Clinical Communication

A hospital partnered with CDW to streamline collaboration throughout the facility. Clinical communication was one key area earmarked for improvement. To streamline workflow and eliminate device fragmentation, CDW helped improved communication by deploying smartphones staff could share on shifts (vs. having separate pagers, handheld scanners and call-only handsets).

Having one platform for communication eliminated app overload and confusion as to which device to use when. This improved timeliness of communication and increased productivity while simultaneously improving patient care, especially in terms of care team interaction. Whether nurse to nurse, nurse to physician, physician to physician, or care team to specialist for a consult, improved collaboration led to faster diagnosis and more coordinated care for every patient.

Patient Engagement

The hospital wanted to ensure the newly adopted clinical collaboration platform would allow for better patient engagement. Working with CDW, they were able to implement enterprisewide tablets for bedside use by patients and staff.

Each device, able to be wiped down and disinfected between patient uses, enabled patients to access and review their charts and medical information. The tablets also allowed patients to directly contact care team providers with questions via secure text message, email or video call; as well as access educational materials from their care team regarding their condition.

EHR Mobilization

Healthcare workflows have gone mobile and this hospital was no exception. Since adopting their Electronic Health Record, the hospital needed a way to transform EHR usability from a desktop-based to a mobile device-based function.

Working with CDW, the hospital improved their mobile platform, which allowed faster EHR access from any device, anywhere in the facility. Messaging for all team members was streamlined, and enabled more efficient, integrated communication while preventing system workarounds and messaging via unsecure methods.
