across the page. Will be returning. If just for simple home/office use, go for it! But if you're looking for quality prints, this ain't it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printer is Not Compatible with US Inks This printer was a waste of money. As soon as we ran out of ink and tried to replace it, we discovered that the printer was not compatible with 'our region' and therefore not of the inks we could purchase in the US would work with the printer. After waiting on hold for an HP technician, we were told that the pro=inter required an update patch which needed to be done from a PC. Since we are an office on Mac, we were unable to update the software and therefore the printer is unusable. It is brand new and we cannot use it. We have tried to return to to HP with no response. I will never purchase another HP product again and I certainly do not recommend this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After only one month, no issues. It's only been one month, give or take a few days. Easy to set up, Easy to use. Prints very fast for a home use computer. It's much more expensive than the printers I usually buy, but we finally tired of the typical "Throw Away" home use printer and their consistent failures. I also do a bit of 'Work From Home' computer drafting and need the 11 x 17 size paper capability. We decided to go with a more robust machine and we got one, still, judging within the Home Use category. I would not consider the HP 7740 for an office printer except for a dedicated desk top printer for one user. It's just not powerful enough for what we put our shared printers through at work. We sometimes print 400 to 500 pages of 11 x 17 in a day.

I'm otherwise just using it to print things off for my home business. It was a DREAM to set up. This was the EASIEST set-up for a new printer that I've ever had. There's a video screen where you can choose to watch little animated videos whenever you get stuck and need help, and they're actually helpful! Who would've guessed. The thing is MASSIVE. Be ready to have a place to put it. Other than that, I am in love.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer, touchy screen I have had this printer about a month now and use it frequently as my two sons are doing virtual schooling. It’s very fast printing and easy to use. I would have given it five stars, but one concern is the touch panel screen. My previous HP printer made it nine years. I feel like I’m already “babying” this one and don’t feel like the touch screen will make it that long. Hoping I’m wrong.

The ability to not only print in large format, but also scan larger items is a very nice feature. All in all it is a very good printer. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frustrating I just got this new printer and it reminds me how more frustrated I get with hp each time a try a new product. Such a long way from the rpl calculators we all came to love. I get a new printer. Try to print not a photo. Gives me an error message. Won’t print it. I go on line for help. No way to find anyone to talk to or email. Only ‘virtual’ assistant that knows nothing about my problem. 2 hours into this and I could throw my new printer across the room. Is there any live help in hp anymore?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice but room for improvement Parts are great, other parts lacking. Large bed scanner but limited auto-feeder which means you can not feed in 11" x 17" documents. Love that it copies both sides at once. I can only scan from the computer as I can not figure out how to start a scan from the machine. Software help messages are worthless and online documentation is lacking in details. I like that it works with all computers and cell phones in the house but as just noted this means installing software on all devices. Scan editing software is lacking in clarity as low res scans are used for editing and repeated tasks like large paper or two sided scans can not be set up with shortcuts. Fast and sharp printing but I have had trouble printing from PDF files as some lines disappear. Not sure what that is about at all. For the price it is hard to recommend because of the limitations but it is almost the only 11" x 17" flatbed scanner left on the market by HP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not print the way you want it to You would think that a printer that is touting as having borderless properties and image printing capabilities would be able to print according to the margins you set in your software, but apparently this printer likes to take this into it's own hands. You cannot control the margins you set, by default, you will have to modify your images to what the printer wants the margins to be. My address labels which require a specific margin, are automatically set to be half an inch less, because it thinks I want it there, which I don't. My business cards, which require a specific margin are automatically set to be a centimeter to the left and up, rending the result unusable for my needs. This is not a professional printer, and I cannot recommend it's use for what it claims to be able to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its a fine printer, but the software is clunky I had a brothers multi function printer. It was cheap and worked for 10 years. I expect this one will also work a similar amount of time, but I am already not enthused with the software. They could just really make it easier to use and more direct to the functions of the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this printer We needed a printer capable of 11 x 17 printing and chose this to replace our older printer. The colors are much brighter than our old all-in-one and we love being able to print on 11 x 17. We also like the single-pass double-sided scanning feature, and being able to scan directly to any computer in our house from the front control panel. If I were to change one thing, I would add a larger display as my eyes are getting old :)

