ThinkPad P17 Mobile Workstation
My Lenovo ThinkPad P17 mobile workstation came with a 17? UHD 3840×2160, IPS screen with anti-glare, this is the highest-end option available. Colors were crisp and sharp, at 17? size it was tough to read at max settings, scaling up to 250% is recommended for general work usage. The keyboard is of standard Lenovo type, smooth and ample keypress feel to it. Speakers located in the space above the keyboard give ample audio output for general use.

Too soon to tell
So far I enjoy that it boots up fast. Wish it came with Windows 11 but I'm stuck with a notice to check back for an upgrade. Purchased this device brand new in Feb 2022. Really would have preferred to have the latest Windows preinstalled. Aside from that, it generally does have loud fans unless a lot of systems are running.

Workstation hidden in a laptop!
A workstation wrapped up in a laptop. Needed a new workstation to handle large CAD files and 3d assemblies while having the convenience of being mobile. This is the perfect laptop for my engineering and design needs. Full keyboard with numeric keypad, large 17" screen, and well built (solid/sturdy case) A bit heavy, but that is to be expected given the size and the quality components needed to for an engineering laptop. I've owned for a month so far and it has met my expectations.

Big and very powerful
There's nothing subtle about this machine. It's huge, which is understandable for a workstation-class 17" laptop. It's also exactly what I want. It's got the wonderful ThinkPad build quality, not to mention performance specs (i9 octocore, Quadro RTX 3000, 4k bright screen) that would make many desktops jealous. Even better, it backs up those specs with actual performance.
If you're looking for something big and bad, this is it. Just be aware that it's a good amount larger and heavier than a 15" laptop. For me, it's exactly that I need.

The Finest Portable Workstation Available P17(17")
I purchased this machine as a replacement for a Thinkpad Helix 2 that had served me well for 6 years. It is still running just fine but my needs have changes as well as my eye sight (17" display versus 12") This is by far the most powerful PC I have ever owned. It is a joy to use and I have a sense of pride as I use it with my clients (I am a CPA/Financial Consultant). It is a BIG machine which is fine for me as I truly needed a mobile workstation not a ultra-book. It has all the attributes that I have come to love in a Thinkpad, not the least of which is an outstanding full sized keyboard. There is nothing as nice as Thinkpad keyboard. It is incredibly fast, not only to boot up, but in these days of Zoom calls etc. it compiles the Zoom videos I need to send to my clients at 200 mph. It is technically a beautiful machine. I also opted for the 4k screen which is work every penny of the incremental cost. I spend a large number of my working days utilizing this machine and it makes my work easier and more enjoyable.

Portable powerhouse
Very powerful computer that can handle massive files. This thing is heavy but you have to know that going into it and be comfortable carrying 15 lbs anytime you want to take it with you. The laptop itself is over 10 lbs and I'd guess the power supply is another 5. Finding a good quality backpack/case for it was a challenge but OGIO has some good options. I've only had this laptop for a couple months but it has done everything I need it to with ease.

Powerful and fast
I love how fast and powerful this workstation is! My only complaint is just how heavy it is compared to my old HP laptop (about 9 pounds!) but I realize this is meant to be a workstation more than just a laptop. The screen is beautiful and the customizations and features are great. I'm still figuring out everything that is has. I use this as a professional photographer and it runs my Adobe products with ease.

Performance
So far I'm very happy with my ThinkPad P17. It's little heavier than I expected; however, the performance is amazing. My main concern is that it hasn't upgraded to Windows 11 yet and that's one of the main reasons I bought it. Also it retains passwords that I don't want it to do. Otherwise, it's working great and out-performing my previous Lenovo.

This is a great mobile SolidWorks CAD station
I purchased this laptop for use as a portable SolidWorks CAD station. The Core i9 processor combined with 64GB of RAM and a Quadro graphics card make it the perfect solution for my needs. I only have one minor point which is the 1TB SSD which isn’t quite big enough to carry my CAD library with me when I work away from my network for a longer period of time. I’ll have to add a 2TB drive to accommodate that.

This laptop came ready to go out of the box and within minutes I was up and running high power applications, which is exactly why I purchased this laptop. Beyond performance (which are abundantly clear from the spec's) this has the traditional thinkpad feel with a great touchpad with mouse buttons on top & bottom and the iconic tracpoint along with a responsive keyboard give this the look and feel that you've come to expect from Lenovo.
Only downside of my end is its a bit heavy, but that's what you get with a high-power 17 incher.

If you're looking for something big and bad, this is it. Just be aware that it's a good amount larger and heavier than a 15" laptop. For me, it's exactly that I need.

EXCELLENT MOBILE WORK STATION
Firstly, I love this PC because of its processing power which can run tones of apps at once. And as an engineering student, this is vital. Additionally, it has many ports which is compatible with my J5 dock device. Also, it has been a great cad station. Honestly, this is a must have- make the sacrifice and you won’t regret.

The Professional Designers Laptop!!!!
This work station is a game changer! I am own a Welding and Fabrication buisness, and use multiple CAD softwares to design our projects, as well as run a CNC Plasma Table. I used an Alienware Gaming laptop for a little over a year, until the motherboard failed just outside of the warranty period.
The Alienware did...okay. It ran the programs, but I couldn't use multiple at the same time without it getting very slow. With intruicut drawings in flashcut, my CAD/CAM/CNC program, it was unbearable.
Excited to try out this new powerhouse, I went straight for a drawing that ok the Alienware had major issues. Before, I'd make one simple change to the drawing and would wait 5 minutes before it would apply. On the overpowerd think pad? About 30 seconds. Still a lag, but it was usable!
I then tried more day to day drawings. In solid works, everything was seamless. What I felt was fast and efficient before, became instantaneous and noticeably smother. The screen was vibrant and clear, and just overall more enjoyable to use.
One other note that is worth mentioning is the anti-glare screen. I've always had issues concentrating whole working in the car which I attribute to how difficult it is to see the screen. Even on the sunniest day, the laptop is extremely visible and was a pleasure to work on.

Shipping Customs, Bad RAM, but Great PC!
I waited extra long for Customs to approve my PC from China and the Shipping process wasn't so fun. I then got my PC with bad RAM. I was sent new RAM next day to install and ever since, great PC!
Some really cool software exists and Webcam tracking which goes great with the software thay has privacy tools, move the mouse to the screen you're looking at and returns to the original spot when you previously looked.
Great machine so far, the BIOS design is great.

