It has the options for adding a docking station and many other accessories. I have the docking station, a couple large monitors, keyboard and mouse. Many privacy and security additions too which are very user easy to use. I also like the gentle feel of the keyboard strike. Great value.

I like how I can plug in one USB-C wire to my T495s and instantly get access to 3 monitors (at 1920x1080, Network and power/charging to my laptop plus my external keyboard and mouse. That simplicity is really nice. Also since it's not your traditional dock I can keep it under my desk.

I have used 3 different versions of their docks over the past 6 years with computer upgrades and this is the first Levono dock that has had that issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for features that work, give up fixing others The dock is more a USB extension, and promises to provide HDMI, DP output, Ethernet connectivity as well as extra USB peripherals. To this day, i've not been able to have a reliable Ethernet connection from the Dock. Initially it was blamed on my Linux OS, but even on Windows with all the firmware updated and drivers checked, ethernet simply is flaky. I now resorted to a USB dongle for ethernet, which entirely defeats the purpose for which I bought it. Display randomly goes off for a few seconds, but I observe this only when watching some videos, but for regular work, it does not seem to occur. I use two DELL 24" on DP, and I know that these monitors are in perfect shape. So the "dock" is now limited to serving the two monitors and my Wireless mouse receiver, but ethernet is unusable. I would not recommend if there are alternates available. My work only provided this option to me.

It supplies power to the laptop, however on my MacBook it will only recognize one monitor at a time. Have reached out to Lenovo to see if there is a compatibility issue but have not received a response as of yet.

Unfortunately the dock that I normally use at work doesn't have HDMI connections. I bought this dock specifically so that I could connect everything - monitors, printer, keyboard, mouse - to my laptop without running out of ports. I asked a Lenovo rep for a recommendation and this is the item recommended. I gave it 2 stars because I wanted to interface two HDMI monitors to the dock and it only has 1 HDMI port.

I have tried every configuration and various connection cords all with hit-or-miss success. All the correct firmware and drivers are installed and still only works appropriately about 10% of the time. Mouse and keyboard works fine through the dock, but if you're looking to add monitors. Good luck. For the price I was expecting a bit more quality not a tremendous headache.

It is supposed to be compatible with my P53 ThinkPad but it loses ethernet and external USB drive connections randomly and doesn’t provide enough power to charge the laptop so basically it’s a really expensive usb hub that’s not even reliable.

I work in accounting and need computer screens to be efficient. When the docking station arrived, I was sure that I would need to call tech support to get it hooked up, but to my surprise it was plug and play. I spend a lot of time bouncing around from the office to remote sites. Having only one cable I need to plug into when I'm at the office is amazing. Not to mention the 3 additional displays I can use with this dock.

I am using two monitors, wireless mouse and webcam. I mean it is everything its meant to be, but works better than expected with other laptops. If you have a Dell this will also work if the Dell supports docking station.

Those issues include limited/no connectivity with external displays, charging, and durability. It simply does not work with the Thinkpad X1. Lenovo tech support sent me a replacement dock, updated drivers, reinstalled windows, replaced my motherboard, and replaced my X1 6th gen with a 7th gen. None of these attempts were successful. I would highly recommend against buying this docking station.

Incredibly easy for my users to move between home and office and have everything they need in the office connected so quickly and painlessly.

It worked immediately, all functions operate perfectly, the power on function is extremely useful, and it has plenty of ports for everything you could hope to plug in. The 85w is a little weak and my X1 still dies slowly but is definitely prolongs the life of a charge.

I'm using it with a Lenovo T490 and in this case it will only drive a pair of 1920x1080 external displays. Since one of mine is 2560x1440 I had to move one of the two displays from the dock to the native HDMI on the laptop body. So in my case the doc can only drive one external display, which isn't much for $200 but at least it also handles my ethernet and USB keyboard.

I had issues with the dock on my t490s powering my laptop and also running 3 individual monitors. This docking station does charge my laptop and also uses the same port to power the monitors and successfully run my monitor array. Its definitely work the money and works well with all of my devices.

