The tablet mode works nicely, and the stylus is responsive. My only complaint is this the fingerprint reader, which seems to regularly struggle to recognize me.

I never actually use this as a tablet, but it's nice to be able to bend the screen over backwards so that I can use a separate keyboard with it and put that keyboard close to the screen. All the hardware feels very solid.

It has the power and processing speed need to handle all of my tasks and the 2:1 versatility is great for when I'm on the go. Battery life has been excellent so far and really love the stylus pen for when I'm drafting up ideas with my suppliers and vendors. Overall really happy with the product and support I've received from Lenovo/ Lenovo Pro; thank you!

The large selection of Lenovo products shown as "Ubuntu Certified" led me to the ThinkPad X1 and I have not been disappointed. The installation of Ubuntu was successful. The upgrade of the original Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 was clean. The device itself has a great keyboard and screen. Battery life has been good. So far, everything has worked well, and I'm impressed. One small inconvenience: it wasn't clear whether or not the package included the dongle needed to use the built-in wired ethernet port ... I had to order that after the fact and it was received promptly. So far, this looks like a good product.

The only thing that annoyed me was that they switched the location of Ctrl & the Fn keys, and if you are used to having the Ctrl key on the bottom left side, it can be frustrating. I know it can be switched in Bios but they should include stickers to change what is shown on the keys.

The tablet mode is much more useful than I would have anticipated, especially for streaming and for taking notes. This is a great laptop for students and the pen's quality is comparable to the apple pen except for a few drawbacks; I also really appreciate that the computer has a built-in holder for the pen. Four stars and not five because occasionally the computer will "freeze" for 5-10 seconds at a time and this is very frustrating, especially when taking notes, and the pen is sometimes not responsive or has random settings.

Only issue I had was that upon unboxing it, it would not power up and the fix involved the pinhole reset on the bottom. No power problems since. Battery life seems adequate, not amazingly good but the 5-star is based on how much I like the look and feel of the device.

Continues my tradition of using Thinkpads for work for the past several years - the best machines that have always lived up to my work needs. This model is made of aluminum so I like it's hardened for durability. I didn't anticipate that the front edge would feel as sharp as it does, so I've turned to wearing wrist guards when using the machine. Start-up was rapid and easy. My disappointment was in the transaction experience. Lenovo promoted small business credit and I qualified for credit; I intended to use the credit line for my machine purchase. It was unclear and hassle so I ended up buying it outright. Then, a few days later I got a call from the credit company saying, "Welcome, let's get you going to use your credit." What??? In this age, seamless transactions without hassle is the name of the game. Lenovo and its partner provided me with a hassle-rich experience circa 1999. Get it right - or don't offer the service

Key pad are sized just right for me but I wish there were numbers on the right side of the keyboard. It's fast and responsive when browsing. It very quiet and the only time I noticed the fan running was when I landed on the bed and blocked the vents on the bottom of the unit.

I wanted something that would allow me to carry a single device. The ThinkPad X1 Yoga allows me to do all of this! With a great keyboard for writing and the ability to write on the screen, I am able to carry one device rather than two. I strongly recommend this product!

The two regular USB ports are a help - along with my own wheel - for the four or five peripherals I regularly use as a teacher. Missed an ethernet port when the wi-fi was down this morning. Mild concerns: 1) Will the slick exterior surface make it easier to drop than the T-470p? 2) Lifting the lid is a little awkward due to needing to put a fingernail on the keyboard section to keep it from coming up also. Biggest disappointments: getting only 3.5 hours out of my "up to 18 hour" battery, and needing to pay a tech $200 to figure out how the My Drive tree to work conveniently.

I was surprised at the battery life of the stylus since battery ran low within a couple hours. Otherwise the laptop turns on quickly, has enough ports, and it's lightweight.

Ended up having to reset with the pinhole in the bottom. The pen also took a lot of screwing around to get to turn on and link. Overall happy with it thus far though. Runs fast, gets a bit warm for my liking but I make sure to watch that.

The touchscreen has stopped working and it has no fix. Read the reviews. This issue is known and Lenovo isn't fixing the issue even when you send it in for repair. However, I've found the light, smaller laptop to be really nice for portability and I don't miss the bigger screen too much. Amazing resolution and I'm able to do most everything I want. I also got the USB-C dock to attach to my large monitor and I think that was definitely worth. I have Linux on a VM.

The Thinkpad line brings better materials in the build to make a more sturdy product in a great form factor. The battery life is great ad well as the overall performance. The screen seems to attract more fingerprints and smudges than another Yoga model. The port options are convenient. Ultra slim and portable, but no compromise in ability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little 2-in-1 This is a great little laptop. I've been using it a few weeks and so far haven't had any major issues. It works well as a laptop and a tablet. All the programs I've tried running so far have worked fine. I work with audio files, do some photo and video editing, some game playing, as well as regular computer work. Some of my files are pretty large, so I'm very glad I got the 1TB hard drive and higher RAM though. I tried out the same laptop with the smaller hard drive and RAM and it wasn't able to do everything I needed it to do. I do wish it had a larger screen size, for when I'm using it as a tablet and doing photo editing and film work away from the my larger monitors, but a larger screen size wasn't available.

If you've had previous models, you'll appreciate the new metallic body material which looks cool and leaves fewer prints and palm smudges. The 3840x2160 screen is amazing - super sharp and beautifully bright. The keyboard is the high quality you expect from a Thinkpad - and I'd say this iteration is even better than the Gen 4 keyboard. One issue I have faced: the trackpoint has stopped working randomly two times. Reinstalling the driver and rebooting did not help. I was ultimately able to recover by using a pin on the motherboard reset on the machine's bottom. Hopefully, this willnot happen again, as otherwise this machine is just perfect, I couldn't wish for anything better.