The Brooks Brothers suit of laptops
This is my 8th ThinkPad in the past 20 years and I'm pretty thrilled with it so far. It's replacing a well-loved W530, which I'm keeping too. This is quite the upgrade. The 4K screen is glorious, I strongly recommend paying the extra for that feature, you will not regret it. What else can I say? It's a premium grade business laptop. The gold standard by which all other business laptops are measured. If, like me, you're unimpressed with sharp-edged alumimum laptops with too-shallow keyboards and other ergonomic compromises, you'll love the P17. It feels like it was hewn out of a solid block of polycarbonate and carbon fiber. Solid and substantial, but not heavy. It's covered in a lovely and durable soft-touch material which feels worlds better than anodyzed aluminum to me. The aluminum is durable, but it feels incredibly unfriendly to me, especially with the unnecessarily sharp edges. This ThinkPad by comparison feels almost organic. It feels just right beneath the wrists. The keyboard is superb. If you're used to ThinkPads, you'll be right at home. If you're used to anything else, you're in for a treat. As for the rest of the machine, it has all the features you'd want out of a premium business laptop or workstation/desktop replacement. It's fast, virtually silent most of the time, it runs cool. It has solid selection of well-placed ports. The power and Ethernet ports are out back where they stay out of the way. The whole unit exemplifies the top tier design ethos and material quality that ThinkPads are legendary for. If I had a criticism it would only be that it's a shame Lenovo has not yet managed to update it to 11th gen core processors (or better yet, offer an AMD Ryzen option). If Ryzen had been offered, I would have taken it. But the 10th gen Core i7 is more than sufficient and they go all the way up to i9's and Xeons, if you're so inclined. You get 4 RAM slots which can host up to a ludicrous 128 GB of RAM (I got 16 GB, which I'll upgrade to 32 GB total myself). The bottom of the machine is simple to access in classic ThinkPad fashion. All you need to do is loosen a few captive phillips head screws and you can upgrade SSD and RAM or service your own machine easily. I am actually a long time Mac user as well, but I've owned more ThinkPads than Macs. macOS is still the superior operating system without a doubt, but Apple just keeps disappointing me with their hardware decisions which makes it really hard to shell out money on a new one. The new Apple Silicon processors have exceptional performance, battery life and thermals that leave Intel and AMD in the dust....but you cannot even upgrade your own SSD now! Everything is soldered to the board. Forget repairing your own machine outside of warranty, much less adding RAM or a bigger/faster new SSD. No longer an option. This is unacceptable Apple. Especially in an allegedly "pro" grade device. You want to make a consumer MacBook Air with soldered RAM and SSD? Go right ahead I guess. But if you're going to call a machine "pro" and ask more than $1000 for it, I'd better be able to open it without needing to fight through adhesives or buy special arcane tools and I better be able to repair and upgrade the SSD and RAM. Especially if you're going to charge twice the price for RAM upgrades at time of purchase. Enough ranting about Apple though. I recommend the P17 heartily, though if you can wait (I couldn't) you might consider hanging on until the 2nd gen P17 comes out since it should have 11th gen core CPU's (and if we're REALLY lucky, maybe an AMD Ryzen option, though I won't hold my breath on that one). The performance difference with the 11th gen isn't huge and the P17 has discrete graphics, so I wasn't as concerned about missing out on the new Xe graphics as I might have been otherwise, but if you can wait just the same, you might as well until the 2nd gen P17's drop.

Great laptop. A few minor deficiencies.
Awesome power. Bright screen. Nice connectivity options. However, I was spoiled by my Sony Vaio Core i7 for 11 years that had dedicated hard buttons for Play/Pause, Next/Prev track, WiFi On/Off -- and I miss those. Also, the front edge is quite sharp -- it catches my watch band, and I feel like I could use it to pare the skin off a carrot if I wanted. My particular unit shipped with a defective power supply that showed "lower wattage" error on startup. However, Lenovo immediately shipped a new one and the issue is resolved. Great support!

My opinion
A great update on my old Thinkpad T510. Plays nicely with win10. Handles large video rendering tasks with ease. Touchpad a bit too sensitive at start, but plan to adjust soon. Keyboard a bit offset to left to fit in numerical keypad, but getting used to it. The HDR 4K display works fine. Images are both detailed and bright. Overall very happy with this purchase.

No major complaints here!
Haven't had any issues and pretty happy! I got this to run VirtualBox and no laggy issues or anything. Before purchasing, I read people complaining about the fan being loud...like unbearably loud. No idea what they're talking about. I think the fan makes minimal noise. If I could give this an extra half star I would...4.5 stars. My only issue is the display. Maybe I should have upgraded the video card. It seems fine except when I'm on Zoom; my picture isn't as clear to me as I would like but maybe that's an issue with the camera?

ThinkPad exceeds my expectations once again!!
This is my 2nd lenovo thinkpad and use a 3rd for work. I bought this one for wife after her fairly new Dell was having harddrive and wifi issues! As with my other ThinkPad's, it has an amazingly fast startup, handles everything with ease! no lagging or stalled programs. No wifi or hd issues, wife is loving it.
It is a slight bit heavy due to a quality built product that could handle a minor bump or small drop to a table. The ThinkPad's keep exceeding my expectations and I highly recommend it to others looking for a well built laptop.

Fantastic business machine
As a professional writer, I've used ThinkPad's for years. Never a single warranty claim or problem with ANY of them. My P17 is my 9th ThinkPad and I really couldn't ask for a better device for my craft. The keyboard is exceptional, there's a reason why they are known for this! Laptop is fast and nearly silent most of the time. The 4K screen is gorgeous. The entire thing is solid as a rock and exudes quality from every inch. The trackpoint is invaluable, still the best way to control a cursor ever devised and Lenovo is just about the only company still offering them. If you're looking for a serious machine to get real work done, the P17 is an excellent choice.

Lenovo ThinkPad P17 - Best Bang For The Buck.
After spending weeks of research into finding the best computer, at the best price, to fill our needs we purchased the Lenovo ThinkPad P17 Mobile Workstation. Nothing about it was a disappointment. It integrated with our network, met our Windows 10 needs and performs flawlessly. The speed of the i9 processor is shockingly fast and the non-mechanical hard drive adds to the smooth and fast operation. The screen is large, sharp and crystal clear. The amount and variety of access ports are sufficient, easily accessible and numerous enough to provide whatever we need for attachments. It's a pleasure to work with and dependable. Fabulously expandable innards
Even my 16-gig-RAM model is a powerhouse for my work. And unlike most current laptops now -- including even the once-user-upgradable, once-tanklike Thinkpad T line -- the CPU, SSD drives (there's room for 2, and RAM (in 2 locations, one under the keyboard and the other, more accessibly, especially when working in the field, under the bottom) are not soldered, for easy boosting of future performance. This configuration's antiglare display with 500-nit brightness (200 above the default) means great readability in bright sunlight. At almost 8 lbs this is the new Thinkpad tank, with its fan noisy when the processor works its hardest. But for high performance, it can't be beat. The case is not as finely machined as those of my past Thinkpad Ts and Xes: the keyboard bezel's plastic feels flimsy, and the seam of mine irritates the skin of the wrists, cut to too sharp an edge, without any beveling for the most comfortable possible typing. Aside from that, I love this.

Powerful machine with great price.
Excellent performance. Very sharp display. I purchased this around Memorial day sales event so the price is great as well. The machine provides room to accommodate up to 4 RAMs and multiple SSDs. It's a little heavier than I've expected, and that's the only downside. But I think that's due to the room it has to leave for extra RAMs and SSDs.