I am actually pretty unhappy with Lenovo for changing docks every couple years and making all of the previous expensive dock purchases obsolete. Hopefully, with this being USB-C, it will continue to be usable for future models. I also tried it on my HP Elitebook USB-C and it seems to work well there too.

Love my new Lenova docking station, my husband and I both have have thinkpads and all we have to do is bring them into our home office where we have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and the docking station and plug and it's like having a desktop computer, just me sure to set you thinkpad setting to stay on when you shut the lid that way you don't have to have it open, I set it to only stay on when it's plugged in.

So far it has worked great and helped facilitate connectivity and power requirements. There are still a lot of cables to manage on the backside of it but I am hoping the next development of these docs would start to look at overall cable reduction to and from products and peripherals. Overall a must have for your laptop since laptops have fewer ports nowadays. The design is compact, lightweight, and well built.

I am also unable to use this dock with my work issued hp elitebook as I cannot install unsupported drivers on it. I even updated the firmware on the dock but still not recognized on the PC without installing drivers.

Great fit for my project of using two monitors with my Yogo C940 and work from home. I was able connect all my USB peripherals, wired network connection. BUT I was disappointed and saddened to return it. It’s definitely NOT for monitors. Every time the computer sleeps, it doesn’t detect the monitors at wake. You have to unplugged the hub and plug it back in. Either you find your docked computer, open the lid and properly eject other devices or simply not care and just unplug it. And now might have to wait for connect to re-establish ..... it’s annoying. j5 create is doing the job greatly for me now.

A quick internet search for "lenovo dock gen 2 firmware" will get you to the firmware update. After that, all of the little issues they might have (display not working) typically go away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like the 1st Gen - Constantly Recurring Ethernet & Display Failures Just as on the First Generation of this product, we are seeing intermittent failures of both Ethernet and DisplayPort connections on these Lenovo USB-C docks. We never had any issues with the docks that used the bottom-of-the laptop connector/bus; nothing like this was a problem with Thinkpads for the decades that they had the bus on the base of them for docking. The problems encountered usually happen more than one time a work-week per PC, and to a good portion of our users with these devices (at least 1 in 5, more like 1 in 4 on a bad week) We have bundled these (and the 1st Gen.) with the user's latest Lenovo Thinkpad's (T480's and T490's ...the T470s on the old docks worked wonderfully). Updating drivers and firmware does not resolve the issue. Nor does updating the OS. For those looking for "fixes": The Ethernet will say "Cable Unplugged" in Windows suddenly - and no amount of fiddling with software settings or the Ethernet cables will resolve the issue - if you are lucky removing the power from the dock and reconnecting it will fix the issue maybe half the time. With the DisplayPorts, one of the displays will stop working - usually windows will see it as still connected and receiving signal though. The fix for this issue usually involves disconnecting the dongle from the DispalyPort and then reconnecting it 15 seconds later. This again only works about 50% of the time. For the times when the above fixes do not work, rebooting the laptop with the dock disconnected is required. Then to resolve you reconnect the dock, with everything connected, and your Ethernet and/or Displays should begin to work again. I would estimate this affects 15-20% of the laptops with these devices, and is a source of major inconvenience. Fortunately most our laptops are still T470's or older, which can use the bottom- connector of those laptops to connect docks that act as actual port-replicators, instead of USB hubs. The only permanent solution I can see here is, buying the high-priced version of the Lenovo docks that connects both to the USB-C port, and to the other port (proprietary?) positioned immediately next to the USB-C in the recessed slot on the left of our laptops; these two ports act in conjunction as one single super-port, so to speak (basically it acts like the bus Thinkpad's had on the bottom of the laptop until about the past year and half - it was a VERY reliable way of docking). When this connection is used with the nearly $300 premium dock, the ports are all actual replications of existing hardware on the system - no new hardware shows up (except for an additional USB hub for more USB ports) - and the replicated ports that show up just as the existing connections in "network connections" and "device manager" function perfectly as did the old dock that connected via the bottom of the T400-T470 series Thinkpad laptops.