Very light weight and easy to carry around. Batter life appears to long lasting and I haven’t had issues with it dying. Graphics are good with, video quality is also good. Would recommend!

The screen would simply freeze and i could not make it work. The only way to get it to work again was to put it in sleep mode (by power button or be closing the screen). Being in warranty, i'm still waiting for a fix. Windows 11 was available for update - good thing. I have the 8 gb RAM model, soldered. I should have gone for the 16 gb version.

The machine I received a delivery from buying here was sent as is with the original issue from the previous customer. I wasted several hours saving $300-$400 for such a high-end machine. I will never buy a refurbished machine from Lenovo next time.

A lot easier to understand than Mac and Apple products, very few inconsistencies in desktop layout after start up and downloading chrome while pinning it to taskbar makes it all the more smooth. My only complaints are the keys are louder than expected and the function key is where the Ctrl key normally is. I do not understand why these keys are placed where they are and I am constantly pushing the wrong shortcut without realizing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A bit concerning My last laptop was a Lenovo ThinkPad. I bought this one as a replacement after my last one started acting up with the dreaded blue screen. At first it was intermittent but then became more frequent. A fresh installation of the software, replacement of the hard drive, nothing worked and over a month's time, the computer stopped coming on entirely. Eventually I had to start shopping for a new machine. Enter the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5. I love the sleek design and the keyboard - a main reason I chose to stay with Lenovo. I like that I can stand the computer up when I want to watch a show while moving around the house. It's really convenient and the way the screen angles up means I don't need to be sitting in order to get a clear view of the screen. The downside: After turning on the computer, installing recommended updates, and downloading Microsoft Office, I got the... blue screen of death! Very surprised to say the least. I had to restore to factory settings then reinstall all updates again in order to resolve this issue. It seems that after the first set of updates, the computer didn't automatically restart which may have led to an incomplete installation and the blue screen issue. But still. I love the computer itself but if the software doesn't function as it should, this computer - like its younger ThinkPad cousin - will end up in the electronics recycling bin.

Most things look great but some software has issues adjusting to the high resolution. The keyboard feel great and the touchscreen works fine. However, it comes with a horrible camera, and the jack for external speakers doesn't work with Windows 10...a very documented problem. Beware of this if these items are important to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Fantastic Laptop Excellent laptop. I purchased this laptop for the build quality and famous keyboard, and I was not disappointed. No discernible flex when handling the laptop. Keyboard has deep travel and nice tactile feedback, especially given the relatively thin body. I was initially hesitant about the 4K HDR screen because of the extra cost and drain on battery life. But now I cannot imagine having any other screen. The colors, brightness, and contrast are amazing. The screens on my other laptops look poor in comparison. Because of the aluminum top chasis (heat conductor, the laptop does get a little warm, but it never gets uncomfortably so (with the caveat that I typically do not engage in CPU intensive tasks). The magnesium base (another heat conductor but less so than aluminum) helps with the heat. But the cooling fan is silent. With the ambient noise in my apartment, I never even notice when the fan starts spinning. The hinges are solid, and the laptop screen does not wobble. The laptop converts easily to a tablet, which I find comfortable to use. The Comet Lake i5 is fast enough for my needs. Love the IR Windows Hello camera. The Dolby Atmos speakers are also amazing. No discernible distortions even at high volume, and the downward firing speakers do get very loud. Note that the top speakers are intended only for higher frequency sounds, so you may not hear sound coming out of these upward firing speakers at all times (but they do work). Only minor complaints are the absence of a microsd card reader, less than accurate fingerprint reader, use of LPDDR3 instead of DDR4, and typically low quality camera.

The only negative is that the HDMI port cannot drive an external 4k monitor @ 60Hz (only does 30 Hz). The workaround was to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Display Port cable which worked flawlessly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent Productivity Machine Last time I purchased a laptop was in 2018, it was a Ideapad U330. It actually still works but it extremely slow. I would rate this laptop 5/5 if it had an IRIS graphics option. The Intel Graphics 620 is just too under powered for any hopes of playing games. But I settled on this laptop because I wanted durability and so far I think it delivers. The laptop has decent amount of ports but I do wish that there was a USB-C on the right side of the laptop but if I had to pick a single side, left is probably best. I would recommend this laptop if you want a productive durable machine. I do appreciate there is a non-vPro CPU version for folks that are buying for person use.

The 2-in-1 features of this laptop are fantastic. The keyboard is unbeatable, it's the best; typing on this computer is a dream. I spent quite a bit of time researching laptops, and I always came back to this laptop. It is absolutely worth the premium price for the premium features. Rated 5 out of 5 by from a downgrade compared to 4 year old machine I was trying to upgrade from X1 4th gen which is 4 years old by now and ended-up requesting a return for yoga. Long story short, nothing got improved in the last 4 years and some things got worse - webcam quality was terrible, always blurry and out of focus, except maybe the first second - touchpad scroll action was jittery and non-smooth. When you try to scroll using 2 fingers on touchpad it would feel as if someone is trying to drag the page you're scrolling back (updating "friction" params did nothing to it). It felt as if GPU does not have enough power to process the scrolling or if the touchpad driver has issues. Again, all works flawlessly on the current 4 year old machine - "webcam on" light is a super-bright LED white light, so that every time you're on a video call it's as if someone is shining in your face with a flashlight. The model from 4 years ago had a gentle green light that is perfectly visible but doesn't blind you - The red LED dot letter "i" on ThinkPad logo is flashing when the lid is closed. Similarly, a bright LED on the side is flashing as well. Pretty bright to be annoying in the dark room. These might seem minor, but all combined were significant enough for me to return the machine - these things should not be happening on Lenovo's flagship model. They could nail it perfectly 4 years ago, it's strange it got worse over time.

