Veeam Backup and Replication is best way to back up and protect your virtual machines. It does not just support your virtual environment - rather, it leverages that environment to provide a whole level of protection for all your virtualized applications, services and data.

Backups are worthless if you cannot recover from them. With Veeam Backup and Replication, you can verify the recoverability of your backups - not just a few selected backups, but every backup, of every virtual machine, every time. You no longer have to settle for backups that "might work" or "should work" - instead, you can rest easy knowing that your backups actually do work.

Veeam Backup and Replication provides exceptional value. It is licensed per CPU socket on the ESX host and includes backup, replication, deduplication and centralized management. There are no per-agent, per-VM or per-application license fees.

Product Reviews
Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus for VMware - product upgrade lic is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It allows VM replication from one data center to another for DR. Valuable Features:Instant restore, file level restore, backup, copy/restore to/from cloud, VM replication from one data center to another for DR.Improvements to My Organization:Fast recovery, backup stored in 3 locations: locally, other location, and in the cloud (iLand). If our primary data center goes down, our VMs are replicated to another data center so we will be up and running in less than 15 minutes.Backup stored in multiple locations.Room for Improvement:The product works perfectly for us. After they added endpoint backup for physical servers the product is 10/10.Use of Solution:4 yearsDeployment Issues:Not at all, and we have a few Veeam servers in different locations.Stability Issues:No, just make sure you not run out of space, that's all.Scalability Issues:No.Technical Support:10, great customer service.Previous Solutions:ArcServe, Symantec. I had always problems with the backup until I switched to Veeam.First, it's agentless for your VMware or Hyper-V VMs, but you need to install an agent if you want to backup physical servers. Second, the backup just works and I get alerts when a backup fails. But the only time when the backup fails is when I run out of space.I don't need to worry about testing the backups because with SureBackup, Veeam is restoring the backup automatically and is checking if the restore works.Brilliant.Initial Setup:Very simple-- just download the product and go through the wizard.Implementation Team:In-house.Cost and Licensing Advice:Maybe Veeam is not the cheapest product, but it is the best backup solution I have ever used. If you want to sleep at the night, don't worry about your data , spend a few more $$ on the Veeam solution, and I guarantee you will love it.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's provided us with a file-level recovery option and it's stable, efficient, and flexible. Valuable Features:The file-level recovery option has filled a gap in our system.Room for Improvement:* Remote management console* Physical server backupsUse of Solution:I've used it for about three or so years.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:The product has been 100% stable, but there are a few issues with backup jobs.Scalability Issues:No issues yet.Customer Service:I've not had to contact customer service.Technical Support:They have very efficient, problem-solving chaps.Previous Solutions:I was using Symantec, but it's not as flexible as Veeam if you talk about immediate recovery of file or a whole VM.Initial Setup:It's as simple as installing MS Office.Implementation Team:I was previously working as a project engineer with my company, implementing Veeam at many clients. I am now working as a Resident Engineer and IT Consultant outsourced from my original employer (implementation vendor). Both ways I have had good experiences with Veeam.Cost and Licensing Advice:Don’t waste your money on Symantec or other tools. Buy a license once for Veeam as it's a lifetime one and the support license can be renewed, as required, on a yearly basis.Other Solutions Considered:We also looked at Symantec Backup Exec.Other Advice:Just keep in mind its functionality because, as of now, it is limited to VMs. It's taking backup of physical machines as well, but only on a clone level.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Switched to Veeam as "it just works" as their slogan suggests.Initial Setup:Setup is straightforward. There are excellent installation and administration guides which help with this process.Implementation Team:We implemented it in-house.Other Solutions Considered:* vRanger* Backup ExecOther Advice:For backup of VMware environments, you cant really go wrong with Veeam.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from With WAN acceleration, we send less data through our WAN lines. The reporting tool shows the status of the infrastructure. Valuable Features:* The quality of compression and deduplication is better than other products.* The WAN acceleration allows us to send less data through our WAN lines.* The easiness of the suite.* The reporting tool, Veeam One, is very powerful and helps obtain a clear view of the infrastructure situation.Improvements to My Organization:Let me start by mentioning that, before Veeam, my company used to backup data with Microsoft Robocopy. Backup times now are more than ten times faster and the data to be moved is only a fraction. This behaviour has been improved with the new version, 9.5.Room for Improvement:Determining the space for the WAN acceleration server sometimes is hard, especially if you have many source sites for the data. I would like to have a kind of storage space calculator that gives me an estimate for the size of the WAN accelerator server we are creating; give it a list of VMs to be backed up.I am requesting this because the standard rules in the Veeam End User Guide often resulted in us making a wrong calculation, especially for the target WAN acceleration machine. The result was many failed backups due to "no more space" errors! And creating a VM that is "too big” wastes precious space (the opposite of what we want to achieve).Use of Solution:I have used Veeam Backup & Replication and Endpoint Backup for three years and the full suite for six months.Stability Issues:Usually the program works well