Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cross project customization helps to maintain standards for fields and workflows throughout projects Valuable FeaturesCross project customization through template really helps to maintain standards with respect to fields, workflows throughout the available projects.Traceability feature really allows you to maintain linkage between all the test artifacts, starting from Releases>Requirements>Test Coverage>Test Execution>Defects. ALM allows you to maintain complete end-to-end process.Business Views has really come in handy for all users, as different kinds of reports can be created very easily and published to all the stakeholders.Synchronizer add-in has allowed us to integrate Microfocus ALM to other third-party tools like JIRA, ClearCase and ClearQuest, and helps to eliminate the isolation between these tools.ALM has brought great collaboration among the team members.Improvements to My OrganizationHelps to maintain all the test artifacts in one place as a central repository where all teams can contribute and collaborate with each other.Room for ImprovementDashboard* Defect ageing reports need to be included as built-in* Availability of built-in report related to Defect Removal efficiency* Availability of built-in report for calculating Defect Density* Availability of built-in report for end-to-end traceability* Availability of reports specific to Automation projects.Management- Libraries* Ability to include Test Set data in Libraries so that Test Set execution can be transferred to other projects using Library functionalityTest Lab* Ability to upload Test Execution results from Excel to HPE ALMTest Plan* Ability to maintain Manual and Automation projects in single HPE ALM project* Composite execution of manual and automated scripts would be helpfulDefects* SLA-related ability for defect module where ALM would send automail to stakeholders for the defects which have not been updated in a long timeUse of SolutionI have been using the solution for 10 years now.Stability IssuesALM is quite a stable application. We had some issues during the initial setup but it's been stable since, due to right level of competency/expertise we have in the organization to maintain the ALM setup.Scalability IssuesNo scalability issues.Technical SupportTechnical support is not that great. We really need to push to get HPE support to provide a resolution for technical issues. Tech support needs to improved now, as it has deteriorated badly.Previous SolutionsHPE ALM was our first choice.Initial SetupInitial setup was not that complex.Pricing, Setup Cost and LicensingHPE has always been flexible in terms of pricing and licensing, but we are a bit concerned with the fact that it is now in the hands of Micro Focus and things may change.Other Solutions ConsideredNo.Other AdviceThink about the below before you start implementing this product:* What’s the total user base you are expecting to on-board?* How many projects/countries/entities are going to be on-boarded to the platform, and then design the hardware configurations accordingly.* Do you have any other tools which need to be integrated with this product? Is there any ready-to-use integration already available or do you need to build it from scratch?* Note that this product does provide the ability to control user access and provides security.* Talk to your network security team and check if anything specific needs to implemented along with this product, like dual factor user provisioning, reverse proxy, TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2. Does this product support all these?* Check the organization plan in terms of roll-out of latest Operating Systems, Browsers. Does this product support those latest OSs, browsers, versions, etc?* Hire a HP ALM administrator expert who can guide you to implement the product in the right manner.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Use The REST API To Automate QA Reporting And Integrate QA Information Into the Development Build Process, However The Initial Setup is Extremely Complex Valuable Features:REST API. It lets me do what I need to do, instead of what HPE Quality Center does on its own.Improvements to My Organization:By using the REST API, I have automated QA Reporting, and integrated QA information into the development build process.Room for Improvement:Its performance is horrible, and it's unnecessarily complex, which means the local site administrators set it up to be used in very unproductive ways.Use of Solution:10 years (including earlier versions).Stability Issues:Yes. While most of it is introduced by our poor local setup, that is a direct outcome of my complaint mentioned in the need for improvement.Scalability Issues:Yes, but again this mostly do with how we implemented it locally. Again, it is an outcome of the issue that the local site administrators set it up to be used in very unproductive ways.Technical Support:On the lower end.I have a lot of trouble getting to useful information – on the HP site, and with their technical support. Though I’m far removed from interacting with HP support directly now (at one point I was on the local support team for HPE QC, but now I’m just a user within my company).Previous Solutions:Yes – HPE QC is much better than anything else I have seen.Initial Setup:Extremely complex, and unnecessarily so. Main reason was HPE QC doesn’t do a good job of explaining how you can keep it simple and still get the same job done. The tool is ready to do a great job, its how it gets implemented that is the real problem.Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:I understand that it’s still extremely expensive.Other Solutions Considered:Yes – PVCS Tracker, Compuware’s Track Record, SmartBear, and JIRA. Some groups use JIRA for defect management (in addition to its development usage), but local JIRA usage is just as messed up in its setup that it just recreated the problems which we have with HPE QC instead of solving them.Other Advice:Same advice as for any Test Resources Management product: KISS – "Keep it simple, stupid."Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy To Track Test Cases' Automation Status Valuable Features:* Entering requirements and mapping of requirements with test cases.* Writing and execution of test cases and reporting defects.* Generating customized reports.Improvements to My Organization:Our organization has developed a product for automating test cases and we track the test cases' automation status with HPE ALM. It includes a column which made it easy to track them.Room for Improvement:It needs a feature for scheduling of automation scripts to run automatically. This feature would be very useful.Use of Solution:Five years.Stability Issues:No.Scalability Issues:No.Technical Support:Quick response.Previous Solutions:We checked out other tools like JIRA and Rally which also have good features, but HPE ALM has is user friendly.Initial Setup:Straightforward.Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:No suggestions.Other Solutions Considered:No.Other Advice:As long as you can afford it, go for this product. Otherwise, there are less expensive or open source products with almost the same features.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from With the BPT module, we can update test cases in less time as would otherwise take to update two or three business components. Valuable Features:The Business Process Testing module and approach to testing in QC is its most valuable feature.Improvements to My Organization:For manual test cases, we need to write test case each time and if any update or CR comes then we need to go to each test case and update, which is very time consuming. But, with BPT we can update it in less time as would otherwise take to update two or three business components. After a refresh, it will automatically update the whole test set, which is over 100 test cases.Room for Improvement:I would like to see a bit of improvement in its look and feel.Use of Solution:We've used it for seven years.Deployment Issues:There were issues with the deployment.Stability Issues:We had some issues with the stability.Scalability Issues:We had some issues with the scalability.Customer Service:8/10Technical Support:8/10Previous Solutions:Earlier I used Mantis, but it was not user friendly and had no functionality apart from defect tracking. But HP QC is defect tracking by default. Test Case Execution tracking and reporting functionality which will serve all purposes for testing processes.Initial Setup:The initial setup was not complex.Implementation Team:We used a vendor team with in-house machines for the implementation.Other Advice:For testing processes and improvements, I would suggest you use this product. But, if you're looking at cost, then that might be a concern, but no doubt it is the best tool for testing.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I personally found the defect tracking feature very useful in my ongoing project. Valuable Features:I personally found the defect tracking feature very useful in my ongoing project. Our complete Agile process of Software development and QA is dependent HP Quality Center.Improvements to My Organization:It has streamlined communication with business users and technical users whereby business requirements are now tracked on HP Quality Center. Thus providing clarity with simplicity.Room for Improvement:I've faced a couple of bugs in the product whereby we were not able to open attachments on a particular ticket. The session timeout time also needs to longer in my opinion.Use of Solution:I've been using this solution for close to 2 years on a daily basis and it's a wonderful product.Deployment Issues:Not in particular, only certain defects that i've mentioned for the question above for areas of improvement.Stability Issues:Certain minor issues such as error in opening attachments linked to a ticket and session timeout issues apart, the product is stable.Scalability Issues:The product is scalable and consistently delivers the required purpose.Customer Service:HP has dedicated support with this licensed product and they were available for any queries.Technical Support:Technical issues were resolved based on SR with HP team and response was good.Previous Solutions:We have used HP QC from the onset as the scale of our operation and the throughput of requirements were greater so using other solutions such as Kanban was not feasible in our project.Initial Setup:Initial setup was straight forward with installation and HP provides tutorials for advanced modification.Implementation Team:It was implemented by our client team and we helped them with the offshore installation.ROI:The value created was high in our project as were dealing with an application with high public exposure , so the smooth working of tracking requirements and defects definitely gave a good ROI.Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing:For pricing I recommend to buy a bundled package, check the HPE site for more details.Other Solutions Considered:Other teams had used Kanban and its visual style of quality control but it was not a good fit in our project.Other Advice:I highly recommend HP Quality centre for its simplicity and ease of use whereby Business and Technical team can see each others progress and help make better decisions.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We can have multiple users execute tests independently on their own computers because the UFT scripts are stored online. Valuable Features:* Ability to execute automated UFT scripts from Quality Center and store the results* Ability to customize modules, particularly Defect Tracking module on company specific needs* The user can export a lengthy test case with a lot of steps from Excel directly into Quality Center, which saves a lot of time. Conversely, a user can export a test case with all steps from Quality Center to Excel.* Users can save screen shots of defects and also perform manual testing by using Manual Runner that verifies whether each step passed or failed and save the results along with information such as the date/time executed and who the tester was that performed the manual test.Improvements to My Organization:Multiple users can execute tests independently on their own computer because the UFT scripts are stored in Quality Center which is web based. All test cases are stored in one location (Quality Center) which makes it easier for users to access and maintain.New users can quickly be added and set-up to have access to given projects in Quality Center in less than an hour. The Defect Module can be customized to your departments needs. At a former company, we held regular meetings and used the Defect Module with a projector to go over the defects found during the previous week.Room for Improvement:When a particular version of Quality Center has reached end of life, the customer is forced to upgrade to the newer version to be eligible to get technical support. The upgrade process can be time intensive and requires a lot of planning. The BPT also known as Business Process Testing can sometimes be very time intensive and sometimes might not be very intuitive to someone who is not familiar with BPT.Use of Solution:Including earlier versions, I've been using it for 10 years.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:Sometimes when Quality Center is open and there is another browser open, Quality Center will crash.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered, in fact, it's very straightforward to add users.Customer Service:9/10.Technical Support:9/10.Previous Solutions:I have worked at companies that used open source tools and Quality Center is by far the best.Initial Setup:The initial set-up required a lot of resources, such as the Oracle DBA, because Quality Center stores its information in tables in a database. You also have to plan and coordinate with System Analysts what servers will be used along with the architecture.ROI:Giving an ROI on a software product is a complicated task. I like to use the Space Shuttle as an analogy. From an economist's point of view, he or she might say the Space Shuttle program cost billions of dollars and did not see nearly that amount in hard dollars generated from resources/time saved in return. I believe NASA did get paid to put satellites into orbit via the Shuttle for private companies but it was less than the whole costs. On the other hand, a scientist could say the Space Shuttle program made many significant discoveries and also put into orbit the Hubble Telescope which discovered and took pictures of the Universe that was not possible from Earth. The Economist would just use a formula to calculate a number stating it is a bad ROI. The Scientist would say the Shuttle definitely added value by making new discoveries that advanced science so far that it cannot be measured in dollars and say it is a good ROI. My point here is that "what is the ROI" is a common question at companies and it can vary greatly on how a person approaches and perceives it.With all this in mind, my answer is that Quality Center definitely adds value to an organization and over the long run has a positive ROI that will keep increasing over time mostly by saving time for users the more they use the functionality of all the modules. For example, using Quality Center to schedule automated test suites to run unattended increases ROI.Cost and Licensing Advice:For licensing, find out the number of users who will be using it concurrently, and use that number as a starting point for the number of licenses to purchase. Quality Center is pricey, but cheaper is not always less expensive.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Other Advice:Write out and document all the steps and resources beforehand, and make sure everything is in place before implementing. Make sure you read the minimum requirements listed in installation instructions needed for all hardware (i.e. servers, etc.) and double-check it to ensure it is met.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
