Product Reviews
Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 13reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by We can have multiple users execute tests independently on their own computers because the QTP scripts are stored online. Valuable Features:* Ability to execute automated QTP scripts from Quality Center and store the results* Ability to customize modules, particularly Defect Tracking module on company specific needs* The user can export a lengthy test case with a lot of steps from Excel directly into Quality Center, which saves a lot of time. Conversely, a user can export a test case with all steps from Quality Center to Excel.* Users can save screen shots of defects and also perform manual testing by using Manual Runner that verifies whether each step passed or failed and save the results along with information such as the date/time executed and who the tester was that performed the manual test.Improvements to My Organization:Multiple users can execute tests independently on their own computer because the QTP scripts are stored in Quality Center which is web based. All test cases are stored in one location (Quality Center) which makes it easier for users to access and maintain.New users can quickly be added and set-up to have access to given projects in Quality Center in less than an hour. The Defect Module can be customized to your departments needs. At a former company, we held regular meetings and used the Defect Module with a projector to go over the defects found during the previous week.Room for Improvement:When a particular version of Quality Center has reached end of life, the customer is forced to upgrade to the newer version to be eligible to get technical support. The upgrade process can be time intensive and requires a lot of planning. The BPT also known as Business Process Testing can sometimes be very time intensive and sometimes might not be very intuitive to someone who is not familiar with BPT.Use of Solution:Including earlier versions, I've been using it for 10 years.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:Sometimes when Quality Center is open and there is another browser open, Quality Center will crash.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered, in fact, it's very straightforward to add users.Customer Service:9/10.Technical Support:9/10.Previous Solutions:No, but I have worked at companies that used other tools and Quality Center is by far the best.Initial Setup:The initial set-up required a lot of resources, such as the Oracle DBA, because Quality Center stores its information in tables in a database. You also have to plan and coordinate with System Analysts what servers will be used along with the architecture.Cost and Licensing Advice:For licensing, find out the number of users who will be using it concurrently, and use that number as a starting point for the number of licenses to purchase. Quality Center is pricey, but cheaper is not always less expensive.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Write out and document all the steps and resources beforehand, and make sure everything is in place before implementing. Make sure you read the minimum requirements listed in installation instructions needed for all hardware (i.e. servers, etc.) and double-check it to ensure it is met.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by I use it as one tool, from requirement tracking to defect tracking, but it is expensive. Valuable Features:QA Test Management is good. The menus have changed over the years which is nice, and now it is also integrated with other defect tracking systems. Before, it was only compatible with QTP.Improvements to My Organization:We used to use Excel spreadsheets. Using Quality Center as one tool helped us to track just one tool from beginning to end.Report summaries help me to figure out where a project stands and how much work is left for the QA team to complete.Room for Improvement:* This is a great test management tool, but it is very expensive. The price needs to be affordable as it's high priced when compared to other test management tools with similar functions.* SpiraTest and QMetry can be used on iPhone, iPad, etc., but I am not sure whether Quality Center also works on iOS platforms or Android devises.* Use a SCRUM board extension to make it more usable for Agile.* It needs to integrate better with other vendor software, e.g. JIRA, Selenium IDE, and SoapUI.* It should be easier to use like SpiraTest or QMetry.Use of Solution:I've used it since 2005.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:Sometimes it runs fast, and sometimes it runs slow.Scalability Issues:It has scaled for our use.Customer Service:They used to respond in 24 to 48 hours, now it's longer, and when compared to SpiraTest, it's not that great.Technical Support:They used to respond in 24 to 48 hours, now it's longer, and when compared to SpiraTest, it's not that great.Initial Setup:I used the software version of Quality Center, and the initial set-up was straightforward. After changing it to the web version, it was much better.Implementation Team:It was implemented before I joined the company.ROI:6/10.Cost and Licensing Advice:It's priced high, and they should look into it to make it more competitive.Other Solutions Considered:We also looked at SpiraTest, and it is more affordable than Quality Center.Other Advice:Check the price and compare to other available tools in the market and decide select the one best fits the needs.