and it's stable.Scalability Issues:I think the resource request (storage space) for the whole suite (usually on a complex environment) is slightly high, especially the WAN accelerators. In any case, it is pretty scalable.Technical Support:Technical support is 7/10. Sometimes, it asks for logs and keeps asking for information that sometimes is unnecessary. This causes it to take a long time to understand the real problem and to obtain the solution.Previous Solutions:I previously used Backup Exec, the Acronis suite and many others, but Veeam was clearly better; that is the reason why I switched.Initial Setup:We needed more than a month to set up a stable and working installation: first, because I did not know well some of the deep functions of the suite; and second, because to get the best results from Veeam, you need to build a complex network of machines.Cost and Licensing Advice:Pricing is a bit high from my experience and licensing can be improved; my company is a holding company and we had problems using licenses for sites around the world in the HQ server. (It's not allowed; we had to merge all the licenses into one big one.)Other Solutions Considered:We saw more than a 10% compression ratio compared to Acronis Backup 11.5 tested earlier. I did it in March 2016 with a sample of 20 virtual machines and helped me complete a thorough test between various candidates (Veeam and Acronis were the finalists).Based on my experiences with other backup software, we headed straight for this option.Other Advice:Do some (at least) high-level training for the suite: If you don't want to waste time with many attempts during the installation, the best option is to understand the fundamentals of the Veeam suite. My impression is that this suite is usually reliable and very powerful.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By moving the Veeam server to a physical server and creating a Proxy server on each of the hosts we are able to leverage SAN based backup which is very fast. Valuable Features:Features with the most value are Instant VM Recovery, SQL Explorer and Exchange Explorer.Improvements to My Organization:With moving the Veeam server to a physical server and creating a Proxy server on each of the hosts we are able to leverage SAN based backup which is very fast. Jobs are completed overnight and never run in to the business hours.Room for Improvement:Physical backup is always where room for improvement could be but Veeam has always stated they are not going in that direction, however, with Veeam Endpoint Backup physical server backup is possible.Use of Solution:We have used it for approximately 2 months on Patch 2 but for over 3 years with Veeam itself.Deployment Issues:There have been no issues or problems with the deployment of Veeam in our environment even when we consolidated from 6 Veeam servers to 1 Veeam Server with 5 Proxy servers (1 per host).Stability Issues:Stability has always been the best part of Veeam and never has there been an issue with this.Scalability Issues:The scalability of Veeam is endless depending on your needs and there were no issues for us.Customer Service:Customer service is always been top notch and I rate it a 10/10.Technical Support:Technical support is 10/10. They are always fast with responding to tickets and help you in the best way possible. They even arrange discussions with Architects if you have questions on best practices or environment setup.Previous Solutions:We still use Symantec Backup Exec but only due to having physical Exchange 2010 servers. Once we virtualize this will be decommissioned. Having Veeam Endpoint Backup may be the alternate solution to fast track this.Initial Setup:Initial setup was very straightforward and there never seem to be issues with Veeam.Implementation Team:We completed the implementation in-house using local resources.ROI:ROI has been about 6 months.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated as we knew Veeam was one of the better solutions for Virtual Backup.Other Advice:Veeam is a great product and always works. The product setup is easy and learning of the product for someone technical is straightforward. I look forward to the improvements in this product as it progresses.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most valuable features are explorer for exchange and instant vm recovery. Veeam Vpower Technology could be better. Valuable Features:The most valuable features of this product are "explorer for exchange" and "instant vm recovery."Improvements to My Organization:One of our managers lost his mail box completely and using my product's explorer for exchange function I installed only that user's mail box without turning back to all exchange back up folder.Room for Improvement:"Veeam Vpower Technology" is the area of this product that is open for improvement.Use of Solution:I have been using this solution for 3 years.Deployment Issues:I haven't encountered any issues with deployment for 3 years.Stability Issues:The product has a flexible and improvable structure.Scalability Issues:As I said before the product has a versatile conformation.Customer Service:I rate the level of customer service 9 out of 10.Technical Support:The level of technical support is a 10 out of 10.Previous Solutions:I have previously used many different solutions and choose Veeam for its quick and correct solutions for my problems.Initial Setup:The initial setup of "Veeam Backup & Replication" is straightforward and easy.Implementation Team:I implemented the product myself on my own. I am the responsible system engineer supervising all back up systems and Veeam Products.Cost and Licensing Advice:Our original setup cost for this product was a fair price and we don't have any extra costs.Other Solutions Considered:Before choosing this product, I evaluated products of Symantec and Acronis.Other Advice:I advise this product to all system managers who need to use back up systems.