Rated 5 out of 5 by from Premium Chromebook at a premium price I have had a Google Chromebook Pixel (2015) for almost 6 years. It was beginning to break down and I was looking for a replacement. I wanted to match the specs and performance of the Pixel. The c1030 is a perfect replacement for my Pixel. Improvements: newer everything, fingerprint reader, quality keyboard and trackpad, bigger/faster hard drive, bigger screen, lighter weight and smaller footprint. The performance is at least as good as the Pixel; battery life is probably better. The speakers sound good, the fan is quiet and it doesn't get as warm on my lap as the Pixel did. The screen resolution isn't as good on paper, but I haven't noticed any difference. The webcam is pretty bad, but I hardly use it. I bought the base model c1030 for $999, which is what my Pixel cost in 2015. I HAD to have a 3:2 screen ratio as on the Pixel; few Chromebooks offer that. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Most Affordable Premium 2 in 1 in the World I am shocked that this chromebook is not more popular. It is the best chromebook ever made, and the most affordable premium 2 in 1 laptop in the world. This is a tight, small, all metal device that is light, and thus, unlike the grand majority of all other 2 in 1 devices, is wonderful to use in tablet mode. The fingerprint reader is fast, the trackpad is the best I have ever felt, and the backlit keyboard is premium. The 16:10 aspect ratio is the new thing, of course this chromebook has that as well. The HP USI pen that you can buy separately attaches exceptionally well to the device, like it was made for it, unlike other USI pen/chromebook relationships that chromebook reviewers seem to never want to talk about. All other 2 in 1 chromebooks feel cheap, bulky, out of date or just plain second class in comparison to the sturdiness, lightness and premium feel of the HP Elite C1030 chromebook. I can't overemphasize how sturdy, beautiful and compact this is. Similar premium Windows 2 in 1s are WAY more expensive, and everybody knows that windows is bad in tablet mode. Chrome OS is much more streamlined y tablet friendly. The battery is a 51 wt 4 cell battery, bigger than all its chromebook 2 in 1 competitors - I get 11.5 hours of real world heavy usage, being careful to conserve battery of course where possible. As a regular laptop, this base model offers all the power chromebook users will ever need. There are no flaws. This is the new standard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Pixelbook Successor After 3 years my Pixelbook touch screen stopped working. I was devestated. It was the best laptop I've owned, Windows or Chrome. It was sleek, lightweight, and had a fast i5 processor. Plus I love the 2 in 1 form factor, as I use tablet mode while surfing on my couch. I had a few replacement options. First was the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, which had everything that the Pixelbook had plus a delicious red color. However, reviews showed that the battery life was lacking due to the overkill monitor spec. Plus, the hinge pinched me when I demo'd it, so we started off on the wrong foot. Second up was the Acer Spin 713. It had rave reviews and a very attractive price point for a premium Chromebook. Unfortunately, it was almost a pound heavier and bigger overall than the Pixelbook. Plus, subjectively it just wasn't very exciting to look at. I think the biggest dealbreaker for me was that I had bought my son the Acer r11 Chromebook a year earlier. While not a premium Chromebook, the Acer's touchpad broke after only a month of use. The Acer also only had a 1 year warranty compared to 3 years on the HP c1030. The adage, you get what you pay for, applies on the Acer. So it came down to the HP Elite c1030. Unfortunately, it's an enterprise class laptop so it is very expensive and not even out in stores. I had no way of previewing. Fortunately, I had a similar Windows HP Laptop at work, so I felt like it wouldn't be too different. Furthermore, the spec sheet showed that it was lighter than the Acer, had a 3:2 scale monitor which is perfect for surfing in tablet mode, and had a 3 year warranty. The biggest drawback was the i5 was over $1200! I did some digging and discovered that the 10th gen i3 is actually faster than the 7th gen i5 in my Pixelbook. The Pixelbook had all the power I needed, except it did get a little sluggish when on occasion I did some video editing. So I got the HP Elite c1030 with the i3. Verdict: the laptop arrived today and I have been using it most of the day. The form factor is great. It's about the same size as the Pixelbook except a little thicker. It's lightweight enough to use as a tablet. The design is sleek and the modern. The keyboard is nicely backlit with very premium key strokes, not the cheap plasticly feel on lessor laptops. I was a little disappointed that it came with a built in fan as the Pixelbook was fanless, but if it can extend the life of this thing beyond the 3 years I got out of my Pixelbook then I am all for it. The display size is outstanding. While the laptop is the same size as the Pixelbook, the thin bezels on the HP make the screen look bigger than its size. While the display color and contrast look great, I could nitpick that this is 2nd HP where I felt the display could be more evenly backlit. I got the Brightview display and not the matte display btw. Also, the thin bezel means that I had a few accidental touches that changed my page. The super responsiveness of the touchscreen exacerbates the issue. Speakers work great for the laptop, although max volume will not disturb your family members too much. Sound quality wasn't tinny for a laptop and had some range. An early review I've seen on a preproduction model pointed to poor webcam quality. While it is a 720p webcam, I wasn't too disappointed in mine and should be just fine on my zoom calls and google meets. Overall, super happy so far and hope I get as much enjoyment out of it as I did my pixelbook. PROS - Lightweight but sturdy 3 Year Warranty HP Quality Looks great Keyboard CONS 1080 webcam please Slight uneven backlighting on display Price - the i3 is almost $300 more than the i5 Acer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Chromebook ever and I have used them all! I have been using Chromebooks for 10 years. The c1030 is the best ever. The i3 is quick on Chrome, the keyboard is top notch and the screen is sharp. The battery gets me 9-10 hours of heavy daily usage!! Slick feel and look too. I thought my Pixelbook Go in Not Pink was high end but this one is so good that it made me sell my Pixelbook Go and Samsung Galaxy Chromebook on eBay!!