This unit is a beast. Weighing in at 9.4 Lbs. with the included 230-watt power adapter it’s heavy. I do/will need to carry it quite often. That aside, I expected it to be a beast. At least I am already prepared for carrying a 10Lb laptop 17.3” as far as carrying case/backpack. Take this as a warning if you will be mobile with this product.
Upgrades for ½ of the RAM and both drives are simple. THANK YOU LENOVO!!! Lenovo puts an easily accessible door on the bottom to access 2 of the 4 RAM modules and both NVMe slots. All that is needed to access these is a #2 Philips screwdriver. Of course, an ESD wrist band as well. I wouldn’t touch the innards of a machine like this without the ESD protection. To access the other half of the RAM a little more work is necessary, but Lenovo provides information on this and there are videos on the internet showing how to access the primary RAM sockets.
Graphics: Compared to my last machine, MSI GS73 Stealth Pro (i7, 4k, GeForce GTX1070, 32Gb, 2x2tb Evo Plus NVMe’s) this unit is light years ahead. Of course, it’s difficult to compare the GeForce to the Quadro but for my purpose the Quadro is the right card. The wider memory bus width (64bit wider). (320bit vs 256bit) provides better performance for design apps and is tuned more for design apps. Not to mention many of the more prominent design apps are tuned to the Quadro’s abilities. The 16Gb RAM on the Quadro 5000 also helps. I’ll leave the rest of the argument to be fought between gamers and designers or engineers. Suffice to say my Graphics benchmarks via UserBench were fantastic and I ran a couple games at 4k, 60hz without a hiccup or stutter. If I need something different, or better FPS I can always use a good external monitor, but I am sure the card can handle it. I am more than happy with the built in screen. The anti-glare is perfect as well.
One thing Lenovo provided that MSI and/or ASUS did not is a proper INF file for Windows 10 for the built-in screen. I am still terribly disappointed in MSIs non-existent support of proper Windows driver/inf support for the actual LCD.
The only nit-pick I have is the bezel. It is wide. This is certainly not an edge-to-edge screen. HOWEVER, I chalk this up to the ruggedness of this unit compared to the GS73. This unit can and will take abuse fare better than the GS73 could. It is built like a tank, so the screen bezel doesn’t bother me that much, it just looks a bit off after using a unit with a thinner bezel for a couple years.
Another very nice ability of this Lenovo, which was not available on the MSI GS73, is the ability to completely disable the built in Intel graphics at the BIOS level and have the OS run completely under the Quadro 5000 on the built in card, never even seeing the built in Intel graphics. That was an issue for me on the MSI GS73. Maybe later BIOS updates on the MSI offered this but not on the version mine was on.
And not only because it’s an i9. The design of this unit is a phenomenal no-nonsense, no flash or flare solid design. I like the clean lines, texture (soft-touch paint) and shape. No unnecessary curves, colors, flares, or flashy bits. Just a good clean design.
Keyboard: I am not a fan of the feel of this keyboard. It feels a bit ‘hollow’ and ‘tinny’. Not tactile enough for me. You might call it ‘Hollow and slippery’. The MSI has a great keyboard. What fixes this for me is after I laid down a nice ultra-thin rubber/silicone keyboard cover the ‘hollow’ feel of the keyboard disappears. So, I can live with it. I only wish the keyboard was a bit more solid.
WiFi access at the BIOS level. NICE.
Very little if any ‘bloat-ware’. I think Lenovo learned their lesson.
Fingerprint sensor is perfectly placed for a right-hander.
TRACKPOINT! TRACKPOINT! TRACKPOINT! Only a true TrackPoint user will understand.
The Lenovo ‘Quick Clean’ utility was deleted after first use. It locks you out of your input devices while running. BAD-BAD-BAD! Totally unacceptable. I removed it after the first run and will not look back at that garbage. How dare any software product EVER disable my input in any way! Scary and unacceptable.
However, all the other Lenovo utilities are rock-solid and unobtrusive enough to keep them installed and used. I use their update utility and am a fan of them now. Again, less bloatware and more actually useful utilities that are not obtrusive.
Performance. It performs for me at %110. I have had no issues and it performs as the specs would suggest.
Thunderbolt. THANK GOD FOR A WINDOWS MACHINE WITH TWO (2) THUNDERBOLT PORTS! I feel most manufacturers think only Apple machines deserve two TB3 ports. Geese! All ports on this laptop have been flawless and I have put them through their paces. Fast, and far more compatible than the MSI. Positioning is excellent as well. Docking type ports (TB3, power, and a single USB-c) on the rear and the side ports that I would say are more dynamically used are perfect. See Lenovo’s site for specs and positions of the ports. But for me this machine is a breath of fresh air. Absolute perfection compared to what I’ve had and used in the past. I’ve paired it with Seagate FireCuda 4tb Gaming dock. That device is fantastic on it’s own but that’s another review.
Bugs: Intel Wireless card does have a couple bugs. Search google for ‘Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201’ issues and you can research for yourself. I was not happy, but I’ve resolved the issue enough for now to be satisfied for now. I will be replacing that card soon. Note: always have a preferred network and for now use a random MAC.
Thermals: It needs to have the bottom clear. The small rubber/silicone feet do this well but the intake for airflow is on the bottom and this needs that small airspace the feet provide. When on my desk it positioned on a laptop cooling base with fans that are set on low (just about inaudible) and I’ve had no issue with thermals. But I’ve tried pushing it while on a surface that blocked this airflow and the results were not good. The internal fan can kick up a storm, and it will when the machine is pushed. But it never loses control. I’ve had it throttle itself several times but never beyond what I expected. I feel Lenovo did a good job on this aspect of the design.
So that’s all I have for now. Maybe more after I’ve had it for a couple months.

P17 is a beast!
I was looking to buy a Dell Mobile Precision 5750 but was browsing lenovo's website and found a P17 w/ a Xeon W-10855, 32GB of ram, 1TB SSD and an RTX 5000 at a much better performance to price ratio than Dell. Lenovo always has generally great deals especially during holidays. Their build quality and upgradability is also second to none.

Powerful laptop but not for everyone!
My thought on this laptop:
-A power house mobile laptop that is designed for performance with proper heat dissipation vent and heat sink.
-triple layers security built-in (BIOS/IR camera/ fingerprint)
-The abundant of ports -->plenty of ports for whatever you need to do
-Configurable specs
-Display calibrated out of the box --> perfect for video editing profesional
-definitely on the heavier side of the laptop's weight spectrum
-Upgradable internal (Possibly GPU, Ram, SSD)

Great if you don't need to travel with it
This large powerful laptop definitely fits in the category of "desktop replacement". It even has a number pad, I love it! I bought it for work, and wanted something that will be fast enough to have a long useful life. I carry it to other rooms in the house, but never travel with it; I have a secondary (smaller laptop for travel.
I love the large screen and the powerful CPU (i7) with seperate GPU. Good for occasional video editing. Battery life is good. I like having the trackpoint, although it has that issue where it just stops working every once in a while. Seems to be a common complaint.
Immediately added an extra 1TB M2 drive for more storage.

A Tank of a Machine
I've owned a Lenovo Ideapad for almost 10 years (that's still going strong), so upgrading with Lenovo was a no-brainer. This thing is fast, responsive and runs big apps like Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve, Corel Suite and Lightroom as well as my home build. The 4K screen is beautiful and the keyboard is tight and very similar to my old Ideapad. I read a lot about the chassis build and this thing really is impressive. It's heavy, solid and lifting the lid is strangely satisfying. I do a lot of graphics and video work and I can highly recommend the P17. Haven't had much time to try it out for gaming, but with the RTX 3000, I'm looking forward to it.

Audio and video content creation
I got this to do audio and video editing using Reaper (with a ton of VST plugins) and Adobe Premiere Pro. I'm also livestreaming in 1080p60 using OBS. It does exactly as I hoped, speeding up the process of rendering 1080p videos and studio quality audio very quickly. I'm having to get used to having the power and USB C outlets on the back panel. Also, it's really heavy, which is OK for me as I use it primarily at home and at the office. I wouldn't want to use it for alot of travel. The display is fabulous, and it handles my peripherals very well (external monitors, keyboard and mouse, audio interface, MIDI controllers, etc.).
My only complaint is that the cooling fan is pretty loud, so I have to be careful when recording with a sensitive mic.

Great machine for computational work from home
I just bought a Lenovo ThinkPad P17 to boost my productivity to work from home. I am impressed with the processor speed and integrated GPU. I have set up dual booting with Windows 10 (which came pre-installed and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Working in molecular visualization and drug design, I have installed several discipline specific pieces of software on the appropriate partitions. I have been happy with ease of setup and the processing speed of the apps. What I had hoped for was a lighter version of my workstations in the lab, so that I can prototype, troubleshoot, and perform data analysis, while also serving basic compute needs (MS word, powerpoint, email, etc). So far, this has met or exceeded all my expectations. Thanks for delivering a reasonably priced workstation suitable for work at home.

It's big, bad, and completely worth it.
Lenovo P17. Intel i9-10885, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVM HDD, RTX 3000 Quadro, 4K display.
I needed a mobile workstation to take into the field for on-site 3D modeling.
Performance not quite as good as my high-end desktop, but very close. I repeat: it's VERY close to the performance of my desktop. I'm impressed.
Fan noise can get loud but is not constant. Mostly stays on desk as main PC and occasionally goes out to job. Super quiet otherwise.
OEM HDD is solid with no problems but still added a 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO plus. Plenty fast. Cold boot up less than 10 secs with biosensor fingerprint login.
Bought the usb-c dock but the current version can't charge it while connected - still need to plug in OEM charging brick.
Battery life is acceptable. Must use power settings to dial back performance on battery. 3 hours max on normal performance. I can see 6+ hours if I disable the RTX Quadro & use integrated CPU graphics, battery saver power mode, wifi only (disable 4G LTE), reduce resolution, and dim the screen. It's not apple level but it's definitely acceptable.
I had trouble finding a decent carrying case for it but eventually found one. It's heavy but you don't buy this mobile workstation for frequent travel.
It's a beast. Definitely worth it.