The printer quality is awesome as far as the colors of the images and the ability to print 11"×17" (Tabloid) pages is a huge plus! The setup was super easy, and we probably haven't discovered everything about it yet but it's awesome right now. I highly recommend this item, and its price wasn't bad either considering that you would pay a lot more for other printers with the same quality and features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Setup was not easy. The printer is much bigger than I was expecting even after reviewing the specs. Tech support has not been able to assist with setup. Though the printer is in my network it’s not going through the router. Called internet provider and they said the ports are open for the printer. HP support still can’t connect it. Very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally an affordable wide format fall-in-one I purchased this printer to replace outdated HP9800 wide format and HP8600 Officejet printers due to wireless connection limitations and a failing printhead. This OfficeJet Pro 7700 printer is an effective replacement for both. IT has an 11x17 scanner, and dual trays allowing 8.5 x 11 and 11x17 paper to be ready for use all the time. This is the affordable printer I have been waiting for for more than 20 years. It was easy to set up, and works flawlessly with our home wireless network. Also takes much less desk space than the old printers. Very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Printer I Ever Owned... but... I recently purchased a new HP OJP 7740 when for some strange reason, my 3-year-old OJP 7400 began asking for my "user name" and "pasword" before it would print a job. It also locked me out from re-setting the printer back to the factory default, informing me that I had to contact the administrator who initially installed the printer (which was me!). Then it mysteriously stopped receiving my home wf-fi signal, which made it impossible for me to connect to my Macbook Pro and fix. I contacted HP and was told that the printer was out of warranty, and would cost me $99 to get HP technical support. My old HP 7400 only cost $179 on Amazon, so I didn't want to pay $99 to fix it. I loved this printer so much -- coupled with the fact that I still have about 15 various HP 952XL toner cartridges on hand -- that I ordered a brand new HP OJP 7400 from HP directly. Before that I searched the usual office equipment retailers for this printer, but all were out of stock and I was afraid HP had discontinued this model. I received the new 7400 within two days and set it up with help from 90 minutes phone call with an HP technical support in the Philippines. Thanks to help from the HP tech person, I learned enough to also fix my old HP 7400 using an Ethernet connection to my Macbook Pro. Now I have two of these printers, and I'll keep the old one for back-up. This is truly a great printer, and the only problem I've ever experienced was when the old 7400 started asking me for a user name and password to print a page of paper. Printed pages come out beautifully, and the colors are very realistic. I print a monthly 11" x 17" double-sided newsletter for my Manhattan co-op apartment building, and they always turn out great... and never have a paper jam. Over the years I have recommended the 7400 to a number of friends who need a high-quality and reliable wide-format printer, and all of them have been pleased with their purchases. The fix to my old HP 7400 was very simple with an Ethernet connection, and was certainly not worth $99. My only regret is that HP doesn't provide FREE technical support beyond the 1-year warranty... even to HP shareholders, such as myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Giant Paperweight My husband insisted on this printer. It worked fine on all of our devices and our laptops for a year and then nothing. Now it only works with his iPad. I spent 1.5hours talking to tech support and it worked with my mac and my iPhone for 48 hours, hasn't worked with my husband's Dell. So now it's a giant paperweight. I haven't been able to call back tech support because they are only available during normal working hours. Hours that I work. This has been the most expensive and least useful printer I've ever had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome printer. Bad scanner lid hinge. I really like this printer and the option for wide format printing and 17" paper as well as photo printing. It works really great. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars for this one is the lid for scanner hangs up and hinge makes a loud popping noise before going all the way up. I exchanged it and they both did the same thing. I talked with the technician and he said the hinge will most likely break at some point but they are all like this it seems until HP acknowledges the defect and replaces the hinge. I end up purchasing the 3 year post warranty because I know it will eventually break. Also, the new software makes you use the HP smart application which won't work with my windows 10 computer but it works well with all my windows 11 computers. Other than that it really is a great printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will not scan to server Bought this as a replacement to my OfficeJet Pro 8740 which was discontinued. I was told that this was the closest replacement and had the same functions. Well, wrong. This printer will not scan to a server. It requires a PC with the full drivers to be installed and running. You can scan to the PC and then need to copy the file to the server. In addition the scaning is much slower. The 8740 is PCL6 and this printer is PCL3! So this printer is older than the discontinued 8740, slower, fewer functions, and will give errors loading the drivers on Windows 11 but ignoring the errors will work. HP is not the company to buy printers from anymore. I am moving my customers to Brother printers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardware okay but print drivers are deplorable! Purchased HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format after 14 months with support trying to get M577, M479 printer to scale properly, fit to one page wide and interpret true type fonts of Peachtree (Sage) Accounting software pervasive database with retrieve. HP sales and tech support said I would need to go to an inkjet product to gain the scale functions and print compatibility of prior HP OfficeJet Premium 6700 as PCL6 was not going to do the job. Received this printer to find, guess what...the incompatible PCL6 printer drivers. Microsoft and others in the industry have confirmed the PCL6 is not backward compatible as HP STATES ON THEIR PRINTER PCL6 MARKETING. I have forwarded the information to HP. HP has been well aware of issues of compatibility of PCL6 backward compatibility. In addition, this printer as an inkjet is built on a "completely different technology" than laser printers. However, I find the same PCL6 drivers software. There is no scaling to less than 100% in the software driver as I was told. There is no check box to fit to one page wide as I was told. Simply put the HP OfficeJet Premium 6700 had far more functionality and compatibility than this EXPENSIVE printer. No word from HP engineering on providing truly compatible drivers. While I believe the hardware may be okay, it is useless without intelligent print drivers with proper ESC codes to interpret for example Times New Roman.TTF as WYSIWUG instead of printing to the default courier 10 font. The documentation for HP printers purchased in the last 15 months also indicate a lack of good technical documentation to configure these printers. As a result I have spent more time getting to know tech support in the last months than the last 35 years. Oh--- and lets not forget the legacy print drivers this system was designed for like Windows XP and MacOS El Capitan are prohibited from being detected by the HP web site. Manually selecting them will get you only a generic driver because HP does not support them... and I can only say...how many times have I called tech support over driver issues in the last 35 years for these drivers....ZERO. In order to recommend this printer, HP must provide proper drivers for all operating systems and must provide older print drivers which likely worked but don't know as they are not available to test.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recycled Carts are Blocked Ever since it did it's own firmware update all my recycled ink carts have stopped working properly. The printer reports warnings of potential damage to the printer, the print quality is very poor, and the ink levels are incorrect - furthermore, there it reports other errors and stops printing altogether. This has ONLY happened since an automatic update. So, do no buy this printer if you plan to use third party carts, which I don't blame anyone considering the absolutely stupid prices originals are.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide Format Printer My HP OJP 7740 performs as expected. The only issue I encountered was it wouldn't recognize my 11" x 17" paper for printing. It worked one day, then the next day the problem developed. This was noted on various web comments I had read prior to my purchase but the other manufacturers' equipment had similar types of problems. I contacted HP service to about the problem and the technician initiated a "fix" that resolved my issue. The solution was to select "glossy paper" and not the "plain paper" I had in the tray. To me this sounded like a design flaw, but the printer now works and has been for several weeks without any problems. I would suggest HP look into this issue because I am not the only person to have this situation occur when using this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low cost but no replacement for a decent laser. This was purchased for a small satellite office. We have a requirement to print 11x17 and is one of the few that will use that size at an affordable cost. That is the high point. It will not scan to e-mail. It will not scan to a UNC path. Most of the advanced features require an always on internet connection which does not work behind my proxy server and firewall. The print speed and quality are acceptable, but nothing to win awards. Only one of the paper cassettes holds a full 500 sheet pack of paper and if you want to put 11x17 in the 2nd paper cassette, it forces you to extend the cassette so it is not contained in the normal footprint of the printer (and it is ugly)

The set-up was easy, the two paper trays are so convenient, and the print speed very good. The Con - it does not pick-up and print envelopes. I always print in color, which is a little slower than black and white, but the print speed is fine.