No complicated setup. Small size makes it easy to place out of the way and still connect all cables. But a little more spacing would make it easier for my fumble fingers! :-) Go for it!

Love the HDMI possibility and the dock is compatibility with other non-Lenovo laptops. Have not been able to test it with 4K dual screens but probably will never deploy this setup in corporate environment.

Charges laptop, handles multiple monitors, adds USB. When your accessory is 20% of the cost of a really nice laptop it makes me feel a little dirty. Can't stress enough it works as advertised though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did not work with Thinkpad P-70 This had major issues. I bought this to use with my Lenovo Thinkpad P-70 laptop. The Thinkpad P-70 would freeze at boot time whenever this was plugged in. My P-70 is rock solid and I keep it updated with the latest Windows updates, security software updates and Lenovo software updates without fail and it has never given any problem in any way. This was possibly the first time I saw an issue working on it and that was not its fault. I tried installing the latest firmware and drivers from the official Lenovo website but that did not solve the problem. Had to return this. Bought a Lenovo USB C hub to replace this for much cheaper and that works beautifully. Not sure why this did not work with Thinkpad P-70. I had tried this with another laptop (Dell) and this had worked with it - strange! Very disappointed as I had paid the premium price seeing the port options of this and hoping for first class reliability and compatibility with my Lenovo Thinkpad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn't work I wanted to like this because it was so highly rated, and I've bought Lenovo products in the past with no issues. However, I was unable to get my second monitor to work with this dock. I was running a native HDMI cable to the dock, it never registered. The USB ports worked fine, but the HDMI and displayport ports never worked. I downloaded the drivers and the firmware I don't know how many times, uninstalled and reinstalled and I kept getting an error: DP hub update timeout, please remove all devices from the dock and reboot computer to try again. I followed the steps, and got the same error. Went to Lenovo's support page and found several people with the same issue...but no solution and no word from Lenovo on what was causing the issue or how to fix it. I will be returning this and going with another dock. I'm very disappointed.

Of course, it's ideal to use it with a Lenovo laptop that is compatible with this dock- This way you can take advantage of not having to use your laptops power cable as the dock will charge/power the laptop and you'll be able to turn-on/off from the the dock's power button. One thing I wish this model / form factor would have is the ability to have 3 external monitors (excluding the laptop's screen).

That said, I am NOT a fan of the lenovo docking stations overall, as I have had nothing but trouble with them. And, I miss the days of just taking my laptop and dropping it into the docking station and viola it works without me having to find space to keep the laptop open so I can my monitor. It is not user friendly at all and there are too many cords required for efficiency and to keep clutter free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ThinkPad Dock Gen 2 I had an older docking station that I wanted to upgrade as it wasn't projecting sound into my headset anymore. So I upgraded to the Gen 2. It's a very nice station with more plug-ins than I'll need. There are 6 USB plugs and several other types as well. The only disappointment was the station no longer has a VGA plug for my extra monitor. So, I had to buy a separate adaptor for my monitor.

I original was thinking about getting a full docking station since that's what I use at work, but this is way more portable and functional in my opinion. The only thing I wish it that it had 2 HDMI ports instead of 2 Display-ports because I have 2 HDMI only monitors.

I struggled getting dual screens to work correctly on my E14 gen 2 with both Linux (Pop_os 20.10 and Windows 10.

I wonder if too much was being crammed onto the USB interface but when using the dock, the battery charge indicator is constantly yellow and it is clear the C interface cannot keep up with the power demands. Therefore, I have to plug the charger into the laptop AND have the dock power supply connected in order to use it. Also, I find the performance of other USB peripherals on the dock unacceptably slow such as wireless mouse and keyboard to the point were keyboard is unusable. So concept is great, implementation not so much. I will probably send it back or put it on Ebay while looking for a dock that actually works with my Lenovo laptop.