Overall a great powerhouse of a machine.
Great machine overall with great specs and a very nice screen. The build quality is in line with what you expect from ThinkPads. It's definitely heavy, but that's to be expected with the screen size and expansion options. The only downside for me is the fan noise, which is VERY loud in a 'whining' way. It's louder than my full-sized gaming tower that has 6 large fans in it. Not a deal breaker for me, but something to be aware of.

High performance laptop
After only a few weeks use I find the P17 Core i9 laptop has functioned perfectly. It easily runs large models in SolidWorks, Femap, and MatLab. The 3840x2160 display makes it so easy for the eyes. I imagine that I have not yet experienced its full potential. Only suggestion that I have now is to make rounded and smooth the outer edge of the deck part surrounding the keyboard and trackpad. The material of this deck is great. I like the placement of the power button and ports around the edge of this case.

Runs solidly, feels great to work on
With these P17s, so much depends on your configuration. Overall, the laptop runs steadily, feels nice to type on, does not slide across the table--just sits sturdily. A lot of reviews mention that it's too heavy to take with you. I could see that if you were taking public transit and need to carry all of your things long distances, otherwise, I have no idea what people are complaining about. Just pick it up. I wish the manufacturers hadn't swapped the function and control keys -- annoying. I understand those can be reprogrammed to switch back. I'll probably end up doing that. The processor I chose was somewhere in the middle. Do wish I'd gone for the Xeon, although the price would have suffered. Opted for the nicer screen. The display is amazing. Got the 1 TB SSD. That's great so far. Also got 64G memory. Works well. Very happy with my purchase. If you can swing the faster processor, I'd recommend that.

Multiple problems
Slow in saving documents, slow in downloading. Several buttons keep doing things they are not supposed to. The worst part is the poor customer service. The service is based in India. Some people I could not understand, and if I asked to speak to someone that I could understand they placed me on "hold" (yesterday I hung up after being on hold for 20 minutes). So if there had been a way to remotely fix the problem, I finally gave up. Truly a bad purchase for both the computer and poor service. I needed a computer for work and I could not rely on this one.

My New ThinkPad P17 (17”) Mobile Workstation
I really like my new ThinkPad P17 (17”) Mobile Workstation. The battery life is so much better than my last laptop. With lots of USB ports and just love the 4K monitor as it looks great. The only problem I had is activation of MS Office that took some doing to get it done. And to turn off the Touch Pad that was wrong in the manual, it has to be turned off in Windows Settings. The 4K monitor has make some of my software for Photoshop and On1, Lightroom looking so small but with a little adjustment everything is working great.

Expectedly heavy, but that's what you need to run Adobe CC at full tilt. The dual video cards are easy to manage. The nVidia card can be whitelisted per app, or in the BIOS the Intel card can be disabled with the nVidia GPU set as the default GPU for Windows and all apps, which we chose at the cost of battery life.

Why you should consider a Lenovo P17 Workstation
My selection of the Lenovo was based on the need for a 17 inch screen, fast processing speed, memory/storage expandability, good display specifications and physical durability. I do considerable traveling and choose to keep all my files and over 30,000 images in my laptop. My prior two lap top decisions were too heavily based on weight constraints, which drove the selection of laptops with adequate computing power, but with frailty resulting in premature physical failure of the laptop structure from my hours of use and traveling schedule. In selecting my next laptop, quite a number of computers were compliant with my computing power requirements, but almost none were also were compliant with MIL-STD 810G for physical durability. My choice of the Lenovo ThinkPad P17 was a great decision. The computer performs wonderfully in all respects, and its slightly greater wieght turned out to be a non-issue for me.

Beautiful machine, fast and clear!
This workstation laptop does almost everything great. I have only one concern which is probably a software setting issue and not the fault of the laptop. The machine has the 17.3" UHD (3840 x 2160 monitor which is beautiful but when running solidworks 3d modeling software the menu are miniscule! All other programs work fine with the fonts set to 250% enlargement. If I can get the settings tweaked in solidworks it will be perfect! For now I've got the resolution set to a slightly lower setting and it works very well.

Excellent Mobile Work Station
Purchased 2 of these for new employees who will be running mainly ReVit and AutoCAD, this thigs are very quick handling large Revit models easily. The 17" display is very bright and has excellent contrast. Like all other Thinkpad devices i have purchased in the past the build quality is excellent. Battery life is what we expected, its not going to run all day on battery but does handle running on battery during meeting and collaborating with others with out issue.
I debated about going with the smaller 15" screen units, i'm glad i stuck with the larger 17" screen, much easier to work when not at our desks with dual displays, the 17" display is an excellent size for remote dsigning.
I would highly recommend the P17 mobile workstation.

TP P17 Rocks
Its a beast of a machine and is replacing a loaded TP W520. Noticeable upgrades are the SSD drive and a proper set of speakers. Obviously, everything is upgraded since 2004, but those are the two biggest bangs for the bucks.
Purchase was quick and easy and delivery was under a week with everything arriving in good shape.
My first task with it was to install Linux Mint (not a Windows fan which was completely painless although I don't have the fingerprint reader working yet.
So far I'm very happy with it. The trackpad, buttons, and red dot all have a nice touch as does the keyboard. The upgraded graphics and display are impressive. Performance is the real driver though and this machine crunches through both processor and disk intensive jobs an order of magnitude quicker that the old W520 it replaced.

I Love My New ThinkPad P17
I've had my new ThinkPad P17 for a couple of weeks now and it is the fastest computer I have ever owned. Much more powerful than I need, but I bought knowing it would last me for 7-8 years. I bought Lenovo based on its reputation for durability and longevity. I'm not usually a fan of touchpads, but this one is easy to use so I leave my mouse at home when I travel and have no complaints.

Excellent machine
Excellent machine of high build quality. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of the machine. This is the first PC that I have owned after many years of owning Mac computers. The P17 Thinkpad offers a high performance option for developers that out classes the Macbook Pro in performance and upgradability. I'm loving the super soft keyboard, excellent screen, 128GB of ECC RAM, and performance.

Have purchased thousands - why now
I have personally participated in the purchase 1000's of Lenovo laptops in the corporate world. Recently attempted to upgrade my own biz to the P17 Workstation. I have returned it. It's useless to me without a compatible docking station and although they say "it's available to order" - then say 'it'll be at least 5 months before it ships'. Really? I am running a business and this is a business workstation - wow! I can't run my biz that way and I struggle to support any other biz that thinks we can. No one could have been more loyal to the brand. And if someone or bot or someone trained to be like a bot responds, "we are sorry make sure your computer is clean..." the divorce will be final. :<()

Solid laptop for 3D
I recently purchased a ThinkPad P17 for work, as corporate policy was to choose laptops over desktops. I chose the 20SQS02400 model, with an Nvidia Quadro RTX3000. While I am a software engineer, I do a lot of 3D work with CUDA, OpenGL, SolidWorks, etc.
So far this has been a great machine. It's solid, not flimsy or fragile. The software update process was painless, and I can drive an external monitor easily. I use it as a desktop replacement, shutting down the main screen most of the time in order to drive a larger external monitor. Thunderbolt ports are very handy for driving my pro-level Universal Audio Apollo 6x audio system.
Screen is pretty nice on its own, keyboard is solid, but I use externals for both of them.

