Complexity increases risk of failure. So, unified architecture and ease of use were top of mind when the backup and recovery software has been built. It is a comprehensive solution that empowers even a one-person IT department to protect virtual and physical environments with a high degree of simplicity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One Software, One Console For All Kinds Of Data Protection Valuable FeaturesCross-platform support: Hyper-V can be restored in VMware and vice-versa. True online High Availability of Physical and Virtual Machine; full system.Improvements to My OrganizationIt can protect DC and DR both, and it is very helpful for DC-DR replication.Room for ImprovementAll Windows, virtualization and Linux VM systems.Use of SolutionFive years.Stability IssuesNo.Scalability IssuesNo.Customer Service and Technical SupportThe best.Previous SolutionsYes, HP Data Protector and Symantec, Double-Take, and all the software's functions which can be done by one Arcserve UDP.Initial SetupYes, straightforward.Pricing, Setup Cost and LicensingIt's simple and okay.Other Solutions ConsideredVeeam.Other AdviceJust use Arcserve UDP for Backup, Replication, and a High Availability solution. It is one software and one console for all kinds of data protection.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are a premium business partner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We have a backup which is replicated to a remote site with instant recovery. Valuable Features:It is easy to use and is an all-around solution for the backup of the Windows/Linux/Hyper-V/VMware environments. It has a very simple installation and a straightforward setup.Replication, deduplication and the cloud integration are the most valuable features.Improvements to My Organization:We now have a backup which is replicated to a remote site with instant recovery.Room for Improvement:Arcserve needs to add the Linux appliance for the setup, which should be available as the software appliance with an automated install on Bare Metal, as it is available for the OVA on VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V that supports KVM.What I would like to see available in Arcserve is:Virtual appliance for Vmware, Hyper-V and KVM.A software appliance that is ISO so that you start installation on an approved server (from HPE, DELL, Cisco whatever as long as it is Tier 1 vendor available in every country today) and you create appliances without much thinking regarding how to lay down configuration. The reason for this is that the support network for Arcserve appliances is not able in most of the countries outside USA or EU to replace broken units in less then 15 days.So you stay without backup for a minimum of 15 days. With software appliance you avoid virtualization overhead and you create appliance according to best practice from Arcserve. This is something we do with Sophos UTM often. Finally, I would like to see better integration with HCI (Nutanix, Scale Computing, Simplivity)Use of Solution:I have used this solution for three years.Stability Issues:There was no stability issue.Scalability Issues:There were no scalability issues either.Technical Support:Technical support is great.Previous Solutions:Previously, we were using HPE Data Protector, however, it was a too complicated and outdated interface, so we moved over to this solution.Initial Setup:It has a very simple and straightforward setup.Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:You should take a look at Arcserve UDP and compare it to some other solutions.Other Solutions Considered:We looked at Veeam, Unitrends, NAKIVO and Simpana Commvault.Other Advice:It is a very good product for most of the organizations.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:After we implemented this solution in our company, we became a reseller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It allowed me to build a low-cost DR site that replicates from the backup, but it currently lacks SIFS (NetApp or EMC) support from the UDP console. Valuable Features:* Support for physical systems* Agentless backup for VMware & Hyper-V* Global deduplication* Remote replication* Virtual standbuyImprovements to My Organization:With UDP, I built a low-cost DR site that replicates from the backup.Room for Improvement:For the next release, I'd like to see* SIFS (NetApp or EMC) support from the UDP console.* In the current version we need to integrate with Arcserv backup 16.5 NDMP module* Tighter integration with tape.* Better Integration with RHA.* Multi-Tenancy* Virtual Stand by Seamless Integration form hyper v VHDX source to VMware VMDKUse of Solution:I've been using the Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP).Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Previous Solutions:I used Backup Exec before. I switched because UDP is agentless, which works well for my VMware backup to disk, as well as being easy to sync with the remote siteInitial Setup:The setup is straightforward, and in less than three hours, I got the first backup running.Implementation Team:I did it in-house.ROI:It took us 12 months to get.Cost and Licensing Advice:You should go for the three year license.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