It allows for convienent routing of all of your laptops processes through a single usb-c to your laptop while keeping cables organized. There is nothing like showing up at you desk, plugging in a single cable, and getting right to work. Then unplugging a single cable when you leave. I am constantly on the go in a typical day and the ThinkPad Dock allows me to quickly move from my desk to wherever I am needed. This enables me to have the best of both worlds, using my laptop as a desktop with a big monitor while maintaining the portability of my laptop when I need it. Nobody has time to connect and disconnect 10 cables every time you get up from your desk. While a little pricy, the ThinkPad Dock is definitely worth every penny and it has transformed my day to day life.

Suggestions: USB 3 ports should have the standard "blue" insert to distinguish them from the USB 2 ports. Diagram could also be more specific as to which was which. Diagram could also be LARGER! I could have used 1 more HDMI port an 1 less display port. I had to buy a separate adapter.

We have random monitor flickering as well. I have switched to the Startech dual display units for the time being while Lenovo investigates.

For some reason it keeps enlarging the resolution and i cant get it to go back to normal. Besides that, its a great dock.

I am using it with a 4th generation ThinkPad X1 Yoga which I also like quite a bit. There was a bit of an issue with the monitor coming out of sleep mode, but it looks like a driver update for the dock fixed that.

This comes with two Display Ports, but it was a pain to find an adapter to connect from HDMI screen (in) to Display Port (output). In the end I got it to work and I am happy with the product. It is easy to use and no issues so far.

We have been buying these for our employees for a couple years and we have very few issues with them. They are also really nice for other laptops such as Dells, and even some Smart Phones like Samsung Galaxies. These would get a full 5 star rating if they would change a few random things about it.. - allow the front USBC port to also be the laptop connection port. - add another HDMI port to the back. Having 1 HDMI and 2 DisplayPort is nice, but too many Lenovo monitors are cheaply made without DP ports, it seems silly to only have 1 HDMI port on the dock. - lower the cost. There's no reason this should cost $200. None.

I have a both a work and personal laptop and this makes it so easy to switch back and forth throughout the day. I will note, that with my work laptop (Dell Inspiron) the charging aspect isn't entirely compatible, but I have been able to work around the "low wattage" issue. Not having to unplug and re-plug 5 or 6 cables has been a dream!

What I didn't realize is that it cannot connect to 2 external monitors with resolution of 3440x1440 and 1920x1080 directly through the dock due to limitations. The workaround I found is to buy a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect to T14 directly, while the other monitor is plugged into the dock using a DP cable.

The dock extends to two external monitors but the power button on the dock does not work to power on the system. I still have to open the laptop screen every time to turn it all on.

I used one DP cable & one HDMI cable to connect the 2 monitors. However I tried, the monitor connected to DP-cable always reverted to basic VGA resolution (1024x768). The laptop I used with this dock is 'Lenovo Thinkpad T490' and as per Lenovo's documentation, I should be able to use 2 external monitors with a USB-C dock. After struggling & spending many hours with Lenovo customer care, I returned it and bought a Thunderbolt-3 based dock which worked fine for my needs. Overall, it was very bad experience with this purchase.

When it is shut down and then booted up again, the USB drives work. This happens every time. They sent me a new one and the same thing happened. Two monitors and a ThinkPad are connected to it.

After about 90 min of use it used to lose connection to the speakers and microphone, sometimes to the external camera too. But the external monitor kept working. Updating driver and firmware did not solve the problem. I connected it to the other USB-C input of my X1 Carbon Gen 6 and it started working consistently. Not a polished product by any means. Look elsewhere.