So far so good with my new Lenovo!
I love the huge screen and large keyboard. A plus is the built in 10 key. The fan is so quiet I barely know the computer is running. All programs, whether installed or when accessing via the web, are very responsive. This is a physically oversized machine, so if you're looking for something light this isn't the machine for you. It's a 'beast' but for someone like me who often works in different locations without a monitor and accessories, I'm happy to trade the weight for the large screen, keyboard, and functionality (e.g. multiple USB options, network cable port, monitor port, etc.) so I don't have to carry multiple accessories around with me.

It's heavier and bigger than I expected. Not exactly as comfortable on your lap as a P50. The extra nits will be nice for viewing the screen outside though. I haven't tested out its abilities yet with anything intensive. Maybe it's worth the extra weight.

ThinkTank!
I named her ThinkTank because that's exactly what she is! Powerful enough to run even the most taxing rendering and emulation software we use at my company, which is a first for us - most machines really struggle. She's heavy, but that's to be expected as there are really no consumer-oriented concessions: battery life, connectivity, and CPU performance are all top-notch!

Excellent State of the Art Thinkpad
Fast, solid, reliable, plenty of connections, this is a solid machine. With the latest cpu, plenty of memory and storage space, it should be a workhorse for a long time. Lenovo continues to deliver quality machines. The infrared camera for face login is a definite plus. Keyboard quality is excellent, "pointing stick" is excellent (track pad if you prefer, also excellent), and ti quickly pairs with a USB mouse if that is your preference. Lenovo does not load these with a bunch of junk programs, they are quite "clean." Good on line tech support. This would did require a battery reset which on line tech support detailed, but that immediately resolved the issue (battery was falsely reporting power issues). If you want fast, solid, up to date, and all of the conveniences we know and love from Thinkpads, this one will meet your needs.

Stays cool because it's so thick
Pros:
- Stays cool because it's so thick.
- Sturdy like a brick
- Has the higher-powered laptop processor
Cons:
- Stays cool BECAUSE it's so thick
- Sturdy like a BRICK
Seriously, this thing is designed like an early 2000's 17" laptop; it is 1.31" thick! I know it is not as expensive, but it has the same components as some of Lenovo's other 15" laptops that are only 0.74" thick. Yes, I'm talking about the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3. But this laptop has 2 more inches in diagonal width to work with anyways, doesn't need the carbon fiber top and has all the same components, even the Quadro GPU is almost on par with the X1 Extreme Gen 3 offerings. We're paying a premium already for a P-series laptop, why in this day and age is it 1.31" thick? The pictures do not do it justice on how thick it is. Luckily my client bought a different maker laptop, with similar specs, cheaper, and only 0.7" thick. Yes, the P17 is sturdy and performs well, but there is no excuse for why this is so thick. Those thinking their "toughbooks" are thick because they can be dropped, no this does not compare and if there were some other advantage than "better cooling" I could see why it was designed this way. It's not even particularly quiet.

Powerful workstation! Just be careful when updating Windows. The model Lenovo shipped me came with pre 20H2 Windows version and when it updated it immediately went to blue screen error and couldn’t recover. After almost 5 hours the only way I made it work again was with a full factory reset using Lenovo factory key reset installing a new version of Windows.

Actual case is problematic for several reasons.
The computer itself seems okay, but I detest the case. It has a very sharp edge that feels separated, and my fingers find it while I am using the mousepad. And the case just feels cheap because of this. I also really detest that the power cord is in the very back rather than on one of the sides. When I hook it up to sit at my desk, it's a pain because it's difficult to see and it also sticks out from the shelf due to this poor design.

Best Shelf Mob Option for Landscape Architecture
I like my new P17 laptop a lot. I've had it about 3 weeks. I am in graduate school in landscape architecture and needed a laptop that could handle 3D rendering well. I did a lot of research and looked hard at Dell's Alienware Area 51m R2 with the max configurations. I liked that I could get it preloaded with 64GB of 2933MHZ DDR memory, the newest I9 CPU and the new 2080 GPU. But then, I decided to wait a day. I did some more research and found out a lot of the crashes other students complain about with their Dells are because it the i series processors don't support error correcting (ECC memory. Only the Xeon series of processors do that. Then I started searching and found that the P17 is by far the best option available now with a Xeon that supports ECC memory. The only thing I don't like is that they only had prebuilt models in stock with 32GB of ECC memory and the 6 core Xeon® W-10855M. I would have liked one with 64GB and the newer 8 core version of the Xeon® W-10855M. But to get one custom built I would have had to give up discounts and possibly wait a couple of months.

Big, Warm, and Heavy
I knew this was going to be beefy, but golly... it's hard to picture what a boat this thing is until you're holding it (or... trying to anyway). This baby has all the right ports, in (almost) all the right places. (USB-C on the sides would be nice).
I was a bit shocked when I saw what it takes to upgrade ram/disk. Rather than having to take the whole case apart, there's a single-screw access panel--one panel for all four upgrade slots. The layout for the touchpad/numpad/keyboard/speakers/etc. is quite nice--except for that darned lenovo Fn vs. Ctrl thing.
The weight doesn't bother me too much, but the somewhat sharp edge kinda does. I found battery life to be rather poor, but not /much/ worse than other 17" laptops. There's a lot of "extra chassis", which is probably where the extra weight comes from. I kind of suspect some of that is do build a stronger device, some for cooling, and ... well, it's a thinkpad.

I was a little skeptic to spend this much on a laptop never owning a Lenovo but its far exceeded my expectations and has been a great and far superior replacement for my dell not only in durability but performance too. I use it in the shop for CAD work and the over all build of it and it’s speed was worth every penny

Everything I Needed and More
As an engineering student I needed a lot of computing power in tandem with a high resolution monitor and the ThinkPad P17 fulfills these requirements beautifully. It runs programs such as AutoCad and ArcGis Pro much faster and cleaner than my old machine. Highly recommended for anyone needing to run big programs efficiently. The 17 inch screen with it's high quality graphics card allow complex images to be rendered in crystal clear detail. Graphic design and gamers would not be disappointed by the display.

Can IBM make a mission critical laptop that works?
I own UniTesT™ test engineering & consulting to learn this beautifully designed unit exceeds temperature parameters, and already fried one motherboard's HDD throughput rate, with a replacement that does the same, and in addition, the fans no longer roar to cool the 210° F it sustains at will in ultra-performance mode.

great workstation
Bought this on black Friday. I like it. Battery life - outstanding. Speed - sufficient. Great workstation and desktop replacement. But there are some tiny drawbacks. For example, I am used to blind typing. But the keys on the keyboard are arranged a little differently than on traditional desktop keyboards. The corners have buttons that I use infrequently or not at all - Fn lower left corner, Sleep and backspace - upper right corner. More than once I have pressed sleep and put my laptop to sleep or pressed Fn + C in hopes of Ctrl + C. I also hoped the case wouldn’t be plastic. But he seems to be reliable.

Good with Maya and easy to upgrade
I'm very happy with this laptop; it handles my smaller Maya 2018 files reasonably well. It can chug a bit when dealing with large 3D scans, but I purchased this with the intent of upgrading my ram - a huge plus is that it is very easy to add ram and an additional drive without entirely dissembling the bottom portion.

Great machine, but hold out for sleeker generation
The guts of this machine are great. The hardware I find a little clunky. The mouse buttons above the trackpad vs below were weird to get used to. The trackpad clicking itself is funky at times (e.g. right clicks when I mean to left click). It's not a real detriment to performance, it's just annoying. So overall it's a great machine. But I suspect the newer gens of these laptops are superior.

Architectural renderings
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME ! Love it ! I've had Lenovo for years - my old Thinkpad was seeing it's last days after 8 years !!! OMG - can't believe I had the other one so long! But my NEW THINKPAD :) has all the bells and whistles - and a docking station so I can plug in multiple printers etc - and visually, the print is crisper, the speed is FASSSSSSST and what an easy transition from all the architectural data on my old laptop to this one. I use my laptop to take to clients - so I really needed something that would have the ram, storage, speed as a desktop but the mobility to take to clients. I also needed super-graphics card - and my this new laptop has multiple cores plus the added boost when rendering. AND THE SCREEN SIZE ! Yes! a larger screen - so that I can actually do work on this one at a client's house without squinting ! BATTERY LIFE - awesome too - even while playing movies !

