For fixed or removable RAID/JBOD applications
The Data Silo® 550 (DS550) is a rugged steel, standalone tower, RAID-ready chassis designed to reliably house up to nine 3.5" or 5.25" inch half-height CD-ROM, DVD, tape or hard drives, or up to seven SCSI devices with one full-height RAID controller.
The DS550 expansion chassis comes equipped with dual 400 watt, auto-ranging, load-sharing power supplies and two high-pressure blowers in two hot swappable modules (one power supply and one blower in each). The DS550 blowers are equipped with a 2-speed manual speed control switch. The DS550 chassis withstands an operating temperature of 50°C (122°F) and a storage temperature of up to 75°C (167°F).
DS550 ships as a pre-wired single channel chassis equipped with a 9-drive Ultra160 cable set and a dual 68-pin VHDCI rear panel connector. There are internal power connections for up to twelve devices.
Nine device mounting brackets are also included for adapting individual 3.5" devices to the DS550's nine 5.25" bays. Additional adapter brackets are available, allowing the DS550 to support up to twelve low-profile devices.
DS550 Front Panel
The DS550 front panel operator display provides red indicator LEDs that specify important operating information. A steady glow on the Power On LED indicates that power is being supplied to connected peripherals. If the DS550's internal ambient temperature rises above 40°C, the Temperature Warning indicator LED will flash. This LED can be reset by pressing the yellow Reset button.
A flashing red Blower 1 or 2 Failure LED indicates that a blower is running slow or has failed; a flashing red Power Supply 1 (or 2) Failure LED indicates that a power supply has failed. These LEDs continue to flash until the faulty power supply/blower module has been replaced.
Audible alarm also exists and will sound if any of the above error or warning conditions occur. This alarm may be muted by pressing the yellow Mute button. (Pressing the Mute button again will allow the alarm to continue to sound until the alarm condition has been corrected.)
DS550 Cables
Additional internal cable sets for the DS550 chassis are available separately to connect one, two, four or nine peripheral bays together. StorCase also provides external SCSI cables and terminators with a variety of 50-pin and 68-pin configurations designed especially for use with the DS550 chassis and capable of interfacing to several standard host connections.
