Use this adapter to connect three independent displays to a single mDP 1.2 port. This MST hub lets you connect three DisplayPort monitors to your Mini DisplayPort computer. MST works on any Windows device that supports DisplayPort 1.2, such as models of the Lenovo Think Pad and Microsoft Surface. When connected to earlier revisions of DisplayPort, such as DP 1.1 the MST hub acts as a video splitter.

The newest generations of laptops are more portable than ever, unfortunately this means you're left with fewer video outputs and a small integrated screen. The MST hub solves these problems by letting you connect three independent displays to a single mDP port on your computer, which makes multitasking much easier. Using the MST hub, you can extend your desktop onto additional monitors and stream independent content to each display, which makes it easier to multitask and increase your productivity - perfect for creating an easy-to-dock hot desk solution with a wireless keyboard and mouse peripheral set. You can also mirror the same image onto multiple displays for remote viewing applications such as digital signage.

MST technology uses your existing video card to minimize the use of system resources while delivering Ultra HD 4K resolutions. 4K is supported by the latest A/V devices and delivers four times the resolution of 1080p. Plus, because the MST hub can output high-definition 1080p, the MST hub is perfect for all high-resolution applications such as graphic design and medical imaging.

With this MST hub, you can use separate mDP video adapters to connect HDMI, VGA or DVI displays, for compatibility with all of your existing monitors. The hub is VESA and DisplayPort certified to support DP 1.2 enabled systems, for seamless integration with your existing video equipment.

The MSTMDP123DP has been certified by Microsoft and tested for compatibility with your Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.

Product Reviews
Rated 2.6 out of 5 by 5reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Works with DVI out not VGA Connecting monitors via DVI seems to work as expected and without issue, just make sure you get a DVI-D cable, other DVI cables I tried did not work. I would expect HDMI and Display Port to be fine as well but have not tested. When using this splitter, using converters to VGA (even the ones offered by StarTech) will cause instability and inconsistency between dockings. Screens flicker, resolution of monitors is recognized differently between uses, video driver occasionally crashes. April 10, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Simple and works I have purchased five of these for use with the Surface Pro 3 and we have had no issues. Every installation has been less than 10 minutes and my users were able to configure their own screens. March 25, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Worked like a champ Ordered with a new Surface 3, Connected it to two monitors and went into the windows software and enabled and extended the monitors and everything worked just like it should. It's a great alternative to buying new monitors with display port in and out when upgrading users to a new surface tablet and wanting to run multiple monitors. February 4, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by DisplayPort MST Hub does not work with Surface 3 & Docking Station I have only used this device with Microsoft Surface 3 Pro, and docking-station. Connected to two external HP EliteDisplay E241i.While you can get this MST Hub to work as intended for a short time*, I have not been able to stabilize functionality to the point where I would deploy in to end users.* Disconnecting and reconnecting power supply to MST Hub, and powering off/on the external monitors will make the Surface 3 Windows OS detect and enable the connected displays. The external monitors will work until the next time they enter sleep mode. After that, the Surface 3 in docking-station will no longer detect the external monitors,You can repeat the MST HUB, and Monitor power reset process and have external monitors working again, but only until next monitor sleep event. The device itself appears to be well designed, and the connectors feel solid.Unfortunately, my experience with this device is similar to previous review and until this issue has been addressed by StarTech - I would not suggest attempting to use this device with the Surface Pro 3. Rated 1 out of 5 by Doesn't work with Surface Pro 3 So I got one of these to use on my new Surface Pro 3 tablet. They have a decent looking and feel, and while my HP LED screens do have Display Port 1.2 connectors, I can't have any of them detected by the tablet while using the MST adapter. I've contacted the StarTech support, which told me this dongle should work with the Surface and he suggested me to replace the unit, which I did and it didn't worked either. As the docking station was due to be out on the market soon, I waited until the day I got mine, and here I am writing using my Surface Pro 3 while docked. The dongle still does not work. The tech support told me it was tested and made for the Surface Pro 3, so either I got a pair of duds or that was a sales rep acting as a tech. At any rate, if you plan on expanding your Surface Pro 3, don't bother with this adapter. Instead, use two cables: one at the dock and another at the Surface itself - or have fun with another MST hub from a different manufacturer. September 10, 2014
