Rated 4 out of 5 by Query response and data loading times are fast, but we ran into stability issues involved server crashes when attempting to answer legal SQL queries. Valuable Features:The speed of the tool - both of the query response and the loading of data.Improvements to My Organization:It’s the central component of our enterprise data warehouse. Queries and reports that would require hours or days from the original source systems are now available in minutes or seconds. It’s really fast!Room for Improvement:The stability needs improvement. We’ve upgraded through multiple minor revisions because of issues where the database server would crash when attempting to answer a perfectly legal SQL query. We'reUse of Solution:I've been using it for five years.Deployment Issues:The client side of the package is a bit monolithic. We'd like to be able to roll out just the ODBC driver to client workstations through our managed desktop solution, but SAP/Sybase apparently doesn't have that capability, so we have to manually visit every workstation and install the complete client package from the DVD image.Stability Issues:Just the stability issues referenced above. A production database server should never crash in response to user input, but Sybase IQ has repeatedly done that for us, over multiple revisions of the product.Scalability Issues:Not yet. We haven’t had a need to expand our Sybase IQ system yet, but their multiplex architecture seems like a useful approach if/when we need to do so.Customer Service:We have to go through our systems integrator (Telus).Technical Support:Technical support is not good, although we actually have to go through our systems integrator (Telus), not directly to SAP/Sybase. However, the feedback from our systems integrator (Telus), is that the technical support is not great. Their first level help desk at SAP/Sybase is generally of no value for the problems we encounter, and the process of escalation to the appropriate level takes longer than it should.Previous Solutions:This was our first solution for our enterprise data warehouse project.Initial Setup:The initial setup was complex, because Sybase IQ is architecturally very different from Sybase ASE, which we’ve been using for over 20 years. They share the “Sybase” name, but otherwise are very different products, requiring a different approach to database administration and tuning.Implementation Team:We used our vendor team, whose expertise was acceptable, but not outstanding.ROI:We haven't calculated it.Other Solutions Considered:Caveat emptor. It’s a frustratingly excellent product. When it works, the performance is amazing, but the stability issues, and the expense of the product, coupled with less than top tier technical support, should be considered when evaluating the product for your specific environment.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by ?Instead of publishing a web page with the link to the app, now we publish the apps via Afaria and we know who installed the app. Valuable Features:App distribution and restriction policies i.e. device settings, and OTA updated restrictions. Other valuable features are the ability to black list/white list some applications and thus selectively install the productive ones!Improvements to My Organization:Instead of publishing a web page with the link to the app, now we publish the apps via Afaria and we know who installed the app (software inventory component of Afaria). We also have a clue on how people use the corporate device and Afaria also helps enough with the telecom expense management.Room for Improvement:It should be one shot! But in the current state, you have to set-up at least five components, and if you have more than one server (we have one master plus four slaves and two relay servers) it means about 25 “installations” (about 100 next, OK, finish, cancel).Use of Solution:We've used it for five years.Technical Support:I think it depends on what you ask for. If they involve their dev team, then they can take a long time to get you a final answer, but on average the service is good.Previous Solutions:I've not used another solution.Initial Setup:The installation manuals are not beginner-friendly.Implementation Team:We implement for our customers in an in-house manner.Other Solutions Considered:I'm evaluating MobileIron.Other Advice:It is not a bad MDM platform to start with. I mean, for me it is doing what i need. In any case, i don’t have experience with others, so i can’t compare it.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are SAP gold partners and we resell, install and give support for SAP Afaria to our own customers. Rated 3 out of 5 by It helped our organization in securing our enterprise data on mobile devices. It needs compatibility with multiple platforms and databases. Valuable Features:Enrollment based on groups.Improvements to My Organization:It helped our organization in securing our enterprise data on mobile devices.Room for Improvement:It needs compatibility with multiple platforms and databases.Use of Solution:I've used it for two years.Deployment Issues:No issues with deployment.Stability Issues:No issues with stability.Scalability Issues:No issues with scalability.Technical Support:6/10Previous Solutions:No other solution was used.Initial Setup:It wasn't too complex.Other Advice:It's a good product to implement.