The ASUS RT-AC66U is a 5th gen dual-band Wi-Fi router, and the launch platform for the new ASUS AiCloud service. Its speed reaches 1.75Gbps, currently the fastest available, utilizing the Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi controller and working in 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The 5GHz band supports up to 1.3Gbps, exceeding current Gigabit wired transmission and 3X faster than 802.11ac. The RT-AC66U offers smooth lag-resistant multitasking and super-fast streaming, while ASUS AiRadar intelligently strengthens wireless connections via powerful amplification, offering future-proof optimized performance.

AiCloud offers a unified app for iOS and Android devices that turns the RT-AC66U into a personal cloud server, with easy connectivity to Windows PC, Mac, Linux machines, and all USB storage. Each account can sync with other AiCloud clients and public cloud products directly. All your content, files, and data can be accessed, synced, shared, and managed from almost any device - smartphones to desktops - wherever and whenever you're online.

Whether you're a tech-savvy enthusiast or a first-time user, the RT-AC66U is exceptionally easy to use with CD-free Quick Installation Setup (QIS) that lets you plug-n-surf right out of the box and connect PCs, smartphones, tablets, and other wireless devices quickly. Thanks to its refined interface tools, you get control like never before, letting you monitor signal strength, setup parental settings, and other useful functions in a robust yet intuitive way.

Product Reviews
Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 9reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by ASUS has made the HORRIBLE decision with this otherwise fine piece of equipment to completely screw up any hopes you may have had for running a simple Filezilla FTP Server behind it. ASUS has taken ports 20 & 21 and reserved them for their own internal FTP server. And, here's the boot in your butt, THEY KEEP THE PORTS RESERVED EVEN IF YOU ELECT TO TURN OFF THEIR FTP SERVER.That's right...you will NEVER user port 20 or 21 for anything other than their own internal FTP server.Even trying to get FTP to work from outside the LAN with non-standard ports has not worked. Maybe their QOS recognizes FTP traffic and is forwarding it to their own infernal server - even when you have the thing turned off - who knows? October 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by An excellent router! I will never switch to another brand after this one. This router puts out great signal and with the advanced features makes home networking a breeze! A must have! February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent as an Access Point This router has a greater range than others I tested. I use these in multiple locations throughout a large facility. It has solved several issues using a wireless connection to access one of our database programs. My users no longer experience dropped connections or timeouts. So far they have proven to be a good choice. January 22, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by I have had this router for 10 months now and I love it. I have the latest firmware installed and rarely have to reboot this unit. The UI is very straightforward with lots of advanced features. I have awesome signal strength throughout an entire 2000 sq ft home. September 13, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by I finally decided to take and replace my old reliable D-Link DIR-655 even though it was operating just fine. I replaced it with this unit hoping that it would take care of a weird spot in my house that just likes to have weird connectivity issues. Well it didn't fix the connectivity issues as they still persist. One thing that I'm getting frustrated with is how frequently I need to reboot the device to "fix" things. The latest issue that I'm running into is that I lose connectivity into the web interface but I at least had enough for sight to turn up telnet so I can get in and issue a reboot command. This is actually a very common issue with the current latest and greatest firmware Another frustration that I have with the unit is that when I do reboot the device I literally have to go in and hard reset my cable modem for whatever reason. It also struggles with maintaining connectivity when the ISP DHCP renewal comes up and the IP address changes. It also has a hard time keeping all of my Xboxs connected to Xbox live with multiple accounts. If I shut down one Xbox that is using one Xbox live account it has a tendency to also reset the connection for any other Xbox that is using a different Xbox live account. This still persists even though I have the Xbox configuration set. I'm no slouch when it comes to networking and technology and I wouldn't recommend this wireless router now that I've had it now for 3 plus months. If I hadn't already gotten rid of my good old reliable D-Link DIR-655 I'd probably switch back to it and the stand alone wireless access point I use to have. I had fewer issues and things just seem to work.Issues:Reboot causes you to have to hard reset in my case Comcast Cable Modem in order to get internet up and online (Arris 722 if anyone cares)Random connectivity issues caused by ISP releasing and renewing your IP address. (I usually maintain a VPN connection for days on end and I'll come down and it will come back and tell me that it had to reconnect the client. When this happens I am hard wired directly into the wireless router.)Xbox Live randomly disconnects. This is especially apparent when you have multiple Xbox systems hooked up using multiple Xbox Live Logins. From my documented experience the only thing that I can think the router is actually doing is issuing a broad force close of Xbox connections which has the unintended consequence of killing any other sessions that are active at the same time. I haven't had a chance to take and WireShark out the sessions but from what I'm seeing it makes the most sense. Also it's near impossible to submit a support ticket with ASUS in regards to these issues as the online form they have doesn't recognize my serial number.Overall my first foray into the world of Open Source networking gear hasn't left me with the best taste in my mouth. Rated 5 out of 5 by Best router I have ever owned Took a chance based on some other reviews and have been very very pleased. I have yet to reboot this router after running for months. That compares with having to reboot a Netgear or D-Link box at least once a month. May 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Works great hosting a 2TB WD Passport USB HD for network storage I bought this router so incase I wanted to buy another I could bridge them for ultra fast intranet functionalility in the house and because it can host USB HD's for Network storage. You can also setup several wireless networks on it secure and public. I had my 2 TB WD USB Passport HD setup in about 10 minutes. You can even specify accounts and assign permissions like Read, Write or both. I have no problems at all downloading movies to it from the internet and streaming them wirelessly around the house to all our other wireless computers without lag while it is still in use getting the others out on the internet. I have to reset it occasionally when something is acting up (like once a month), but I can never tell if it is the ISP's router's fault or the ASUS. I just reset them both at the same time. ANother cool thing is you can buy directional dish add on entennas that greatly increase the range. I did and picked up a medium signal from 2 houses away! January 9, 2014