Perfect for Me
This P17 line comes in several models and configurations. Unlike the "T" line, the "P" computers are built with better components and are upgradable. I advise prospective buyers to study the configuration that is right for their needs against their budget. I edit 4k videos with a lot of added effects in After Effects. My previous laptop was a good i7, but it was freezing during tasks and taking a lot of time to render effects. I got the P17 with UHD monitor, i9 10855 processor, 32M memory, SSD Hard Drive, and Quadro video card. A post-Christmas sale helped it to fit into the budget. Everything is now perfect for my needs and boy, it is fast! It opens heavy software such as Premiere and Photoshop in a heartbit.

Regression to the P72
Looking for the next replacement of my current P72 I obviously had a look at the P17. But I'm really disappointed by it.
The P17 can handle only two "drives". My P72 has the two NVMe maxed out and still place for a SATA drive for not so often used data, backups or a dual boot configuration.
Come on, it's a 17" beast, it could easily have place for 4 NVMe cards as they are so tiny.
Also the screen of my P72 supports 10 bit, so it seems that the new 4k display is a step backwards.
I really hope that the next version of the P17 will be better here or I must look for a different brand for my next mobile workstation as it won't take too long till I need a replacement.
Oh, and Lenovo is still putting only the expensive Quadro cards into the system. A ordinary GeForce would be totally fine for me and would give me far more bang for my buck.

continuing the great product line
I started using Thinkpads in mid 90ies. Protected by titanium frame - it was the only product on the market that could be dropped onto granite airport floor and still run. Since then - all my laptops are from the "portable workstation" line. It combines amazing physical resilience with robustness and flexibility. Everything "just works" - never a problem with a stray driver or a peripheral, never a failing patch, never and unexpected crash. I have probably seen a bluescreen maybe a dozen times in all these years, usually when the machine is nearing the end of its life (some of these Thinkpads served by 10+ years, I still have circa 7 of them old, but humming , serving as wireless print servers or tvboxes around the house.
This brand new P17 which now takes the place of my primary development machine continues the great tradition.

Ultra Powerful, Not Ultra Portable.
It's big, it's heavy, and it's perfect for heavy processing. I originally bought this computer for a GIS course and it performs flawlessly. No hesitations and it doesn't get bogged down when using multiple windows and tabs. I was pleasantly surprised by the battery life for a laptop of this size: I've gotten 7+ hours of light use without needing to plug it in. It's generally pretty quiet, although during updates and heavy work the fans are substantially louder. It does weigh quite a lot, and finding a carrying case that it will fit in is not easy. The power brick is big and heavy, but it fully charges the laptop in less than 2 hours. There is no auto brightness setting for the screen, which is slightly disappointing but not a deal breaker. Likewise, the keyboard back light settings are off, low, and high, without a timeout option. Overall I highly recommend this laptop for anyone wanting a computer that can run complex programs while still being portable enough to move from a home office to the workplace.

A very strong performer; runs Oracle's P6 and Navisworks effortlessly. Cooling is good and has the best screen of any Lenovo I have owned. It is nice and heavy - as it should be - with proper fan ducts and all the ports you will ever need. Only minor criticism would be that compared to the rest of this robust and well-built laptop the keyboard and especially the trackpad don't feel as solid and beefy.

Linux support its good but need to get some impro.
I'm a cloud engineer and a native linux user so I bought this laptop because it says that had red hat Certified support, I suspected that it should work properly with fedora too but was not exactly the case (the computer does not come back if it goes to sleep while you are working and sometimed just freeze and the computer does not recognize new connected monitors, it does if they are already connected when you turn on the laptop . I went to the support page and it says that Lenovo have support for Ubuntu too so I installed it but was the same case with recognizing the monitors and sometimed with the sleep. The performance of the computer is really something amazing, the quality of the build is very good.

expensive laptop
I had some issues with it first arrived (power cable). A couple of days later there were issues with the updates. So far no more issues.
I love it. However, this is no cheap laptop. I paid 2800, so why does it look so cheap. The top lid has no design and leaves your fingerprints all over it. Toshiba and Hp have very nice laptop covers.

Great quality and solid construction along with a fantastic factory-calibrated screen. This P17 is replacing a Dell Precision 17" laptop and is much quieter and more solidly built. The Fn and Ctrl keys being reversed is hard to get used to, but there is an option to switch those functions.

A True Powerhouse Workstation To Go
Mine is not a baseline P17 - I loaded it up with the i9-10980HK running at 2.4 to 5.3 GHz, 64 GB RAM, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX-3000, and two 2 TB SSDs with OPAL encryption. With the fingerprint reader for login it's all of maybe 5 seconds from power-on to desktop! I wanted a true mobile workstation and I think I have it. With a battery that they claim will give up to 14 hours of service, being out in the boonies for a workday should be no problem.
But this is not a system you want to be lugging around trying to make airline connections - but I knew that going in and intentionally chose the 17" model over a 15" for a more usable screen when I'm not in a place with a larger external monitor available. Also, if you buy a case to carry it in, choose carefully because this is a 17.3" unit and some cases made for 17" laptops are .3-inches too small to get the zippers over the corners! It runs warm, but not hot - checking temperatures on all 8 cores I generally see temperatures right at 40C (max operating temperature is 100C).
Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely but I'd give them a heads-up that to get one that performs like this one does, be prepared to break out the big checkbook or heavy-duty credit card. Thankfully, Lenovo's almost continuous in-house discount codes ease the pain considerably, and if you are military (active duty or not) there's an extra 10% discount available at checkout, be sure and look for it and jump through the few hoops required to verify your status.
Back to performance for a bit and I'll let you start customizing your own! Using the latest version of AIDA64 it benchmarks at #8 for the CPU Queen test with the 7 above it all having more than 8 cores and all were obviously custom built systems on Gigabyte or SuperMicro motherboards. For the CPU PhotoWorxx test it was #9 with the majority above it being 10, 16, 20 or even 32 core CPUs and again on non-OEM boards. Same story with the rest of the series of tests - placed in the top 10 in all of them with most results at #7 mark against 10, 20 or 32 CPU driven systems and I'm betting all were in tower cases, not a laptop!

Exceptional Performance
This workstation was purchased for A. I. research and for software engineering. To maximize computing and graphical power, the configuration purchased consists of a Xeon W-10885M processor, 128 GB Ram, 4 TB of storage, and a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 graphics card. The processing power of this machine is exceptional and the displays are extremely vivid. Initially, I was disappointed in the unplugged, on lap functionality of this machine due to it becoming extremely hot despite the cool on laptop setting. After reading other P17 reviews and discovering that the transition to the unplugged state needs a restart for the machine to run in the cooler, laptop mode, I added the extra step of restarting the machine after unplugging it for on lap use. The restart should not be needed for the transition to an unplugged state but does resolve the heat issue.

