Trend Micro Deep Security provides advanced security for physical, virtual, and cloud servers and virtual desktops. Whether implemented as software, virtual appliance, or in a hybrid approach, this solution minimizes overhead, streamlines management, and provides strong agentless security for virtual machines. Deep Security also addresses a wide range of compliance requirements, including seven major PCI compliance requirements with multiple protection modules in one consolidated solution.

Trend Micro Deep Security Anti-malware is an agentless software solution that integrates VMware vShield Endpoint APIs to protect VMware virtual machines against viruses, spyware, Trojans and other malware. This module is designed to optimize security operations to avoid security brown-outs commonly seen in full system scans and pattern updates. By isolating malware from anti-malware, agentless anti-malware tamper-proofs security from sophisticated attacks.

Product Reviews
Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Having centralized malware is practical. There should be a way to migrate without having to uninstall prior antivirus products. Valuable Features:Having centralized malware is very practical, but there should be a way to migrate without having to uninstall prior antivirus products.Improvements to My Organization:Centralizing rules is practical and greatly accelerates the administration.Room for Improvement:They should improve the interface of the main dashboard. It is difficult to find where templates define policies. Also, if you are not careful, your policy implementation can lead to management problems. It should have warnings before applying policies. They also need to improve its dashboard to help monitor the rules that are incorrect or are duplicated.Use of Solution:We’ve been using it for one-and-a-half years.Deployment Issues:The product should have a strategy for installation. Prior to installation, the vendor should advise on a logical design of installation depending on the customer’s needs. In my case, it was not successful and produced serious inconveniences in our virtual infrastructure.Stability Issues:There were some stability issues in the virtual infrastructure due to issues with the deployment.Scalability Issues:We have had no issues scaling it for our needs.Technical Support:The level of technical support is just regular. They failed to advise how to carry out the setup and this caused serious drawbacks with interoperability between virtual machines. The consultant was not certified enough for installation to the point that after the installation, we lost money fixing the issues.Previous Solutions:I was the one who installed the solution, as well as charged with maintaining it. Also, I'm the ESL tester who creates policies and installs them.Initial Setup:It is complex to install. As I said, we were not well-guided, we did not get certified support, and we weren't trained according to best practices.Other Solutions Considered:We did not evaluate anything else.Other Advice:Prior evaluations of possible scenarios have resulted in determining problem areas as well as good practices. Also, it should be clear the level of integration with VMware and its different versions. My advice would be to have the most updated versions of ESXi, vCenter, vShield, etc. It's fundamental to have a network or network segment for the administration and management of all infrastructure.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions. Rated 4 out of 5 by The built-in auto tuning system does a great job of detecting legitimate services and devices on the network. Valuable Features:Ease of use, just connect to a span port on your core switch and you're ready to go. Of course, you will see a bunch of white noise, but the built-in auto tuning system does a great job of detecting legitimate services and devices on the network, and from there you white-list the ones which you've confirmed to be known goods. Built in sandboxing provides an additional layer of defense to shake out suspicious objects and processes. This works especially well if you're running Trend Micro's Office Scan Endpoint Protection, where DDi is able to generate a new virus definition via the sandbox, and push it out to the Office Scan AV engine to provide protection across your network.Improvements to My Organization:DDi rapidly discovers C2 traffic and pinpoints the offenders, source and recipient. It also provides a set of eyes to keep track of suspicious lateral movements between nodes. The out of the box rule set does a great job of hunting down previously unflagged threats, but can easily be customized for those that like to tweak and refine.Room for Improvement:Not too much to complain about, really. There were a few instances where legitimate traffic (WPAD) was flagged as C2 communication. There were some challenges in white-listing it, which resulted in a bunch of alerts/noise.Use of Solution:2 yearsDeployment Issues:NoStability Issues:NeverScalability Issues:It can get expensive if you wish to monitor all core switches across many satellite offices. My suggestion is to put one or more DDi appliances at core switches nearest to where your critical data is housed.Customer Service:Customer service is very good.Technical Support:Very good.Previous Solutions:FireEye. Fire Eye is incredibly expensive, and requires multiple appliances which together, scan far less protocols than DDi. It also hasn't fared so well in terms of detection rates, in independent tests against competing products.Initial Setup:Straightforward setup.Implementation Team:Implemented in-house along with Trend's team.Other Advice:Be sure to implement Trend's Control Manager module (free) for more flexible reporting, along with integration with other Trend products (strongly suggest using this along with Office Scan and Deep Discovery Endpoint Sensor, which is an EDR solution).Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