As noted by many people who buy Lenovo laptops, the keyboard is amazing. I didn't realized I was missing this for so many years. I also like the little red dot trackpad, but don't use it that often. The touchpad itself is a good size and feels good to use. I have not had any issues yet with the laptop other than the pen not charging properly. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a high end school/business laptop.

However, the battery life is way below the Lenovo claimed 13 to 19 hours. It only lasts 4 - 6 hours with 4k screen. Also, the heat.... yes, it is quite hot. If you are using in under well ventilated ac controlled office, then you may not feel the heat that much, but if you use it on the move, outside, often times it becomes untouchably hot. Other than the battery life and the heat issue, it is well made and great laptop.

I was skeptical at first about having a laptop that can be folded and converted into a tablet. It has definitely made reading text books more appealing, I love being able to write notes using the notepad and pen and have them convert to text. My husband convinced me this laptop would be worth every cent and he was right.

Only complain is regarding stylus because it is so hard to find proper help document, it is constantly redirecting to wrong models. Second part that might be more fair is pricing, no one believe that LENOVO is giving 70-80% discounts. It would be better if you would price the products with real prices at beggining.

The bezel on this is smaller and thus bigger display area. The Gen 2 had a SD Slot. Gen 5 is missing this. This was a great feature. Nonetheless would buy again.

I'm pretty sure the one I bought was pre-owned (but I didn't get open box pricing) because the tap on the box was broken and there were no free trials of McAfee or MS Office or the 1-year Dropbox promo. I returned it because the touchscreen would sometimes become unresponsive and it was annoying and unusual to have the Ctrl key to the right of the Fn key. I didn't need the 400 nits display nor the IR camera. I liked the pen, 2-in-1 use, touchscreen, fingerprint reader and so I bought a cheaper Lenovo laptop that has those features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing is a one word description I replaced an older Yoga 900, which was a good notebook until I had to replace the battery. I wanted to have a great notebook that is 2 in 1. X1 Yoga adds some special things to it that most reviewers do not mention, but are very important to me: TSM module - when used for drive encryption no-one can take the drive and put it in another computer to read data from it; camera cover - slider to close the camera and provide privacy. Screen is amazing (I have the 4k screen)... very bright and very precise in touch. It includes a pen, which is not of a perfect quality for professional graphics, but is good enough for regular web surfing and simple drawing. Keyboard is best I see on notebooks. Touchpad is great and includes separate buttons. Performance is good (I have the slowest i5 that is offered) - I do not need a rocket. I still work with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and InDesign and do not see any performance problems. However, where I see the biggest difference to the Yoga 900 and Yoga 940 that my wife has, is the physical stability. It is a metal notebook. It is spill proof. Nothing feels weak. I also use it with external docking station that provides power and connects via USB-C - all via one cable. In summary - I did not see any instability and love this notebook.

I use it primarily for work, so I was looking for something with a solid keyboard and good battery life. The speakers are loud/clear and the buttons above the touchpad are a nice touch. The price can be high; however, if you check the Lenovo website, they constantly have sales. I purchased this item online during one of their doorbuster sales. The aluminum chassis feels really solid, it looks great with the iron gray finish. The shipment arrived on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good looking laptop but it came with some problems I was excited when I opened my new X1 Yoga Gen 5. It's a beautiful laptop and looks so slim. Also it looks very expensive because it it. As I inspected the exterior, I found out a small dent on the upper right frame when I'm looking at the screen. I'm so disappointed that a brand new laptop already had a dent. It looks like it hit something when being manufactured that caused the metal to chip. It must be pretty hard hit. Lenovo offered me a small compensation for it. I took it since I didn't want to have the hassle of returning. A couple days later, after updating BIOS to ver 1.09, drivers and windows, I found out the microphone array Intel SST (Device Manager>Audio) will always stop working after several minutes of turning on/restarting laptop. Each time I use the mic function in an app such as Cortana, One Note, etc., the microphone will disappear. Example of the problem: after a few minute talking to Cortana, Cortana will suddenly say that she can't hear me. If I restart the laptop, the mic will come back but it will disappear again in few minutes. That's the sign of the mic problem. I rolled back windows 10 update one by one. I'd tried to reinstall drivers but nothing worked. I think I tried almost every possible methods in the internet that I can find. You can see my post of this problem in Lenovo forum (subject: "X1 Yoga Gen 5: microsoft array microphone disappear from device manager"). In the end I contacted Tech Support and they don't know what to do either. They asked me to send for repair or ask for refund/replacement. So here I am waiting for my replacement because I need a laptop now. Btw, someone replied to my post in Lenovo forum mentioning that he/she also has 2 others X1 Yoga Gen 5 with same mic problem. I suggest everyone who has this laptop to check theirs. And if actually other people already had this problem, I hope Lenovo see this review and investigate what's wrong. Hopefully, I don't see this same problem on my replacement laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 2-in-1 with superior screen I have been looking for a replacement for my old Yoga computer for quite a while and this one was everything that I was looking for. The screen resolution is fantastic and it boots up in seconds. One of the best improvements over the old computer was the placement of the camera. It is on the top edge of the screen with this one and that is much better than the bottom. I also got it with office installed and that was very quick and easy to setup. I would definitely recommend this laptop for anyone looking for a versatile computer.

