It delivers cost-efficient, two-sided output thanks to a high-yield replacement toner cartridge. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Design flaw with toner cartridges You will notice many reviews talking about spotting on pages that goes away after multiple prints. We bought 5 of these printers for our business, 3 of them developed this issue. after hours of troubleshooting and RMA'ing parts from brother (i've had dental work that was less painful than their support team I've narrowed down the issue to a manufacturing defect in the toner cartridges. the two of this model that have not yet malfunctioned use an older cartridge that has a solid green handle. the newer printers we ordered have a black handle with a green sticker on them, and the 4 toner cartridges (bought another new one) all developed a toner leaking issue. I would recommend not buying official brother toner or new old stock with the older style cartridge as the current cartridge they sell has a major defect they don't seem interested in fixing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When less means more Overall happy with product. Mine is a simple USB cable set up and setting it up was a breeze. The only issue so far happened when it didn't print on command. I went to the printer icon inside my control setting command on my desktop. I opened 'troubleshoot' and the unit worked through and fixed the problem. No other problems since. The only other thing is that I wish the documents I print would come out of the machine a little further, a minor gripe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good and Reliable Product So Far I have this printer for about 2 months. So far, it is working good. My previous printers Brother HL-L6200DW (I had 2 is a great nightmare. Both failed after couple months and always printed out dirty pages. I changed the drum unit and clean and not helping. Anyway, I am happy with HL-L5100DN for now.

However, the utility software pops up every time I print from Microsoft Word. Or rather, Windows asks permission for it to run whenever I print. I click No, and everything works. But it's irritating. One of these days I'll call Brother and ask how to stop that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, So Good! I am a new owner of this particular Brother printer and so far, it has performed very well and I especially like the "duplex" feature. It also prints text very sharp and there are a myriad of fonts to choose from, which is also a plus. The only negative aspect I can think of is the printer seems to leave some toner residue on the paper, but it is not really too prevalent. Overall, it has been a very good investment and suits my needs well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too Much Background "Dirt" We have 4 Brother printers in our business and all but this one are top-notch. Right from the beginning, the print job came out with lots of background "noise", if you will. I mean the document prints well but there is a dirty and spotty look to the paper. I called Tech Support and we went through the protocol for cleaning the drum and roller. That cleared it up a bit but for after a short while, the muddiness returned.

One quirk that is somewhat annoying - the machine does not "wake" from deep sleep mode with the first print request of the day. I have to reach over and press the power button to wake it from deep sleep. If I don't, the printer software thinks there is an error and the printer has become disconnected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp, sharp print, fast, great duplex Excellent output, very crisp, sharp text and good graphics. Takes a big electrical load when heating up and is a bit noisy, but quieter than the older HL-5470DW. There is a setting that makes it even quieter but slows it down a bit. The fuser started to go after almost 4 years on that similar older HL-5470DW and it cost more to replace the fuser and drum than a new printer, sure hope this one is longer lasting. Even set to automatic duplex (called 2-sided now it doesn't pull the paper back through when printing a single one-sided page thus speeding the output, unlike the older model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer I have owned Brother printers since the HL 1040. They are work horses. I have very high volume printing needs. With the L5100DN I was pleased with the ease of the install. The set up on the net work was also made simpler. On the net work I have found that the L5100DN has a quicker first page print than the previous 5450DN. I also like the new control panel that is used on the L5100DN. It is easier to follow the new window and not have to rely on just a pattern of lights.The only issue that I have with the Brother printer line is that some Citrix programs do not carry the format through the Citrix universal print driver to the Brother driver correctly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine printer I got this printer because the paper feeder on my old Brother printer wore out. I gave it to my daughter to fix and use, since the rest of the machine worked just fine. After some back and forth with Brother technical support, we determined that the toner cartridge was bad. This included my scanning a page on my scanner/printer. I guess I was showing off, since it was a Brother brand all-in-one. Brother sent me a new toner cartridge. The cartridge came with explicit drawings and text about removing the old cartridge and putting in the new one. Now the printer works perfectly, printing two-sided documents cleanly, crisply and fast -- oh so fast. BTW -- Although I may sound like a Brother fanboi I did my homework before each purchase. Brother is just a good manufacturer.

Cost of operation is lower by far than other printers. The oldest is now six years old and has printed tens of thousands of documents with zero problems. I recommend highly. Easy set up. Doesn't require IT person to set up.

Strange click at start and stop. Small delay before print start. Good footprint, great print quality, good speed, as advertised. Miss my old HP 4000, 4050 printers.

I'm very pleased with the software installation and support by Windows 10 Pro, the speed, and the ease of selecting options (page orientation, duplex printing, etc.), print speed, and paper capacity. The price was reasonable, too.