There is one nerving issue with the Realtek NIC and Microsoft Teams. It causes a BSOD. if you go WiFi on a Teams call, you will have zero issues. You can also revert the driver to one that is a lot older but that is painful on Windows 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works with my IdeaPad 5 laptop and 2 monitors. Lenovo has conflicting information about compatibility of this dock (Model LDC-02 on their website. Initially it only worked on my Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen6 laptop but after installing the latest driver (Jan2021 V1.0.6.01201) on my (Model 15ITL05, Type B2FG) which has USB-C (3.2 Gen1/Gen2) port with DisplayPort1.2, I was able to get two (non 4k) monitors working along with keyboard & mouse and charge my battery. Display resolution is 1920x1080 on both with one monitor using HDMI cable and the other a HDMI with a display port adapter added to end of cable. The Dock does not support two physical HDMI inputs so I needed to add the DP adapter on one cable.) I did not update the firmware of the dock itself as I don't think it's wise to mess with what's working. It's possible this is just luck that I got it working. I tried using Lenovo's dock finder on the website and it came up with nada. (Lenovo needs to improve the dock finder tool as it doesn't show any compatible docks for my idea pad.) I found one old school web page that listed my model/type as compatible and then called tech support to confirm but salesperson said it would not be compatible and I needed to use the lenovo usb-c mini-dock or thunderbolt essential dock. (IdeaPad 5 doesn't have thunderbolt but that's okay since its backwards compatible). I guess time will tell if this has some sort of issue but so far so good...

Periodically, the monitor I use for with that input disconnects. I thought all along it was my monitor that was the issue. But today, I just tried two other monitors and have experienced the same problem. Plus, this particular hub doesn't charge your items, so it honestly shouldn't be called a "dock". For the money I paid for this item, you'd think it would last a little longer. Very disappointed.

I spoke with tech support and they agreed it was not powerful enough for more than one monitor. Yet in the response I received it simply said to reach out to tech support. My supervisor had the same issue and got the same feedback from our internal IT team. If you want to use this for more than one monitor, forget it.

It would get the full 5 stars had it also had room for a VGA port and slightly more room between all ports, as connecting or removing one disturbs the one next to it. Purchase was well worth it.

I have a brand new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 (20XW002BRT) and this 40AS dockstation with ONE (not three or even two!) regular FullHD display (BENQ GL2450) connected via DVI-HDMI cable, and moreover it randomly switching on/off display, sometimes it might switch it off completely, but in pretty interesting way — sometimes you get black screen, sometimes it might be filled with other random color (purple or dark-red for example), and sometimes it may give you some corrupted image affected by strong gray noise. And all of that accompanied by strong overheating of the dock. And, despite all other devices connected to the dock is still operating, the only way to fix it is to reconnect the whole dock to notebook, simple monitor reconnection wouldn't do the trick. Firmware both on notebook (N32ET68W 1.44) and dockstation (1.0.8.03231) is up to date. Rearranging USB-C cable to elimate bending as much as possible doesn't make noticeable difference. And I guess it's not worth to mention that I never had this issue while the monitor was connected to notebook directly via HDMI port on it. Also dockstation without connected monitor to it becomes less hot. The second issue is less annoying but still persists: when laptop is powered off and you have speakers connected to 3.5" jack, dockstation outputs to it high-pitched humming noise, which instantly disappers when laptop is back on-line. People are complaining about this issues for a pretty long time, but nothing changes.

My screens (normal acer monitors), go black randomly, as well as latency issues with my keyboard when attached. This dock is terrible and would not recommend to anyone. I am using it with a ThinkPad X1 Nano, and got a J4 dock from best buy for half the cost and works 10x better with no issues at all. Lenovo really messed up with this one, I wish it worked since it looks so nice and is a thinkpad product to go with my thinkpad laptop. Support is sending out another replacement and crossing my fingers this one works, but as I read other reviews many many people have screen issues with this dock.

After using several different docks on both Windows and Apple workstations/laptops, I find the ease of updating firmware and the reliability are unmatched with many other docks. Comparable docks are typically more expensive, but as I say "you get what you pay for". What we paid for this dock and the results are a true win for consumers.

It fails to deliver enough power to my laptop, so I still have to connect my laptop to power. Also the HDMI connection to my 2nd monitor works only intermittently, so I ended up unplugging from this and connecting the monitor directly to my laptop. I should have just bought a $50 USBC hub, it would have given me the same functionality this gives me for a fraction of the cost. I'd return this but I accidentally threw away all the packaging before realizing it doesn't work. Waste of money. :(

Not hard to get into, but definitely not easy either. Lenovo has reliability issues, though. We have seen a high percentage (40%) of these fail just outside of the 1yr warranty (unknown hardware issues). They run great and are reliable until they suddenly aren't.