Performance is great for the general day to day office work I do, Tablet us comes in handy after hours when I am just browsing or taking note in OneNote during a meeting. The stylus works great just a little small for my hands but having a storage and built in charging is makes up for that. Biggest disappointment has been battery life but luckily I am normally working from home or at the office and can keep it juiced up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleasing computer, and plays well with Linux I don't usually get nuts about computers, but this computer is deeply satisfying to me. It's shockingly light-weight, beautiful, sleek, and feels very durable. There have been a few little kinks, but they've been related to my choice of OS, which is Ubuntu Studio. Linux does fire right up on here, but the 4k display and wifi both require a minimum kernel version of 5.4, which I believe only ships with Ubuntus later than 20.04 (although you can install it for earlier Ubuntus with some effort). I don't know the deal with other distros, but whatever distro you use, it just has to have kernel >= 5.4. All in all, I've been happy enough to keep the machine and I have very much enjoyed using it. I've used the touch screen as well as the included pen on linux and both work very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not quite filling the shoes of my old laptop... My prior laptop was the LavieZ 360 probably my most favorite computer Lenovo ever made. I was a little disappointed in the weight of this tablet. My Lavie Z 360 is probably half the weight. However there are differences. The speaker quality on the new laptop blows the LavieZ 360 out of the water. I am concerned about the longevity of my battery with this laptop. Time will tell which is why I got the warranty on it. I wish it did have more USB ports as I will have to buy a USB port adapter to add more so I can use my external dvd player. I have more things to learn about the computer itself as I go. I had to replace as my old laptop LavieZ 360 battery is no longer available.

This feedback if after latest bios updates. CPU continuously hovers around 120F even when no background process or application is running. It's not peak that's the default temperature. A regular task of streaming 4k video, cpu gets above 200F sometimes, but it's almost always above 180F. For a brand new m/c this is not right. To add to it when machine fan is working hard, it's giving a clunk sound (like a stick pocking fan blades and one feels assembly is wrong. It's not just fan noise, it's over and above it like some part is loose. I have processed return of this item

However, alloy case feels a little cool in winter, still prefer the carbo fiber case. The CPU is Intel gen10, still on 14nm, has to keep the "battery performance" in "saver" mode, other wise it runs warm and fan is on, well, it has nothing to do to Lenovo though. last, what made me to buy this laptop is the 4k HDR Dolby vision screen, it is very bright and 4K resolution make the text very sharp. However, this is still IPS panel, the color garmount and contrast is falling behind OLED screen, wish it has an OLED option. Another disadvantage of 4k screen is, the battery life is almost shortened by half, it last for ~4 hours while watching movie at max brightness.

I've had a series of Lenovo for the last 15 years, always 2-in-1 as I use them for teaching and am dependent on writing on my screen. As with my previous, this is study and substantial enough so to feel comfortable in my hands (I find some other laptops feel too fragile like I would break them if i wasn't extra careful). One 'con' is that the keyboard is a bit louder than my previous laptop (Yoga 920), although it is just possible that the 920 was soooo quiet I got spoiled.

I had Mac Book Pro before but every time I had to use a windows based program a I would run into comparability issues. I did research and read so many reviews of different models and brands and decided to go with Lenovo because of the durability of the product and all the futures it provides. Plus the design is beautiful. Also after using it for about 2 weeks now I have noticed that the computer is super light which is another plus.

You really have to click on the right side of the trackpad to right click. I can't seem to adjust to this. The keyboard is great. The multi-functionality of the laptop is great. I don't draw and am not a designer, and don't hardly use the laptop in any other position other than as a normal PC. I love the touchscreen though and often use Whiteboard to draw out my ideas in Zoom and Teams meetings. I got the i5 and wish I would have upgraded to the i7. Otherwise, its stylish and is as advertised. Nice, innovative laptop.

I have not been able to setup or use the computer because of issues with our Microsoft account and MS is not helping us. I love Lenovo laptops -- have been using them for nearly 10 years now. Tried Dell XPS and the HP Spectre for a little while, and didn't like them at all, so switched back immediately to a Lenovo Yoga.

Charging ports were wearing out, screen was rough, body was worn and tired. But, I loved my Thinkpad Yoga and didn't want anything else. So... I bought a Gen 5 upgrade! Love it! This one's screen is larger, higher quality glass and higher def. Overall machine is lighter and faster. So far, so good!

It always has to be gently “pried” apart with all fingers, risking nail breakage. Why not put a slight recession in the lip of the lower shell (at the middle) for fingers to conveniently slip into when lifting the lid?

The X1 yoga is sleek and very portable, without losing the ThinkPad qualities I love, like the track point and TouchPad buttons. The speed of turning on this laptop only still take 3 to 5 seconds after I used for one month . I installed many apps on my laptop. Everything runs fast. Spreadsheets keep your mind busy. I download data like stocks, mutual funds, lottery numbers etc. I got a mouse too but love the pen don't need a mouse. I have even sign a document and returned it. My grandson loves the whiteboard to draw on. Love this so much, faster then my other laptop and Desk Computer. After washing dishes I can't get my fingerprint to work so the security password needs entered. That's like double security. I will never buy anything else again but LENOVO. Also have a Lenovo chromebook.

It's pretty fast and dosn't get too hot while using, it needs to be left on maximum performance while using or else it becomes sluggish, battery life suffers as a result. Screen flashes when connecting and disconnecting power which is annoying. Wish it had better graphic performance, would have rather seen them sacrifice an intel for a AMD with better GFX

I had also purchased the premium tech service package and when I called for assistance, Mike was excellent. One complaint I hope Mike will be able to help me sort out - the promised battery life was up to 19 hours, reduced to a conservative 10-12 hour estimate. So far, the battery is operating at 2-3 hours.

