Ixia Net Optics iBypass HD (High Density) provides a 1U, high port density bypass switch solution for in-line network security appliances such as intrusion prevention systems (IPSs) and firewalls. Each of the two to eight segments operates independently to ensure link protection when monitoring up to eight critical network links at any one time. Individual and multisegment IPS appliances can be connected, maintained, or removed without affecting traffic through the links or the operation of the remaining segments. In addition, pairs of bypass switches can be linked in a high-availability configuration, where failure of one appliance results in switching the traffic to the other appliance. The iBypass HD chassis accepts four hot-pluggable dual bypass modules (DBMs). Each DBM provides two independent bypass switches that can also be configured as a high-availability failover pair. Differrent DBM models support 10/100/1000 copper, singlemode fiber, and multimode fiber. The fiber DBMs have SFP monitoring interfaces so any type of tool can be supported. The chassis can be populated with any mix of DBM types to suit the monitoring environment. Each bypass switch can also be configured as a network tap, further increasing deployment flexibility. All of the bypass switches include Ixia Net Optics Heartbeat technology, which actively monitors the health of the attached in-line monitoring device. A configurable Heartbeat packet is injected into the monitor port link to help determine delay due to heavy traffic loads or the availability of attached monitoring tools. The bypass switch automatically switches network traffic around an unresponsive IPS appliance even if the IPS is still powered on. Once the IPS re-establishes a connection, traffic is re-routed to the monitor ports for continued operation. For added reliability, the iBypass HD features power loss fail-open: In the event of power loss to the bypass switch, traffic continues to flow through the network links, but is no longer routed to the monitoring tools. Additionally, hot-swappable redundant power supplies are a standard feature. Manage the iBypass HD locally or remotely. Management features include easy device configuration, SSH security, role-based access, RADIUS and TACACS+ authentication and authorization, RMON traffic statistics, and remote software upgrades.