I would have to unplug (not just power it off) and plug it back in for it to work with my Macbook. However, after installing the latest firmware on the dock, it now works great with both my T480s and my Macbook! It was hard to find other USB-C hubs with this number of ports. I've tried other cheap USB-C hubs off Amazon and they all ran super hot and stopped working within 6 months.

The docking station could not power the computer. After doing some digging this seems to be a known problem with USB-C docking stations for Lenovo. The customer service was fantastic - it was an easy process to return this docking station and purchase one that is compatible with the laptop I ordered, which I am thoroughly enjoying with the new docking station (Thunderbolt).

I actually wish it had more USB ports ... these days with webcams, ring lights, speakers, printers, scanners - it's actually not enough! Also, a little disappointing is that the HDMI doesn't work with my monitor. When I connect it directly with my lenovo laptop the HDMI works... but I got the hub so that I'd have less cords to disconnect when I have to take my laptop "to go". Still .. it works.

The mouse is jumpy, the keyboard randomly "sticks" and types any letter or the space bar and, if you aren't watching closely, you could have a big edit. I use wireless mouse and keyboards and plugged the dongle into the dock. After fighting with this problem for a while, I moved the dongles to the computer itself. Situation resolved. It does let me have my multi-monitor system up and running. I was disappointed that it didn't have the old school video cables but required me to get new monitors and cables to work as well. My third monitor would randomly shut off and flicker and be completely useless until I upgraded the monitors.

A number of docks routinely flicker their screens or randomly lose their wired Network card. Lenovo hasn't provided any updates as to how to fix, lots of posts on Lenovo's site with no responses. I'd pass if I were you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDMI port is not working, other things work well Just started using it. The HDMI port does not work. When a monitor is connected, OS display settings list it as connected via DisplayPort, and the monitor itself is blank, as if turned off, not receiving signal. Tried with two monitors. The DisplayPort port works correctly. The speaker, keyboard and mouse (USB) ports and the charging function works all right thus far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garbage Dock Everyone in my office has this dock and it is complete garbage. Even with the latest drivers for it installed, we all experience ongoing screen issues. Screens just go blank at random times before coming back up, sometimes over and over before it stays on for a bit, but only until it happens again. Not to mention, it seems the only way to get a laptop to reconnect is by opening the laptop lid and logging in there. Problematic all the way.

And I wish the computer would know where my headphones were plugged in so I didn't have to switch it on my sound settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lenovo ThinkPad Docking Station is a Winner! For years I have used both a desktop and a laptop computer for the special advantages each offered. My laptop offered me the portability when I traveled. My desktop offered me the power and expanded capability when I was at my home base. I put up with the cost of having two sets of software applications and the inconvenience of moving my email and data files back and forth between the two computers as I switched between them. As the power of laptops evolved, I decided focus on one powerful laptop computer and give up my older desktop computer. This year I purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga computer and I love it! I have owned many ThinkPad laptops in the past and they are my favorite laptop. My most recent laptop was a small Lenovo Flex computer, similar to the Lenovo Yoga. I enjoyed many of the special options of the Flex, but I missed many of the features of my favorite ThinkPad computers. The ThinkPad Yoga gave me a ThinkPad laptop with the flexibility of the Yoga laptops. An ideal combination in my opinion. Now, I needed a convenient way to attach all of my desktop devices to my new ThinkPad Yoga laptop computer. That is where the ThinkPad USB-C Docking Station plays such an important role in my move to a single computer system. The new Lenovo Yoga laptop could handle attaching each device individually, but did not have enough ports to attach all of them together. Not only that, but the bother to attach or detach so many devices each time I wanted to take my laptop on a trip or into another room would be enormous. With the docking station, I now only need to attach or detach one wire and all of my devices are connected or disconnected at once. When I take my laptop with me, my extra devices remain at my desk connected to the docking station, waiting for my return. The Lenovo ThinkPad docking station works perfectly for my needs.