My favorite feature is its durability. My kids and I have knocked mine off the table multiple times, but it keeps on running. I considered getting the brighter screen for when I use it outside, but I chose the base screen for longer battery life. I also love the rapid charging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changes and Losses The PC is as solid as always. I have a previous model from more than 3 years ago when DDR4 came out. They did not offer it then and they still don't for some reason. It is supposed to be faster than my older one but it is not quite as fast which is disappointing. They did away with the separate Ethernet port so now I have to use a USB version (not great). The wide port with the proprietary connector for a dock has replaced the USB-C. Also not great. They took away the microSD slot. Now I need to have a USB drive on the side. This in not preferable since they can get sheared off when they slide in and out of a laptop bag. Lots of losses here.

I have not had time to do much with the tablet side, but am looking forward to becoming expert in its use. The pen stows away and is automatically charged...very thoughtful of the design team. I probably should have given 5 stars but did not for two reasons. 1. The screen is not quite edge-to-edge as in some competitors, and 2. I would have liked the option to add a discrete graphics card. In the end, I chose this laptop anyway, knowing the above. I am glad I purchased this and recommend it highly.

The only device on the market in 2020 that has a 2-in-1 form factor (while staying true to a full Intel laptop architecture), a 4K display, and a WWAN option. Highly recommended for photographers and cinematographers, the color gamut and performance of the display are excellent for a machine of this size. Using the stock SSD, I was able to transfer a full 16GB CompactFlash to the machine in 5 minutes on USB 3, prep in Adobe Bridge and edit in Premiere seamlessly in the 5 minutes, and upload the resulting 200MB .mov file to Box in the following 5 minutes, all without WIFI. Simply stellar performance. The X1 Yoga 5th Gen also performs well as a work-from-home machine: in tent or display mode, the 4 far field mics do an excellent job of recording clear audio, while still offering an aux port for headset use. The docked, always charged pen is similarly handy for digitally signing PDFs. In tablet mode, reading long documents in direct sunlight on my porch swing is a joy. Typing is equally very pleasant with the only learning curve being the function key sitting where one expects the Ctrl key to be. However, having a dedicated print screen key and a wide array of dual function keys specially designed for telecommuting has me setting aside my mechanical keyboard I would normally use to write long emails (in point of fact, I wrote this review on the X1 Yoga’s keyboard with the device on my knee). From everything I’d read on forums, I did not expect my Google FI data-only SIM to function in this machine and had planned to use the included Lenovo Connect feature instead to work on the go. Incredibly, all i had to do was insert the SIM and restart the machine a couple of times and presto, ACPC. Frankly, the ability to use my SIM alone and not be beholden to Lenovo for mobile internet is just the cat’s pajamas. There are a couple of known drawbacks to the X1 Yoga design that I was more than willing to sacrifice to get this level of performance. The first is well-documented: battery life on the 4K model is poor (but not noticeable more than any other 4K 2-in-1). If you don’t need a 4K display, the Full HD display negates this issue altogether. While I do find myself plugging in the 4K X1 Yoga frequently, it’s only because I’m so taken with running the machine in Best Performance mode. The included 65 watt charger offers a strong quick charge solution; I also picked up the 65 Watt Slim Charger for my tech bag and find it a great addition for mobile work. I have no fears about the life of the battery either, as opening the case and replacing the battery is the simplest and easiest operation offered on any 2-in-1 on the market. My Surface Book 2 on the other hand… is a digital picture frame for my office desk now. The other drawback to the X1 Yoga design is audio. While it supports Dolby Atmos, you will likely be plugging in a headset to use this feature. The downward firing speakers obviously suffer if you’re not using it on a solid surface. I had hoped that Lenovo would implement the rotating sound bar from the C940 which offers a solution to maintaining audio performance in a slim 2-in-1 form factor. That’s not likely however given the need to maintain the ThinkPad mil spec rating. While we’re on the subject, the build quality is unmatched. I’m not overly careful when it comes to keeping my laptop from dings and knocks. That being said, after two weeks of constant use in many different environments, I have zero scratches on the top jeweled design edge, or anywhere else for that matter. The fans do have a tendency to kick on more frequently under load than I expected, but do so briefly and effectively, avoiding thermal throttling to maintain desktop-level performance on a 2-in-1 (which you usually just have to accept as a sacrifice). Honestly my only hesitation at buying this machine was the soldered-on memory, but that’s standard on a 2-in-1 at this point and I’m not especially worried given the ThinkPad’s track record. I doubt I really need to worry about drops though, given it’s light enough for one-handed pickup and carry. There are a few lighter 2-in-1 machines on the market, but none with the X1 Yoga’s feature set. Barring any unforeseen leaps in technology, I wholly expect to keep the X1 Yoga Gen 5 as my primary laptop for many years. Out of the 9 laptops I’ve had personally over the past 20 years, the X1 Yoga Gen 5 is easily the best designed machine I’ve ever owned. You simply can’t get these results anywhere else.

This laptop is a complete win on all fronts: it’s powerful enough to handle all the programs I use simultaneously while at school/work, the drawing sensitivity surpasses the surface pro because there is no diagonal jitter, and it is a sturdy build with beautiful sound.

First one lasted 6 years and was still going strong with not one single issue the entire time, but because of the photo editing I do, I wanted to get another one before something went wrong and I lost everything like has happened in the past. So far, it has not disappointed. Reminds me much of my first one, but faster and more storage (double what I had which means more pictures which makes me happy!). I know there are new features - but I've yet to explore. This is my 3rd Lenovo product and I am a firm believer in their products. Definitely worth paying that little extra for something I know won't disappoint me!

