Rated 4 out of 5 by from With the BPT module, we can update test cases in less time as would otherwise take to update two or three business components. Valuable Features:The Business Process Testing module and approach to testing in QC is its most valuable feature.Improvements to My Organization:For manual test cases, we need to write test case each time and if any update or CR comes then we need to go to each test case and update, which is very time consuming. But, with BPT we can update it in less time as would otherwise take to update two or three business components. After a refresh, it will automatically update the whole test set, which is over 100 test cases.Room for Improvement:I would like to see a bit of improvement in its look and feel.Use of Solution:We've used it for seven years.Deployment Issues:There were issues with the deployment.Stability Issues:We had some issues with the stability.Scalability Issues:We had some issues with the scalability.Customer Service:8/10Technical Support:8/10Previous Solutions:Earlier I used Mantis, but it was not user friendly and had no functionality apart from defect tracking. But HP QC is defect tracking by default. Test Case Execution tracking and reporting functionality which will serve all purposes for testing processes.Initial Setup:The initial setup was not complex.Implementation Team:We used a vendor team with in-house machines for the implementation.Other Advice:For testing processes and improvements, I would suggest you use this product. But, if you're looking at cost, then that might be a concern, but no doubt it is the best tool for testing.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I personally found the defect tracking feature very useful in my ongoing project. Valuable Features:I personally found the defect tracking feature very useful in my ongoing project. Our complete Agile process of Software development and QA is dependent HP Quality Center.Improvements to My Organization:It has streamlined communication with business users and technical users whereby business requirements are now tracked on HP Quality Center. Thus providing clarity with simplicity.Room for Improvement:I've faced a couple of bugs in the product whereby we were not able to open attachments on a particular ticket. The session timeout time also needs to longer in my opinion.Use of Solution:I've been using this solution for close to 2 years on a daily basis and it's a wonderful product.Deployment Issues:Not in particular, only certain defects that i've mentioned for the question above for areas of improvement.Stability Issues:Certain minor issues such as error in opening attachments linked to a ticket and session timeout issues apart, the product is stable.Scalability Issues:The product is scalable and consistently delivers the required purpose.Customer Service:HP has dedicated support with this licensed product and they were available for any queries.Technical Support:Technical issues were resolved based on SR with HP team and response was good.Previous Solutions:We have used HP QC from the onset as the scale of our operation and the throughput of requirements were greater so using other solutions such as Kanban was not feasible in our project.Initial Setup:Initial setup was straight forward with installation and HP provides tutorials for advanced modification.Implementation Team:It was implemented by our client team and we helped them with the offshore installation.ROI:The value created was high in our project as were dealing with an application with high public exposure , so the smooth working of tracking requirements and defects definitely gave a good ROI.Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:For pricing I recommend to buy a bundled package, check the HPE site for more details.Other Solutions Considered:Other teams had used Kanban and its visual style of quality control but it was not a good fit in our project.Other Advice:I highly recommend HP Quality centre for its simplicity and ease of use whereby Business and Technical team can see each others progress and help make better decisions.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It provides us with the ability to hierarchically group and maintain a regression pool of test cases. Valuable Features:* Ability to hierarchically group test cases* Ability to reuse test cases (call test from a test)* Ability to organise under trees test sets* Ability to monitor everything* Create a report under everything* Ability to configure custom attributes on all modulesImprovements to My Organization:* Allows us to allocate tests among multiple test members* Provides us with live metrics and control* Provides an audit of progress and issue* Given us the ability to maintain decently a regression pool of test casesRoom for Improvement:It needs compatibility with browsers other than IE.Use of Solution:I've used it for more than eight years.Stability Issues:Sometimes it has tricky errors, but rarely.Scalability Issues:Sometimes, it has performance issues at some points, but this all depends on a million different things.Customer Service:It is a very close community, and luckily there are a lot of posts.Technical Support:I've not had any direct contact with them.Previous Solutions:No previous solution was used.ROI:We've never calculated it.Cost and Licensing Advice:This is for big software houses, so costs and especially yearly renewal of support is very very expensive.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Be organised, as the tool has the abilities to support this.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We can have multiple users execute tests independently on their own computers because the UFT scripts are stored online. Valuable Features:* Ability to execute automated UFT scripts from Quality Center and store the results* Ability to customize modules, particularly Defect Tracking module on company specific needs* The user can export a lengthy test case with a lot of steps from Excel directly into Quality Center, which saves a lot of time. Conversely, a user can export a test case with all steps from Quality Center to Excel.* Users can save screen shots of defects and also perform manual testing by using Manual Runner that verifies whether each step passed or failed and save the results along with information such as the date/time executed and who the tester was that performed the manual test.Improvements to My Organization:Multiple users can execute tests independently on their own computer because the UFT scripts are stored in Quality Center which is web based. All test cases are stored in one location (Quality Center) which makes it easier for users to access and maintain.New users can quickly be added and set-up to have access to given projects in Quality Center in less than an hour. The Defect Module can be customized to your departments needs. At a former company, we held regular meetings and used the Defect Module with a projector to go over the defects found during the previous week.Room for Improvement:When a particular version of Quality Center has reached end of life, the customer is forced to upgrade to the newer version to be eligible to get technical support. The upgrade process can be time intensive and requires a lot of planning. The BPT also known as Business Process Testing can sometimes be very time intensive and sometimes might not be very intuitive to someone who is not familiar with BPT.Use of Solution:Including earlier versions, I've been using it for 10 years.