I actally bought a second one for my college children, for projects and such. They love it too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I miss my late, lamented HP 7610. but... The second printer that I ever owned was the original HP Deskjet, and I never considered another brand for many years. The HP OfficeJet 7610 was my fifth HP printer, and was as perfect a match for my needs as I could have asked for. A little over a year ago, when I had to buy a replacement, HP no longer supported Super B size printing, so I reluctantly bought an Epson WF-7720. That way I could still print on Super B. I use the OpenSUSE operating system on my HP computers, and the Linux interface for the Epson was a pain. Neither HP nor Epson officially supports Linux, but HPLIP is remarkable for easy setup and operation. The OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a fine printer: I just wish I could print Super B occasionally. P.S. I also appreciate having the on-off switch on a white panel so that you can see it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Tier Home Office Printer I work from home since the COVID pandemic started and as an engineer I use project drawings in much of my work. We know most work these days emphasizes digital uses of documents but sometimes paper is far more effective and useful especially in field work and that for drawings, 11x17 tabloid size are a minimum. I have been looking around at home office printers for a while to find one that will effectively print 11x17 (tabloid) size pages. This HP OfficeJet 7740 absolutely hit the mark with regard to automated size selection, utility, paper capacity, duplex printing and print quality. HP has managed to isolate and provide just the individual workgroup components necessary for an effective, easy to use, workhorse home office printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So disappointed... Sorry this was such a terrible experience. Not usually so with HP. It’s so hard to reach help. When I finally reached a person, they would transfer me to the recording that would send me away. Website couldn’t help and the recording would say “bye” and hang up. I called several times until a PERSON came on the line. Unable to help she sent a replacement. Same model different problem. Same ordeal trying to reach a person who could help. I asked the first human I finally got to send me a return label. I really need a printer and I do like HPs so I ordered one today from HP. This is their very last chance to get it right. I’m too old for this and my husband is older and already done with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Double-sided ADF is great, print quality is okay. We bought this wide-format printer to be able to print/scan legal 11x17" sheets which it can. The paper tray to hold the larger size paper does jut out of the bottom so you'll need quite a bit of space to place the printer. The first couple prints had this long bar of ink running from top to bottom on the side of the page which was a bit annoying but the other text was still legible. Overall the printer is doing fine. The computer app "HP Smart" seems a little buggy sometimes but I like how it allows you to delete white blank pages from scans. I also like how the auto-document feeder scans both sides of the sheet without having to sit there and individually scan each one on the glass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some disappointment I’ve owned several HP wide format printers. While this one has the requisite large scanning area and a second paper drawer, it does not print on card stock. Seems like a drawback for a printer that probably will be used for art and other projects. Also the program that runs the printer is slower.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 7740W- Great concept AND already outdated I found my 7740W sluggish in comparison to my previous HP 8600. There were ongoing software issues that made for several calls to HP tech support. I have since found out that this printer, purchased direct from HP at the beginning of last month, is already outdated, known to have issues, and is no longer offered. In the end, I am returning the 7740 for a different HP as recommended by the supervisor of tech support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ok Printers...But CONTROL WINDOW is TOO TINY We bought 3 of these for a home business. They work OK, print on larger paper and are cheap. BUT, if you need to print larger sizes, HP has few printers that do and they go from this cheap model to MUCH more expensive. I cannot stress how small this control window is to see or try to touch the virtual keypad, select frequently used options, etc. This control window should be at least 2X the size, 3 X the size would be nice. I understand cost cutting, but it even appears to have a larger area on the case set for a display...and then HP put this tiny one inside of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Regularly loses network connection I need a reliable printer. That’s the most important thing to me, so I’ve relied on HP printers for decades. This printer has good quality printing and convenient second tray that I keep full of 11x17 paper, but it regularly drops the network connection (WiFi & Ethernet). This can be resolved by disconnecting the Ethernet or connecting the Ethernet. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so fast to buy HP in a market full of possibly better competitors.