Just as fast but with a touch screen, built in pen, and the ability to conduct presentations on the go, this machine is all around the best I have come across at the price point. Had to do a reset to get it to power up again. But shut down right away, the third time I did it I saw a CMOS error. This was my 4th Lenovo two oldest still work the, 3rd the motherboard went bad in year 3. They seem to be less reliable then they used to be. After some deliberation I have decided to get another Lenovo, but if I have issues with it, it will be the last Lenovo I purchase

The ability to use it as a tablet is very nice as it allows me to have one less device to maintain. The X1 is quiet and does not generate much heat, a big improvement over my last laptop. My only complaint is that the built in speakers don't sound great, they have a bit of static, but when using headphones it sounds normal.

I use the pen often to make notes and adjust designs on the fly. While I knowingly mage sacrifices (smaller keyboard/no number pad. I am overall happy with the purchase. My only real complaint is the layout of the keyboard is different the others I have used and the keyboard also feels a little tight.

I bought this primarily for the 4k screen to use remote desktop around the house, connecting to a tower host with a 4K monitor and a couple of Vbox VMs, and not have to keep changing the screen resolution. As it turns out, it's powerful enough to run a VM or two on its own, so it gets used away from home, as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade from Yoga C940 & C740 Huge upgrade from the consumer grade yoga series. I own several of the consumer grade Yoga 700-900 series. Those machines are all still in service today, however they spend most of their time in the office or at home. I wanted to get a more durable/mobile alternative since COVID I have been working in the field more (I am a Nurse that manages massive data bases for the CDC). I bought a ThinkPad P1 in 2019 and LOVE this machine, but wanted a more portable and flexible unit (for sharing the screen in display mode). The ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5 has an incredible display (do the upgrade) is extremely fast and responsive, the keyboard is a dream to type on for hours, and plays well with the Synology NAS in office and remotely. Everything in the ThinkPad X series are solid reliable machines in adverse climate conditions (Working in COVID tents during Michigan winters). I am not a paid reviewer, and my company doesn't buy or reimburse for me. I spend a lot of time using my equipment and appreciate quality and value.

Unfortunately, it also lives up to the negative aspect often seen in reviews for this configuration - disappointing battery life. I’m lucky to get five hours of active use without a charge. Increase the battery life and this wound be a five start machine.

The design is sleek metal, the keyboard is a delight to use and backlit with multiple settings, and the active pen works great in its charging dock (though the pen itself is smaller than I expected, only about 5 in long). The processing speed is amazing, and the battery lasted 9 hours while downloading and installing a bunch of programs. Very happy so far!

Out of the box, my thinkpad yoga gets 2-4 hours with normal use, even when adopting power-saving features such as turning off bluetooth, screen dimming, etc. If you are like me, you would have liked to know that beforehand.

While I rarely flip the screen, I find the yoga construction to be much more solid, especially at the screen and hinge. Worth the slightly higher weight. Highly recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing top-of-the-line laptop - see inside I am a long time X1 Carbon fan. Since the 1st gen X1 carbon, through the 2nd 3rd and 4th gens of this amazing laptop. So when it was time to get a new laptop, i said - let's give the X1 Yoga a try. Here are the impressions: The good - It is still one of the rare laptop that consist of all 3 physical buttons above the touchpad. to me it is critical as i use the middle one ALL THE TIME. so this played a major role. Performance wise - i always try to purchase most RAM and best CPU i can, this is no exception and performance are pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but i could feel the difrence coming off my old X1 Carbon. Another plus is the screen - very bright, very good colors. Now let's talk about the down sides: 1. This is a Yoga, not a Carbon, this laptop is made of metal, it feels cheap compared to its predecessor, it feels heavy and bulky and has none of the sophistication and elegance that the old classic X1 Carbon had. 2. Web cam quality is sub par. How bad is it? it is worse than my 2012 ipad, worse than my 4gen X1 carbon webcam. it is just like Lenovo used cameras from 2003. to make things even worse, this is the model with the "improved" camera, so i dont even want to guess how bad the cheaper camera is. 3. Drivers drivers drivers - i was expecting that in 2021, for a laptop running windows10, all the issues will be ironed by now. well, i was expecting. blue screens once a month, and drivers collusion that forces you to disable HW pieces for the laptop to work well. bottom line - it's a nice laptop if you never had an X1, but coming from an X1 Carbon, this laptop is a complete waste of time and money, unless the X1 carbon will make a comeback to offer touch screen, good spec and freaking CARBON this would be my last Lenovo.

The only downside that I have noted is the fingerprint tech has not worked well for me. I am disappointed not to really be able to use this since it has worked successfully only about 30% of the time. I find the touchscreen to be very responsive and am happy with the colors and image quality (I chose not to go with the 4k screen because I value battery life). I like the sturdy feel of the keyboard. I also purchased the USB-C Dock Gen2 and am happy that I did since it was easy to connect power, a large external monitor and my printer. Sound quality is good for my purposes without any additional speaker and unlike my prior Surface, this easily works with the speakers on my monitor and with earbuds.