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by It added structure to the test process and enabled the developers to better understand the QA process, though it should integrate with Agile Manager. Valuable Features:The overarching lifecycle view, from requirements gathering through to testing and defect resolution. Additionally the ability to customize the user permissions so they can only see and do what their job role permits.Improvements to My Organization:It added structure to the test process and enabled the developers to better understand the QA process. This in turn led to an improvement in the code developed in-house.Room for Improvement:As a standalone QA tool it meets the needs adequately, but it really needs combining with other solutions, such as Agile Manager, to get the best full lifecycle solution.Use of Solution:Around 14 years from when it was originally called Test Director.Deployment Issues:There are still some issues when deploying to a few end user machines but the install and upgrade process is very easy. Some of these issues will be resolved in later releases.Stability Issues:Very stable with no reported issues in years.Scalability Issues:There are options to increase the scale of use and extra modules that can be obtained with the full ALM license.Customer Service:On par with other big companies, sometimes you need to get past the front line support to get to the real answers.Technical Support:Good, quick turnaround with ideas and solutions to try.Previous Solutions:QA was driven by spreadsheets before the deployment of Test Director.Initial Setup:The documentation is not always easy to follow but the answers can be found on the support forum and help desk.Implementation Team:The initial deployment was with a vendor over 14 years ago, but all subsequent updates have been done in-house.ROI:It's unknown, but I suspect it to be quite significant.Other Solutions Considered:More recently it was reevaluated against Microsoft Test Manager to see if it was still the best QA tool for our needs.Other Advice:It is still the best QA tool on the market that integrates with most of other tools we use. It allows everyone who wants to be able to see the current quality of the project and control the QA process.Fully understand the different options out there and the license types. Other tools may offer similar and you will probably want to customize some of the options to get the best out of it. Have not tried the cloud option which would take away any implementation and upgrade issues.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. October 11, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Though we can create QC project files to create a backup, there is size limitation when you restore the backup. Valuable Features:A comprehensive solution aiming for total Test management. It has bindings with HP QTP which is a test automation tool. With the addition of BPT (Business Process Testing), QC along with QTP has been the choice for test automation in most of the IT businesses.Improvements to My Organization:Maintenance of test artifacts becomes messy when there are many scripts and supporting test artifacts. HP QC makes it easier to maintain the scripts and also organize them into various business areas.Room for Improvement:Backup strategy is lacking in QC. Once the QC server crashes, all your automation artifacts are unrecoverable. Though we can create QC project files to create a backup, there is size limitation when you restore the backup.Use of Solution:4 years and 6 monthsDeployment Issues:Configuration of QC contains a number of steps which could be made simpler. Many of these settings can be default with an option for the user to change them.Stability Issues:Getting to the root cause of any issue with QC is difficult. In many cases, restoring the QC projects is the way to resolve issues. Though HP support is available, it is not immediate.Scalability Issues:As with the scalability, there are no issues with QC. It handles multiple connections very easily. And also if there is a crash on one machine where one test artifact is locked, the lock is automatically released in some time. But it would be great if there was recovery options built in after a crash.Technical Support:The technical support is prompt and understand business urgency.Previous Solutions:I have worked on TFS. The features of TFS are limited when compared to QC.Initial Setup:The initial setup was pretty straightforward.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:partner August 18, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by It has improved our testing designs and test reporting. Valuable Features:The defects section is the most valuable.Improvements to My Organization:It has improved our testing designs and test reporting.Room for Improvement:* Ability to export test plans (test cases and libraries) in other formats, such as in Excel.* Test Lab functionality needs to be changed so you can set test attributes automatically with minimal effort.Use of Solution:I've used it for two years, although not in my current role.Deployment Issues:My department doesn't do deployments, but I believe that the team doing it does have problems.Customer Service:We have a specific department that deals with customer service.Technical Support:We have a specific department that deals with technical support.