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the most important features is the self-restart feature which we use to provide remote backups. Valuable Features:One of the most important features of Veeam is the excellent self-restart feature. We use Veeam to provide remote backups for us as well as our customers. Many times a communications glitch will occur that will disrupt the backup process during the offsite backup procedure. The product will automatically restart the process and continue self-monitoring and restarting until the backup is complete and also notify our support staff of its status. This self-restart feature also works very well on the local backups should a rare error situation occur.Another feature that is important to us is Veeams virtual server restart feature. This allows us to quickly restart a virtual sever. This feature provides an almost immediate server restart should a calamity occur.Another great feature is the ability to backup only the changed files/blocks. This results in very fast backups once the initial backup is done. Compression is also excellent with the Veeam product. This saves space on the target drive and as well as time on the data transmission process. This is very important during offsite backups. Lastly, a great feature is the encryption protection on the backups that protects data during the offsite backup process.Improvements to My Organization:It has greatly reduced the man power required to monitor the backup process. Coupled with the email notification feature, the BDR services that we offer can be managed by one person and subject matter knowledge can easily be transferred to another technician without extensive training.Room for Improvement:We would like to see a product that supports Linux, however, we believe that this support is already in the works.Use of Solution:We have used Veeam for about two years at our facility as well as at our customers facilities.Deployment Issues:We have had no issues with the deployment so far as multi-site WAN acceleration works out of the box, and so far we've been very happy with our experienceStability Issues:There have been no performance issues.Scalability Issues:We currently backup many TBs of data without any problem.Customer Service:The level of customer support is excellent.Technical Support:The support personnel are very articulate, knowledgeable, easy to understand, and provide a quick turn around on our questions.Previous Solutions:We have tried several other products and none were as good as Veeam. One competing product caught fire. Another product was not reliable on local or remote backups, and the other was extremely overpriced with low quality hardware, buggy software, low quality support, and low reliability.Initial Setup:It should be installed by a IT professional who understands security, backups and bandwidth. However, this applies to any company that wants to establish a rock sold BDR process. Before the implementation is started be sure to map out the data that is to be backed up, calculate the bandwidth, disk space, and time required to do the initial backup. Next, set up the local backup first and get it running properly. Then, set up the first initial offsite backup remembering that the first offsite backup may take several days. After that, the offsite backups will run very quickly.Implementation Team:We provide BDR services so we learned Veeam and installed it ourselves.Cost and Licensing Advice:Pricing of Veeam is excellent and is an excellent value proposition for both partners and customers.Other Solutions Considered:I have used and evaluated many backup and recovery solutions. Veeam came out on top for ease of use, reliability of job execution, backup validation, and speed of recovery in virtual environments.Other Advice:Veeam has been the best BDR product that we have ever used. Although it does require some expertise to set it up correctly, once it is set up it runs perfectly. Use an experienced Veeam company or consultant or spend time learning the product. It is very worthwhileSpend time to plan resources, bandwidth, etc. before installing the Veeam. Watch the Veeam process carefully in the first few weeks in order to learn what it does. It has a wide array of features so make sure you learn how to perform the various types of restores (e.g. virtual server restore, single file restore, etc.). Take advantage of the ability to provide local and remote backups and configure both for the target environment. What is very important, as in all BDR environments, is to regularly do a test restore of a few files to make sure that the backups and restores are working properly.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are a Veeam partner and very happy to be working with them. They have been and continue to be a very valuable partner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It drastically lowered the strain on our hosted environment during backup windows all while decreasing the amount of time the backups require for completion. Valuable Features:All of the explorers, bitlooker, scale out backup repository, and backup appliance integration.Improvements to My Organization:Veeam drastically lowered the strain on our hosted environment during backup windows all while decreasing the amount of time the backups require for completion. Upgrades to the backup environment take considerably less time to complete.Room for Improvement:The endpoint(agent) backup to be fully included/supported as part of the licensed product.Update: this functionality should be included sometime between Q4 2016 - Q1 2017Use of Solution:2+ years.Deployment Issues:No.Stability Issues:No.Scalability Issues:No.Customer Service:The customer service staff are always willing to provide any information or support that they can.Technical Support:They have the best backup support in the industry our time to resolution regarding any issue has been resolved in an expedited manner.Previous Solutions:Yes, we used EMC Avamar before and switched primarily due to cost however the Veeam/DataDomain offering is more robust.Update: We are now looking to move off of DataDomain due to restore speeds.Initial Setup:Setup is simple however to achieve best performance and results there are added design considerations.Implementation Team:We implemented the solution in house. We are a Veeam service provider but went to VeeamOn for additional training, not that the software is complicated but there is so much functionality that meeting the engineers provided great insight.ROI:We were seeing ROI within a year.Cost and Licensing Advice:Go for the availability suite which includes Veeam One. It can be had for an incremental cost and it provides very actionable alerts.Other Solutions Considered:Arcserve, Symantec, Unitrends, and VMware.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are a Veeam Customer and Partner.