Also the way you have to keep adjusting the length of the paper size is also frustrating. If the paper is being taken from the back of the paper tray, then why does the length matter. I can see if you were changing to a legal size paper but not on any other size that is smaller than letter size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wifi printer that never wakes up without restart I hesitated to buy another HP wifi printer because of problems with the printer never waking up without a power off and on cycle. I had a HP LaserJet color printer and replaced it with this one, and it has the same problem. I have researched HP support pages, HP virtual assistants and numerous tech forums. Not one solution has worked for more than a day. Uncheck use printer offline. Use a fixed IP address. Turn IPv6 on. Turn IPv6 off. Reinstall the driver. Install the printer as an IP address. I don't have the luxury of moving the wifi router within 5 feet of the printer, and I can't connect every device in the house to the printer with a cable. Honestly, what is the point of a wifi printer that doesn't wake up? HP is supposed to be a respected name in printer technology. Fix this problem! As far as the rest of the features go, they're fine. It's quieter than the laser jet was. I was going to print on glossy paper, but I can't because my new printer is in another "Error State". HP Smart tells me I can't print photos because the printer driver isn't fully installed. I click to install, and it says complete. When I click on "print photos" it takes me back to the same message that my printer is not fully installed! It scans fine, but I found it's easiest to scan to a USB stick because HP Smart is not communicating with the printer. I had a tabloid scanner and intended to replace it with this to free up desk space, by having the this all-in-one in another part of the room. If it weren't for the connectivity problems, this all-in-one met my needs. I do illustration work on the side and wanted the tabloid size scanning and printing. The ink doesn't smudge easily, even when wet. Which could be nice for adding a little watercolor to a print out. I really wanted to like this printer, but I am sick of the connectivity problems with HP printers! It's not just with Windows 10. The same problems occur with our MacBook Pro. I am going to ship this back before my 30 days are up and try another company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meets My Expectations, as HP Has Always Done I purchased this printer specifically for the 11 x 17 printing, and the duplexing capability, that's it. I was not interested in the faxing, as I do that from my desktop with ease. I was not worrying about scanning, as I have a Canon, wide-body scanner. I definitely did not want to put it on the network, to have to worry about another device connected, to be concerned about. I am fully aware that printer hacks have been an historical issue, allowing hackers to break into otherwise secure networks. People relax on security for a printer, saying it is 'only' a printer, no big deal. I have to say that this printer is not large, it is HUGE! This printer absolutely takes up a LOT of space, so you had definitely better have a VERY large area to put it in, which is solidly built. I say 'solidly built' as this printer does have vibration movement, when it is printing, which I have never had in a printer before, of any type. Since I was doing zero networking, or plugging into phone line, I had a 'set-up', which lasted at the most five minutes (after having had put in print cartridges/paper). Yes, the control panel is small, but it is larger than the display that I have on my big laser printer, and on my other HP printer. I had no problem seeing things on the panel, and the touch control worked perfectly. I plugged a USB cable into the back, plugged in the power cord, pressed the power button, and went through the set-up options, doing no networking. The printer keeps flashing the network symbol, but I don't care about that. The printer printed out the test page, and in the meanwhile, my system had already recognized the printer and had installed it. I printed a test page, and a publication, with no problem, including doing a double sided print, and printing an 11 x 17. Will have to say that the printer is slightly noisy when printing also. One thing that did happen when the system was setting the printer up. It stated that it could not find a driver for the HP7740. Windwos 10 selected the 'HP PCL3 B-size Printer Class Drive' as the driver for the printer. I found that out by looking at the printer properties. The printer works, doing the duplexing/11 x 17 printing, and printing quickly, all appears to be normal, so I won't fool with it, worrying about a 7740 specific driver. Now it is a wait and see, as to the longevity of the printer! I did buy the two year 'care plan' though, as a just-in-case, as I do with all major purchase electronic type items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward but getting more cumbersome. First and foremost, I come from the standpoint that there is no perfect printer. With that established, here we go. The OJP7740 is large. Even compared to other 11x17 inkjets with ADF heads, it's still large. The onscreen printer settings are pretty straightforward. As is the printer dashboard installed on your PC* Here's the bad side: HP really REALLY wants you to install all the bells and whistles which involves a smart (i.e. monitored) ink subscription. One annoyance when installing the sw is my computers show up 4-5 times on the printer's touchscreen when choosing "scan to such n such computer". This is even with the "basic" sw install. So the once-straightforward software is headed in the wrong direction. The other thing to make not of is the ADF will NOT feed 11x17. If you need to copy the 11x17 sheet you just printed out, you need to use the glass. So far for my people, it's a non-issue. So far. *I've yet to set this up and really work it on a Mac. I suspect it works very much in the same way as my personal OJP. That is, forget the HP software and learn to use the Mac-native Image Capture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to the Drawing Board with this