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:Sometimes when Quality Center is open and there is another browser open, Quality Center will crash.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered, in fact, it's very straightforward to add users.Customer Service:9/10.Technical Support:9/10.Previous Solutions:I have worked at companies that used open source tools and Quality Center is by far the best.Initial Setup:The initial set-up required a lot of resources, such as the Oracle DBA, because Quality Center stores its information in tables in a database. You also have to plan and coordinate with System Analysts what servers will be used along with the architecture.ROI:Giving an ROI on a software product is a complicated task. I like to use the Space Shuttle as an analogy. From an economist's point of view, he or she might say the Space Shuttle program cost billions of dollars and did not see nearly that amount in hard dollars generated from resources/time saved in return. I believe NASA did get paid to put satellites into orbit via the Shuttle for private companies but it was less than the whole costs. On the other hand, a scientist could say the Space Shuttle program made many significant discoveries and also put into orbit the Hubble Telescope which discovered and took pictures of the Universe that was not possible from Earth. The Economist would just use a formula to calculate a number stating it is a bad ROI. The Scientist would say the Shuttle definitely added value by making new discoveries that advanced science so far that it cannot be measured in dollars and say it is a good ROI. My point here is that "what is the ROI" is a common question at companies and it can vary greatly on how a person approaches and perceives it.With all this in mind, my answer is that Quality Center definitely adds value to an organization and over the long run has a positive ROI that will keep increasing over time mostly by saving time for users the more they use the functionality of all the modules. For example, using Quality Center to schedule automated test suites to run unattended increases ROI.Cost and Licensing Advice:For licensing, find out the number of users who will be using it concurrently, and use that number as a starting point for the number of licenses to purchase. Quality Center is pricey, but cheaper is not always less expensive.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Write out and document all the steps and resources beforehand, and make sure everything is in place before implementing. Make sure you read the minimum requirements listed in installation instructions needed for all hardware (i.e. servers, etc.) and double-check it to ensure it is met.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It added structure to the test process and enabled the developers to better understand the QA process, though it should integrate with Agile Manager. Valuable Features:The overarching lifecycle view, from requirements gathering through to testing and defect resolution. Additionally the ability to customize the user permissions so they can only see and do what their job role permits.Improvements to My Organization:It added structure to the test process and enabled the developers to better understand the QA process. This in turn led to an improvement in the code developed in-house.Room for Improvement:As a standalone QA tool it meets the needs adequately, but it really needs combining with other solutions, such as Agile Manager, to get the best full lifecycle solution.Use of Solution:Around 14 years from when it was originally called Test Director.Deployment Issues:There are still some issues when deploying to a few end user machines but the install and upgrade process is very easy. Some of these issues will be resolved in later releases.Stability Issues:Very stable with no reported issues in years.Scalability Issues:There are options to increase the scale of use and extra modules that can be obtained with the full ALM license.Customer Service:On par with other big companies, sometimes you need to get past the front line support to get to the real answers.Technical Support:Good, quick turnaround with ideas and solutions to try.Previous Solutions:QA was driven by spreadsheets before the deployment of Test Director.Initial Setup:The documentation is not always easy to follow but the answers can be found on the support forum and help desk.Implementation Team:The initial deployment was with a vendor over 14 years ago, but all subsequent updates have been done in-house.ROI:It's unknown, but I suspect it to be quite significant.Other Solutions Considered:More recently it was reevaluated against Microsoft Test Manager to see if it was still the best QA tool for our needs.Other Advice:It is still the best QA tool on the market that integrates with most of other tools we use. It allows everyone who wants to be able to see the current quality of the project and control the QA process.Fully understand the different options out there and the license types. Other tools may offer similar and you will probably want to customize some of the options to get the best out of it. Have not tried the cloud option which would take away any implementation and upgrade issues.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Though we can create QC project files to create a backup, there is size limitation when you restore the backup. Valuable Features:A comprehensive solution aiming for total Test management. It has bindings with HP QTP which is a test automation tool. With the addition of BPT (Business Process Testing), QC along with QTP has been the choice for test automation in most of the IT businesses.Improvements to My Organization:Maintenance of test artifacts becomes messy when there are many scripts and supporting test artifacts. HP QC makes it easier to maintain the scripts and also organize them into various business areas.Room for Improvement:Backup strategy is lacking in QC. Once the QC server crashes, all your automation artifacts are unrecoverable. Though we can create QC project files to create a backup, there is size limitation when you restore the backup.Use of Solution:4 years and 6 monthsDeployment Issues:Configuration of QC contains a number of steps which could be made simpler. Many of these settings can be default with an option for the user to change them.Stability Issues:Getting to the root cause of any issue with QC is difficult. In many cases, restoring the QC projects is the way to resolve issues. Though HP support is available, it is not immediate.Scalability Issues:As with the scalability, there are no issues with QC. It handles multiple connections very easily. And also if there is a crash on one machine where one test artifact is locked, the lock is automatically released in some time. But it would be great if there was recovery options built in after a crash.Technical Support:The technical support is prompt and understand business urgency.Previous Solutions:I have worked on TFS. The features of TFS are limited when compared to QC.Initial Setup:The initial setup was pretty straightforward.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:partner