Worthy workhorse workstation replacement
I Purchased the P17 (i9-10885H processor, UHD, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD as a replacement for my aging W540 (3K display) which has been running almost continuously for 6 years. I do mostly code development for embedded systems and some web development with graphics manipulation. I like having high resolution as it gives me maximum desktop space when on the road without having to rely on external monitors.
With this purchase I wanted to avoid problems experienced with the W540 while retaining the track point. The W540 has a weird keyboard layout that forces you off center and the integrated touch pad/mouse buttons never worked right. It also runs very hot all the time and slows down significantly when it is really cooking.
So far ( a week or so) the P17 has been a marked improvement in almost every way. It does not run hot although I have not really stressed it yet. The keyboard/track point/mouse buttons are excellent, the power management, sleep/hibernate startup times, fingerprint reader, and networking are all very responsive.
It is a heavy beast but my W540 was heavy as well so it is really no different if you are used to that kind of thing. I expect it to be a computing engine with full workstation ability so I am not put off by the size or weight. Given the 17" form factor I don't expect to be using it on airplanes unless I have the luxury of biz class but it is manageable and getting to the destination with a full on workstation in hand is very powerful.
The display at max resolution is gives you a great desktop to spread out documents and code. However, given the fine point size, you may need to dig out your reading glasses.
Screen contrast/intensity is even and bright but I'm not doing fine color rendering so I can't comment on the accuracy.
Computing performance seems pretty good although at this point I have not stressed the machine in any significant way. Most of the work has involved migrating and installing development tools of various sorts. The SSD disk is obviously a great improvement over prior SATA drives.
This is my 4th Thinkpad starting with the original IBM manufactured models and all have all have given me great productive lifetimes. In the few cases I've had repair issues, the service was quick and responsive. I'm looking forward to using this tool for the next 5-7 years.

Great laptop but minor grievances
Pros:
- ThinkPad durability. It isn't flimsy.
- Nice wide-angle, anti-glare 17" screen with true blacks and vibrant colors.
- Runs Linux Mint. Disabling secure boot allows for proper installation of drivers.
- Nice Bios GUI.
- Dedicated Fn keys without needing the Fn key.
- LED indicators for caps lock, num lock, speaker mute, mic mute.
- Nice response from keyboard.
Cons:
- Fan blows heat from the T2000 on the right side on your mouse hand. It should blow out the back.
- I was able to swap the left Ctrl and Fn keys with bios, but there is another less obvious but frustrating annoyance: I am always hitting the page up and page down keys by accident when using the cursor keys to edit text.
- They need to redesign the keyboard to be more like a full-sized professional keyboard. They got 2 more inches to design it right.
- It doesn't hide fingerprints well, though the laptop cleaner tends to clean it up fast.

A Lot to Love
I wanted the most powerful laptop I could get, and I almost got it. Despite the persnickety gripes that follow, I am very happy with the computer. I like ThinkPads because of the "joystick" mouse control in the keyboard (and ability to turn off the touch pad because it just gets in my way, and I would really love a trackball in its place but those days are long gone). I ordered this one from Lenovo's web site. The most RAM I was offered was 32Gb, but the next day I saw an ad somewhere else that said this model could be configured with 64Gb. I think I will be OK, but it was a disappointment to think I might have to upgrade later. I will be editing 50MB PhotoShop & LightRoom files, and every day I update Excel files that have 15,000 lines (and growing) of complex formulas that summarize to half a dozen different sheets to provide customized reports for my business. We will see. One thing about the keyboard I don't love is the layout for cursor movement keys. I am getting used to PgUp & PgDn and the arrow keys, but Home, End, Insert and Delete are in an awkward location. My prior ThinkPad was much easier (and faster) to use without having to look at the keyboard. To compensate for that, there is a lot of real estate due to the wide screen, so now I get a numeric keypad. I love getting that back and I missed it on my last three or four laptops. I think I will figure out how to make the numeric keyboard do double duty for cursor control (like I used to for the IBM PC-AT keyboard). If I master that, I will be able to work blisteringly fast for the first time in several years and will be extatically happy. The 1Tb SSD hard drive and dual iCore 9 processors are fast enough that I am not tempted to go out for coffee waiting for files to open up or recalculate. Overall, as I get used to this computer, am a really happy camper.

Smart purchase!
I recently purchased the ThinkPad P17 to replace my laptop and am extremely happy with my purchase. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for and this is most certainly the case with computers. It is a very well made and sturdy machine! No flimsy cheap plastic exterior like some brands. The specs say it is 5.5 lbs but feels much heavier to me as it is so solid. It was easy to setup and install various software and wi-fi set up with router. Best of all there was a fantastic sale going on and I was very glad I took advantage of it. The only thing I am still trying to resolve is the brightness of the monitor. Even with the brightness at the highest level, the screen still seems very dark when I stream video that is taking place at night or in a darker room. I checked different power and display settings but still not sure how to fix it. It is a minor issue so I didn't dock stars off for that. Overall , very please with my purchase and would highly recommend it to others.

A Lovable Giant Monster
I was in the market for laptop with a 17" screen and a 4K resolution, the options are fairly narrow in this category and amazingly, the P17 was one of the most affordable. I needed something I could develop and design from without requiring a second screen, and this heartily delivers, it even out-performs my desktop workstation. The port selection, TWO(!! NVMe storage bays and FOUR(!!!!) memory module bays, is unmatched by any laptop on the market, and gives me confidence that this laptop will be useful for a decade. Yes it weighs a lot, but not so much that it's uncomfortable in a lap. This wouldn't be a good commuter laptop, but if you only travel occasionally like I do, and want a powerful workstation to carry along, this is ideal. My only nitpick is the screen bezel, it's nearly an inch on each side. I would have loved to have a slimmer bezel and an 18 or 19" screen, however, considering the military-grade durability tests this machine passes, I'm certain the bezels are part of the device's defenses, and it can be forgiven.

Thinkpad P17 Mobile Workstation The Way To Go
The mobile workstation is the way to go for an Application Developer that needs a professional level machine but also wants a casual experience for web browsing,
video, audio feeds and more. With at least an I7 processor you can have multiple
apps open, web pages and happily check the low usage on CPU and memory.

GETS A LOT RIGHT, SOME MOSTLY RIGHT, & SOME WRONG
It's "Almost" a 5 star, but what is with the FN placement??? It's so frustrating! That's where Ctrl should be. This button placement issue has been the cause of many pre-mature email sends! Else, I love the mic mute button, and overall performance. The slide for the cam is also a good idea, but needs to be available for the inferred as well, and needs to be easier to use (I have to grab a pen or such to use the current mechanism).

ThinkPad P17
Keep in mind Lenovo, with good reason, calls this a Mobile Workstation, not a laptop. It is heavy as far as laptops go but this is a beast. With 32 GB RAM it is lightning fast and the keyboard, as well as the whole unit, is solidly built. Feel free to pound away like you're on an old fashioned manual typewriter. This is the laptop General Schwarzkopf would use if he was still around. I got it because I have a need for speed, large screen, and the battery life, while not spectacular, is pretty darn good. It filled all my requirements.

I Do Not Recommend - Defective Laptop
I was super excited to get this laptop, but it arrived with an issue of white and multicolored lines and bars that flash across the screen. The mouse is jumpy and stutters, and the bottom corner of the plastic was not cut properly and it cuts into my arm and pinches. It is very painful.
I tried contacting customer service and tech support, but no one ever seemed to know what they were doing, they just kept transferring me everywhere. No one knew what was causing this or even could provide any kind of quality support.
I asked for a refund, and that has been the biggest hassle. I received it on the 1st of the month, requested help on the 12th, again on the 22nd, and requested the refund. I was told initially that this would be fine as I was within 30 days. Then I received an email that I am not within 30 days and special approval would be needed. Turns out, the 30 days is not from when I received it - it is from the day they ship it. It took a little over a week to get to me, so Lenovo's 30 day return policy is actually more like a 20 day policy. This is not fair, it is not right. I should have 30 days from the day I receive it, not the day it is shipped. Also, I have been requesting help since I received it - and requested the return on the 28th. Well within a 30 day time frame, but Lenovo customer support and return is such a huge hassle when it really shouldn't be.
Horrible quality of a laptop, horrible customer service. I do not recommend.
Here is a positive though - I love the keyboard on the machine. LOVE the clicky buttons and love that it is not sunken into the unit. Just wish the laptop worked like it should. Faulty graphics card or cable or something. It's a shame.

Saw this laptop was on sale for nearly 50% off and I had been looking for one for a while and couldnt pass this up! Needed a mobile workstation for my workshop and picked up this one specificially for running Autodesk Fusion360, live streaming, and using Adobe Creative Cloud, It handles everything amazing, premier pro bogs down when you get into some dense timelines but you would need a 20k$ workstatiion for that and my videos arent nearly that complex or layered so it handles everything I need great!