one! **ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE PRODUCT DO NOT BUY** My company has now purchased two of these printers over the last six months, each time we have purchased one it works great for about 3-4 Months and then the issues begin to arise. The printer will stop printing randomly during the day causing us major headaches. I navigate to my printer settings and see that I am still connected to the printer that I've been printing on all day. I check the queue and see that there is something there that stats there's an error. I clear the queue and try again. Boom...another error. Okay it's going to be one of those days. Time to try the Ol' turn it on and turn it off again plan. That seems to work about 13.66% of the time. When the turn it on, turn it off doesn't work I guess it's time to move to removing it from my device and reconnecting to it. In reality, this seems likes logical idea. Let's try to reboot the connection of the two devices, let's try to reconnect the devices to the same router. Great ideas on paper, the problem occurs when you can no longer connect to this printer sent from the underworld. Over the past month, I come into work knowing I am about to have a UFC Heavy Weight title fight with this printer and it's going to go all five rounds. Unfortunately for me the judges seem to be in favor of this godforsaken printer and I lose the title fight Every. Single. Time. Does anyone at HP understand what it's like to stand toe to toe with this demonic machine for FIVE five minute rounds. I'm going to assume no, and yes I do know what they say about assuming. It's the same thing they say about the people that designed this monster they are trying to pass as a printer. It has gotten to the point where I am trying to connect to the printer using the secure WPS code that it generates. The code appears on the screen, I write the code down, I type the code into my computer while trying to connect to the printer and you guessed it, the code was incorrect and I cannot connect to the HP OfficeJet Less-than-Pro 7740 Good-for-Nothing Printer. I might suggest to my work place that we move away from this product and go back to an easier time. I believe I may have more success printing on the Johannes Gutenberg 001 OG Printing Press. Sure it may be a bit more time consuming, but at least I know that I will obtain my final product. A little elbow grease is something I would sacrifice in order to never have to see this satanic printer again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP Office Jet Pro 7740 I always have used HP Office Jet Pro All-in-one ink jets printers in the past. I purchased this one not too long ago because it can scan 11 x 14 documents, along with using large XL ink cartridges, and has two paper trays. The software works great with my 27" iMac running OS Ventura 13.2.1. Our other Apple products share this printer on our Wi-Fi network at home. Not sure how I would get along without it, a major asset for home office use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well considered all-in-one for home/light office use. This is a great home printer for engineering work. Tabloid print (and scan) is my main reason for buying. I like having two trays, one for Letter and one for Tabloid. Printing is very fast and teh output is surprisingly sharp/crisp, even on standard paper. I only have two very minor complaints. One, the scanner can scan Tabloid but it will not autofeed (8.5" max width). Along the same line, Letter only seems to print along the 8.5" orientation and you must pull out the little paper catch tab or it will fall to the floow.. My previous (non HP) All-in-One printed the wide side of letter (and not fall on the floow) and auto scan would pull tabloid. Now, my big hope is that the heads won't clog when sitting for a few months in my office - so far so good but I am trying to print every few days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will not print 11x14 I love my HP OfficeJet 5255 8.5 x 11 format. I want to print larger format so ordered OJPro 7740. Product specs state that it will print sizes up to 11x17 inches. Would not print 11 x 14 (a standard photo album size) because no driver is available. Terrible oversight by HP. Find me a driver and I will reorder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer I picked this printer up to do 11x17's since we have been working from home, and it prints beautifully. I do CAD design work, and having a larger print to look at is a huge asset to me. The overall size of the printer is large, and if you are cramped for space, you might want to take some measurements. Also, to use 11x17 paper, one of the feed trays needs to be adjusted and will then stay partially open.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 The machine itself is fine. I upgraded from an HP 5740 which was at least 10 years old. I guess I like things to be simple. The function I use the most (scan to email) isn't simple. If I use the scan button, I can only scan into my computer, and then pull it out and send. The work around is to go to apps and then find scan to email. The biggest disappointment is this model is not supported by Instant Ink. I was accustomed to ink arriving as needed versus going out to purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent Printer, Horrible Ink Yield I purchased this 11x17 printer for home office use, as i needed wide format printing for engineering plans. Printer quality is more than acceptable for text and regular quality images, and scanning (with some setting adjustments) is decent. The ink yield is HORRIBLE. I think i got ~200 pages out of the standard ink cartridges, so no where close to the estimated ~700 or so quoted on the website. It's somewhat ok for me as i print infrequently, but absolutely go with a laser if you print a lot, this unit is not worth it.