Almost one week in, I'm generally pleased but have met a few hiccups: first, there is a glitch that causes the Wifi Network to disconnect every time the computer sleeps, and the only way to reconnect is to a) manually disable and then reenable the network adaptor or b) restart your computer. From online forums it looks like this problem used to be solved by changing the advanced power settings to keep the wifi adapter on even when the computer sleeps, but strangely in the current software this option does not exist. I have seen several complaints about this on Lenovo's forums and hope they will soon fix this issue. In the meantime I have turned off my sleep timer. The second issue might be a hardware or software problem: the pen/stylus that came with the computer will not pair with the computer (via built-in Bluetooth), and thus is unusable. I haven't found any online discussions referencing this problem, so it may be uncommon. I have submitted a service ticket online and have full confidence the issue will be resolved.

It's a bit heavier, but I much prefer the screen and chassis on the Yoga over the X1 Carbon. The CPU and RAM options are really disappointing though - for a professional level laptop to not allow more than 4 cores or 16 gb of RAM in 2020 is pretty bad, and no AMD options on top of that is frustrating as well.

I love the weight and size, the overall build is solid, and the body does not show fingerprints (although the screen does). The keyboard is great, and the display is bright with sharp images and brilliant colors. The camera and microphone are fine for Zoom meetings. The port combination is adequate, but a USB C dongle is needed for an ethernet port and a micro SD slot. My build included 4G LTE mobile broadband, and it works great. The sound is rich, although the volume won't fill a room. With the The fingerprint scanner works although it likes one finger more than another. The pen is a plus, but I have not mastered its use. The battery life seems fine, but I need to use it more to really test it.

My Yoga starts the morning as my newspaper tablet (I was an adamant tactile reader), converting to my personal business laptop (i.e. ensuring I use my work laptop only for work) but also my work laptop (with most of the functionality needed to avoid opening my employer issued machine), and even my loose note taking conceptual machine as I try to better leverage the white board and pen features. The only drawbacks I can see so far are: it could be lighter as a tablet, but I’m a big guy and wouldn’t want to sacrifice the sturdiness; the screen brightness wouldn’t stand up to the sunshine, but as I rarely use it outside this doesn’t hamper me.

Thin, light, 10th gen efficient cpu, 4k touchscreen with stylus, hi speed wifi6 and backlit keyboard are all the crucial ingredients that make this laptop a keeper for me. I would be happier with a 1T ssd, but the 512G is still adequate. I'm also very pleased that the biometrics work with both windows and fedora Linux.

Display: it's fantastic, vibrant colors, sharp, gets really bright. 14" is the best choice for portability. Keyboard: it's a great typing experience, keys have good travel, there's a subtle softness to them hitting. Weight: this thing is light, doesn't feel heavy for a 14". Ports: I really like how it incorporates a hdmi port as well as thunderbolt ports. While other lightweight portable laptops are shedding ports to just two thunderbolts, the x1 yoga even has a USB A port. Battery: the 4k display definitely impacts battery life, I can't say how much but I would expect 4-7 hours with YouTube playing & 40%-50% brightness. Performance: I got the i5-10210U with UHD graphics. I'm pretty disappointed with it. 4k YouTube videos stutter, moving the mouse while playing the video makes it stutter more. This is with better battery power setting. Updating all the drivers actually made this worse. I really like everything about the laptop but I'm quite concerned about the performance especially 2-5 years from now.

The only one minor issue I had so far was that my computer lights were on but the screen was off and I couldn’t turn the computer off. Not sure what happened but it all went back to normal and has been working perfectly since. I just had to press the reset button in the back of the computer. I would highly recommend this computer to anyone who needs a high quality computer that can ‘do it all’ and is super lightweight. I am a landscape designer, so being able to smoothly use all my softwares and project on a second screen from my laptop without bugs or delay is crucial to me. This computer check all my boxes so far.

The graphics are fantastic and the speed or processing has been excellent. The only additional thing I wish it had was one more USB-A port to be able to use a wireless mouse, keyboard, and portable second screen simultaneously. Nevertheless, the Lenovo 7-in-1 hub works well with this laptop (include power pass-through), which has solved my USB problem.

Fingerprint sensor is a bit finicky. Facial recognition sign-in is awesome. Single lightning connection to docking station is a definite plus. One annoying idiosyncrasy is that the modem constantly (every few minutes) renews its lease even though the ipconfig /all claims the lease is good for 24 hours. This is true whether the computer is signed on over DHCP or using a fixed ip address. This is not a problem which I had with my old HP computer (now retired).

When my first ThinkPad Yoga finally died (after 6 years!!), I decided to upgrade to the newest model and I could not be more happy with the experience! The upgraded fingerprint reader and pen have made designing graphics and editing videos even easier and faster than before! I also know that I can trust the customer service at Lenovo to help whenever I need. My original purchase in 2012 was a ThinkPad Twist that didn't survive past the warranty, but customer service quickly replaced the computer and got me back to work! Love this company and this product!

So much so that I bought a nicer version (4K screen, more RAM, etc. for personal use, which is what this review is specifically for. It's quick and responsive, has a nice keyboard, and is functional with the many positions and modes it can be in. It's especially handy on an airplane or other tight spaces, and it's very slim. The 4K screen if you opt for it is beautiful. I almost bought an iPad Pro, but once you add the accessories etc., you are paying as much as a higher end X1 Yoga for so much less inside.. and an iPad can't really replace a laptop anyways if that's what you need in my opinion. In a nutshell, if you buy yourself your exact same work laptop for your own personal use.. then it's probably a solid product.

The screen is responsive and extremely accurate and the usual, albeit slimmer, ThinkPad keyboard makes typing a joy. Docking one star due to the removal of the MicroSD slot. This was obviously a cost saving measure as the form factor of the laptop did not gain anything from the removal.