A well built machine like my previous ThinkPad P71
The P17 is well built and sturdy like all the previous ThinkPads that I've had. It's runs really smooth and performs well. One big difference I noticed from my previous ThinkPad is that the fan doesn't stay on consistently, It will only turn on occasionally in bursts. I think this is probably because of the cooling enhancements that they had designed for this model. There are subs at the bottom that gives 1/8 inch space between the laptop and the table. So that probably helped. My main gripe with this model is that laptop is not as expandable as previous models. It only has 2 slots for SSD, which is 1 less NVME 2and 1 less SATA slot from the previous model. Another change that bothered me a little is the removal of the click buttons below the touch pad. I used them a lot with my previous laptop and this change made it a little awkward to use for me. Overall great product. Battery life is amazing. I c1an easily get 4 - 5 hours of use.

Thinkpad P17 Workstation Review
Very pleased with the P17 Workstation. It has proved to be a solid replacement from my desktop. The screen is large enough to be able to use for presentations on the go. The 10th generation i7 processor is impressive and does a great job handling mathematical models. It boots up very quickly and is ready to use. When I ordered the computer I had no idea I would use it for VR applications. Had I know I would have upgraded the video card further. That said, the Quadro T2000 card does an excellent job of running the Oculus Rift S VR goggles despite not meeting the new Oculus minimum standards. Despite not having a display port, the Rift S will run through the USB C Thunderbolt port using an adapter. It would be nice if it had a display port along with the Thunder bolt ports. This unit is quiet even when the fan is on full, and it never gets very hot compared to other laptops I have had. Battery life is good for a system of this size depending on how hard you run it. Overall, this is a great computer.

Not cheap but worth every penny!
I have been an HP user for many years but recently had so many issues with my HP Envy. I purchased it less than three years ago and had sent it back for repairs so many times that I was sent a new laptop (same make/model. Even that one had such frustrating issues. And I realized that Black Friday and Cyber Monday was not at all about giving consumers a deal, but rather about moving inventory that would otherwise not sell to savvy customers and that if I wanted something reliable today, tomorrow, and years down the road, I would need to be willing to pay for it.
I did some online searching and landed on Lenovo as my ideal laptop (and remembered how great my experience was when I used them at a major U.S. financial firm for many years). I loaded the laptop with the best features. It cost me a bunch but I can honestly say that it is worth every penny. From restart to logged in in less than one minute? Crazy, but true! I could go on and on...this is a great machine and I expect to be using it for many years.

Best value/reliability for a high-end workstation
I've been using this machine for just over a week now and it's glorious. Went with the i9 and 32g of ram with a mirrored RAID and UHD display. Using this for web development so I went with the lowest graphics card (1000), but it still runs 3 screens beautifully at max res/refresh rates with no issue. At any given time I have Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Outlook, Slack, Filezilla, 15 browser tabs, several instances of gulp & some other odds and ends running. Fan spins up here and there, but otherwise it runs all of the above without taxing the cooling system. I did a lot of research before this purchase and Lenovo really has the best machines on the market right now. Extremely happy with this unit. Only downside is the CTRL/FN keys are swapped on the left side of the keyboard, but it's an easy fix in the bios to switch them so CTRL is in the bottom left corner. The flashing red light on sleep is a nice touch for a machine that performs like a Cyberdyne T-1000.

So far so good. A few minor details
The computer is powerful but still takes quite a while to boot even with just basic OS on it. The hinges aren't strong enough to support a SideTrak, which is disappointing because so many other laptops can do that fine, with some even supporting two. I don't love the finish on the computer that seems to just get gross with oily fingerprints all the time. Most of all, I really wish that the power plug was better designed. How is it that we still aren't using magnetic power ports on laptops other than Mac yet? I just know that this is going to get broken and having it stick out the back makes it more difficult to set down or use on a lap.

As an animation student and aspiring artist...
As an animation student and aspiring artist, this laptop has been absolutely perfect for what I need. With all of the day to day programs that I need to run, I was looking for something that could handle without having to work too hard and the ThinkPad more than delivers. This purchase was actually made to replace a laptop that I had bought only a year before that would constantly thermal throttle and sometimes even shut down when I tried to run nearly any of my programs (a problem that I can honestly say I didn’t anticipate from the brand I purchased from or the cost. Needless to say, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, especially during the pandemic where everything is expected to be completed from home. It’s really comforting to know that I have a reliable, portable unit that can do everything that I need it to. On top of all of that the display is beautiful and, as an artist especially, the 17” display is a really incredible asset for productivity.

Great Workhorse/Gaming Rig
I purchased this machine to replace an aging Alienware M17R4. I would have to say it definitely covers what I need it for, and with a battery that lasts 3-4x longer than any Alienware to date.
When thinking of which product to purchase I had to find something that could run my design software well as well as have good battery performance. This ticked all boxes needed plus some. Now if I were purchasing for gamin alone I would move down the Legion line but for business and work related needs this is the desktop replacement you have been wanting.
Battery Performance on heavy workload: 3-4 hours, streaming: 11+ hours.
Overall Performance on main power: The system usage nominal and kept cool running SoftPlan/2020/AutoCAD/SketchUpPro all at once on the Lenovo TB dock with 3 monitors and music in the background. Granted you should never have it all running at once, but hey this is a Lenovo... it can handle it.
As for games: I was able to throw every game I own at it with no issues whatsoever. This includes MSFS2020 in the list...though it ran best on mid-tier with the 3 monitors, maxed on fewer. This is a limitation of the dock and not the laptop I feel though.

Workhorse
I got this laptop for work and I'm using it mostly for coding and CAD designs. The Intel Xeon processor, 6 cores allows for very fast computational rendering time. This is not your light-weight, slim profile type laptop. This is a bigger and heavier (7lbs) workhorse and the 17" screen is great.

Great, but heavy.
The keyboard keys are exceptionally nice. The overall performance is great. The 17" computer is a little bulky, but knew this coming into purchasing. The internal camera continues to take over my usb camera, which is likely a user issue and not a computer issue. Overall, great purchase and only negative is the bulky-weight when traveling.

Returning the unit
I've been buying TP/Lenovo for over 25 years. I bought this to replace a P70 that was getting a little old. Sadly, this unit has some fatal flaws that make it entirely unreliable and I'm going to return it. I had a problem with it giving me BSOD errors as soon as I started to add software to. Undaunted, I reinstalled windows and fresh installed it. However, something is seriously wrong with the drivers or BIOS of the machine. After just a little bit of usage, randomly - the CPU will get locked at .79GHZ frequency. No software adjustments like power settings etc will change that. Sometimes, even a reboot won't fix it. If I unplug the power cord, wait a few seconds and plug it back in though - then it will work again. Secondly, the NVIDIA RTX 4000 would lock its memory clock at 805 MHZ under mild load. A soon as the card started to heat up (as in - when it got to 66C - which is barely warm - its supposed to be able to get into the 90s) the memory clock would get set to 805 MHZ and no software settings / cooling off would change it. This took rebooting the video card or a shutdown / reset to get it to work.
The machine is very powerful when it was working - very fast, graphics were beautiful - great design and very solidly built. It was so frustrating to have the machine not work. Ultimately, I ended up fresh installing windows over 5 times trying to get the machine to stay working reliably. I'm going to return this machine and I'm extremely disappointed.

VERY SLOW
Operating/processing VERY SLOW.
Ran included diagnostics three (3) times. None of them completed, therefore no codes to report. All stopping was in various parts of memory test (none the same).
Over time the speed of operations has mysteriously improved somewhat.
Support is very hard to use. (I have bee unable to use it)
I am nearing the point of distrust in the future operation of the unit.
It is very close to the expiration of the 30 day limit for returns
Thanks,