I print a lot of 11 x 17, a lot of photo paper, many enveloppes with great success. Having multiple paper trays for different sizes and being able to use large format paper is fantastic. Scan functions when doing so manually using HP Smart from a computer are very limited. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printing is fine, scanning is painful I work from home and get to process a lot of 11x17 papers during the day. Printing is fine, however scanning is very tricky, expecially with 11x17 format. First, when I want to scan from printer touchscreen, it only scans the from the flatbed, even if the document feeder is loaded. I work around that by using the computer software but it takes more time. Second, scanning 11x17 is an absolute pain. By default it scans 8x14 on the flatbed even if I put 11x17 paper. I tried using "detect content on page" or even "scan entire area" but it will crop my 11x17 sheet. The only way it works is to manually input a custom 11x17 size. The last issue that I have with this printer is the speed. To print one document is fine, but if I want to print another document after I've printed something, I have to wait a solid 2 minutes before the second document starts printing. Very time consuming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Software is lacking I upgraded from a HP 7610, which I loved dearly. The printer head died after several years, and so I moved to the HP 7740. Although it does not have drivers for XP, I had to move software to my Win10 machine. As others have pointed out, the Scan feature is just not what it was. 11x17 doesn't scan without a few tweaks hear and there, so when you're scanning multiple images, it just takes a while to tweak each one. It does print well, and scans 8.5x11 well too. Just the interface needs a lot of work. Go back and look at the 7610 and get a few pointers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Small/Home Office Workhorse! So far, absolutely love this printer! Exceptional quality print, wide format allows for large (11x17) prints, document scanner/copier is quiet, smooth and crystal clear. I would definitely recommend for a small business, home business, or in my case, executor of a family member's estate. I do wish it could support InstantInk! Frankly a little surprised it does not so I have to be mindful of ink levels (unlike my two other HP printers).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't work as advertised Returned after 3 days and $20 wasted in paper. Bought solely for printing 11x17 brochures, the first side prints fine but the second side is always crooked. It does not work as advertised and they have no other options when I called the sales number.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst scanning function Worst scanning function ever. I was told this all-in-one worked exactly like the HP 8740 but wide format. We scan to a server and this will not scan to a file server. You must install a huge HP print driver and the scanner will only scan to a PC with this software except you must control the scan from the PC. You can't install the driver on any Windows Server software. Absolute waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst printer/scanner I have owned Probably my 10th printer purchase and is the worst so far. I'd take my 2005 printer any day over this huge paper weight. From the horrible APP, to faulty cartridge replacement, to poor quality of printing, etc. Scanner has to send my documents through 2 times before it will actually scan. First scan always comes back with a fault. And $130 for ink replacement with very few pages printed. I'll buy anything but HP from here on out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide Format All-in-One Printer A great printer/copier. Just what I needed for my craft projects at home. It enlarges, reduced and will print on 11x17" paper, which works just fine for me. Sorry it took me so long to be able to enjoy this wonderful printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable printer with only minor issue of not enough paper drawers. This is a very versatile printer meeting the needs to print on 11x17 paper as well as 8.5 x11 and envelopes. I just whish there was a third paper drawer so that 8.5x11, envelopes and 11x17 paper can all be used without having to change paper trays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall, other than stated above, it seems so far to be a great printer. I bought this a little over a month ago and was surprised by the following: 1) the 11x17 paper tray provided would not hide the full paper size like my earlier HP wide format model; 2) the advised #G5J38-60114 tray that is supposed to handle full 11x17 sheets and related extra cost for same cannot be found by contracting HP; I will never use the 11x14 size; other than 8.5 x 11, my application is for 11x17 engineering drawings .... lots of them. The rest, so far, is great!

Last week i pulled the cartriges out to look at the head, putting them back in and now it says their empty, they were almost full when i took them out.

Cons: - Hard to set up with pre-installed software on an HP laptop. Too many HP apps, hard to keep straight. - HP didn't get warranty info right, they started warranty 2 months before I bought printer from HP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer - lousy software Probably one of HP's better printers due to it's lower reliance on their terrible HP Smart software. Disappointing the control panel is smaller than the earlier 8600 series which were great. They could make the scan to email setup a little simpler, but overall a good, robust printer for the home or office. We have two of them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NO INK There was barely any ink in the cartridges and this office jet pro is "not eligible" for the ink subscription. We also have had more paper jams in a short amount of time than we ever had with the Office Jet 9010 all in one. All the printers should qualify for the instant ink. Total inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Happy I love the printer but I found out the hard way that it is not compatible with 5 ghz wi-fi. I spent hours on the phone with tech support and they concluded that the wi-fi access to the printer will only work with 2.4 ghz. I am going to use it with a USB cable. This is not what I prefer, but I need the wide format printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice but a bummer about the 11x17 paper tray. So far, it is meeting my expectations. I must say I am disappointed in the 11x17 tray that it sticks out. It looks unprofessional and allows for dust to get into the drawer. There should at least be a cover attachment to