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by It has a centralized repository which can sync both onshore and offshore. Valuable Features:* Customization* Analysis view* Test Plan* Defect* Centralized repository which can sync both onshore and offshoreImprovements to My Organization:The company needed an option to integrate all our open source tools like JIRA, Jenkins, LFT, UFT, etc., and Quality Center does this.Room for Improvement:It should have the option to integrate open-source and third-party tools. I'd also like more collaboration options. They could make it more lightweight and improve its performance.Use of Solution:I've used it for eight years.Deployment Issues:There were some data migration issues when we upgraded to the next version. This was with the user-defined table/column as the extra tables were complex when converting to the newer version.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Customer Service:It's good, 8/10.Technical Support:It's good, 8/10.Previous Solutions:We have other open source products that do not meet all our requirementsInitial Setup:It was complex.Implementation Team:We did it in-house.Other Advice:It’s good to use for a big organization.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by It provides us with the ability to hierarchically group and maintain a regression pool of test cases. Valuable Features:* Ability to hierarchically group test cases* Ability to reuse test cases (call test from a test)* Ability to organise under trees test sets* Ability to monitor everything* Create a report under everything* Ability to configure custom attributes on all modulesImprovements to My Organization:* Allows us to allocate tests among multiple test members* Provides us with live metrics and control* Provides an audit of progress and issue* Given us the ability to maintain decently a regression pool of test casesRoom for Improvement:It needs compatibility with browsers other than IE.Use of Solution:I've used it for more than eight years.Stability Issues:Sometimes it has tricky errors, but rarely.Scalability Issues:Sometimes, it has performance issues at some points, but this all depends on a million different things.Customer Service:It is a very close community, and luckily there are a lot of posts.Technical Support:I've not had any direct contact with them.Previous Solutions:No previous solution was used.ROI:We've never calculated it.Cost and Licensing Advice:This is for big software houses, so costs and especially yearly renewal of support is very very expensive.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Be organised, as the tool has the abilities to support this.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by It provides a centralized location for managing all aspects of your testing data and results. ? Valuable Features:The Test Plan and Test Lab modules.Improvements to My Organization:My clients were able to implement an end-to-end process for software testing. From release management and requirement gathering, to testing and defect management, Quality Center provides a centralized location for managing all aspects of your testing data and results.Room for Improvement:The reporting features could be improved.Use of Solution:I've used it for nine years.Deployment Issues:There are a lot of nuances with integrations and implementation of Quality Center and third-party applications. With proper planning and expertise guidance, issues with deployment can be resolved. I have not encountered any issues with deployment that could not be resolved.Stability Issues:Stability depends on the hardware/infrastructure where the web application resides. Availability, access, memory, speed are dependent on the environment which is setup, and used, for Quality Center deployment.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Customer Service:7/10 for customer service.Technical Support:Being involved in the HP partner program for many years and involved in a certified support team, I had access to higher levels of support team members which alleviated the hurdles that may be present at the bottom level support team members.Previous Solutions:No previous solution used.Initial Setup:It does require a level of expertise to install/setup Quality Center. Doing it without any prior experience, could cause a delay in deployment, as well as unintended issues.Implementation Team:I was a consultant for a Fortune 500 company where we implemented this product not only in our own environment, but for our clients as well. I have implemented this product to over 50 companies since 2006, including top pharmaceutical, and medical device companies within the health and life sciences industry.ROI:Cost and Licensing Advice:Understand what your company needs are, and how many users will need access. There are different licenses based on local, regional, and global access as needed as well as total amount of users. There is also licensing based at a modular level as well. Work with your HP Sales representative to get a pricing/licensing plan for your specific needs.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Do your research and talk to an expert regarding the product. Having demonstrations and trial access to the product helps with decision making. Understanding the requirements and your current environment helps guide the discussions with an expert. Understanding the limitations will also help.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. July 29, 2015