It was supposed to be a present for an event but it did not show up as initially promised. I finally received it and the speaker is not working. I can't do video calls. It is back for repairs because I cant even use it for one day

After doing fairly extensive online and in-person research, including looking and physically operating both Lenovo and competitor's models, I decided that the Lenovo X1 Yoga was the best blend of features and price. The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has MacBook-like build quality and trackpad control, but with a Windows OS that works seamlessly with our other Windows-based systems. Hands down, this was the best PC for the price and I couldn't be happier with the purchases.

I'm a multi-tasker and it runs smooth with multiple applications open. Because It boots very quickly, I'm more likely to turn off between uses than my former computer. Although it does not contain a lot of bloatware, it was very difficult, by intention, to determine how to make Chrome my default browser. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not bad but I was expecting more I got this computer because I wanted a PC but also wanted a tablet that I could take notes on if I wanted to. I love the ThinkPad brand and was willing to take a risk on the Yoga. The good: I love the keyboard on this computer. I had a Macbook Pro with TouchBar 2017 15" before this computer and the keyboard on that computer was horrible. The stylus and touch screen on this computer are nice for taking notes and doing other things. I am not sure how much I will use this feature in the future. The Not-So-Good: The reason I am giving this computer 3 stars is for a few different reasons.The fan will get hot quite often, even when running relatively basic tasks. I feel like I don't want to run too much out of fear that I will overwork the computer, even though it can probably handle the work load. I just don't want it to get too hot. I also wish that there were more USB-C ports on this computer. With the USB-C charging cable, you can only plug in the charging cord into the left side of the computer. I also really do not like the mouse. The mouse on the MacBook, for example, is much easier to use because you can click anywhere on the pad. On this computer, it was originally setup that only the bottom left corner would register as a "left click" and the bottom ight would register as a "right click." The top quarter of the mouse pad is not clickable. I changed the setting though so both the bottom right and bottom left would register as a "left click" and if two fingers are used, it will be registered as a "right click." I was also disappointed in the computer screen. I don't need a fancy screen by any means, but the quality could definitely be a little better than it is. Some icons and things on the computer just look burry. I also wish this computer had a back lit keyboard, so I could see the keys better in the dark. The camera quality is also not very good. I also do not think the battery life is all that good. It could maybe last three hours but probably not more if you are streaming and doing lots of other stuff.

Hopefully it is a matter of doing a few discharge cycles, but I still haven't been able to get more than 6 hours of battery even on battery saver mode

I have used Yoga devices for some time for their versatility. I don't use the "tablet" feature much, although this one is the first one that's close to light enough for that. However, I use it in laptop, tent, and presentation modes when working at a desk with other monitors. Many ports provide additional flexibility for these modes. The battery life is good, but not spectacular. I love the USB C charging, as it provides convenience for buying non-branded / custom chargers.

It's a reasonable size to use as a tablet (I was worried about that and I'm excited to play with the different angles I can set it at. Only complaint at this point is that it is not recognizing its own built in microphone, but i am thinking this is something I can fix...

Unfortunately, the battery does not stand more than 6 hours in normal use. I'm really upset! And there is no way to contact through chatting for this product you have to call by phone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerhouse in a petite package This powerful laptop / tablet in one has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it -- from million-line spreadsheets that would regularly crash my old computer, to high-end design renderings. The graphics are amazing: even better than my former Macbook with the Retina display. And it's smaller and lighter than my Macbook Air Pro despite being more than an inch larger. Whether I'm curling up with it on the sofa in tablet form, sketching on it with the pen, or running advanced renderings and analyses, this laptop does it all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thinkpad-to-Macbook-to-Thinkpad again In 2013 I switched from Thinkpad(T61) to Macbook(Pro,Retina), and now back to Thinkpad(X1 Yoga). First impression - it is pleasant to have THE BEST KEYBOARD back (although MBP was pretty good too, plus it's back-lit). Also, it is good to have the shortcuts back. The retina screen on Mac was indeed an eye candy, but X1 is also not bad - especially accounting for the touchscreen, what a game changer to have a 2-in-1! A very sturdy built too. Also, love the camera shutter as a comforting element to ensure privacy. From a wish-list of enhancements: The battery charge holds alright, though it would be good to have 12 hours+ for reassurance. The Bluetooth is really good; I didn't have the best luck with WiFi signal strength everywhere yet comparing to my Mac, will look into settings.

The X1 yoga is sleek and very portable, without losing the ThinkPad qualities I love, like the track point and TouchPad buttons. The sound is loud and crisp and I am excited to explore using it in tablet mode. The buttons and keyboard layout feel great for touch typing.

The tablet feature with the touchscreen allows me to draw and laptop features with keyboard gives normal functionality for papers and web browsing. I did have a fan problem which having the warranty they called me less than 24 hours and came to place to replace it. Highly suggest warranty too!

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga was an excellent choice and near perfect for our community and economic development department staff here at a regional association of local governments office. I serve as the Deputy Director as well as the Chief Technology Office with 90 employees. Having reliable, well-functioning laptops for a mobile workforce is critical to our success, especially out in the field. These Yoga devices really fill our need. The reason is that Lenovo is a great company that builds great computers at a great price. This one was for my wife who is going back to school again. She needed it is a short amount of time and had to have certain things on it. I jumped on the website and attempted to build one, but the ship time was too long. I clicked the chat button and within minutes I was chatting with a rep. I told him what I needed and that I needed it to ship quickly. He sent me an email with a quote for review. I looked it over and it had everything she wanted. All I had to do was complete the order, which took about five minutes. I got the confirmation email and a tracking number the next day. The computer arrived about week after I ordered it. My wife opened it up and went right to work on it. I have never been disappointed, and neither has my son who also has a Lenovo computer.