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We're partners. Rated 4 out of 5 by It protects corporate data from hacking or lost/stolen devices. Valuable Features:The most valuable feature is the application and configuration policy.Improvements to My Organization:Since it's mobility era and all data is in either mobile devices or tablets that need to be secured, Afaria protects corporate data from hacking or lost/stolen devices.Room for Improvement:The installation is very complex and the price is very high compared to other MDM's.Use of Solution:I've used it for four years.Deployment Issues:There were issues with the architecture designing during the installation.Stability Issues:It's been stable.Scalability Issues:We have no scalability issues.Technical Support:5/10 - SAP response is very poor for this product.Previous Solutions:After installation of the product, it is very easy to use. It's user friendly and the operation and performance is very high. It's an SAP product so it's trustworthy.Initial Setup:Initially it was complex, but now it is easy to use. It is fully dependent on third-party software (.Net, SQL DB, etc.) which creates problems during installation.Implementation Team:We used a vendor team. The network architecture should be clear and check the prerequisites before installation.ROI:The price is high when compared to others.Other Advice:The setup and operation could be easier like as other MDM products are very user friendly and easy to use, but the price is a very important factor.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 3 out of 5 by We can now have over one billion rows in a table for semi-real trans-national querying., but the admin UI could use some improvements. Valuable Features:* Data compression ratio* Mass query speedSybase IQ, it's high compressed ratio and large query are attractive. In data warehouse experience that is a good tool and normal C/P.Improvements to My Organization:We can now have over one billion rows in a table for semi-real trans-national querying. In quarterly or monthly report from billions of records, it supports and provides, stable performance.Room for Improvement:* Admin UI* Tuning parameters* Maintenance tool* UIUse of Solution:I've used it for over five years.Deployment Issues:There weren't many issues.Stability Issues:Aborts happen, and we don't know why.Scalability Issues:There aren't many issues.Customer Service:5/10.Technical Support:5/10.Previous Solutions:We also have an Oracle solution, and these it runs in parallel with Sybase IQ.Initial Setup:We set it up in multi node mode, and it wasn't too complex.Implementation Team:We implemented with a vendor who were 6/10.ROI:It's at about 60%.Cost and Licensing Advice:They should simplify the classification of licenses, especially the core/store number.Other Solutions Considered:* Oracle* PostgreSQLOther Advice:Take into consideration your multiplex environment and storage IOPS balance.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by We can reverse engineer databases and create data models and documentation for clients Valuable Features:Reverse engineering a database in order to produce documentation for client to understand their database in order to support their application, perform data migration, perform system analysis, perform impact analysis, and write interfaces.Improvements to My Organization:This product is very useful when starting a new project. It helped the consultant to understand the database.Room for Improvement:No issues encountered.Use of Solution:I've been using it for about 15 years, starting with v5.0Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:The product is very stable, even with no maintenance updates to purchase. There were a few bugs I have found, which I just learned to work around.Customer Service:It's very good.Implementation Team:It was implemented in-house.Other Solutions Considered:We also looked at what is now CA ERwin Data Modeler.Other Advice:It is a great product to use, but the client does not really need to purchase the software, as the consultant can reverse engineer the database, and then create the data model and documentation in order to deliver to client. The client can use the read-only version of PowerDesigner.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. July 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by PowerDesigner is more powerful than Erwin, including data modeling which is non-existent with Erwin. Valuable Features:The customized Data Model validation because, in short, PowerDesigner offers the capability to check if the the model was done following the best practices of data modeling . This capability can be customized to review other internal validation processes.Improvements to My Organization:Less time spent with Data Administrators and therefore more agile approvals Data Model. This is because the Data Administrator spend less time in Logical Model validation, as PowerDesigner does the majority of the checks.Use of Solution:Approximately one year.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Customer Service:I have not used them.Technical Support:I have not used them.Previous Solutions:I previously used Erwin and I switched because PowerDesigner is a more powerful tool. PowerDesigner is more powerful than Erwin in many ways, but to highlight one, the capability mentioned about the Data Modeling is non-existent on Erwin and in my opinion, it is very important.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 3 out of 5 by The deployment is a bit complex compared to other databases, but its column-based storage is very high performance. Valuable Features:Sybase IQ is a column based database, used for business intelligence, data warehousing, and data marts. It is optimized for BI/Analytics and ad-hoc queries. Since it is column based it uses optimal storage space and very high performance.Room for Improvement:Very few people are familiar with this technology, as training programs are very expensive.Use of Solution:I've used this product for almost five years.Deployment Issues:The deployment is a bit complex compared to other databases.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Technical Support:It's good.Previous Solutions:I switched because of its column-based architecture and optimal storage.Initial Setup:It has two types of setup, Simplex, and Multiplex. Simplex is straightforward, while Multiplex is a bit complex. but once you get to grips with it, that's straightforward too.ROI:It's worth investing in.Other Advice:Good luck with it, putting in hard work will give you good returns.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