place over the open tray. The option is to not keep paper in the tray until needed. I may have chose a different printer had this been disclosed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Streak damaged prints! The printer works reasonably well, but the photos that it produces are very flawed. The prints are disgraced by the streaks that are left behind by the printing process. The printer doesn't run smoothly and the start and stop of the printer, I think leaves the unsightly lines in the photos. I would never give away a photo produced by this printer. The end product fails the smell test. And there is no where around where I live to get it fixed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good While It Lasts :) Replacing a 3.5 year old same model - plastic roller parts & hinge on printer cover broke. In spite of that we chose to purchase another one since the print quality is very good, particularly for the 11x17 landscape designs I print for my business. It scans multiple pages in the feeder well too, although they're often slightly crooked. Wireless easy to setup w/computers, simple to save to thumbdrive, HP Smart helpful app, controls are intuitive. Overall we're happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP OfficeJet 7740 Wide-Format AIO The printer is very good and was easy to install and setup. The only issue is that the lower paper drawer remains open if you place 11x17 paper into it. The printer is made to handle that size and prints well on it but the lower paper tray does not close when that size paper is in that tray. The tray stays open about 3-4 inches which allows dust to get into the paper tray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Customer Service and great product from HP I was shopping the online "big box" stores for a printer that did special photo printing for air photos, which are very tricky (you usually need the original photos, which are no longer available. One of the major magazines even gave a suggestion for a particular printer. I also needed a high-volume printer to do mass output. Reading the specs of the recommended printer, it could do the output but it wasn't clear it had the technical capabilities we needed. There wasn't enough information on the recommender's website. Finally, I called HP. I was surprised at how much help I received from HP! The Customer Service representative in Idaho was fantastic! She understood my highly technical issue and knew that the recommended printer would not satisfy that need. She pointed me to two alternative printers, one for each need. The best part - the two printers together would cost less than the one I was looking at it that wouldn't do both things. She even explained why the more expensive printer wouldn't do. It had other features that I didn't need that cost extra. The recommending website didn't even understand that. Thank you, HP, and thank you Mary Hildreth in Idaho for such outstanding customer service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Instant Ink Printer is fine. I have two issues which resulted in the one star. 1. No matter what I try, it is impossible to link the printer to the HP Smart account. The printer shows in the HP app, shows online but refuses to show in account. Tried a factory reset as per support, no joy. Wasted way too much time on this. 2. Instant ink.. transpires this model is not eligible for this service. BUT you only find this out after going through the whole enrollment process, a process that is offered on both the online account page and the HP app. Both know exactly what printer I have. Had to spend more time with support to confirm that I would not be billed. Someone in HP needs to review how there software works, or does not. It can not be that hard to to include decision trees to ensure that only compatible printers are offered the service. Save future customers valuable time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficult setting it up It has been very difficult to get it set up and printing correctly. First it wouldn't connect to the wifi. I got that solved, then it wouldn't print anything but the first few lines of a document. I fixed that. Now it won't print the top of documents that I need to print double-sided. I still haven't figured that one out. And it is very important for my work that it able to print double-sided.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multiple Disappointments 1. I did not know the printer did not qualify for Instant Ink when purchasing. 2. It will ONLY take HP ink cartridges. Why since It's not eligible for Instant Ink? I don't even care if it voided the warranty. I would be spending so much on ink that I may as well buy a new printer. 3. The 11x17 tray design is aweful. If you wanted to treat it as a temporary tray, treat it like a copier to feed the paper as needed. But to have a tray that takes 11x17 but it has to stick out if you want to leave paper in it, is one of the worst designs I've seen. I've owned many HP printers over the last 20+ years. 4. Periodically, the printer is not recognized by my computer or smart app. I have NEVER had this problem with other printers. 5. All new OfficeJet printers seem to print last page face up first. ending with the first page face up. Any subsequent print job will be on top rather than after. This is a problem when printing back-to-back jobs that are supposed to be in order. It creates a lot of back and forth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed in the Office Jet Pro 7740 I’ve been very disappointed in the 7740. The start up instructions stopped without mentioning that there needed to be drivers installed and I had to call my local guru for assistance. After the installation was complete I found that several things in my desktop had changed. When I tried to put 11x17 paper in the drawer I discovered that the drawer is only 14” deep. After spending an hour with an unknowledgable chat guy, after three requests to be connected with someone else, I was connected to Tech Support who finally, after another 30 minutes, mentioned the little blue button that extended the drawer to 17”. The ridiculously tiny touchscreen is meant for someone with tiny fingers and 20/20 vision, neither of which I have. I don’t like that, when there is 11x17 paper in the tray, the tray sticks out - stupid design. And, finally, the machine doesn’t have Continuous Zoom, contrary to what I was told by the HP guy who sold it to me. Tech explained that I have to make size adjustments on the computer. IMHO, a $350 machine should have this feature. I will not be recommending HP to anyone who asks my opinion - I’m quite sure that other major brands have better-made machines and honest sales people.
